Ryan Zimmerman is the kind of value that you are always looking for on Draft Day. While many of your fellow fantasy owners were choosing "name" players to man the third base bag, if you waited and selected Zimmerman in the seventh round, you are smiling right now.
While other owners were bidding high to get David Wright (ADP 3), Evan Longoria (ADP 17), Alex Rodriguez (ADP 24), Aramis Ramirez (ADP 28) and Chipper Jones (ADP 65), Zimmerman at an ADP of 69 has been performing as well as any of them.
Through Tuesday night, Zimmerman has a 17-game hitting streak, is batting .293 with four HRs, 13 RBIs, 13 runs scored and an OPS of .880. On Monday night he hit two homers in Philadelphia (doesn't everyone?) and doubled high off the wall in last night's contest.
Despite playing on a team struggling to win and to score runs, Zimmerman figures to be a solid contributor all season long and should be a 25-30 HR, 100 RBI guy.
So while it is true that he is "owned" in almost 90% of fantasy leagues, his owner might not have recognized his value because he does it in the relative obscurity of Nationals baseball. The team certainly don't get the publicity of some of their neighbors in the northeast. He could be available for trade at a reasonable price.
