Final Score: Chicago 92, Brooklyn 90
Brooklyn, NY (Sports Network) - Nate Robinson netted the go-ahead bucket with 22.7 seconds remaining to lift the Chicago Bulls to a 92-90 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday.
Carlos Boozer had a team-high 29 points and 18 rebounds for the Bulls, who were coming off a 90-86 loss in Washington on Tuesday. Luol Deng added 18 points and Jimmy Butler had 16 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.
With the win, Chicago moved within 1 1/2 games of Brooklyn for the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference standings. Both the Bulls and Nets have already clinched playoff berths.
Deron Williams had a game-high 30 points and 10 assists for the Nets, who finished an eight-game road trip with a 113-95 win in Cleveland on Wednesday. Joe Johnson tallied 12 points.
Brook Lopez finished with 28 points for Brooklyn, but missed a potential game-tying jumper with one second remaining.
"I contributed a lot to how the final score ended up, and that's definitely not something I'm happy with or proud of," Lopez said.
At halftime, the Nets had a 47-36 advantage. However, the Bulls slowly made their comeback in the third quarter.
While they did not attempt a single free throw, the Bulls were more efficient on the floor during the period, shooting 50 percent compared to the Nets' 31.3 percent.
Butler drilled a 3-pointer with three seconds remaining in the frame to tie the game at 65-65, but Williams made two free throws with 0.3 seconds left to give the Nets a two-point lead entering the fourth quarter.
However, that lead didn't last long, as layups by Boozer and Deng gave Chicago the lead back at 69-67.
Brooklyn remained close behind for the rest of the period until a 3-point play by Williams with 1:54 to play gave the Nets an 85-84 edge.
Boozer made a 17-footer just twenty seconds later, but the Nets retook the lead after a trey by Johnson.
After a free throw by Boozer, Williams made a jump shot and the Nets led by three, 90-87, with 52.9 seconds left.
With 44.7 seconds remaining in regulation, Deng sank a jumper which was later followed by Robinson's game-winner.
Lopez attempted to tie the game with one second left but missed, and Chicago's Daequan Cook grabbed the defensive rebound to end the game.
"We got the plays we needed to get to win the game," Boozer said.
The Bulls struggled in the first quarter, scoring just 13 points on 26.3 percent shooting, but improved by scoring 23 points in the second.
Robinson finished with 12 points ... Lopez scored 18 points in the first quarter ... Brooklyn's Reggie Evans scored zero points, but had 13 rebounds ... The Bulls missed all five of their 3-point attempts in the first half ... Chicago wins the season series, 3-1. The Bulls have won the series against the Nets for the third straight season.
