Bergevin, Murray, Shero named GM award finalists
New York, NY (Sports Network) - Montreal's Marc Bergevin, Bob Murray of Anaheim and Pittsburgh's Ray Shero have been named the finalists for the NHL's General Manager of the Year award.
Bergevin, in his first season as an NHL general manager, helped the Canadiens to the biggest turnaround in the league. Montreal was 15th in the Eastern Conference last season and finished second with a Northeast Division title in the shortened 2013 season.
Murray's Ducks had nearly the same scenario in the Western Conference. Anaheim was 13th in the West last season and finished second this year with a Pacific Division title.
Both the Canadiens and Ducks were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
Shero made some of the biggest deals during the season that helped the Penguins to the top seed in the Eastern Conference. He acquired Jarome Iginla from Calgary, Brenden Morrow from Dallas and Jussi Jokinen from Carolina in deals leading up to the trade deadline.
The winner will be announced during the Stanley Cup Finals.
