Description: Jets left wing Evander Kane returned for Monday's game against Columbus.
Insight: He had missed the previous six games with a lower body injury. Kane has been great at home this season (five goals, six assists) but hasn't been able to produce much outside of Winnipeg (just two goals, one assist).
Description: Vancouver winger Chris Higgins is on a five game points streak.
Insight: He's scored three goals and added four helpers during the streak. Higgins has been skating with Ryan Kesler on the second line and has fantasy value as long as he stays there or moves up to play with the Sedins. The Canucks have won all seven games this month, so don't look for them to change anything.
Description: Boston winger Reilly Smith had two goals Saturday at Vancouver.
Insight: That gives the 22-year-old four goals and six points over ihs last five games. Loui Eriksson was the big piece of the Tyler Seguin trade with Dallas, but Smith is third on the Bruins with 23 points while Eriksson has been limited to 24 games and 14 points by multiple concussions.
Description: Dallas left wing Jamie Benn scored a goal Saturday for the first time since Nov. 14.
Insight: Benn had a goal and five assists on Nov. 14 but had produced just four points over his last 11 games before potting two goals Saturday. His drought hasn't been due to a lack of shots; he's averaged 4.89 SOG per game over his last nine.
Description: Boston left wing Shawn Thornton has been given a 15-game suspension for attacking Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik in a game last week. SOURCE: Darren Dreger, TSN
Insight: Thornton knocked Orpik unconscious and also gave him a concussion. Thornton has already begun serving the ban and will be eligible to return in mid-January. He hasn't been a factor in fantasy this season anyway (three goals in 27 games).
Description: Boston winger Daniel Paille is out for Thursday's game against Edmonton due to an upper body injury.
Insight: Paille was sent back to Boston to be checked out further. He isn't much of a fantasy value as he hasn't cracked the 16-point mark over the past two seasons. He's got three goals and two assists in 30 games this season.
Description: Blues left wing Alex Steen missed the team's morning skate with an illness but he's feeling better and is officially active for Saturday's game versus Anaheim. SOURCE: Lou Korac, NHL.com
Insight: That's about all you need to know. Steen (20 goals, 12 assists) is having a career-year and needs to be started in all formats. Steen's presence is also good news for owners of T.J. Oshie and David Backes.
Description: Penguins winger Pascal Dupuis (undisclosed) was on the ice for Saturday's morning skate, according to Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Insight: That would seem to indicate he'll be available Saturday night at Boston. Coach Dan Bylsma said Dupuis will have a major input on whether he plays because he has had a similar injury in the past. We doubt the veteran will choose to sit out after being able to skate in the morning.
Description: St. Louis left wing Alex Steen (illness) will be a game-time decision Saturday against the Ducks, according to Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: Steen finally seems to be slowing down after his scorching start to the season. He has three goals and three assists over his last nine games after putting up 17 goals and nine assists over his first 18 games.
Description: Rangers left winger Mats Zuccarello has three goals and eight points over his last seven games, including two (1 G, 1 A) Thursday at Buffalo.
Insight: Zuccarello had a similar stretch from Oct. 26 to Nov. 12, scoring two goals with 10 points in 10 games, but he followed that with a four-game drought in the middle of last month. We'll see if he can maintain some consistency this time around.
Description: Pittsburgh left wing Chris Kunitz scored two goals Thursday against the Sharks in a matchup of two of the top teams in the NHL.
Insight: Kunitz has posted at least one point in six straight games and 14 points over his last 11 games. He has 16 goals, 30 points, 93 SOG, 20 PIM and a +13 in 30 games this season, which puts him on pace for a career-high 44 goals and 82 points.
Description: David Perron scored both Edmonton goals Tuesday in a 6-2 loss to Phoenix.
Insight: Perron's first season in Edmonton has been a success. In 25 games, he's already generated 22 points in a little over 19 and a half minutes per game. As long as he stays healthy, Perron should continue to be a productive fantasy player.
Description: Canes left wing Jeff Skinner made his presence felt with a solid night Tuesday versus Washington.
Insight: He was involved in three of the four goals Carolina scored (two goals, one assist) on Tuesday. Skinner has followed up a five-game scoring drought by netting goals in two of his last three contests.
