Braves bring in veteran P Harang

Lake Buena Vista, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Atlanta Braves agreed to terms with veteran pitcher Aaron Harang on a one-year contract Monday.

Harang went 5-12 with a 5.40 earned run average over 26 starts between the Seattle Mariners and New York Mets last season.

He began spring training with Cleveland and went 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA in four games, including two starts, but asked for and was granted his unconditional release after being informed by the Indians on Sunday that he would not be on the club's Opening Day roster.

The 35-year-old right-hander owns a career 110-116 record with a 4.28 ERA in 325 games, including 319 starts, over 12 seasons with the Athletics, Reds, Padres, Dodgers, Mariners and Mets.

Earlier Monday, the Braves released Freddy Garcia after the veteran pitcher failed to make the Opening Day roster in spring training.

Garcia, who posted a 1.65 ERA in six late-season appearances with the Braves in 2013 and started Atlanta's Game 4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series, went 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA in five starts this spring.

The right-hander's release was one of six roster moves made the Braves Monday. The team also optioned pitcher Ryan Buchter and outfielders Jose Constanza and Joey Terdoslavich to Triple-A Gwinnett and reassigned infielders Tyler Greene and Tommy La Stella to minor league camp.
