Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - The Baltimore Orioles announced the signing of right-handed reliever Ryan Webb to a two-year contract on Tuesday.
Webb appeared in a career-high 66 games last season for the Miami Marlins and went 2-6 with a 2.91 earned run average and a career-high 54 strikeouts over 80 1/3 innings.
The Orioles have been searching for bullpen help following the trade of closer Jim Johnson. Like Johnson, Webb is a groundball pitcher and, although he has been a setup man his entire career, he may find himself in the mix for Baltimore's closer spot.
The 27-year-old hurler was a fourth-round draft pick of the Oakland Athletics back in 2004, but broke into the league with the San Diego Padres in 2009. Over 266 games with the Padres and Marlins, Webb has gone 13-15 with a 3.29 ERA.
