NBA Game Summary - Orlando at Dallas
(Monday, January 13th)
Final Score: Dallas 107, Orlando 88
Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Monta Ellis led six Mavericks players in double figures with 21 points as Dallas sent the Orlando Magic to an eighth straight loss in a 107-88 blowout on Monday.
Vince Carter totaled 17 points, Dirk Nowitzki added 15 and Jose Calderon had 13 for the Mavs, who were coming off a home-and-home sweep of the Pelicans over the weekend.
Jae Crowder and Wayne Ellington each made two of Dallas' 13 3-pointers and contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively, in the rout.
All five Orlando starters scored in double digits, led by Jameer Nelson's 21- point, seven-assist effort, but Orlando stayed winless since New Year's Day.
Dallas dominated the first half, leading by as many as 22 late in the second quarter and taking a 59-41 cushion into the break.
Ellis, Nowitzki and Carter combined for 34 points and the team shot 53.7 percent as a whole in jumping out to the huge lead.
Orlando scored on eight consecutive possessions early in the third to pull within 63-57, and Magic head coach Jacque Vaughn was encouraged.
"It was a good response from the group after halftime," said Vaughn. "It was good execution, good looks, but overall great response from our guys."
The Mavs, however, answered with the next 12 points to regain some breathing room.
After Mo Harkless' 3-pointer ended the Magic's drought, Carter, Ellington and Nowitzki all hit from behind the arc in the final 2:03 to send the Mavs into the fourth with a comfortable 84-66 advantage.
The closest the Magic got was nine midway through the final stanza, as Carter hit a pair of jumpers to start a 9-0 run that pushed Dallas' lead back to an insurmountable 100-82 with 3:35 remaining.
"They made a couple of runs at us. We did a good job of getting the lead back up in the game," Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle said.
Nowitzki's 3-pointer at the end of the third quarter was the 1,400th of his career ... Mavs forward Shawn Marion missed his fourth straight game with a shoulder issue ... Glen Davis recorded 19 points and eight rebounds for the Magic, who shot just 7-of-24 from behind the arc ... The Mavs have won five straight against the Magic.
