For The Last 365 Days

Eric Gordon, G5/10/2013 11:02:00 AM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle, but should be ready for training camp.
Insight: Just more to worry about if you want Gordon on your fantasy roster. Hopefully the team will let him play on back-to-back nights this season, but that's not a guarantee. The injury-prone guard is the ultimate in high-risk, high reward.
Al-Farouq Aminu, SF4/18/2013 10:04:00 AM

Insight: Aminu also contributed 16 points on offense, his third-highest total of the season. He had 17 boards by the time the game reached its halfway point so Aminu could have sat out the second half and he still would have led the team in rebounding.

Description: Hornets point guard Greivis Vasquez (sprained right ankle) is doubtful for Wednesday's game against Sacramento.
Insight: Vasquez hurt the ankle late in Tuesday's game so there isn't much time for it to heal. Rookie Brian Roberts would get the start if Vasquez can't run.

Description: Hornets point guard Greivis Vasquez (sprained left ankle) will return to action Sunday against Cleveland.
Insight: Vasquez has missed two of the last three games with an ankle sprain and was limited in his one active game but he can be re-inserted into the lineup by fantasy owners.
Greivis Vasquez, G3/29/2013 2:15:00 PM
Description: Hornets point guard Greivis Vasquez (sprained left ankle) will miss Friday's game against Miami.
Insight: Vasquez returned to action after missing one game, but he had zero points on two field goal attempts in 28 minutes Wednesday against the Clippers. Brian Roberts should get the start.
Eric Gordon, G3/28/2013 9:28:00 AM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon (ankle, knee) had 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting in his return to the lineup Wednesday against the Clippers.
Insight: Gordon can score, we know that. He is averaging 16.8 ppg this season and 18 ppg for his career. But his body is just not capable of getting through the rigors of an NBA season.

Description: Hornets point guard Greivis Vasquez is expected to play Wednesday after missing Monday's game with an ankle injury.

Greivis Vasquez, G3/27/2013 12:21:00 PM
Description: Hornets point guard Greivis Vasquez is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the LA Clippers with a sore ankle, but did make it through the morning shootaround.

Eric Gordon, G3/27/2013 12:19:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon is listed asquestionable for Wednesday's game against the LA Clippers (sore left ankle), but is expected to play according to sideline reporter Jennifer Hale.
Insight: He's dealing with the ankle problem for about a week. Gordon's only played in about half of New Orleans' games this season so the Hornets and fantasy owners are pretty used to playing without him at this point if he ultimately doesn't play.
Greivis Vasquez, G3/26/2013 1:55:00 PM
Description: Hornets point guard Greivis Vasquez is questionable for Wednesday's game against the LA Clippers with a sore ankle.

Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon is questionable for Wednesday's game against the LA Clippers, but not for his knee, for a sore left ankle.
Insight: He's dealing with the ankle problem for about a week. Gordon's only played in about half of New Orleans' games this season so the Hornets and fantasy owners are pretty used to playing without him at this point.
Brian Roberts, G3/25/2013 10:35:00 PM
Description: Filling in for Greivis Vasquez at point guard, Hornets guard Brian Roberts racked up 13 points, 18 assists and five rebounds Monday in a win over the Nuggets.
Insight: The victory snapped Denver's 15-game winning streak. Roberts might be worth picking up on waivers if Vasquez's ankle injury turns out to be serious.
Eric Gordon, G3/24/2013 7:44:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon won't be in the lineup Monday against Denver.
Insight: He's dealing with soreness in his left ankle. Gordon's only played in about half of New Orleans' games this season so the Hornets are pretty used to playing without him at this point. Roger Mason (5.6 ppg), Terrel Harris (1.2 ppg) and Brian Roberts (6.4 ppg) are all candidates to start in Gordon's place.
Anthony Davis, PF3/22/2013 1:01:00 PM
Description: Hornets power forward Anthony Davis is completely over his stomach virus and should be ready to go against Memphis Friday night., according to the Hornets website.
Insight: Davis struggled against Boston because he wasn't 100 percent (nine points, eight rebounds in 28 minutes) but hung in there agains Kevin Garnett. This has arguably been Davis' best month of the season. In nine games in March, he's averaged 15.9 ppg to go along with 10.1 rebounds per contest.
Anthony Davis, PF3/20/2013 10:44:00 PM
Description: Playing with an illness, Hornets power forward Anthony Davis tipped in the game-winning shot with 0.3 seconds left Wednesday night against Boston.
Insight: It was a so-so night for Davis (nine points, eight rebounds in 28 minutes) but you have to admire his tenacity battling Kevin Garnett under the hoop to tip in the game-winner. This has arguably been Davis' best month of the season. In nine games in March, he's averaged 15.9 ppg to go along with 10.1 rebounds per contest.
Anthony Davis, PF3/20/2013 7:53:00 PM
Description: New Orleans forward Anthony Davis is active for Wednesday night's game against Boston.
Insight: Davis (13.1 ppg, 7.9 rpg) was dealing with a stomach virus earlier in the day but he took some fluids about an hour and a half before game-time and now he's ready to go. Davis posted a double-double against the Celtics when he faced them earlier in the season (10 points, 10 boards).
Anthony Davis, PFHot3/20/2013 6:45:00 PM
Description: Hornets PF/C Anthony Davis (virus) reportedly looked strong in pre-game warmups and received fluids from the training staff in preparation to play Wednesday night against Boston, according to Hornets courtside reporter Jennifer Hale.
Insight: The rookie has seen increased minutes in eight March games (from 25.5 mpg in February to 30.6 mpg in March) and his numbers have increased significantly. He's averaging 16.8 ppg and 10.4 rpg in March. It's looking like Davis will play Wednesday despite the stomach bug.
Anthony Davis, PFHot3/20/2013 11:45:00 AM
Description: Hornets PF/C Anthony Davis is questionable for Wednesday's game with Boston after coming down with a stomach virus, according to a Jimmy Smith, Times-Picaynue reporter.

Eric Gordon, G3/18/2013 7:51:00 PM
Description: As expected, New Orleans guard Eric Gordon won't be available for Monday night's game against the Warriors.
Insight: Gordon (16.7 ppg) played Sunday at Minnesota and he always sits out the second game of back-to-backs. Head coach Monty Williams said Roger Mason (5.6 ppg) will start in Gordon's place.
Eric Gordon, G3/18/2013 11:00:00 AM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon is expected to miss Monday's game with Golden State as he played on Sunday and the team has stuck solidly with their plan of not playing Gordon in back-to-back games.
Insight: We know Gordon can score (16.7 ppg), but he's frustrating for fantasy owners to keep on their roster as he sits out a game every time New Orleans has a back-to-back and is a walking injury risk.
Greivis Vasquez, G3/17/2013 9:47:00 PM
Description: Hornets point guard Greivis Vasquez attempted 25 field goals Sunday against Minnesota. He made 10 of them, including two threes, and went 2-for-2 from the foul line in a 24-point performance.
Insight: Eric Gordon was limited to 26 minutes and six shots and Ryan Anderson struggled again, so Vasquez took on more of a scoring role. He added five assists and seven rebounds but also had six turnovers.
Ryan Anderson, F3/15/2013 9:45:00 PM
Description: Apparently Ryan Anderson's shot was sick too because he only made 1-of-10 from 3-point range Friday against the Wizards. He finished with 13 points in 35.5 minutes.
Insight: Anderson played through an illness so we'll give him a pass. Three-point percentage doesn't count in most fantasy leagues anyway.
Ryan Anderson, F3/15/2013 6:35:00 PM
Description: New Orleans power forward Ryan Anderson (illness) missed Tuesday's game but he's active for Friday's contest, according to team reporter Jennifer Hale.
Insight: Anderson is a viable fantasy option averaging 16.7 ppg, 6.5 rpg and 2.8 threes per contest. He doesn't need to be 100 percent to knock down shots from downtown.
Ryan Anderson, F3/15/2013 12:04:00 PM
Description: New Orleans power forward Ryan Anderson (illness) missed Tuesday's game and Friday's shootaround, but intends to play, according to Hornets' courtside reporter Jennifer Hale.

Description: Hornets PF/C Anthony Davis registered his third consecutive double-double Tuesday with 17 points and 11 rebounds. He added five blocks and a steal in 37 minutes.
Insight: Davis is finally getting major minutes after being limited by coach Monty Williams for most of the season. He has played 33 or more minutes in four of the last five games and averaged 18 points, 13.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in those four.
Eric Gordon, G3/12/2013 10:00:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon had 24 points on 8-of-17 shooting with three assists and three triples Tuesday against the Nets.
Insight: We know Gordon can score, but he's frustrating to own since he sits out of one game every time New Orleans has a back-to-back and is a walking injury risk.
Austin Rivers, SG3/12/2013 6:07:00 PM
Description: The Hornets announced that guard Austin Rivers had successful surgery to repair his hand fracture. He'll be out 4-6 weeks. SOURCE: Jimmy Smith, NOLA.com
Insight: Rivers had just one double-digit scoring effort since Dec. 28 so he wasn't a fantasy factor.
Ryan Anderson, F3/12/2013 4:15:00 PM
Description: New Orleans power forward Ryan Anderson (illness) is doubtful for Tuesday's game, according to Hornets courtside reporter Jennifer Hale.
Insight: Anderson once again has been one of the most prolific 3-point shooters in the NBA, making an average of 2.8 on 7.1 shots per game. His absence will open up more minutes for Anthony Davis in the thin New Orleans frontcourt.
Eric Gordon, G3/11/2013 8:56:00 PM
Description: According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the Hornets have no plans to change their policy regarding Eric Gordon's availability on the second night of back-to-backs.
Insight: Call it the NBA's version of the Stephen Strasburg innings limit. Maybe next season we'll see the Hornets' coaching staff give their starting shooting guard a bit more leeway on back-to-backs but for now, fantasy owners should just expect Gordon not to play in them.
Eric Gordon, G3/11/2013 11:17:00 AM
Description: New Orleans shooting guard Eric Gordon sat out Sunday's game against Portland. Gordon doesn't play the second game of back-to-backs, but should be back for Tuesday's game against Brooklyn.
Insight: The Hornets' coaching staff has been adament about giving Gordon (16.6 ppg) his rest. Given that he only managed to get on the court for nine games last season and he's already played 26 in 2012-13, the strategy is working, but it's tough on fantasy owners.
Eric Gordon, G3/10/2013 6:45:00 PM
Description: New Orleans shooting guard Eric Gordon is sitting out Sunday's game against Portland. Gordon doesn't play the second game of back-to-backs.
Insight: The Hornets' coaching staff has been adament about giving Gordon (16.6 ppg) his rest. This maneuver might help Gordon in the long run but it certainly doesn't help fantasy owners right now.
Anthony Davis, PF3/9/2013 10:45:00 PM
Description: Hornets PF/C Anthony Davis had 20 points and 18 rebounds in 38 minutes Saturday versus Memphis.
Insight: The buzz around Davis has quieted some due to a few injures and inconsistent minutes but the kid can ball. He's averaging 16.7 points, 13 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in three games since returning from a shoulder injury.
Greivis Vasquez, G3/7/2013 9:44:00 AM
Description: Hornets point guard Greivis Vasquez didn't shoot the ball particularly well Wednesday against the Lakers (just 6-for-16) but fantasy owners probably aren't complaining about his 15 points, five rebounds and 12 assists.
Insight: Vasquez is pretty big for a point guard (6-foot-6) so it's not unusual for him to gobble up five or six rebounds on a given night. He's been a dominant passer all season, contributing 9.4 apg in 62 games this season. He's right on Chris Paul's heels for second in the NBA in that category. Paul is at 9.5 apg through 51 contests.
Austin Rivers, SG3/6/2013 9:46:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Austin Rivers has a right hand injury and won't return to Wednesday's game, according to John Reid of NOLA.com.
Insight: Rivers has just one double-digit scoring effort since Dec. 28 so he isn't a fantasy factor.
Anthony Davis, PF3/4/2013 9:55:00 AM
Description: Hornets PF/C Anthony Davis, who has a bone bruise in his left shoulder, participated in non-contact drills only at Sunday's practice and is questionable for Monday's game against Orlando.
Insight: Davis has missed two games in a row and 15 games, or 25 percent, of the season. This is not a good percentage for a top draft pick and the concern is that he's going to be the injury-prone type.
Eric Gordon, G3/1/2013 10:37:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon scored 21 points with four rebounds, three assists, two threes and one steal Friday against the Pistons.
Insight: When Gordon plays like this you almost don't mind that the team rests him for one game in back-to-backs to keep his knee healthy. He hasn't shot well this season (.397) but he has made up for it by hitting 4.4 free throws per game.
Greivis Vasquez, GHot3/1/2013 10:35:00 PM
Description: New Orleans point guard Greivis Vasquez had 25 points, nine assists, four rebounds, two assists and two steals Friday against Detroit.
Insight: Vasquez came into Friday's action tied with Chris Paul for second in the NBA in assists per game (9.4), but the leader Rajon Rondo is out for the season. Vasquez has added 13.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game to his lofty assists total.
Anthony Davis, PF3/1/2013 6:56:00 PM
Description: Hornets PF/C Anthony Davis has been diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left shoulder, according to Jim Eichenhofer of Hornets.com.
Insight: Davis hurt his shoulder in Tuesday's game and didn't play Wednesday. He'll miss Friday's game as well.
Anthony Davis, PF3/1/2013 4:44:00 PM
Description: Hornets PF/C Anthony Davis (sprained left shoulder) will miss Friday's game against Detroit, according to John Reid of the Times-Picayune.
Insight: Davis hurt his shoulder in Tuesday's game and had to miss Wednesday's contest. Ryan Anderson will get another start.
Jason Smith, C3/1/2013 4:43:00 PM
Description: Hornets PF/C Jason Smith (shoulder) will miss the rest of the season. SOURCE: Marc Spears, Yahoo!
Insight: Smith has a torn labrum in his right shoulder. He didn't carry much fantasy value but was taking minutes away from New Orleans' more viable big men.
Anthony Davis, PF3/1/2013 2:20:00 PM
Description: Hornets PF/C Anthony Davis (sprained left shoulder) didn't play Wednesday against the Thunder and is questionable for Friday's game against Detroit.
Insight: Davis hurt his shoulder in Tuesday's game and had it wrapped up on the bench twice. It was the second time in three days he had left a game early. Ryan Anderson should see a bump in minutes and production.
Eric Gordon, G2/27/2013 7:46:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon won't be available for Wednesday night's game against the Thunder. He still isn't allowed to play back-to-back games.
Insight: Gordon had a tough shooting night Tuesday versus Brooklyn (just 4-of-15 from the field). He should be back in the lineup Friday when the Hornets host the Pistons.
Anthony Davis, PF2/27/2013 4:15:00 PM
Description: Hornets PF/C Anthony Davis (shoulder) won't play Wednesday against the Thunder.
Insight: Davis hurt his shoulder in Tuesday's game and had it wrapped up on the bench twice. It was the second time in three days he has left a game early. Ryan Anderson will get a bump in value if he starts Wednesday's game.
Anthony Davis, PF2/27/2013 11:56:00 AM
Description: Hornets PF/C Anthony Davis left Tuesday's game with a left shoulder injury and is questionable for Wednesday's game against Oklahoma City.
Insight: This is the second time in three games Davis has left with an injury. Given that the Hornets have nothing to play for and Davis is their future star, they are expected to play conservatively with his health issues.
Anthony Davis, PF2/26/2013 10:13:00 PM
Description: Hornets PF/C Anthony Davis Anthony Davis left Tuesday's game with a shoulder injury.
Insight: Davis had his shoulder wrapped up initially and the team removed it so he could test it out. However, Jimmy Smith of NOLA.com is reporting that it is wrapped up again late in the fourth quarter. This is the second time in three games Davis has left with an injury.
Anthony Davis, PF2/23/2013 12:05:00 PM
Description: Hornets PF/C Anthony Davis Anthony Davis left Friday's game with a knee injury, but is probable for Sunday's game against Sacramento.
Insight: Davis probably could have returned to Friday's game, but the team played it safe with their future star. The rookie is averaging 12.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg and 1.8 bpg this season.
Eric Gordon, G2/22/2013 8:06:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon has returned to the starting lineup after missing Wednesday's game with a knee injury.
Insight: You'd think Gordon (16.6 ppg) was in his late thirties with all of the injuries he's had to overcome this season. He scored 14 when he played against the Mavericks earlier this season.
Eric Gordon, G2/22/2013 12:12:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon is expected to play in Friday's game against Dallas.
Insight: Gordon missed Wednesday's game for preventive maintenence - the team doesn't allow him to play on back-to-back nights because of his bad knee. He put up 20 points, two rebounds and one assist, but did turn the ball over four times in his last action against Chicago.
Eric Gordon, G2/20/2013 2:35:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon is expected to miss Wednesday's game against Cleveland. Preventive maintenence - the team doesn't allow him to play on back-to-back nights because of his bad knee.

Description: Hornets forward Al-Farouq Aminu had 10 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks Tuesday night against Chicago.

Anthony Davis, PF2/19/2013 10:23:00 PM
Description: Hornets forward-center Anthony Davis built off his strong game prior to the All-Star break with 15 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, four steals and one block in 33 minutes Tuesday against the Bulls.
Insight: Davis played just 21 minutes per game in the four games prior to Feb. 13, but the Hornets turned him loose for 28 in that game and he responded with 21 points and 11 boards. Tuesday's game makes two straight double-doubles for the talented rookie.
Eric Gordon, G2/18/2013 12:30:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon's MRI (sprained right hand) came back negative and he's is probable for Tuesday's game against Chicago.
Insight: Gordon numbers have dropped throughout the season and he averaged just 12.8 ppg, 0.5 rpg, 2.3 apg in four February games. He's also not playing in both ends of back-to-back games leaving owners with only a limited fantasy value.
Eric Gordon, G2/15/2013 6:55:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon's MRI came back negative. He's day-to-day with a sprained right hand. SOURCE: Joe Gerrity, ESPN TrueHoop Network
Insight: Gordon wanted to play Wednesday but doctors advised he sit since his current injury is near a previous one. The guard should be able to return after the All-Star break but the Hornets might choose to shop him before next Thursday's trade deadline. Gordon still isn't playing in both games of back-to-backs, and New Orleans has two back-to-backs in the next six games.
Eric Gordon, G2/14/2013 9:01:00 PM
Description: New Orleans shooting guard Eric Gordon is on the trading block again according to ESPN's Chris Broussard.

Insight: Wednesday was the sixth 20-point game of Davis' career. He's averaging 12.5 ppg through his first 40 NBA games.
Eric Gordon, G2/13/2013 7:41:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon will miss Wednesday's game with a sprained right hand, giving Austin Rivers a start. SOURCE: Jennifer Hale, New Orleans Hornets courtside reporter
Insight: Gordon (16.4 ppg) is still on a minutes limit due to his chronic bad knee and doesn't play in back-to-back games so his fantasy value is limited.
Eric Gordon, G2/13/2013 12:06:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon is questionable for Wednesday's game against Portland.
Insight: Gordon (16.4 ppg) should be good to go Wednesday night though he's on a minutes limit due to his chronic bad knee and doesn't play in back-to-back games.

Description: New Orleans power forward Ryan Anderson knocked down 13-of-21 shots for 31 points Monday in a win against Detroit.
Insight: Anderson (16.8 ppg, 6.4 rpg) was 5-of-9 from downtown. He'll have a chance to show off his shooting prowess this weekend in Houston at the Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout. Anderson, a 40.2 percent shooter from long range this season, finished fourth at the event last year in Orlando.
Eric Gordon, G2/11/2013 8:16:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon continued his recent trend of sitting out the second night of back-to-back games Monday against Detroit.
Insight: Rookie Austin Rivers (6.0 ppg) is making his 23rd start of the season. Gordon (16.4 ppg) should be good to go Wednesday night against Portland.
Eric Gordon, G2/11/2013 12:10:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon (knee) is expected to miss Monday's game against Detroit. The oft-injured guard does not play in back-to-back games.
Insight: Gordon struggled Sunday night scoring just six points of 2-of-7 shooting and turning the ball over six times. Fantasy owners at least need him to perform well when he's out there if he's not going to play every day.
Anthony Davis, PF2/10/2013 8:51:00 PM
Description: Hornets forward Anthony Davis only had two points with six boards in 19:32 Sunday against the Raptors.
Insight: The minutes restriction has caught up to Davis. He has produced 18 points total in 22 mpg over his last three games.
Greivis Vasquez, GHot2/8/2013 10:19:00 PM
Description: New Orleans point guard Greivis Vasquez picked up his first career triple-double Friday in a win over Atlanta.
Insight: The third-year guard continued his breakout season with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists. His average draft position this year was 115.9 in ESPN fantasy leagues. There's no way he'll be picked that late in 2013-14.
Greivis Vasquez, G2/7/2013 9:17:00 AM
Description: Hornets guard Greivis Vasquez turned in another solid performance Wednesday against Phoenix, leading the team with 19 points and 12 assists.
Insight: Vasquez was a phenomenal 8-of-9 from the field and didn't commit a single turnover. Of course the Suns (17-33) aren't the most challenging opponent Vasquez could have faced. He should have a much more difficult time producing Friday night against the Hawks.
Eric Gordon, G2/5/2013 5:19:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon (knee, back) will play Wednesday but he still hasn't been cleared to play back-to-back games. He should be able to play in three of four games during the upcoming four-games-in-six-nights stretch. SOURCE: NOLA.com
Insight: Gordon hasn't played since last Friday. He said the break was beneficial. "This has been big for me, definitely," Gordon said. "We had a lot of games on the road (five in eight nights last week), and even before the road trip we had a lot of games and it kind of wore down on me. I had some back spasms a little bit. I was hitting a lot of 3s during the trip, but it was really hard for me to maneuver around and get to the basket much. I'm definitely feeling better and fresher."
Eric Gordon, G2/2/2013 7:03:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon is out for Saturday's game against Minnesota because of a back injury.
Insight: Gordon was expected to play but at the last minute, the coaching staff thought it would be better to give him the night off. The fragile star should be back in action for the Hornets' next game Wednesday against Phoenix.
Eric Gordon, G2/2/2013 11:36:00 AM
Description: New Orleans Hornets guard Eric Gordon (right knee) is questionable for Saturday's game against Minnesota.
Insight: Gordon sat out the half of any back-to-back set and with his injury history is likely to miss any game, so fantasy owners must check back just before tip-off. He's averaging 16.9 points, 2.9 assists, 1.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.5 threes. If he plays, he should be started.
Eric Gordon, G2/1/2013 1:26:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon (right knee) is probable for Friday's game against Denver.
Insight: Gordon sat out the second half of a back-to-back set, but is coming off a 25-point, six-triple performance Tuesday against the Lakers. He's averaging 17.4 points, 3.0 assists, 1.7 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.6 threes with an .844 free-throw percentage in 14 games. If he plays, he should be started.
Ryan Anderson, F1/31/2013 10:21:00 AM
Description: Hornets forward Ryan Anderson is only averaging 14.9 ppg on 40.1 percent shooting over his last 22 games.
Insight: Anderson produced 19 ppg during that stretch, mainly because he played more minutes and made more threes. Anderson attempted 8.3 threes per game over that stretch and made 3.5 (.424); he has made 2.5 of 7.0 (.364) over his last 22.
Robin Lopez, C1/31/2013 10:16:00 AM
Description: Hornets center Robin Lopez had 15 points, nine rebounds, one steal and four blocks Wednesday at Utah.
Insight: Lopez has played 71 minutes over his last two games after getting less than 20 in three straight. While New Orleans' four-man rotation at power forward and center limits his value, Lopez' 11.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and .549/.782 shooting percentages fit in on any fantasy roster.
Eric Gordon, G1/30/2013 8:00:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon (knee) will get Wednesday's game off. SOURCE: New Orleans Times-Picayune
Insight: Gordon is coming off a 25-point, six-triple performance Tuesday against the Lakers. He's averaging 17.4 points, 3.0 assists, 1.7 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.6 threes with an .844 free-throw percentage in 14 games. Of course, he's always an injury risk so enjoy it while it lasts.
Austin Rivers, SG1/25/2013 9:30:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Austin Rivers injured his wrist after falling to the court Friday against Houston.
Insight: It looks like he's done for the night. Rivers has been useless this month, averaging just 2.4 ppg in 12 January appearances. Even in deep leagues, he's not a fantasy option.
Anthony Davis, PF1/23/2013 5:14:00 PM
Description: Hornets forward Anthony Davis (ankle) will play Wednesday versus San Antonio. SOURCE: Jimmy Smith, Times-Picayune
Insight: Davis has sprained his ankle several times this season and had to take three weeks off to avoid developing a stress fracture.
Anthony Davis, PF1/23/2013 11:40:00 AM
Description: Hornets forward Anthony Davis, who had to leave Monday's game against Sacramento after spraining his left ankle, is probable for Wednesday's game against San Antonio. He did practice on Tuesday.
Insight: Davis has been pretty fragile this season, playing just 28 games to date after dealing with a a previous sprained ankle and a concussion. Ryan Anderson (16.9 ppg) would probably get the start at power forward if Davis can't play on Wednesday.
Anthony Davis, PF1/21/2013 7:27:00 PM
Description: Hornets forward Anthony Davis had to leave Monday's game against Sacramento after spraining his ankle but he's hoping to play Wednesday at San Antonio.
Insight: We'll believe it when we see it. Davis has been pretty fragile this season, missing 11 games with a sprained ankle and another two with a concussion. Ryan Anderson (16.9 ppg) will probably get the start at power forward if Davis can't play on Wednesday.
Ryan Anderson, FHot1/21/2013 3:52:00 PM
Description: Hornets forward Ryan Anderson put together an excellent afternoon on Monday against Sacramento, scoring 27 points with six rebounds and a couple of assists.
Insight: Anderson (10-of-22 shooting) took advantage of additional playing time after Anthony Davis went down with a left ankle injury. If Davis is out for a while, Anderson should thrive.
Anthony Davis, PF1/21/2013 2:39:00 PM
Description: New Orleans power forward Anthony Davis left Monday's game with a sprained left ankle and will not return.
Insight: The 19-year-old has already missed 11 games due to a stress reaction in the same ankle earlier this season. He's averaging 13.2 ppg, and 8.0 rpg in 27 games this season.
Anthony Davis, PF1/20/2013 10:13:00 AM
Description: New Orleans power forward Anthony Davis racked up 20 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks Saturday in a loss to Golden State.
Insight: Saturday was the rookie's second straight double-double and the seventh of his career. Unfortunately, his struggles from the free throw line (just 2-of-7) may have cost his team the game. The 19-year-old will have a chance to redeem himself Monday night against the Kings.
Greivis Vasquez, G1/19/2013 1:39:00 PM
Description: New Orleans point guard Greivis Vasquez is questionable for Saturday's game against Golden State due to flu-like symptoms. He started feeling ill after Wednesday's game.
Insight: Vasquez has been playing at an All-Star level in January, averaging 17.2 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 9.7 apg. It would be tough to replace him if he can't run.
Eric Gordon, G1/19/2013 1:35:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon missed Wednesday's game against the Celtics with a sore right knee, but is expected to play on Saturday versus Golden State.
Insight: Gordon has averaged 16.9 ppg in eight games this season.
Eric Gordon, G1/17/2013 9:47:00 AM
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon missed Wednesday's game against the Celtics with a sore right knee, the team announced. SOURCE: John Reid, NOLA.com
Insight: Gordon has averaged 16.9 ppg in eight games this season. The Hornets probably would have given him the night off anyway since they also played Tuesday but it's not a good sign that he was also dealing with soreness. Gordon is expected to return to the lineup Saturday against the Warriors.
Eric Gordon, G1/16/2013 7:27:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon will get the night off Wednesday against the Celtics. He's resting his surgically repaired knee.
Insight: Gordon has averaged 16.9 ppg in eight games this season. With Gordon sidelined, rookie Austin Rivers (6.2 ppg) should see more minutes against his father's team.
Greivis Vasquez, GHot1/15/2013 9:59:00 PM
Description: New Orleans point guard Greivis Vasquez led the way with 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting, nine assists and three 3-pointers Tuesday versus Philadelphia. He also turned the ball over six times.
Insight: Vasquez has been playing at an All-Star level for a full month. In his last 17 games, the point guard is averaging 17.3 points, 10.2 assists, 5.1 rebounds, 0.9 steals and 1.5 threes per game.
Anthony Davis, PF1/15/2013 9:57:00 PM
Description: Hornets forward Anthony Davis' minutes have dipped to 23 per game over his last six contests.
Insight: Davis scored 10 points with seven boards, two assists, two steals and two blocks in just 21 minutes Tuesday against the 76ers. Reserve big man Jason Smith has also been playing 20-plus minutes per game over his last seven and cutting into Davis' playing time.
Anthony Davis, PF1/13/2013 2:53:00 PM
Description: Hornets forward Anthony Davis has only scored in double figures twice in the last eight games, including 13 points on 6-of-13 shooting Sunday against the Knicks.
Insight: Prior to getting 33 minutes on Sunday, Davis had only played 24 mpg through six games in January.
Eric Gordon, G1/13/2013 2:49:00 PM
Description: Hornets shooting guard Eric Gordon led the team with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting with three rebounds, two assists, two steals and one turnover Sunday against the Knicks.
Insight: Gordon is playing an average of 31 minutes in five games since joining the starting lineup. He's averaging 16.6 ppg this season through seven games despite shooting a pitiful 35.5 percent from the field.
Greivis Vasquez, GHot1/12/2013 11:40:00 AM
Description: New Orleans point guard Greivis Vasquez only shot 7-of-16 from the field Friday against the Timberwolves but he also had 13 assists.
Insight: Vasquez is averaging 17.7 ppg, 5.0 rpg and 11.3 apg in six January games. That's an All-Star level, but he's still available in 20 percent of all leagues.
Greivis Vasquez, GHot1/11/2013 10:28:00 PM
Description: New Orleans point guard Greivis Vasquez only shot 7-of-16 from the field Friday against the Timberwolves but he also had 13 assists.
Insight: Friday was Vasquez's third game in a row of 10 or more assists. That's Rajon Rondo-like. Vasquez continues to be one of this season's biggest fantasy surprises, but in a good way.
Al-Farouq Aminu, SF1/5/2013 3:21:00 PM
Description: The Hornets will start Al-Farouq Aminu at small forward on Saturday for the first time since Dec. 16. SOURCE: New Orleans Times-Picayune
Insight: Aminu has been in coach Monty Williams' doghouse for lacking energy and hustle but he recently moved back into the rotation and now will rejoin the starting lineup. Aminu was a valuable contributor in points, rebounds, assists and steals in the first half of November. This is the first time all season the Hornets will start their expected season-opening lineup.
Eric Gordon, G1/5/2013 3:18:00 PM
Description: Hornets coach Monty Williams has decided to start shooting guard Eric Gordon for the first time this season. SOURCE: New Orleans Times-Picayune
Insight: Gordon is set to see an increase in minutes from the 24 per game he has averaged in his first two games this season. The shooting guard missed the first two months of the season with a knee injury after playing just nine games last season.
Eric Gordon, G1/3/2013 7:41:00 PM
Description: Hornets coach Monty Williams acknowledged that he's "considering bumping up" Eric Gordon's minutes Saturday night against the Mavericks. SOURCE: New Orleans Times-Picayune
Insight: Gordon has only appeared in two games this season and hasn't played more than 25 minutes in either of them. He's averaging 35.6 minutes per game for his career but we doubt he plays more than 30 Saturday night in Dallas.
Greivis Vasquez, GHot1/2/2013 10:33:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Greivis Vasquez had 15 points and 14 assists with just two turnovers on Wednesday against the Rockets.
Insight: Vasquez has been near the top of the assist leaderboard all season but he has really turned the rest of his game up as of late. He's averaging 16.9 points on 46.7 percent shooting with 10.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds over his last 11 games.
Eric Gordon, G1/2/2013 6:47:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon won't play Wednesday against the Rockets during the second half of a back-to-back. He's still working his way back from a knee injury. SOURCE: Jonathan Feigen, Houston Chronicle
Insight: Gordon is on a minutes limit of around 25 per game and coach Monty Williams said he's not going to increase his playing time anytime soon. The shooting guard has scored 17.5 points with 5.0 assists and 1.5 steals in two games since returning from a season-long absence. New Orleans next plays on Saturday at Dallas and doesn't have another back-to-back until Jan. 15-16.
Gustavo Ayon, C1/2/2013 12:00:00 PM
Description: Magic center Gustavo Ayon is doubtful for Wednesday's game against Chicago after missing the previous game due to a bruised right thigh.
Insight: Ayon (3.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg) has only been playing 14.2 minutes per game so he's not fantasy worthy, but the extra playing time for starter Nikola Vucevic resulted in his posting 20 points and 29 rebounds in 47 minutes on Monday versus Miami.
Eric Gordon, G1/1/2013 7:19:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon will come off the bench again Tuesday against the Hawks and won't have his minutes increased, New Orleans coach Monty Williams said. SOURCE: Jim Eichenhofer, Hornets.com
Insight: When asked if he would increase Gordon's minutes from the 25 he played Saturday, Williams said "probably not much at all. We want to be smart about it." Gordon scored 24 points with seven assists, two steals and two threes in his season debut so we just want Williams to do whatever it takes to keep the shooting guard on the court.
Austin Rivers, SG12/30/2012 12:42:00 PM
Description: Hornets rookie guard Austin Rivers showed why he isn't yet a rosterable fantasy option when he scored zero points in 13 minutes Saturday.
Insight: Rivers scored 27 points on Dec. 14 but has only produced 52 total points the last eight games (6.5 ppg). Now that Eric Gordon is back in the lineup, Rivers' playing time will be even more inconsistent.
Robin Lopez, C12/30/2012 12:38:00 PM
Description: While 5.3 rebounds per game leave a lot to be desired from a 7-footer, Hornets center Robin Lopez' 12 ppg, 2.1 bpg and .560/.795 shooting percentages work on any fantasy roster.
Insight: Lopez is playing nearly 27 minutes per game as New Orleans' starting center. While the Hornets have three capable big men in Lopez, Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson, coach Monty Williams is getting them all plenty of playing time.
Greivis Vasquez, GHot12/30/2012 12:35:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Greivis Vasquez is averaging 17.1 points, 10.1 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 1.0 steals over his last nine games.
Insight: During that span, Vasquez has had four 20-point games, five double-digit assist games and six games with five or more rebounds while shooting 47.4 percent from the field.
Eric Gordon, G12/29/2012 10:26:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon had a very productive night in his season debut Saturday against Charlotte. In just 25 minutes, Gordon registered 24 points and seven assists.
Insight: Gordon was an excellent 12-of-14 from the free throw line. Gordon will always be a worthwhile fantasy player as long as he's healthy. If for some reason Gordon is still floating around on the waiver wire in your league, make sure to pick him up before somebody else gets a hold of him.
Eric Gordon, G12/29/2012 8:00:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon is active for Saturday's game against the Bobcats. Gordon missed the Hornets' first 29 games with a knee injury.
Insight: He's coming off the bench with Austin Rivers getting the start at shooting guard. Gordon is on a minutes limit for the time being (25) so fantasy owners might want to use a "wait and see" approach until Gordon finds his groove.
Greivis Vasquez, GHot12/28/2012 11:17:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Greivis Vasquez had another tremendous game Friday against Toronto, scoring 20 points with 14 assists and nine rebounds.
Insight: As usual, he also turned it over six times. However, fantasy owners have learned to live with the turnovers and occasional poor shooting since Vasquez is averaging more than 13 points and four rebounds with nearly nine assists per game.
Anthony Davis, PFHot12/28/2012 11:15:00 PM
Description: Hornets forward Anthony Davis scored 25 points with nine boards, one steal and three blocks Friday against the Raptors.
Insight: Davis has dealt with some injuries but has otherwise been as good as advertised. The rookie is averaging 14.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.7 blocks in 10 games since returning from an ankle injury.
Jason Smith, C12/28/2012 8:45:00 PM
Description: Hornets PF/C Jason Smith (shoulder) returned to action Friday for the first time in 2 1/2 weeks.
Insight: Smith (8.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.0 blocks) is behind Anthony Davis, Ryan Anderson and Robin Lopez on New Orleans' big man depth chart so he doesn't have much fantasy value right now.
Robin Lopez, C12/26/2012 10:34:00 PM
Description: Usually it's his brother Brook who gets all the headlines but Wednesday it was Robin Lopez who stole the show. The New Orleans big man went off for 29 points in a 97-94 win over the Magic.
Insight: Lopez was the anti-Dwight Howard, connecting on 11-of-12 free throw attempts. Despite Lopez's dominance on the offensive end, he left a lot to be desire in terms of rebounding. Collecting only three boards in 33 minutes is borderline pathetic for a 7-footer.
Greivis Vasquez, G12/26/2012 10:26:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Greivis Vasquez stuffed the stat sheet with 27 points, six rebounds and eight assists Wednesday in a win over the Magic.
Insight: Vasquez has been surprisingly effective this season. This was his sixth 20-point game of the year and it bumped his season scoring average to over 13 ppg. If Vasquez keeps this up, he might end up being one of this year's biggest fantasy bargains.
Eric Gordon, G12/26/2012 8:13:00 PM
Description: The Hornets are hoping guard Eric Gordon will be able to play Saturday against the Bobcats. Gordon has been out all season because of a knee injury.
Insight: Gordon is always an excellent scorer when he's healthy (18.2 ppg for his career). Unfortunately, he's been on the court just nine times in the last two seasons.
Eric Gordon, G12/24/2012 2:35:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon (knee) was back for his first full practice on Monday.
Insight: Gordon is aiming to play in December, and could actually return for New Orleans' game on Dec. 26 against the Magic if he gets in some practice time. The shooting guard has missed the entire season due to right knee soreness after missing all but nine games last year for the same reason. However, he's one of the more talented scorers in the NBA so fantasy owners should be quick to add him if he's out there.
Eric Gordon, G12/22/2012 7:17:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Eric Gordon (knee) has been cleared for full contact, New Orleans GM Dell Demps said. SOURCE: Jim Eichenhofer, Hornets.com
Ryan Anderson, FCold12/20/2012 11:57:00 AM
Description: Hornets forward Ryan Anderson has gone cold from behind the arc his last two games, making just 4-of-22, including 0-of-8 Wednesday versus the Clippers.
Insight: Anderson's seven points Wednesday tied a season low. It was also the first game this season in which he failed to hit a 3-pointer. We aren't worried, the forward has plenty of games like Dec. 16 (26 points, 7-10 3PT) left in him.
Robin Lopez, C12/20/2012 11:53:00 AM
Description: Hornets center Robin Lopez scored 22 points with nine rebounds and two blocks on 10-of-16 shooting Wednesday versus the Clippers. The points were a season high.
Insight: Lopez' ppg (11.2) and rpg (5.4) leave a lot to be desired but he's still a valuable mid-level fantasy center due to his 2.0 bpg, .537 shooting percentage and .780 free-throw percentage.
Anthony Davis, PF12/17/2012 10:50:00 AM
Description: Hornets rookie forward Anthony Davis had 15 points and five rebound in 33 minutes off the bench for New Orleans against Portland
Insight: Davis has been coming off the bench these days to limit his minutes, but if he's going to play this much he might as well start. As a starter he's averaging 16 ppg, 8.3 rpg and off the bench it's 12.5 ppg and 6.0 rpg while playing about the same 28 minutes per game.
Greivis Vasquez, G12/15/2012 10:27:00 AM
Description: Hornets point guard Greivis Vasquez set a new season high with 17 assists Friday against the Timberwolves. He also had 15 points, five rebounds and one block while making 50 percent of his shots.
Insight: Vasquez is averaging 12 ppg, 8.6 apg and 4.0 rpg so he's certainly a viable fantasy point guard. Just be prepared to deal with his poor shooting nights, like the 2-for-14 performance on Dec. 11.
Austin Rivers, SG12/15/2012 10:24:00 AM
Description: New Orleans guard Austin Rivers' career-high 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting (5-6 3PT) were not enough as the Hornets dropped Friday's game to Minnesota.
Insight: Rivers is averaging 14 points on 49.1 percent shooting his last five games after making just 28.3 percent of his field goal attempts while averaging 6.1 ppg in his first 16. He has some work to do to make fantasy owners forget about that poor start but at least he's on the right path.
Jason Smith, C12/14/2012 6:57:00 PM
Description: Hornets PF/C Jason Smith will miss up to two weeks due to a shoulder sprain. SOURCE: Jim Eichenhofer, Hornets.com
Insight: Anthony Davis, Robin Lopez and Ryan Anderson will absorb Smith's (8.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 1.0 bpg) 18 minutes per game, coach Monty Williams said.
Ryan Anderson, F12/11/2012 11:10:00 PM
Description: Hornets forward Ryan Anderson only shot 7-of-21 from the field (3-12 3PT) for 17 points with 11 rebounds Tuesday against the Wizards.
Insight: Anderson came in having made 50 percent of his field goal attempts and 47.9 percent of his 3-pointers while averaging 19.9 ppg in his previous 15 games so he was due for a cold spell.
Anthony Davis, PF12/11/2012 11:08:00 PM
Description: Hornets rookie forward Anthony Davis (ankle) returned to the team after an 11-game absence Tuesday and scored 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting (3-3 FT) with eight rebounds, three steals and three blocks in 25 minutes off the bench.
Insight: Davis was sidelined with a stress reaction in his ankle. He should return to the starting lineup soon and should be activated in all leagues.
Al-Farouq Aminu, SF12/11/2012 6:48:00 PM
Description: Hornets small forward Al-Farouq Aminu will move back into the starting lineup Tuesday after being benched the last two games. SOURCE: Jim Eichenhofer, Hornets.com
Insight: Aminu was reportedly benched for lacking passion and only played eight minutes Saturday after picking up a DNP-CD Friday. His production has slipped after a hot start. He's only scored in double figures in three of his last 12 games.
Anthony Davis, PF12/11/2012 4:30:00 PM
Description: Hornets rookie forward Anthony Davis (ankle) will make his return Tuesday but will come off the bench as the team tries to ease him back into the lineup. SOURCE: Sean Kelley, Hornets radio broadcaster
Insight: Davis sprained his ankle three times in as many days in late November and an MRI revealed a stress reaction. The rookie missed 11 games. While he won't return to 30 mpg right away, he'll likely play enough minutes Tuesday to warrant a start in fantasy leagues.
Anthony Davis, PF12/10/2012 4:10:00 PM
Description: Hornets rookie forward Anthony Davis (ankle) practiced Monday and could return Tuesday against the Wizards. SOURCE: NOLA.com
Insight: Davis sprained his ankle three times in as many days in late November and an MRI revealed a stress reaction. He's not a sure thing for Tuesday's game since he'll have to meet the final clearance that involves testing the strength in his ankle but he's getting close.
Robin Lopez, C12/8/2012 10:12:00 PM
Description: Hornets center Robin Lopez scored 20 points with eight boards and a block Saturday against the Heat.
Insight: Lopez only scored two points Friday against Memphis but that was his only single-digit scoring effort in his last six games. With a .542 shooting percentage, .772 free-throw percentage and 1.9 blocks per game, Lopez offers plenty of value to fantasy owners.
Jason Smith, C12/7/2012 1:35:00 PM
Description: Hornets PF/C Jason Smith is questionable for Friday's game against Memphis with a sore knee. He'll be a game-time decision.
Insight: Smith will warm up prior to the game before deciding to play or sit. Robin Lopez (12.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.1 apg) benefits with more PT if Smith sits.
Robin Lopez, C12/3/2012 10:47:00 PM
Description: Hornets center Robin Lopez scored 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting with four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block Monday versus Milwaukee.
Insight: Since going 3-of-17 from the field but making 15-of-17 from the foul line for 21 points on Nov. 21, Lopez has shot 60 percent (33-of-55) from the field in six games.
Austin Rivers, SGCold12/3/2012 10:46:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Austin Rivers went 0-of-5 from the field Monday against the Bucks.
Insight: Rivers has only made 3-of-18 from the field his last three games. He's not a fantasy factor at this time.
Willie Green, G12/3/2012 10:28:00 AM
Description: Clippers guard Willie Green is questionable for Monday's game against Utah due to a knee injury. He's missed the Clippers last two games.
Insight: Green has averaged less than 9 ppg for the last four seasons and that isn't likely to change on a team with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Caron Butler, Grant Hill, Lamar Odom and Jamal Crawford.
Anthony Davis, PF11/25/2012 2:39:00 PM
Description: Hornets rookie forward Anthony Davis could miss another two weeks with a stress reaction in his left ankle. SOURCE: NOLA.com
Insight: Davis sprained his ankle three times in as many days and an MRI revealed the stress reaction Sunday. If Davis doesn't rest his injury could lead to the more serious stress fracture. It's possible his return could be delayed until sometime during the stretch from Dec. 3-8.
Anthony Davis, PF11/25/2012 11:03:00 AM
Description: Hornets PF Anthony Davis is expected to miss Sunday's game against Denver with a stress reaction in left ankle.
Insight: Backup power forward Ryan Anderson has averaged 22 ppg when filling in for Davis this season.
Greivis Vasquez, GHot11/24/2012 9:18:00 AM
Description: Hornets point guard Greivis Vasquez turned in his best game of the season Friday against the Suns. He finished the evening with 25 points, 14 assists and five rebounds.
Insight: Vasquez played a season-high 43 minutes for New Orleans. The former University of Maryland guard has emerged this season as one of the game's top distributors. He's third in the league in apg (9.0) behind Rajon Rondo and Chris Paul.
Ryan Anderson, FHot11/24/2012 9:12:00 AM
Description: Hornets forward Ryan Anderson piled on 34 points in a loss to Phoenix on Friday night.
Insight: Anderson's point total was a season-high. He also came down with 11 rebounds, giving Anderson his third double-double of the season. Anderson leads New Orleans in scoring this season with 17.9 ppg.
Anthony Davis, PF11/23/2012 7:58:00 PM
Description: As expected, Hornets forward Anthony Davis will be out for Friday's game in Phoenix.
Insight: Davis has now missed three games in a row due to a stress reaction in his ankle. Backup power forward Ryan Anderson has averaged 13.3 ppg when filling in for Davis this season.
Anthony Davis, PF11/23/2012 7:03:00 PM
Description: New Orleans power forward Anthony Davis isn't expected to play against Phoenix on Friday. Davis is still dealing with an ankle injury.
Insight: The Hornets are 1-3 without Davis this season. If Davis (16 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 2.2 bpg) isn't in the lineup Friday, his next chance to play will be Sunday against Denver.
Ryan Anderson, FHot11/22/2012 11:55:00 AM
Description: New Orleans power forward Ryan Anderson has made 22 3-pointers in 45 attempts over his last six games. He's averaging 18.7 ppg in that span.
Insight: It didn't seem possible, but Anderson has actually attempted, and made, more 3-pointers per game than last season.
Al-Farouq Aminu, SF11/22/2012 11:52:00 AM
Description: Hornets small forward Al-Farouq Aminu scored 14 points with 10 rebounds on 6-of-9 shooting Wednesday against the Pacers.
Insight: Aminu played 46 minutes in an overtime loss. He was able to bounce back from a zero-point effort Tuesday against the Knicks and has maintained solid all-around numbers through 10 games.
Robin Lopez, C11/22/2012 11:50:00 AM
Description: Hornets center Robin Lopez made just 3-of-17 from the field Wednesday against the Pacers but hit 15-of-17 at the charity stripe en route to 21 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and four blocks.
Insight: Lopez topped his season highs in points, rebounds, shots attempted, free throws attempted and free throws made Wednesday while tying his season best in blocked shots.
Anthony Davis, PF11/21/2012 6:40:00 PM
Description: Hornets forward Anthony Davis is out for Wednesday night's game against the Pacers. He's dealing with soreness in his left ankle.
Insight: This will be the fourth game Davis has missed this season. Sharp-shooting forward Ryan Anderson (16.2 ppg, eight rpg) will pick up the start in Davis' absence.
Anthony Davis, PF11/20/2012 7:17:00 PM
Description: New Orleans power forward Anthony Davis won't be available for Tuesday night's game against the Knicks. Davis is dealing with a stress reaction in his left ankle.
Insight: He's also expected to miss Wednesday's game in Indiana. Injuries have been a bit of an issue for Davis early in his NBA career. He's already missed two games this month due to a concussion.
Anthony Davis, PF11/20/2012 1:18:00 PM
Description: Hornets power forward Anthony Davis is probable for Tuesday's game against New York with a sore left ankle.
Insight: Davis has been everything we expected and more. He's averaging 16.0 ppg, 8.3 rpg and 2.2 bpg. He posted 28 points and 11 rebounds versus Milwaukee in his last outing.
Anthony Davis, PF11/18/2012 10:47:00 AM
Description: Hornets power forward Anthony Davis produced more fantasy magic Saturday against the Bucks, going off for 28 points and 11 rebounds in just 32 minutes of action.
Insight: Another stellar performance by The Brow, who has averaged a remarkable 16 ppg through the first six games of his NBA career. He's also averaging 8.3 rpg while blocking shots at a rate of 2.2 rejections per contest. The 19-year-old's next test comes Tuesday night against the Knicks.
Greivis Vasquez, GHot11/16/2012 6:07:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Greivis Vasquez (ankle) will start Friday despite tweaking his right ankle Wednesday. SOURCE: John Reid, New Orleans Times-Picayune
Insight: Vasquez had a career-high 24 points Wednesday and was able to practice Thursday. Make sure the point guard is in your lineup Friday. He's averaging 12.3 points, 8.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game this season.
Greivis Vasquez, G11/15/2012 9:45:00 AM
Description: New Orleans guard Greivis Vasquez registered a career-high 24 points Wednesday in a loss to Houston.
Insight: Vasquez also chipped in with nine assists. He's averaging a career-best 12.3 ppg this season and should continue to see plenty of playing time while Eric Gordon is out with a knee injury.
Austin Rivers, SG11/12/2012 2:04:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Austin Rivers rolled his right ankle in practice Monday but he's still expected to play Tuesday. SOURCE: New Orleans Times-Picayune
Insight: That could change if he wakes up in pain Tuesday. Rivers has already dealt with a bunch of injuries this season and is only averaging 5.5 points, 3.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds in 29 minutes per game while shooting 21.9 percent from the field. He's not really worth the trouble right now.
Ryan Anderson, F11/10/2012 9:44:00 AM
Description: New Orleans power forward Ryan Anderson led the team in scoring Friday against Charlotte with 25 points off the bench.
Insight: An incredibly efficient performance from Anderson, who only played 28 minutes on Friday night. He's averaging 15.2 ppg and 8.2 rpg through five games. That's pretty close to the 16.1 ppg/7.7 rpg line he posted with the Magic in 2011-12 when he was a starter.
Anthony Davis, PFHot11/9/2012 10:34:00 PM
Description: New Orleans forward Anthony Davis was sensational in his return from a concussion Friday against Charlotte. He poured in 23 points and 11 rebounds while also collecting five rejections.
Insight: Davis has been even better than advertised so far. Make sure he's in your lineup Wednesday when the Hornets travel to Houston.
Austin Rivers, SG11/9/2012 7:03:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Austin Rivers will start Friday night's game against Charlotte. He missed the team's game on Wednesday because of a sprained finger.
Insight: Rivers is shooting just 20 percent this season. He'll try to improve that percentage tonight against the 1-2 Bobcats.
Anthony Davis, PF11/9/2012 12:17:00 PM
Description: Hornets F Anthony Davis (concussion) is expected to play Friday's game against Charlotte. SOURCE, Jimmy Smith, New Orleans Times-Picayune
Insight: Davis looked great in the opener (21 pts, 7 rebs, 1 stl, 1 blk) and was on his way to another strong performance in the second game with 8 pts, 6 rebs, 1 stl and 2 blks in 14:25 before leaving with a concussion. He's a must start.
Anthony Davis, PF11/8/2012 2:05:00 PM
Description: Hornets F Anthony Davis says he's had no recurrence of concussion symptoms and hopes to play Friday versus Charlotte.
Austin Rivers, SG11/7/2012 5:48:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Austin Rivers is a no-go for Wednesday's game against Philadelphia. Rivers has a sprained finger.
Insight: The rookie out of Duke has averaged a pedestrian six ppg in three appearances this season. For now, consider him day-to-day.
Anthony Davis, PF11/7/2012 5:45:00 PM
Description: Hornets power forward Anthony Davis won't be available for Wednesday's game against the 76ers. Davis suffered a concussion during a game last Friday and is still recovering.
Insight: Head coach Monty Williams has caused controversy by questioning the league's concussion policies in the wake of Davis' injury. The Hornets are hoping Davis will be able to play Friday against Charlotte.
Anthony Davis, PF11/7/2012 10:39:00 AM
Description: New Orleans rookie center Anthony Davis is questionable for Wednesday's game against Philadelphia with a concussion.
Insight: The league is being very careful with the injury and there is no guarantee that Davis will play Wednesday. He's a fantasy stud in the making, who is averaging 14.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg and 1.5 blocks in his first two starts.
Anthony Davis, PF11/4/2012 11:09:00 AM
Description: New Orleans head coach Monty Williams is frustrated by the way the league is handling Anthony Davis's concussion. SOURCE: Associated Press.
Insight: "They're treating these guys like they're five years old," Williams said while claiming that Davis is fine and should have been allowed to play Saturday against the Bulls. Davis is still considered questionable for Wednesday's game versus the 76ers.
Anthony Davis, PF11/3/2012 10:22:00 AM
Description: Hornets forward Anthony Davis will not play Saturday. He didn't travel with the team to Chicago and instead will undergo concussion testing in New Orleans.
Insight: Davis was inadvertently elbowed in the head by teammate Austin Rivers Friday night and suffered a mild concussion.
Ryan Anderson, F11/2/2012 10:37:00 PM
Description: Hornets forward Ryan Anderson came off the bench again Friday but had a much better game than the opener. Anderson dropped 19 points with six rebounds on the Utah Jazz.
Insight: In a performance reminiscent of last season, Anderson drained five 3-pointers on nine attempts. His ability to knock down the long-range shot should keep his fantasy value high even if he continues to come off the bench.
Robin Lopez, C11/2/2012 10:35:00 PM
Description: Hornets center Robin Lopez scored 19 points with seven rebounds Friday against the Jazz.
Insight: Since the two joined the league, Brook has been the only Lopez brother worth owning in fantasy. However, Robin is someone to watch this season. He's locked into New Orleans' starting center spot.
Al-Farouq Aminu, SF11/2/2012 10:34:00 PM
Description: Hornets small forward Al-Farouq Aminu had his second straight excellent effort to start the season Friday against the Jazz. Aminu scored 15 points with eight rebounds and two steals.
Insight: Aminu played 37 minutes and scored 17 points with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals on 8-of-16 shooting in the opener. Don't sleep on New Orleans' starting small forward.
Anthony Davis, PF11/2/2012 9:25:00 PM
Description: Hornets forward Anthony Davis left Friday's game with a possible concussion.
Insight: Davis took an elbow to the temple from teammate Austin Rivers and had to be taken to the locker room for concussion testing.
Eric Gordon, G11/2/2012 5:42:00 PM
Description: According to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports, Hornets guard Eric Gordon (knee) said that a doctor in Chicago told him that he can return in 4-6 weeks.
Insight: The talented Gordon is rarely healthy. If you haven't drafted yet, let him be someone else's headache.
Greivis Vasquez, G11/1/2012 5:13:00 PM
Description: Hornets point guard Greivis Vasquez scored just eight points in Wednesday's season opener but he dished out 13 assists and grabbed six boards in 37.5 minutes.
Insight: Vasquez will start at point guard for the time being so he's a must-own fantasy player. Vasquez averaged 12 points and 7.0 assists per game in 26 starts last season compared to 7.0 and 4.5 in 40 games off the bench.
Al-Farouq Aminu, SF11/1/2012 5:07:00 PM
Description: Hornets small forward Al-Farouq Aminu led the team in field goal attempts in the season opener Wednesday.
Insight: Aminu played 37 minutes and scored 17 points with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals on 8-of-16 shooting. Aminu is worth owning for the time being but he could lose his starting SF spot to Ryan Anderson if he doesn't continue to produce.
Anthony Davis, PF11/1/2012 9:16:00 AM
Description: Hornets forward Anthony Davis was as good as advertised in his NBA debut. The 2012 No. 1 overall pick scored 21 points and corralled seven rebounds in 29 minutes of action Wednesday night.
Insight: Davis also blocked a shot and made all nine of his free throw tries. Sky is the limit for this talented 19-year-old. You can expect him to have an excellent rookie season.
Eric Gordon, G10/31/2012 2:52:00 PM
Description: Hornets coach Monty Williams announced that New Orleans guard Eric Gordon (knee) is out indefinitely with a sore right knee.
Insight: It's a bad sign that he's already experiencing knee soreness when he missed so much time last season with knee issues. In the nine games he played last season he averaged 20.6 ppg, 2.8 rpg and 3.4 apg. We await more news on the problem, but for now you must plan your lineups for an extended period of time without the talented guard.
Eric Gordon, G10/30/2012 8:42:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon (knee) is a game-time call for Wednesday's game against the Spurs.
Insight: "It's hard to say right now," Gordon said of his chances of playing in the season opener. Even if he plays, it's a bad sign that he's already experiencing knee soreness when he missed so much time last season with knee issues.
Eric Gordon, G10/28/2012 2:11:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon (knee) could start in the season opener of everything goes well with his contact drills Sunday.
Insight: This will be the first time since training camp opened on Oct. 2 that Gordon has participated in contact drills. Even though he might play in the opener, it's a bad sign that he's already experiencing knee soreness when he missed so much time last season with knee issues.
Austin Rivers, SG10/27/2012 6:43:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Austin Rivers is doing well after tweaking his ankle in Friday night's preseason game against the Heat. He should be ready for Wednesday's regular season opener against the Spurs.
Insight: If Eric Gordon remains sidelined with a sore knee, Rivers could open the season as the team's starting shooting guard.
Greivis Vasquez, G10/27/2012 10:51:00 AM
Description: Hornets point guard Greivis Vasquez scored 18 points with 10 assists in Friday's preseason game versus the Heat.
Insight: Vasquez is seemingly locked in to be New Orleans' starting point guard to start the season, especially after Austin Rivers aggravated his ankle injury Friday. Vasquez averaged 12 points and 7.0 assists per game in 26 starts last season compared to 7.0 and 4.5 in 40 games off the bench.
Austin Rivers, SG10/26/2012 10:23:00 PM
Description: Hornets guard Austin Rivers re-injured his right ankle Friday night against the Heat.
Insight: Rivers had six points on 2-of-6 shooting before the ankle injury forced him out of the game. The rookie from Duke will have a few days to rest up before New Orleans opens its regular season Wednesday versus the Spurs.
Austin Rivers, SG10/24/2012 4:49:00 PM
Description: New Orleans rookie guard Austin Rivers will miss Wednesday's preseason game against the Rockets to rest his sprained ankle. Rivers suffered the injury Monday night during a game against Dallas.
Insight: Rivers will open the season as a backup to starting point guard Greivis Vasquez. He averaged 15.5 ppg on 43.3 percent shooting last season at Duke.
Anthony Davis, PF10/19/2012 12:01:00 PM
Description: New Orleans rookie forward/center Anthony Davis hasn't played like a rookie in preseason, averaging 15.3 ppg and 8.3 rpg. He scored 19 with seven boards and a block on Thursday night.
Insight: Davis has shown more of a shooting touch than expected and will go high in fantasy drafts. He's going to see a lot of minutes on a weak team which usually means plenty of opportunities to shine. He should also finish top-five in blocks.
Eric Gordon, G10/15/2012 8:23:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon said he plans to spend the rest of this week doing extensive running and strength work to see how his sore right knee responds, according to John Reid of the New Orleans Times Picayune.
Insight: There's no timetable for Gordon's return. The shooting guard said he wants to put a "real toll" on his right knee, on which he underwent surgery last year, this week and see how it feels. Gordon is currently going at an ADP of 53.1 in Yahoo! leagues, which seems a little high considering he played just nine games last season and already is injured.
Willie Green, G10/15/2012 3:03:00 PM
Description: It appears Willie Green will start at shooting guard for the Clippers this season, but that doesn't mean he's greatly increased his fantasy value.
Insight: Green has averaged less than 9 ppg for the last four seasons and that isn't likely to change on a team with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Caron Butler, Grant Hill, Lamar Odom and Jamal Crawford.
Eric Gordon, G10/8/2012 8:23:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon won't compete in any preseason games this week because of an injured right knee.
Insight: It's the same knee Gordon had surgery on. When he's on the floor, Gordon is one of the game's elite scorers but this year, as it has been for most of his career, his health remains a question mark.
Eric Gordon, G10/1/2012 7:13:00 PM
Description: According to Jimmy Smith of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the Hornets said guard Eric Gordon will be limited early in camp because of right knee soreness. Gordon missed all but nine games last season with knee issues.
Insight: Gordon is talented but he just hasn't been able to stay healthy. The team did match Phoenix's offer sheet for him but that doesn't necessarily mean they are confident in his knee. It's more likely the Hornets re-signed Gordon because they felt pressured to have a tangible asset remaining from the Chris Paul trade. Fantasy owners would be wise to avoid this frustrating situation.
Robin Lopez, C7/28/2012 9:07:00 PM
Description: The Suns shipped center Robin Lopez to the Hornets as part of a three-team trade on Friday.
Insight: Lopez didn't have a chance to start with the Suns in 2011-12, but he could have that opportunity next season in New Orleans. Look for him to improve upon the 5.4 ppg and 3.3 rpg he averaged last year.
Hakim Warrick, F7/28/2012 9:03:00 PM
Description: Forward Hakim Warrick was sent to the Hornets Friday as part of a three-team trade between Minnesota, New Orleans and Phoenix.
Insight: Warrick (6.4 ppg, 2.6 rpg in 35 games for the Suns in 2011-12) isn't likely to see many minutes behind Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson. You can ignore Warrick in fantasy leagues next season.
Eric Gordon, G7/14/2012 8:18:00 PM
Description: It's official: the Hornets have matched Phoenix's offer for guard Eric Gordon meaning that he will remain with New Orleans next season. The new deal will pay the 23-year-old $58 million over the next four years.
Insight: Gordon only played in nine games last season but when he was on the court, he was very productive (20.6 ppg). In Gordon's latest endeavor, he was one of the last two players cut from the US Olympic team.
Anthony Davis, PF7/13/2012 9:41:00 PM
Description: New Orleans forward/center Anthony Davis was originally selected as an alternate for Team USA for the upcoming London Olympics but he's been promoted to the team's active roster now that Blake Griffin is out with a torn meniscus.
Insight: In his first taste of international hoops action Thursday night in Las Vegas, Davis poured in nine points in 10 minutes in the fourth quarter as the US crushed the John Calipari-coached Dominican Republic team by a score of 113-59. Davis probably won't see a whole lot of playing time in the Olympics unless all the games are blowouts (which could be a possibility) but it should still be a valuable learning experience for the Hornets rookie.
Greivis Vasquez, G7/11/2012 4:01:00 PM
Description: Now that Jarrett Jack has been dealt to Golden State, the Hornets will likely start Greivis Vasquez at point guard.
Insight: That is, unless New Orleans acquires another point guard. However, Vasquez proved to be very capable as a fill-in starter last season, averaging 12 ppg and 7.0 apg in 26 starts.
Eric Gordon, G7/10/2012 9:31:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Ric Bucher, New Orleans will match shooting guard Eric Gordon's offer from the Suns.
Insight: Gordon expressed his desire in going to Phoenix but New Orleans wasn't about to let its top acquisition from the Chris Paul trade get away for nothing. Gordon is a supremely talented offensive player but he has had trouble staying on the court in his career.
Ryan Anderson, F7/8/2012 4:38:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN.com, the Hornets will trade forward Ryan Anderson to the New Orleans Hornets. Anderson will sign a four-year deal with between $34-36 million.
Insight: Anderson showed what he could do playing alongside an elite center last season, as he averaged 16.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in 61 games. Anderson made 166 threes last season with Dwight Howard drawing defenders to the paint. The forward will now get to play with No. 1 overall pick Anthony Davis.
Eric Gordon, G7/4/2012 12:03:00 PM
Description: Restricted free agent Eric Gordon and the Phoenix Suns have apparently agreed to terms on a deal, but the New Orleans Hornets have the right to match.
Insight: When healthy, Gordon can be a dynamic offensive weapon and he's averaged more than 20 ppg the past two seasons. The problem is whether he'll ever be healthy. He played just nine games last season and less than 63 in each of the previous two years primarily due to knee problems. His fantasy value is probably higher in New Orleans.
Anthony Davis, PF7/2/2012 10:25:00 PM
Description: Hornets forward and No. 1 overall draft pick Anthony Davis has suffered a sprained ankle and is doubtful to play for Team USA in the upcoming London Olympics.
Insight: This probably won't affect Davis' status with New Orleans as he'll have plenty of time to recover before the regular seasons starts. Davis was considered a longshot to make the Olympic team anyway.
Eric Gordon, G7/1/2012 3:59:00 PM
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon was scheduled to meet with the Rockets on Sunday and is expected to visit the Pacers on Monday.
Insight: The Suns have already said that they will make an offer to Gordon and the Hornets remain interested as well. Gordon's 2011-12 campaign was derailed by injuries but when he was on the court his stats (20.6 ppg, 3.4 apg) were similar to the ones he posted while he was with the Clippers in 2010-11 (22.3 ppg, 4.4 apg). Gordon should be a threat to score 20-plus ppg for whoever he plays for next season.
Eric Gordon, G6/30/2012 10:13:00 PM
Description: Sports Illustrated reports that the Suns are ready to make a "large offer" to New Orleans guard Eric Gordon when he becomes a free agent on Sunday.
Insight: Gordon, along with Deron Williams, Steve Nash and Ray Allen are thought to be among the most sought-after free agents in basketball this offseason. Certainly the Hornets will try everything in their power to retain their young star but if the Suns offer him the most money, Gordon (20.6 ppg, 3.4 apg last season) could very well be playing in Phoenix in 2012-13.
Austin Rivers, SG6/28/2012 8:35:00 PM
Description: Austin Rivers was selected by the Hornets as the 10th overall pick in Thursday night's NBA Draft.
Insight: Rivers had an up and down season as a freshman at Duke last year (15.4 ppg) but when he's on his game, Rivers can be an elite scorer with great range and incredible quickness. He'll join a New Orleans backcourt that already includes Greivis Vasquez, Jarret Jack and Eric Gordon.
Anthony Davis, PF6/28/2012 7:43:00 PM
Description: Kentucky center Anthony Davis has been selected No. 1 overall by the New Orleans Hornets in the 2012 NBA Draft.
Insight: No surprise there. The NBA has such a dearth of quality shot-blockers that Davis immediately becomes an early-round fantasy selection as a rookie. He needs to develop his offensive game more, but he does have a foundation there as he was a shooting guard in high school before a growth spurt forced a position change. Davis effectively has a chance to replicate Serge Ibaka's block totals (3.7 bpg) from last season while contributing more points and rebounds than Ibaka did in 2011-12.
