Insight: Lopez is playing nearly 27 minutes per game as New Orleans' starting center. While the Hornets have three capable big men in Lopez, Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson, coach Monty Williams is getting them all plenty of playing time.

Description: Usually it's his brother Brook who gets all the headlines but Wednesday it was Robin Lopez who stole the show. The New Orleans big man went off for 29 points in a 97-94 win over the Magic.
Insight: Lopez was the anti-Dwight Howard, connecting on 11-of-12 free throw attempts. Despite Lopez's dominance on the offensive end, he left a lot to be desire in terms of rebounding. Collecting only three boards in 33 minutes is borderline pathetic for a 7-footer.

Insight: Vasquez is averaging 12 ppg, 8.6 apg and 4.0 rpg so he's certainly a viable fantasy point guard. Just be prepared to deal with his poor shooting nights, like the 2-for-14 performance on Dec. 11.

Insight: In a performance reminiscent of last season, Anderson drained five 3-pointers on nine attempts. His ability to knock down the long-range shot should keep his fantasy value high even if he continues to come off the bench.
Description: Hornets center Robin Lopez scored 19 points with seven rebounds Friday against the Jazz.
Insight: Since the two joined the league, Brook has been the only Lopez brother worth owning in fantasy. However, Robin is someone to watch this season. He's locked into New Orleans' starting center spot.
Description: Hornets small forward Al-Farouq Aminu had his second straight excellent effort to start the season Friday against the Jazz. Aminu scored 15 points with eight rebounds and two steals.
Insight: Aminu played 37 minutes and scored 17 points with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals on 8-of-16 shooting in the opener. Don't sleep on New Orleans' starting small forward.
Description: According to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports, Hornets guard Eric Gordon (knee) said that a doctor in Chicago told him that he can return in 4-6 weeks.
Insight: The talented Gordon is rarely healthy. If you haven't drafted yet, let him be someone else's headache.

Insight: Vasquez will start at point guard for the time being so he's a must-own fantasy player. Vasquez averaged 12 points and 7.0 assists per game in 26 starts last season compared to 7.0 and 4.5 in 40 games off the bench.

Insight: Rivers had six points on 2-of-6 shooting before the ankle injury forced him out of the game. The rookie from Duke will have a few days to rest up before New Orleans opens its regular season Wednesday versus the Spurs.

Description: New Orleans rookie forward/center Anthony Davis hasn't played like a rookie in preseason, averaging 15.3 ppg and 8.3 rpg. He scored 19 with seven boards and a block on Thursday night.
Insight: Davis has shown more of a shooting touch than expected and will go high in fantasy drafts. He's going to see a lot of minutes on a weak team which usually means plenty of opportunities to shine. He should also finish top-five in blocks.
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon said he plans to spend the rest of this week doing extensive running and strength work to see how his sore right knee responds, according to John Reid of the New Orleans Times Picayune.
Insight: There's no timetable for Gordon's return. The shooting guard said he wants to put a "real toll" on his right knee, on which he underwent surgery last year, this week and see how it feels. Gordon is currently going at an ADP of 53.1 in Yahoo! leagues, which seems a little high considering he played just nine games last season and already is injured.
Description: It appears Willie Green will start at shooting guard for the Clippers this season, but that doesn't mean he's greatly increased his fantasy value.
Insight: Green has averaged less than 9 ppg for the last four seasons and that isn't likely to change on a team with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Caron Butler, Grant Hill, Lamar Odom and Jamal Crawford.
Description: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon won't compete in any preseason games this week because of an injured right knee.
Insight: It's the same knee Gordon had surgery on. When he's on the floor, Gordon is one of the game's elite scorers but this year, as it has been for most of his career, his health remains a question mark.

It's more likely the Hornets re-signed Gordon because they felt pressured to have a tangible asset remaining from the Chris Paul trade. Fantasy owners would be wise to avoid this frustrating situation.
Description: The Suns shipped center Robin Lopez to the Hornets as part of a three-team trade on Friday.
Insight: Lopez didn't have a chance to start with the Suns in 2011-12, but he could have that opportunity next season in New Orleans. Look for him to improve upon the 5.4 ppg and 3.3 rpg he averaged last year.
Description: Forward Hakim Warrick was sent to the Hornets Friday as part of a three-team trade between Minnesota, New Orleans and Phoenix.
Insight: Warrick (6.4 ppg, 2.6 rpg in 35 games for the Suns in 2011-12) isn't likely to see many minutes behind Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson. You can ignore Warrick in fantasy leagues next season.
Description: It's official: the Hornets have matched Phoenix's offer for guard Eric Gordon meaning that he will remain with New Orleans next season. The new deal will pay the 23-year-old $58 million over the next four years.
Insight: Gordon only played in nine games last season but when he was on the court, he was very productive (20.6 ppg). In Gordon's latest endeavor, he was one of the last two players cut from the US Olympic team.
Description: New Orleans forward/center Anthony Davis was originally selected as an alternate for Team USA for the upcoming London Olympics but he's been promoted to the team's active roster now that Blake Griffin is out with a torn meniscus.
Insight: In his first taste of international hoops action Thursday night in Las Vegas, Davis poured in nine points in 10 minutes in the fourth quarter as the US crushed the John Calipari-coached Dominican Republic team by a score of 113-59. Davis probably won't see a whole lot of playing time in the Olympics unless all the games are blowouts (which could be a possibility) but it should still be a valuable learning experience for the Hornets rookie.
Description: Now that Jarrett Jack has been dealt to Golden State, the Hornets will likely start Greivis Vasquez at point guard.
Insight: That is, unless New Orleans acquires another point guard. However, Vasquez proved to be very capable as a fill-in starter last season, averaging 12 ppg and 7.0 apg in 26 starts.
Description: According to ESPN's Ric Bucher, New Orleans will match shooting guard Eric Gordon's offer from the Suns.
Insight: Gordon expressed his desire in going to Phoenix but New Orleans wasn't about to let its top acquisition from the Chris Paul trade get away for nothing. Gordon is a supremely talented offensive player but he has had trouble staying on the court in his career.
Description: According to ESPN.com, the Hornets will trade forward Ryan Anderson to the New Orleans Hornets. Anderson will sign a four-year deal with between $34-36 million.
Insight: Anderson showed what he could do playing alongside an elite center last season, as he averaged 16.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in 61 games. Anderson made 166 threes last season with Dwight Howard drawing defenders to the paint. The forward will now get to play with No. 1 overall pick Anthony Davis.
Description: Restricted free agent Eric Gordon and the Phoenix Suns have apparently agreed to terms on a deal, but the New Orleans Hornets have the right to match.
Insight: When healthy, Gordon can be a dynamic offensive weapon and he's averaged more than 20 ppg the past two seasons. The problem is whether he'll ever be healthy. He played just nine games last season and less than 63 in each of the previous two years primarily due to knee problems. His fantasy value is probably higher in New Orleans.
Description: Hornets forward and No. 1 overall draft pick Anthony Davis has suffered a sprained ankle and is doubtful to play for Team USA in the upcoming London Olympics.
Insight: This probably won't affect Davis' status with New Orleans as he'll have plenty of time to recover before the regular seasons starts. Davis was considered a longshot to make the Olympic team anyway.

Insight: The Suns have already said that they will make an offer to Gordon and the Hornets remain interested as well. Gordon's 2011-12 campaign was derailed by injuries but when he was on the court his stats (20.6 ppg, 3.4 apg) were similar to the ones he posted while he was with the Clippers in 2010-11 (22.3 ppg, 4.4 apg). Gordon should be a threat to score 20-plus ppg for whoever he plays for next season.

Insight: Gordon, along with Deron Williams, Steve Nash and Ray Allen are thought to be among the most sought-after free agents in basketball this offseason. Certainly the Hornets will try everything in their power to retain their young star but if the Suns offer him the most money, Gordon (20.6 ppg, 3.4 apg last season) could very well be playing in Phoenix in 2012-13.
Description: Austin Rivers was selected by the Hornets as the 10th overall pick in Thursday night's NBA Draft.
Insight: Rivers had an up and down season as a freshman at Duke last year (15.4 ppg) but when he's on his game, Rivers can be an elite scorer with great range and incredible quickness. He'll join a New Orleans backcourt that already includes Greivis Vasquez, Jarret Jack and Eric Gordon.
Description: Kentucky center Anthony Davis has been selected No. 1 overall by the New Orleans Hornets in the 2012 NBA Draft.
Insight: No surprise there. The NBA has such a dearth of quality shot-blockers that Davis immediately becomes an early-round fantasy selection as a rookie. He needs to develop his offensive game more, but he does have a foundation there as he was a shooting guard in high school before a growth spurt forced a position change. Davis effectively has a chance to replicate Serge Ibaka's block totals (3.7 bpg) from last season while contributing more points and rebounds than Ibaka did in 2011-12.
