Baltimore Ravens Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Lorenzo Taliaferro, RB9/28/2014 5:21:00 PM
Description: Ravens tailback Lorenzo Taliaferro carried the ball 15 times for 58 yards and a touchdown against the Panthers on Sunday.
Insight: Bernard Pierce was supposed to start, but he did not touch the ball. Justin Forsett carried the load in the first half and then when the game was out of reach, the Ravens turmed to Taliaferro. It is hard to say because the Ravens backfield is very crowded, but Taliaferro looks to be the best Ravens back to own in fantasy going forward.
Steve Smith Sr, WR9/28/2014 5:16:00 PM
Description: Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. caught seven passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns.
Insight: Smith was clearly pumped to play his old team and led the Ravens with 10 targets. He is probably the biggest sleeper of the draft so far. Continue to plug him into your starting lineup and if you haven't done that already, then what are you waiting for?
Bernard Pierce, RB9/28/2014 12:55:00 PM
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce (thigh) "will be eased" back into action in Week 4 according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Insight: Rookie running back Lorenzo Taliaferro displayed a lot of skill in Week 3, so the Ravens look to have the luxury to slowly move Pierce back into the lineup. Then throw in the fact that Justin Forsett will get carries as well. Pierce is starting but if possible, avoid this whole situation.
Lardarius Webb, CB/RS9/28/2014 12:08:00 PM
Description: Ravens cornerback Lardarius Webb is inactive against the Panthers on Sunday.
Insight: That means Jimmy Smith will likely shadow the Panthers rookie wide out Kelvin Benjamin. Although that is not the best matchup for Benjamin owners, if Cam Newton can find other holes in the Ravens secondary without Webb playing, perhaps the coverage on Benjamin will loosen up a bit.
Bernard Pierce, RB9/28/2014 12:05:00 PM
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce is active against the Panthers on Sunday.
Insight: Pierce is starting, but it will be a three-headed monster in the Baltimore backfield. Scat-back Justin Forsett and rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro will cut into Pierce's touches. We believe Taliaferro is the best long-term player to own here, but none of them are exactly good starts in Week 4.
Bernard Pierce, RB9/26/2014 8:27:00 PM
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce is expected to start on Sunday against the Panthers.
Insight: Gary Kubiak specifically said that all of his running backs, Pierce, Lorenzo Taliaferro and Justin Forsett, will play. This sounds like a true running back by committee as Pierce will start, rookie Taliaferro shined last week and Forsett has at least 12 touches per game through three weeks. For this week, we actually think Taliaferro is still the better play than Pierce as long as owners believe Kubiak that all three backs will play. Forsett will be the change-of-pace back.
Bernard Pierce, RB9/23/2014 3:42:00 PM
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce (thigh) missed Week 3, but its a good sign that the team waived running back Fitzgerald Toussaint.
Insight: Pierce should still be the No. 1 guy, but Justin Forsett and Lorenzo Taliaferro are right on his heels and could eat into his playing time.
Dennis Pitta, TE9/22/2014 5:25:00 PM
Description: Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta underwent surgery on his dislocated right hip on Monday and is done for the season.
Insight: The Ravens will turn to Owen Daniels as their primary tight end. Pitta has now missed back-to-back years with right hip dislocations. Daniels has 10 catches for 70 yards in three games and caught two touchdowns against the Steelers in Week 2.
Steve Smith Sr, WR9/21/2014 5:25:00 PM
Description: Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. continues to be Joe Flacco's favorite target.
Insight: After a five-catch, 101 yard performance on Sunday, Smith now has 18 receptions for 290 yards and one touchdown, in 2014. Owners who took a gamble on Smith for their bench, are extremely happy, as long as he was inserted into the starting lineup.
Joe Flacco, QB9/21/2014 5:15:00 PM
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco managed the Ravens to a victory against the Browns on Sunday.
Insight: He was 19 for 31 with 217 yards, one touchdown and one interception, with an average of only 7.0 yards per completion. It is becoming evident that Flacco will not be a game-changing, fantasy quarterback. He is a QB2 moving forward.
Dennis Pitta, TE9/21/2014 2:13:00 PM
Description: Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta was carted off Sunday with a right leg injury.
Insight: It was a non-contact injury, and obviously looks like Pitta's day is done. He had three catches for 12 yards, before leaving the game.
Bernard Pierce, RB9/21/2014 11:47:00 AM
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce (thigh) is officially out today versus Cleveland.
Insight: Not a good sign for Pierce owners, as his inconsistent play was already an issue. Now, with potential injury problems, Pierce will be giving way to Justin Forsett and Lorenzo Taliaferro.
Lorenzo Taliaferro, RB9/21/2014 5:19:00 AM
Description: Ravens tailback Lorenzo Taliaferro had a coming out party on Sunday against the Browns.
Insight: Although Justin Forsett started, Taliaferro saw the majority of reps. He tallied 91 yards on 18 rushes and a touchdown. Taliaferro is definitely worth a waiver, if he has not been picked up already. Forsett, to his credit, played well, rushing 11 times for 63 yards. However, he remains the third down back.
Bernard Pierce, RB9/20/2014 4:14:00 PM
Description: It's not a good sign for Ravens running back Bernard Pierce fantasy owners that the team activated RB Fitzgerald Toussaint from the practice squad.
Insight: Check back Sunday morning to see if he is active or inactive. Justin Forsett and rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro would likely share time if Bernard is a no-go. Toussaint is simply insurance.
Bernard Pierce, RB9/19/2014 4:00:00 PM
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce was added to the injury report because of a thigh injury and was kimited in Friday's practice leaving doubt about his availability for Sunday against Cleveland.
Insight: Pierce will still likely get the majority of the carries against the Browns on Sunday as Justin Forsett looks to only be a change-of-pace back. Check back Sunday morning to see if he is active or inactive.
Bernard Pierce, RB9/18/2014 4:46:00 PM
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce was added to the injury report because of a thigh injury.
Insight: Pierce will still likely get the majority of the carries against the Browns on Sunday as Justin Forsett looks to only be a change-of-pace back. Check back on Friday to see if Pierce practices. He is a borderline RB2.
Bernard Pierce, RB9/11/2014 11:59:00 PM
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce carried the load Thursday night with 22 rushed for 96 yards and one reception for seven yards.
Insight: Many fantasy owners had jumped on the Justin Forsett bandwagon, but Pierce's active night will slow that parade to a halt. Forsett caught four balls for 16 yards and had eight carries for 56 yards. It appears the Ravens are still figuring out the backfield mix.
Asa Jackson, CB/RS9/11/2014 11:48:00 PM
Description: Ravens defensive back Asa Jackson left Thursday's game with the Steelers due to a concussion and did not return.
Insight: Baltimore was already without the inactive Lardarius Webb leaving them thin, but it didn't matter in this one.
Lardarius Webb, CB/RS9/11/2014 7:10:00 PM
Description: Ravens cornerback Lardarius Webb is inactive against the Steelers on Thursday night.
Insight: Webb is clearly the best cover cornerback on the Ravens roster. Jimmy Smith will likely get the daunting task of covering Antonio Brown with Asa Jackson or a backup safety matching up against Markus Wheaton.
Bernard Pierce, RBCold9/9/2014 9:47:00 PM
Description: Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Bernard Pierce would remain a big part of the offense.
Insight: Don't know if we should really buy this. In the same press conference, Harbaugh said Pierce was benched for fumbling and then denied that fact. Justin Forsett looks to be the Ravens go-to back at least this Thursday against Pittsburgh, but the long term starting job will be probably determined by the hot hand. As frustrating as Pierce has been the last season-plus, it would probably be the smart move to hold onto him at least one more week.
Ray Rice, RB9/8/2014 2:33:00 PM
Description: The Baltimore Ravens announced they are releasing running back Ray Rice.
Insight: In the wake of the TMZ elevator video, the public have been calling for Rice's head. Our guess, he never plays another down in the NFL. This could also have huge implications for Roger Goodell's tenure as commissioner. As for fantasy, Bernard Pierce is the starter in the Ravens backfield, but Justin Forsett took over the role after Pierce's fumbling issue in Week 1. We would like to see how Week 2 on Thursday goes, but based on Pierce's performances last season and in Week 1, we guess Forsett is the best option out of the Raven backfield.
Ray Rice, RB9/8/2014 1:57:00 PM
Description: Yahoo Sports Dan Wetzel reports on Twitter that the Ravens might release Ray Rice after TMZ released the video of him knocking out his then fiance and dragging her out of an elevator.
Insight: There does not seem to be much of an alternative at this point. There is a lot of blame to go around in this situation, but NFL players along with fans are calling for his head. Terrance Knighton of the Denver Broncos tweeted that he should be banned from the NFL. Rice is eligible to return in Week 3, but we will see if that actually happens.
Joe Flacco, QB9/7/2014 6:20:00 PM
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco threw the ball 62 times for 345 yards and a touchdown.
Insight: I got tired just watching him. He was also sacked three times. There is no way he survives the season if he passes the ball 992 times (62x16).
Bernard Pierce, RBCold9/7/2014 5:23:00 PM
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce carried the ball just six times and was pulled after another fumble.
Insight: This was Pierce's chance to establish himself and he didn't do it. Now he'll share time with Justin Forsett until Ray Rice returns and then were taking a three-way committee.
Bernard Pierce, RB8/30/2014 2:21:00 PM
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce (concussion) returned to practice on Saturday.
Insight: Pierce suffered the concussion seven days ago, so he should be ready for Week 1, where he will start in place of the suspended Ray Rice. Pierce rushed 11 times for 52 yards and caught a pass for three yards in preseason.
Bernard Pierce, RB8/25/2014 9:26:00 PM
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce has officially been diagnosed with a concussion, according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com.
Insight: The concussion is minor and Pierce is expected to be ready for Week 1. An injury at this point of the preseason would be terrible for Pierce, who will get a two-game chance to prove he deserves a larger role in the offense when Ray Rice returns from a suspension.
Bernard Pierce, RB8/24/2014 8:57:00 PM
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce tweeted that he's "fine" after suffering a head injury during Saturday's preseason game.
Insight: According to the Baltimore Sun, Pierce is expected to be ready for Week 1. He left Saturday's game with concussion symptoms but hasn't yet been officially diagnosed with a concussion. An injury at this point of the preseason would be terrible for Pierce, who will get a two-game chance to prove he deserves a larger role in the offense when Ray Rice returns from a suspension.
Joe Flacco, QB8/23/2014 9:50:00 PM
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco was 16-of-23 for 180 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Redskins.
Insight: Flacco led Baltimore to three first-half scoring drives and struck a wide open Steve Smith for a 30-yard touchdown. The quarterback is 29-of-45 for 345 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions this preseason. Flacco is a worthy QB2.
Bernard Pierce, RB8/23/2014 8:47:00 PM
Description: Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce left in the first quarter of Saturday's preseason game against the Redskins with a possble concussion.
Insight: Not a good sign for Pierce, who was injury plagued last season. Baltimore is already missing Ray Rice the first two weeks of the season because of suspension and now it seems like at least a 50/50 chance Pierce will be out too. Week 1 is two weeks away and doctors must clear Pierce before he returns.
Lardarius Webb, CB/RS8/19/2014 10:59:00 AM
Description: Baltimore cornerback Lardarius Webb will not play in the two final preseason games due to his ongoing back issue.
Insight: Webb's tests revealed no structural damage, so we still expect him back for opening day, but there is a bit of concern. The Ravens open up against A.J. Green and the Bengals.
Ray Rice, RB8/18/2014 2:08:00 PM
Description: Ravens running back Ray Rice (shoulder) was back at practice Monday.
Insight: Rice's X-rays came back negative and he had told Brent Harris of Comcast Sportsnet that he's "fine." This is confirmation. Rice is suspended the first two games of the year, so even if he was injured, he would have plenty of time to recover.
Jimmy Smith, CB8/17/2014 12:04:00 PM
Description: Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith left saturday night's preseason game due to a chest injury, but X-rays were negative.
Insight: The starting right corner will probably take the next preseason game off to make sure he's fine for when the regular season begins.
Ray Rice, RB8/16/2014 8:29:00 PM
Description: Ravens running back Ray Rice went to the locker room to get his shoulder looked at during Saturday's preseason game.
Insight: Rice's X-rays came back negative and he told Brent Harris of Comcast Sportsnet that he's "fine." Rice is suspended the first two games of the year, which will give Bernard Pierce a chance to prove he deserves a larger role when Rice returns.
Lorenzo Taliaferro, RB8/8/2014 9:57:00 AM
Description: Rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro was the fourth back off the bench, but looked good in extended second-half minutes.
Insight: Taliaferro rushed 13 times for 71 yards. Stuck behind Ray Rice, Bernard Pierce and Justin Forsett, he may not see much action in season one, but could be a long-term stash in dynasty leagues.
Lardarius Webb, CB/RS8/2/2014 2:28:00 PM
Description: Baltimore cornerback Lardarius Webb will miss at least the first two preseason games due to a back injury, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.
Insight: Webb's tests revealed no structural damage, so we still expect him back for opening day.
Will Hill, S7/25/2014 11:43:00 AM
Description: Suspended safety Will Hill has agreed to a deal with the Baltimore Ravens, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.
Insight: Hill is currently serving a six-game suspension due to a violation of the substance abuse policy so won't be eligible until Week 7.
Aaron Ross, CB7/24/2014 4:37:00 PM
Description: Ravens defensive back Aaron Ross ripped up his Achilles tendon during the team's conditioning test and is expected to miss the season.
Insight: He already had missed most of 2013 with a back injury and now this. He could be at the end of the line. Ross was likely only depth so this shouldn't change much on the Baltimore defense.
Bernard Pierce, RB7/24/2014 11:14:00 AM
Description: Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce (offseason surgery on his rotator cuff) should be the team's starter for the first two games of the season.
Insight: Assuming he can stay healthy, Pierce will get a chance to be the lead ballcarrier and prove he deserves a larger role even when Rice returns from his two-game suspension.
Ray Rice, RB7/24/2014 11:11:00 AM
Description: Ravens running back Ray Rice has been suspended for the first two games of the season.
Insight: The suspension is actually a little shorter than expected. Still, it means backup Bernard Pierce will be fantasy worthy for the first two games of the season and if he plays well who knows what could happen down the road.
Bernard Pierce, RB7/22/2014 10:11:00 PM
Description: According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, Ravens running back Bernard Pierce has been medically cleared. He underwent offseason surgery on his rotator cuff.
Insight: Ray Rice is expected to be suspended for multiple games at the start of the season, so Pierce will get a chance to be the lead ballcarrier and prove he deserves a larger role when Rice returns. The Ravens had a league-worst 3.1 ypc average in 2013. They'll try to revive the running game under new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak.
Bernard Pierce, RB6/23/2014 1:50:00 PM
Description: The Baltimore Sun says Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce (rotator cuff surgery) is the favorite to be the opening day starter.
Insight: The Ravens' running game is a mess. Pierce is coming off shoulder surgery, Ray Rice is expected to receive a multi-game suspension and rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro is dealing with legal issues of his own. Justin Forsett is also in the mix.
Ray Rice, RB5/23/2014 7:24:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the Ravens are preparing to be without running back Ray Rice for at least the first three games of the season. Rice is probably facing a suspension for his offseason assault arrest.
Insight: Rice held a press conference Friday to apologize for his behavior. The suspension knocks Rice down a peg while lifting Bernard Pierce's value.
Ray Rice, RB5/22/2014 8:57:00 PM
Description: ESPN's Chris Mortenson expects Baltimore running back Ray Rice to face some sort of suspension for his arrest earlier this offseason.
Insight: This further clouds what was already a puzzling fantasy situation. If anything, the looming suspension helps Bernard Pierce's value heading into the season. Of course, that's assuming Pierce is fully recovered from offseason rotator cuff surgery.
Ray Rice, RB5/21/2014 10:12:00 AM
Description: Ravens running back Ray Rice has agreed to participate in a pretrial-intervention program. As long as he completes the program, Rice will not have to face trial for allegedly assaulting his wife earlier this offseason. SOURCE: ESPN
Insight: The arrest still goes on Rice's permanent record but without the conviction. Rice is coming off a dismal season (3.1 yards per carry) and it's possible he could also be facing a suspension. Once a consensus first-rounder, Rice's fantasy stock has never been lower.
Ray Rice, RB5/1/2014 9:35:00 PM
Description: Baltimore halfback Ray Rice pleaded not guilty to third-degree aggravated assault charges on Thursday. SOURCE: Jamison Hensley, ESPN
Insight: It doesn't appear Rice will face jail time, though it's still possible the league could suspend him. The charges stem from an incident in Atlantic City this past February.
Owen Daniels, TE4/3/2014 9:21:00 PM
Description: The Ravens signed former Texans tight end Owen Daniels to a one-year contract on Thursday. SOURCE: John McClain, Houston Chronicle
Insight: He was released by Houston about three weeks ago. Dennis Pitta's presence won't help Daniels as he looks to bounce back from a disappointing 2013 season (252 receiving yards in five appearances).
Ray Rice, RB3/27/2014 6:02:00 PM
Description: According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Ravens running back Ray Rice has been indicted on one count of aggravated assault for allegedly assaulting his fiancee in February.
Insight: Rice was initially charged with simple assault but that has been dropped. The new charge carries a potential term of 3-5 years in prison.
Steve Smith, WR3/14/2014 6:17:00 PM
Description: Steve Smith is now a member of the Ravens. He signed a three-year, $11 million contract with Baltimore on Friday, one day after being released by the Panthers.
Insight: Smith had just 745 yards and four scores on 64 catches (11.6 ypc) in 15 games last season and enters a passing offense that isn't very prolific. He'll serve as the third option for QB Joe Flacco behind Torrey Smith and Dennis Pitta.
Jacoby Jones, WR3/12/2014 4:15:00 PM
Description: The Ravens are keeping receiver/return specialist Jacoby Jones.
Insight: Jones signed a four-year deal to stay with Baltimore on Wednesday. His knack for the big play may intrigue some fantasy owners but with just 2,602 receiving yards spread out over seven seasons, Jones doesn't have a high ceiling. Save him for the end of your draft.
Dennis Pitta, TE3/1/2014 6:46:00 PM
Description: Dennis Pitta's new deal with Baltimore will pay him $32 million over the next five seasons. SOURCE: Aaron Wilson, Baltimore Sun
Insight: A dislocated hip limited Pitta to just four games last season. If Pitta can stay healthy, he should be a top-ten tight end in 2014.
Ray Rice, RB2/19/2014 7:13:00 PM
Description: Video has surfaced of Ravens running back Ray Rice dragging his fiancee, who appears to be unconscious, out of an elevator at an Atlantic City casino. SOURCE: TMZ
Insight: Rice, who is now facing domestic violence charges, has been accused of hitting his fiancee and knocking her unconscious. The three-time Pro Bowler is due in court next Tuesday. It could be a while before this ugly situation is resolved.
Terrell Suggs, DE2/18/2014 6:58:00 PM
Description: The Ravens have inked star defensive end Terrell Suggs to a five-year extension. SOURCE: Baltimore Sun
Insight: The deal is worth $28.5 million. Suggs led the team with ten sacks in 2013. He'll be 36 when his next contract expires.
Ray Rice, RB2/16/2014 7:44:00 PM
Description: According to the Baltimore Sun, Ravens running back Ray Rice was arrested over the weekend after an alleged physical altercation with a woman at a casino in Atlantic City.
Insight: Rice's attorney said that Rice was charged and released after an alleged "very minor physical altercation." The Ravens RB is coming off a miserable season in which he played through a hip injury and rushed for just 660 yards and four TDs in 15 games. He established career lows with 3.1 yards per carry and 5.5 yards per catch.
Bernard Pierce, RB1/29/2014 10:13:00 PM
Description: Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce had surgery to repair his rotator cuff Wednesday and will be sidelined 4-5 months.
Insight: The Ravens running game struggled across the board in 2013, and Pierce rushed for just 2.9 yards per carry and two touchdowns on 152 attempts.
Terrell Suggs, DE12/31/2013 2:45:00 PM
Description: Terrell Suggs may not be back with the Ravens next year. SOURCE: Baltimore Sun
Insight: For him to come back, Suggs is probably going to have to take a pay cut. Suggs, who registered ten sacks this past season, may not be willing to do that. Obviously Suggs is going to have a huge market as a free agent if Baltimore ends up releasing him.
Ray Rice, RB12/29/2013 11:56:00 AM
Description: Despite being listed as questionable with a thigh injury, Baltimore halfback Ray Rice is active and starting in Week 17.
Insight: Rice has been a roll of the dice this season with just four touchdowns and 645 rushing yards in 14 games this season. He ran into brick walls the last time he faced the Bengals, finishing with just 30 yards on 18 carries. Rice figures to be a flex or low level RB2 in Week 17.
Torrey Smith, WR12/29/2013 11:49:00 AM
Description: Baltimore wideout Torrey Smith is active for the season finale against Cincinnati.
Insight: The talented third-year receiver hasn't scored since Week 13, but now would be a good time to break the scoreless streak. He has 62 receptions for 1,101 yards and four touchdowns this season but hasn't cracked the 100-yard mark since Week 5.
Arthur Jones, DE12/29/2013 11:49:00 AM
Description: Baltimore defensive end Arthur Jones won't be available for Week 17. SOURCE: Jeff Zrebiec, Baltimore Sun
Insight: He's out with a concussion. Jones set a new career-high with 53 tackles this season. He also had four sacks. Rookie Brandon Williams will start in Jones' place.
Brandon Stokley, WR12/26/2013 8:07:00 PM
Description: Veteran wideout Brandon Stokley will retire after 15 NFL seasons. SOURCE: Denver Post
Insight: The Ravens put Stokley on injured reserve after he suffered a concussion in Week 14. He'll finish his career with 397 catches, 5,339 receiving yards and 39 touchdowns. He spent five seasons in Baltimore, four with Denver, four in Indianapolis and one each with the Giants and Seahawks.
Joe Flacco, QB12/22/2013 3:15:00 PM
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco (knee) ended up having an MRI and it revealed a "mild" MCL sprain, but that won't stop him in this huge matchup with the Patriots.
Insight: Flacco suffered the injury Monday when Detroit's DeAndre Levy fell forward into his left knee. He'll wear a brace.
Joe Flacco, QB12/18/2013 11:06:00 PM
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco (knee) ended up having an MRI and it revealed a "mild" MCL sprain, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. He's expected to play in Week 16, but will wear a brace against the Patriots.
Insight: Flacco suffered the injury Monday when Detroit's DeAndre Levy fell forward into his left knee. "It wasn't really bothering me once the initial hit," Flacco said Monday night, via the Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec. "I was probably more scared than anything from just what I felt and also just trying to get a couple of yards out of it. Yeah, it feels fine. It feels strong." Flacco hasn't exceeded 20 fantasy points in a game this season and is averaging 12.6 fantasy points per game.
Joe Flacco, QB12/18/2013 5:10:00 PM
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco (knee) practiced Wednesday in a limited capacity and should play in Week 16 against the Patriots.
Insight: Flacco suffered a left knee injury Monday when Detroit's DeAndre Levy fell forward into it. However, he didn't even need an MRI. "It wasn't really bothering me once the initial hit," Flacco said Sunday night, via the Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec. "I was probably more scared than anything from just what I felt and also just trying to get a couple of yards out of it. Yeah, it feels fine. It feels strong." Flacco hasn't exceeded 20 fantasy points in a game this season and is averaging 12.6 fantasy points per game.
Brandon Stokley, WR12/10/2013 2:08:00 PM
Description: Ravens receiver Brandon Stokley has been placed on season-ending injured reserve.
Insight: Stokley hasn't been much of a fantasy asset with just 13 catches this season. Torrey Smith and Marlon Brown have played well and the team is trying to develop the other young guys as Stokley isn't part of the long-term future.
Dallas Clark, TE12/8/2013 11:51:00 AM
Description: Ravens tight end Dallas Clark won't be active for Sunday's game against Minnesota.
Insight: Dennis Pitta has replaced him in the starting lineup. It appears Clark's days of fantasy significance are over, at least for this season. Expect him to be a healthy scratch the rest of the way.
Dennis Pitta, TE12/8/2013 11:48:00 AM
Description: Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta will make his season debut Sunday against Minnesota.
Insight: Pitta missed Baltimore's first 12 games with a dislocated hip. Dallas Clark is a healthy scratch, which means Pitta and Ed Dickson will be the Ravens' only available tight ends for Week 14.
Dennis Pitta, TE12/7/2013 4:17:00 PM
Description: The Ravens have activated tight end Dennis Pitta (hip) from injured reserve according to Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports.
Insight: Pitta is expected to return Sunday against the Vikings, but because he'll be on a limited snap count he'll be no better than a TE2. He could emerge as a starting fantasy option in Weeks 15-17, however, as Joe Flacco has been hurting for a consistent underneath target all season.
Dennis Pitta, TE12/4/2013 4:58:00 PM
Description: According to espn.com, Ravens coach John Harbaugh is "pretty hopeful" tight end Dennis Pitta (hip) will be able to play Sunday against the Vikings.
Insight: "I think it's going to be a matter of how ready is he to play and how healthy he is to play," Harbaugh said. "Something like that, all of the doctors are going to be involved. The health of the player comes first. That's the No. 1 thing, his ability to withstand the rigors of a game. I think we're on track that way. We'll just have to see how it plays out." Given the lack of top option at the tight end position, Pitta could be a worthwhile stash for Weeks 15-16, but will likely be on a snap count if he plays Sunday.
Dennis Pitta, TE11/22/2013 4:58:00 PM
Description: Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun says the best-case scenario for Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta's return from a hip injury is Week 14 against Minnesota.
Insight: Pitta practiced this week for the first time since dislocating his hip in training camp. He's unlikely to play Sunday against the Jets and is highly questionable for a Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Steelers. Given the state of the tight end position after Rob Gronkowski, Jimmy Graham and Vernon Davis, fantasy owners should stash Pitta as he'll see plenty of targets from Joe Flacco when he returns to the lineup.
Dennis Pitta, TE11/20/2013 2:45:00 PM
Description: Baltimore tight end Dennis Pitta returned to practice on Wednesday.
Insight: It's the first time he's practiced since dislocating his hip in training camp. Because of how much time he's missed, it's going to take a while for Pitta to get back into playing shape. We'd be surprised to see him back before Week 14.
Ray Rice, RB11/17/2013 6:55:00 PM
Description: Ravens running back Ray Rice broke loose for 131 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries Sunday at Chicago.
Insight: Rice's long gain of 47 was more yards than he had in seven of his eight games this season. While it was a positive sign for Rice owners, it's too early to say if Rice is fully back to must-start status because the Bears have one of the worst run defenses in the NFL. Rice will have to prove himself again in Week 12 against the stout Jets run defense before he regains our trust.
Marlon Brown, WR11/17/2013 12:30:00 PM
Description: Ravens rookie wideout Marlon Brown (knee) is out Sunday against the Bears.
Insight: Brown has hauled in 27 balls for 307 yards and five touchdowns this season but he's too inconsistent to be trusted as a fantasy option when healthy.
Ray Rice, RBCold11/11/2013 7:31:00 PM
Description: Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he will go with a hot-hand approach at the running back position, according to baltimoreravens.com. "Both of those guys are going to get a large number of carries, and I think whichever guy is playing better should get more carries as we go forward," Harbaugh said.
Insight: But how will Harbaugh choose if both Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce are rushing for under 3.0 yards per carry like they have all season? Rice is down to 2.5 ypc on 289 yards after another abysmal effort (18 carries, 30 rushing yards, six catches, 26 receiving yards) Sunday against the Bengals. Harbaugh said he thinks Rice's hip flexor strain and shoddy run blocking are behind his dropoff this season.
Ray Rice, RBCold11/3/2013 7:47:00 PM
Description: Ravens running back Ray Rice had just 17 rushing yards on 11 carries and 21 receiving yards on three catches Sunday at Cleveland.
Insight: The turnaround doesn't seem to be coming for Rice. In seven games, he has just 259 rushing yards on 97 carries (2.7 ypc), 135 receiving yards on 27 catches and three touchdowns. Bernard Pierce has averaged 2.7 ypc as well, so it's likely the Ravens just cannot run block rather than Rice being done as a useful NFL player.
Torrey Smith, WR10/13/2013 7:03:00 PM
Description: Baltimore wideout Torrey Smith was invisible Sunday in a loss to Green Bay.
Insight: The talented third-year receiver came away with just one catch for 12 yards. Before Sunday, Smith had recorded at least 85 yards receiving in each of his first five games. He'll hope for better luck next time out against the Steelers.
Joe Flacco, QB10/13/2013 7:01:00 PM
Description: Baltimore QB Joe Flacco (20-for-34, 342 yds, 2 TD Sunday against the Packers) has now thrown for at least 300 yards in two of his last three games.
Insight: Unfortunately for Flacco, both of those 300-yard efforts have come in Ravens losses. Flacco isn't usually prone to throwing interceptions but this season, he's actually tossed more picks (eight) than touchdowns (seven).
Marlon Brown, WR10/13/2013 12:40:00 PM
Description: Ravens rookie wideout Marlon Brown, who had a hamstring injury and was inactive for last Sunday's game against the Dolphins, is active for Week 6 versus Green Bay.
Insight: Brown has three touchdowns in four games but his fantasy value will take a hit because Jacoby Jones also returns to the field.
Jacoby Jones, WR10/13/2013 12:35:00 PM
Description: Ravens receiver Jacoby Jones (knee) will return to the field for the first time since Week 1.
Insight: Jones will probably end up sharing snaps with Marlon Brown and not be a great fantasy option this week versus Green Bay.
Bernard Pierce, RB10/10/2013 6:07:00 PM
Description: Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce (thigh) was limited in practice Thursday but he's expected to play Sunday against the Packers.
Insight: Pierce had 46 yards on 11 carries while Ray Rice saw 33 touches in Week 5 against the Dolphins. Fantasy owners should hold him in case Rice suffers another injury but he shouldn't be started.
Jacoby Jones, WR10/9/2013 3:02:00 PM
Description: Ravens receiver Jacoby Jones was back on the practice field Wednesday and could return to game action Sunday.
Insight: Jones will probably be eased back into the game and run as the No. 3 receiver this week behind Torrey Smith and Marlon Brown.
Brandon Stokley, WR10/7/2013 6:29:00 PM
Description: The Ravens re-signed receiver Brandon Stokley just two days after cutting him. SOURCE: Jason La Canfora, CBS Sports
Insight: Stokley's unemployment lasted less than 48 hours. Torrey Smith and Marlon Brown have been beating him out for targets and we're guessing that will continue to be the case.
Ray Rice, RB10/6/2013 6:48:00 PM
Description: Ravens coach John Harbaugh wasn't lying when he said he wanted to get Ray Rice more involved in the offense in Week 5. Rice touched the football 33 times.
Insight: Rice had 27 carries for 74 yards and six catches for 28 while also crossing the goal line twice. It was the game Rice's fantasy owners were looking for after four disappointing and injury-plagued games.
Torrey Smith, WRHot10/6/2013 6:46:00 PM
Description: Ravens receiver Torrey Smith pulled in six passes for 121 yards Sunday at Miami.
Insight: Smith is now "Mr. Consistency." He's produced at least 85 receiving yards and at least five catches in all five games this season and has 27 receptions for 556 yards and a touchdown in five games.
Dannell Ellerbe, LB10/6/2013 2:52:00 PM
Description: Dolphins starting middle linebacker Dannell Ellerbe left the game against Baltimore with a shoulder injury. his return is questionable.
Insight: His absence could open up the running game for Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce.
Marlon Brown, WR10/6/2013 11:33:00 AM
Description: Ravens rookie wideout Marlon Brown, who has a hamstring injury, is inactive for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
Insight: Brown has three touchdowns in four games but his fantasy value will take a hit when Jacoby Jones returns. Jones (knee) is also out Sunday, leaving Torrey Smith, Tandon Doss and Deonte Thompson as the only healthy WRs for the Ravens.
Brandon Stokley, WR10/5/2013 4:03:00 PM
Description: The Ravens cut wideout Brandon Stokley on Saturday.
Insight: Stokley missed last week's game with a groin injury and the Ravens didn't want to waste a roster spot on him now that Deonte Thompson is healthy again. He caught nine passes for 79 yards in his three games with Baltimore.
Marlon Brown, WR10/4/2013 2:46:00 PM
Description: Ravens rookie wideout Marlon Brown, who has a hamstring injury, returned to practice on Friday.
Insight: Brown caught four balls for 34 yards and a score in Week 4 and has been a decent fill-in for injured Jacoby Jones. For the season he has 14 receptions for 150 yards and three scores.
Ray Rice, RB10/2/2013 9:07:00 PM
Description: Ravens coach John Harbaugh has vowed to get running back Ray Rice more involved in the offense after barely using him against the Bills in Week 4. SOURCE: NFL.com
Insight: Inexplicably, the Ravens completely abandoned the run in the second half as Rice didn't receive his first second half carry until four minutes were remaining in the fourth quarter. The result was Baltimore's second loss of the season. Rice, who is now two weeks removed from a hip flexor injury, should be a decent fantasy play against the Dolphins in Week 5. Of course, that's assuming Harbaugh is actually telling the truth and this isn't just a ploy to get Miami off track.
Marlon Brown, WR10/1/2013 12:01:00 PM
Description: Ravens rookie wideout Marlon Brown has a hamstring injury and is questioanble for Week 5 against Miami.
Insight: Brown caught four balls for 34 yards and a score in Week 4 and has been a decent fill-in for injured Jacoby Jones.
