Memphis Grizzlies (5-5) at Los Angeles Clippers (7-3), 10:30 p.m.
(SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Clippers will go for a fifth consecutive
victory Monday night when they welcome the Memphis Grizzlies to the Staples
The Clips haven't lost since Nov. 7 in Miami. Monday's battle with the
Grizzlies will end a four-game homestand.
These two teams are certainly familiar with each other. The Clippers and
Grizzlies have met 20 times over the last two seasons, including 13 playoff
games. Memphis survived last year in the postseason and both sides are raring
to go on Monday.
"You can watch Memphis against anyone and it's going to be contentious,"
Clippers head coach Doc Rivers said. "That's just the way they play. They're
physical. They bump. Clearly, we didn't handle it well (in the playoffs). We
have an opportunity on Monday, but that's still early in the season."
The Clippers earned their fourth consecutive win on Saturday with a 110-103
victory over the Brooklyn Nets. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett didn't play for
Brooklyn in what was supposed to be a reunion between the two and Rivers,
their longtime head coach with the Boston Celtics.
Blake Griffin was great with 30 points and 12 rebounds. J.J. Redick had 26
points on 5-for-7 shooting from behind the 3-point line. Chris Paul has 10
double-doubles to open the season as he recorded 12 points and 13 assists
Jamal Crawford scored 13 points, Byron Mullens chipped in 10 off the bench and
DeAndre Jordan pulled down 16 rebounds.
The Grizzlies have started their four-game western trip 2-0 thanks to wins
over the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings.
Against Sacramento, Memphis took a 13-point lead into the half and held on
over the final 24 minutes to get to .500.
Zach Randolph notched a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Mike
Conley scored 19 points and handed out nine assists, while Marc Gasol missed a
triple-double by two rebounds and an assist.
"One thing about me, I don't try to get rebounds, I don't try to get assists,
I don't try to get points, I try to win," said Gasol, who also had 19 points
on Sunday. "That's how I play and how I always will play. I don't care about
Tony Allen managed 12 points.
The Grizzlies head to Oracle Arena Wednesday to play the Golden State
The Clippers took three of four regular-season meetings last season and five
of seven over the last two seasons.
