Description: Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins must not get along with quarterback Case Keenum.
Insight: We kid, but it doesn seem a little weird that with Keenum under center, Andre Johnson has reassumed WR1 duties in Houston. Hopkins caught just two passes for five yards versus the Jaguars. After the 238 yard and two-touchdown day versus the Titans in Week 13, Hopkins had just 16 catches, 169 yards and no touchdowns over the final four games.
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson looked like a WR1 again in Week 17.
Insight: Johnson caught 10 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown versus the Jaguars. This can be viewed as a last horray for Johnson who mostly past the No. 1 wide out torch to DeAndre Hopkins, but Johnson can still be productive if drafted at the right time. Johnson had 85 catches for 936 yards and three touchdowns in 2014.
Description: After not winning a game last season, Texans quarterback Case Keenum went 2-0 in 2014.
Insight: Keenum went 25-for-35 for 250 yards, two touchdowns and an interception versus the Jaguars. The interception was almost costly as it was returned for a touchdown, but Houston still won, 23-17. Keenum could possibly in play in training camp for Houston next season.
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster left Sunday's game towards the end of the first quarter with a hamstring injury.
Insight: Foster missed the final series of the quarter as he went to the locker room. Alfred Blue and Jonathan Grimes will share the backfield duties while Foster is out. Blue already scored a rushing touchdown in the second quarter.
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (concussion) is probable for Sunday's contest against Baltimore.
Insight: After missing Week 15, Johnson will be back in action for Week 16. DeAndre Hopkins looks iffy at best, but with Case Keenum or Thad Lewis starting at quarterback, Johnson is no more than a WR3.
Description: Texans running back Alfred Blue had eight carries for 26 yards versus the Colts.
Insight: After Ryan Fitzpatrick left the game, Houston ran the ball a lot. With backup quarterback Tom Savage also hurt, there is a big question mark at quarterback, which means even with Arian Foster healthy, Blue could get more work.
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster just missed the 100-yard rushing bonus versus the Colts.
Insight: Foster had 99 rushing yards on 26 carries. He had plenty of opportunities with starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick leaving the game with a leg injury. Foster is still a RB1 no matter who plays quarterback for Houston.
Description: Texas rookie quarterback Tom Savage was 10-of-19 with his interception after he replaced Ryan Fitzpatrick on Sunday.
Insight: Savage handed the ball off a lot, which was also an issue and one handoff led to a fumble. Savage isn't exactly fantasy relevant, and he is also undergoing an MRI on his knee. It was a tough day at the office for Texans quarterbacks.
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (concussion) is being listed as questionable for Week 15.
Insight: He still has not been medically cleared, leaving Johnson on the wrong side of the questionable tag. We would be surprised if he suits up, meaning DeAndre Hopkins could see even more targets than usual.
Description: Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney (knee) will miss the next nine months after undergoing microfracture surgery.
Insight: It was on his right knee, and this is not good news, as this surgery is one of the toughest to go through as an athlete. There will be a good chance Clowney starts next season on the PUP list.
Description: Texans defensive end J.J. Watt did everything again in Week 13.
Insight: Watt had three tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and caught another touchdown pass on offense. He is the first defensive lineman since 1944 to score five touchdowns in a season.
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson turned in a solid fantasy day.
Insight: Johnson really only had a decent statistical day because Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 358 yards and six touchdowns. Johnson caught seven passes for 53 yards and a touchdown. He had more targets than DeAndre Hopkins, but Hopkins is the better fantasy option.
Description: Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins set a career high with 238 receiving yards in Week 14.
Insight: Hopkins reached the career high on nine catches, two of which went for touchdowns. He actually caught all nine of his targets. Those owners thinking Hopkins would see a reduction in value because of the return of Ryan Fitzpatrick were very wrong.
Description: Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw a career-high six touchdown passes against the Titans on Sunday.
Insight: Fitzpatrick really aired it out in his return to the starting role in Houston. He completed 24-of-33 passes for 358 yards. Too bad Fitzpatrick doesn't play the Titans again this season, but he does have two more matchups with Jacksonville.
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster may be a game-time decision, but according to the Houston Chronicle's John McClain, he'd be surprised if Foster plays in Week 12.
Insight: McClain is usually pretty good an analyzing the situation in Houston so fantasy owners better have an alternate plan in place. Foster is a RB1 if he plays, and Alfred Blue, his backup, is a decent RB2.
Description: Texans coach Bill O'Brien is calling Arian Foster a game-time decision according to the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: O'Brien said the same thing last week, and Foster came no where close to playing. His chances seem better for Week 12, but keep Alfred Blue stashed just in case. Foster is a RB1 if he plays, and Blue is a decent RB2.
Description: Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett played very well in his first NFL start.
Insight: Mallett was not afraid to throw the ball downfield, which was likely why coach Bill O'Brien made a change under center because Ryan Fitzpatrick did not or was not able to take deep shots. Mallett was 20-for-30 with 211 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster (groin) won't play, according to Jayson Braddock of 790 Houston.
Insight: While he looked likely to play early in the week, that optimism has dipped over the last day or so. Still, we have no official word on the subject other than he'll be a "game-time" decision. Alfred Blue needs to be owned in all leagues, as he will have RB2 potential, if Foster sits.
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster (groin) will be a game-time decision for Week 11 against Cleveland, according to coach Bill O'Brien.
Insight: While he looked likely to play early in the week, that optimism has dipped over the last day or so. Alfred Blue needs to be owned in all leagues, as he will have RB2 potential, if Foster sits.
Description: Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett was named the starter for Week 11 against the Browns.
Insight: Houston is on a bye this week, but once they come out out of it, Mallett will be under center. Coach Bill O'Brien praised his grasp of the offense, and now Mallett will have a nice opportunity to produce on a solid football team.
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster has an injured groin, but the only information we have been given is "day-to-day" by Texans coach Bill O'Brien.
Insight: Foster went down without help from a defender and injured his groin. At least it wasn't a re-aggravation of the hamstring injuries, Houston has a bye week so Foster has two weeks to get healthy.
Description: Texans receiver Alfred Blue will be one of the top waiver wire pickups this week.
Insight: That won't be because of his production, but because of Arian Foster's injury. Blue rushed for 13 yards on seven carries after Foster left Sunday's game against the Eagles with an injury. We do not yet know how serious Foster's injury is.
Description: Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for two touchdowns and an interception against the Eagles.
Insight: Fitzpatrick was 13-for-27 with 203 yards, but sacks continued to plague the Texans offense. Fitzpatrick took four sacks and without Arian Foster for most of the second half, Houston could not muster enough offense to stick with the Eagles.
Description: Texans inside linebacker Brian Cushing (knee) is expected to play Sunday against the Eagles.
Insight: He practiced on Friday for the first time since Week 7, and while he is listed as questionable, it looks like Cushing will be on the field. He has 50 tackles and one sack this season, and will continue to anchor the linebacking core.
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster had another big game, Sunday against the Titans.
Insight: He rushed for 151 yards, his fourth-consecutive 100-yard rushing game, and had two touchdowns on the ground as well. Foster also chipped in with four catches for 22 yards, and additional score. He is one of the best halfbacks in football right now.
Description: Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney is likely to play against the Titans on Sunday according to the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Clowney has not played since Week 1 due to a knee injury. If he plays, Bill O'Brien will keep Clowney on what he called a "pitch count". The Texans defense is a great start against the Titans, who will be starting rookie third-string quarterback Zach Mettenberger.
Description: Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney (knee) has his knee is still sore, but he can push through it, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Clowney was close to returning in Week 7 and listed as questionable for Week 8, but it sounds like he's ready to give it a try. The addition of Clowney to the Texans defense would make them a top Week 8 choice against a suspect Tennessee offense.
Description: Texans TE Garrett Graham was held without a catch in Houston's Week 6 loss to the Colts as he continues his slid from fantasy-worthy status.
Insight: Graham caught 49 balls for 545 yards and five touchdowns while sharing time with Owen Daniels last season and some thought he could blossom with Daniels in Baltimore. That hasn't happened and we aren't expecting much from him on Monday night against the Steelers.
Description: Former Eagles and now Texans wide receiver and kick returner Damaris Johnson saw a season-high three catches for 62 yards against Indianapolis and might see action with the offense again Monday night.
Insight: He's a solid return man and if you can get him in open space he's tough to pull down. He might be useful for the Texans in three-receiver packages, but fantasy owners in non-return leagues should steer clear.
Description: Texans coach Bill O'Brien said there is a 50/50 chance outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney returns to the field for the Monday night game against the Steelers.
Insight: Clowney has not played since suffering a torn meniscus in Week 1. J.J. Watt has been carrying the Texans defense, and he should be even more effective should Houston get back its second-best pash rusher.
Description: Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick went 15-of-23 for 212 yards and a touchdown against the Colts on Thursday night.
Insight: Fitzpatrick did not throw an interception but was sacked five times as Houston really struggled to move the ball in the first quarter. The Texans made the contest a game, but ultimately, fell short.
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster rushed for 157 yards on 23 carries and gained 15 receiving yards against the Cowboys on Sunday.
Insight: Foster also scored two touchdowns to cap off a huge fantasy day. Foster has gone over 100 yards and 22 carries in three of the four games he has been dressed. When healthy, it is hard to find a back better than Foster.
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster played, but was rather ineffective.
Insight: He did nothing on the ground, carrying the ball eight times for only six yards. Foster did add seven receptions for 55 yards though. If he is able to stay on the field, Foster should still be considered a RB1 moving forward.
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster will likely be a game-time decision for Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills according to CSN Houston.
Insight: The good news is Houston plays at 1 pm ET, so we will know his status by noon on Sunday. Personally, we don't expect him to play and The Sports Network running back rankings for Week 4 reflect that. Alfred Blue will be the starter if Foster cannot go.
Description: Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins caught six passes for 116 yards against the Giants in Week 3.
Insight: Hopkins led the Texans receivers with receptions and receiving yards. Andre Johnson still led the team with 11 targets, but Johnson caught just four passes for 24 yards. Hopkins had nine targets.
Description: Texans rookie Alfred Blue is expected to start on Sunday against the Giants.
Insight: Foster will miss the game due to a hamstring injury. Blue rushed for 40 yards on 11 carries against the Raiders in Week 2. It appears that Blue has moved ahead of Joanthan Grimes, who rushed for nine yards on three carries in Week 2, on the depth chart.
Description: Houston receiver DeAndre Hopkins, scored in Week 2 from 12 yards out, but is still the second option behind aging Andre Johnson.
Insight: Hopkins has shown us flashes of talent, but has been targeted 10 times over two games this season to 16 for Johnson. That as much as the quarterback situation is going to limit Hopkins' upside.
Description: Bad news for Texans running back Arian Foster's fantasy owners as coach Bill O'Brien said he needed to do a better job spreading the workload, according to Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: He carried the Texans' offense in Week 2 rushing 28 times for 138 yards and a score and could have posted more if the Texans hadn't called off the dogs. He's totaled 55 rushing attempts over the first two weeks which extrapolates to 440 rushing attempts over a 16-game schedule and the injury-prone back has zero chance of surviving that.
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster said the heavy workload will continue in Week 2.
Insight: Foster led the league with 27 rushing attempts in Week 1 and also had two catches. New head coach Bill O'Brien has made it clear that he will use Foster as a work-horse back. With the Texans visiting Oakland this week, Foster may lead the league in carries again for Week 2.
Description: Texans linebacker Jadeveon Clowney is out 4-6 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his knee.
Insight: This loss is huge for the Texan defense, which held Washington to six points in Week 1. The defense is built on pass rush with Clowney and J.J. Watt. For fantasy, Houston's defense takes a huge hit without Clowney.
Description: Texans TE Garrett Graham (back) is inactive for Week 1.
Insight: Graham has always been a sneaky option while sharing the position with Owens Daniels. Daniels is gone and Graham could have fantasy value if he can get healthy. Rookie C.J. Fiedorowicz should see most of the tight end targets in Week 1.
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (hamstring) has shown no signs of rust so far, according to cbssports.com.
Insight: Johnson sat out OTAs and minicamp because he wanted to be traded and he missed the early portion of training camp with a hamstring injury. We have confidence in his ability to build a rapport with new QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and learn Bill O'Brien's offensive scheme quickly. He had 109 catches, 1,407 yards and five touchdowns on 181 targets last season despite having to catch passes from Matt Schaub and Case Keenum.
Description: Houston running back Jonathan Grimes put forth a solid argument for his being the No. 2 back with 42 yards rushing on nine carries, three catches for 25 yards and a special teams touchdown.
Insight: The winner of the battle for a backup spot to Arian Foster is a "must-handcuff" as Foster, who is already dealing with a hamstring injury, has missed 11 games over the past three years.
Description: According to Dave Zangaro of csnhouston.com, Texans running back Arian Foster (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday.
Insight: Foster didn't participate in the entire session, as the team is likely trying to manage his reps to make sure he gets to the regular season 100 percent healthy. The running back will likely finish in the top three in the NFL in touches if he stays on the field.
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday, according to Dave Zangaro of csnhouston.com. He's questionable for the team's second preseason contest.
Insight: Johnson pulled his right hamstring at the end of July and missed the first preseason game. The 33-year-old has played 16 games in back-to-back seasons after sitting out 12 across 2010 and 2011. It's good to see him back on the field so he can build a rapport with Ryan Fitzpatrick and become more familiar with Bill O'Brien's offensive system after he skipped OTAs and minicamp.
Description: The Houston Chronicle reported Monday afternoon that Jonathan Grimes was now the frontrunner for the Texans' backup running back job and just a few hours later the team released Andre Brown and Dennis Johnson.
Insight: It was assumed Brown would get the job as Ben Tate's replacement due to his past experience as New York's starter, but he didn't play in the preseason opener and was cut two days later. Grimes is the necessary handcuff to Arian Foster, who is dealing with a hamstring injury already and missed 11 games the past three years.
Description: The Texans have released running back Andre Brown, according to Pro Football Talk.
Insight: Brown didn't see a snap in the preseason opener, which coach Bill O'Brien said was because there wasn't enough time (the Texans had just 41 plays and lost 32-0 to the Cardinals), and Houston handed him a pink slip a couple days later. When he signed a one-year, $645,000 contract with the Texans in the offseason, it was believed he would be replacing Ben Tate as Arian Foster's backup, but that job will go to Jonathan Grimes. Dennis Johnson was also cut Monday.
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (hamstring) could be back in the team's second preseason game, according to houstontexans.com.
Insight: Johnson pulled his right hamstring at the end of July and hasn't practiced. The 33-year-old has played 16 games in back-to-back seasons after sitting out 12 across 2010 and 2011. We'd like him to get back on the field so he can build a rapport with Ryan Fitzpatrick and become more familiar with Bill O'Brien's offensive system after he skipped OTAs and minicamp.
Description: According to houstontexans.com, Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Arian Foster is close to returning from a hamstring injury.
Insight: Foster has missed most of camp with a hamstring injury, but O'Brien said the running back has a chance to play in the team's second preseason game. We'll see if he returns to practice this week. Foster remains a high-risk, high-reward first-round fantasy pick.
Description: According to Tania Ganguli of ESPN.com, Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Andre Brown didn't play in the first preseason game because the team ran so few offensive plays.
Insight: The Texans had just 41 plays and lost 32-0 to the Cardinals. O'Brien said the plan was to play Jonathan Grimes, Alfred Blue and Dennis Johnson, in that order. It's unclear if Brown is behind them on the depth chart or if the Texans already know what they have in him and wanted to see the other backs. With injury-prone Arian Foster on top of the depth chart, we'll continue to monitor the situation to see who emerges as the necessary handcuff.
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster continues to miss training camp due to a hamstring injury and Sunday was the fourth straight day of missing practice.
Insight: This doesn't appear to be a serious injury, but with Foster you always have to worry. He has top-five ability if healthy for a full season, but he missed eight games last season and three in 2011.
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster has a hamstring injury, according to a Houston Chronicle report.
Insight: This doesn't appear to be a serious injury, but with Foster you always have to worry. He has top-five ability if healthy for a full season, but he missed eight games last season and three in 2011.
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson wants out of Houston, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Insight: Johnson (109 catches, 1,407 yards, five touchdowns in 2013) posted another good season despite the obvious problems the team had at quarterback last season and at 33-years-old apparently doesn't want to go through a rebuilding period.
Description: When asked if he'll be at training camp, Texans receiver Andre Johnson told Marcus Smith of NFL Network "hopefully" and added "we'll see what happens."
Insight: Johnson (109 catches, 1,407 yards, five touchdowns in 2013) expressed his desire to be traded because he doesn't want to go through another rebuild with the Texans. He'll likely be with Houston when the season starts and is a bargain at his ADP of 46.6 (fantasyfootballcalculator.com).
Description: The Texans have released quarterback T.J. Yates. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL.com
Insight: Prior to getting cut, Yates had fallen to fourth on the team's QB depth chart behind Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tom Savage and Case Keenum. Yates should find a backup job somewhere but he won't have fantasy value.
Description: Houston QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was named the starter by coach Bill O'Brien.
Insight: Considering O'Brien's other options, this isn't much of an announcement. It's also the reason star wideout Andre Johnson isn't happy. We're expecting a huge workload for running back Arian Foster.
Description: The Texans have signed No. 1 draft pick Jadeveon Clowney to a four-year, $22.3 million contract.
Insight: Clowney was a defensive end in college but he'll switch to linebacker to accomodate defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel's new scheme. Clowney and 2012 Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt will give opposing QBs all they can handle next season.
Description: The Texans would like to use Arian Foster more in the passing game next season. SOURCE: MyFoxHouston.com
Insight: Foster has good hands for a halfback, averaging 405.3 receiving yards per season since 2010. Opting for shorter passes could also improve Ryan Fitzpatrick's completion percentage. It's a win/win for everyone.
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson is expected to skip the team's upcoming mandatory minicamp. SOURCE: NFL.com
Insight: It's pretty clear Johnson wants out of Houston. But unfortunately, it's not up to him. The star wideout is under contract until 2017 and the team has no obligation to trade him. Unless another team is willing to take on most of Johnson's remaining $29 million salary, he's unlikely to be dealt.
Description: Houston used its No. 1 pick on South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.
Insight: It was an easy pick. Clowney was clearly the best player in the draft and he should have a chance to make an impact right away. The last time a defensive player was taken No. 1 overall was back in 2006 when the Texans took NC State defensive end Mario Williams.
Description: Arian Foster tweeted that he's been medically cleared. The Texans halfback underwent back surgery in November.
Insight: Foster ran for 4.5 yards per carry last season which is consistent with his career average. With Houston likely to use a rookie quarterback in 2014, Foster is going to see a ton of work next season. He should be a first-round pick in most fantasy drafts this summer.
Description: The Raiders have their eye on Texans QB Matt Schaub. SOURCE: Jerry McDonald, Oakland Tribune
Insight: Schaub imploded last season and with the Texans likely to draft a quarterback with the first pick, he shouldn't be in Houston for much longer. Schaub's best season came in 2009 when he led the league with 4,770 passing yards. That was also the year he made his only Pro Bowl appearance.
Description: Houston has released tight end Owen Daniels. SOURCE: John McClain, Houston Chronicle
Insight: Daniels only saw the field five times last season, logging 24 catches for 252 receiving yards and three touchdowns. If he can stay healthy, Daniels should be a strong bounceback candidate for 2014. Of course, a lot of that depends on what team he ends up signing with.
Description: Houston running back Arian Foster (season-ending back surgery on November 15th) is progressing on schedule, according to GM Rick Smith.
Insight: Foster should be ready for training camp, but his inability to stay healthy has to concern fantasy owners and the Texans. Ben Tate is likely to leave in free agency so expect Houston to draft a running back not long after selecting a quarterback of the future.
