Minnesota Vikings Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Cordarrelle Patterson, WR7/23/2014 10:20:00 PM
Description: Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said receiver Cordarrelle Patterson will continue to return kicks this season even though he's expected to have an expanded role on offense, according to the Star Tribune.
Insight: Patterson picked up 1,393 yards and two touchdowns on 43 kick returns last season in addition to putting up 627 yards and seven touchdowns from scrimmage. His ADP continues to rise and is up to 41.4, 15th among receivers, in fantasyfootballcalculator.com mock drafts, so he's turning into a high-risk, high-reward player.
Matt Cassel, QB7/21/2014 4:18:00 PM
Description: Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel is expected to be the starter for Game 1, according to former Vikings beat reporter and USA Today's Tom Pelissero.
Insight: Whether he keeps the job all season is another story, but the veteran should get the nod early on.
Cordarrelle Patterson, WR7/4/2014 2:25:00 PM
Description: Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson has dramatically improved his route running and defense recognition, according to quarterback Matt Cassel.
Insight: Patterson should be the star of the passing game and may not need gadget plays to get the ball. The multi-talented Patterson had three rushing touchdowns, two kick return scores and four TD receptions last year, but may be able to produce from a standard playbook in 2014.
Cordarrelle Patterson, WR6/23/2014 1:42:00 PM
Description: Vikings veteran wideout Greg Jennings said it will be young receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, not Jennings, that will be the focal point of the passing game in 2014.
Insight: The multi-talented Patterson had three rushing touchdowns, two kick return scores and four TD receptions last year. When he develops his receiving skills, he's going to be a top-five fantasy wide receiver. That could be sooner rather than later if Minnesota can fix their quarterback situation.
Teddy Bridgewater, QB5/11/2014 6:05:00 PM
Description: Vikings coach Mike Zimmer told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that he "hopes" Teddy Bridgewater will emerge as the team's starting quarterback next season.
Insight: Minnesota's other option at QB is the eternally mediocre Matt Cassel so it shouldn't be much of a contest. Expect Bridgewater, the 2012 Big East Offensive Player of the Year, to be the Vikings' Week 1 starter.
Teddy Bridgewater, QB5/9/2014 10:37:00 AM
Description: Minnesota closed out the first round by taking Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater with the 32nd pick. SOURCE: Tom Pelissero, USA Today
Insight: Bridgewater comes with plenty of question marks; he was diagnosed with an abnormal heartbeat at his pre-draft physical and he didn't have a very good pro day. But with the last pick of the first round, the reward outweighed the risk for Minnesota, a team that desperately needed a playmaker on offense. Bridgewater may be a work in progress but he's also an intriguing fantasy possibility.
Jared Allen, DE3/20/2014 5:22:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Ed Werder, All-Pro defensive end Jared Allen is finalizing a deal with Seattle.
Insight: The 31-year-old has recorded 11 or more sacks in each of his last seven seasons. The Seahawks were tied for eighth in the league in sacks in 2013 and should be even better this year with Allen anchoring the pass rush.
Jared Allen, DE3/12/2014 2:15:00 PM
Description: Defensive end Jared Allen said he'll retire if teams don't meet his salary demands this offseason. SOURCE: NFL.com
Insight: Well, that seems a bit dramatic. Allen, who turns 32 in April, is still a big time contributor and nowhere close to the end of his career. It may not be today or even tomorrow, but we think Allen will eventually get the contract that he's looking for.
Matt Cassel, QB3/7/2014 8:12:00 PM
Description: The Vikings have agreed to re-sign quarterback Matt Cassel.
Insight: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says it's a two-year, $10 million deal. Cassel's return will squash any rumors about a Mike Vick signing. Cassel's 60.2 completion percentage this season was his highest since 2008. That was the season Cassel started in place of Tom Brady (torn ACL).
John Carlson, TE3/5/2014 8:13:00 PM
Description: Minnesota released tight end John Carlson on Tuesday.
Insight: Carlson saw some action while Kyle Rudolph was hurt last season but that only lasted until he got injured himself (concussion in Week 14). Carlson will be 30 in May and it's fair to wonder how much he has left in the tank.
Adrian Peterson, RB2/21/2014 4:13:00 PM
Description: Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson (groin surgery) is on track to be ready for April OTAs.
Insight: Peterson followed up his MVP 2012 campaign with a still respectable though not up to expectation 1,266 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in 2013. If the Vikings can find a passing offense to balance it out, he should be good for a few more years.
Matt Cassel, QB2/5/2014 9:49:00 PM
Description: Quarterback Matt Cassel is opting for free agency. SOURCE: ESPN 1500 Twin Cities
Insight: He has until Friday to opt out of his contract with Minnesota and apparently that's exactly what Cassel plans on doing. Cassel probably would have started for the Vikings next season had he decided to stay. Of course, that's still an option for Cassel if the two sides are willing to work something out. The Browns, Texans and Jaguars are all expected to have openings at quarterback though all three will have a chance to address that issue on draft day if they choose to.
Adrian Peterson, RB1/23/2014 7:03:00 PM
Description: Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson underwent groin surgery on Thursday. SOURCE: Vikings.com
Insight: He should be good to go in about six weeks. Peterson followed up his MVP 2012 campaign with a respectable 1,266 rushing yards and ten touchdowns in 2013.
Adrian Peterson, RB1/22/2014 9:02:00 PM
Description: Vikings halfback Adrian Peterson will have groin surgery this offseason. SOURCE: Josina Anderson, ESPN
Insight: The doctor who will be performing the surgery also performed Peterson's sports hernia operation last offseason. He should be back in plenty of time for the start of training camp.
Adrian Peterson, RB1/19/2014 10:11:00 AM
Description: Minnesota halfback Adrian Peterson may require groin surgery later this offseason. SOURCE: Tom Pelissero, USA Today
Insight: Peterson missed two of the team's last three games though neither absence was related to a groin injury. Even if Peterson does undergo surgery, he should be back in plenty of time for the start of the 2014 regular season.
Josh Freeman, QB12/31/2013 8:25:00 PM
Description: Soon-to-be free agent Josh Freeman was late for "numerous meetings" during his tenure with the Vikings. SOURCE: USA Today
Insight: We're not sure what happened to Freeman. Once considered one of the most promising young quarterbacks in the league, Freeman's career has gone into a complete free-fall over the last several months. He was exiled from Tampa Bay before signing with the Vikings and falling all the way back to third on the quarterback depth chart by season's end. His days as a starting quarterback in this league could be over if he doesn't get his act together soon.
Matt Asiata, RB12/29/2013 6:45:00 PM
Description: Minnesota halfback Matt Asiata ran for a career-high 115 yards on 14 carries Sunday against Detroit.
Insight: He did lose a fumble but other than that, Asiata was phenomenal in his second start of the season. Obviously, he won't be of any use next season when Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart (depending on if Minnesota re-signs him) are both healthy again.
Cordarrelle Patterson, WRHot12/29/2013 1:38:00 PM
Description: Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson ran 50 yards for a score Sunday against Detroit.
Insight: The multi-talented Patterson has two rushing touchdowns, two kick return scores and three TD receptions this year. When he develops his receiving skills, he's going to be a top-five fantasy wide receiver.
Matt Asiata, RB12/29/2013 11:55:00 AM
Description: Vikings running back Matt Asiata, who was a huge surprise in Week 15, touching the ball 33 times and coming away with three touchdowns, could once again be a factor in Week 17.
Insight: The Vikings put both Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart on the inactive list.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/28/2013 5:13:00 PM
Description: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (foot) has officially been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Lions.
Insight: After missing Week 15 due to a foot sprain, Peterson had 45 yards on 11 carries and saw just one touch after halftime in Week 16 at Cincinnati. The Vikings have no reason to play Peterson in Week 17 with nothing to play for. Matt Asiata will start at running back and is a solid flex option having scored three TDs in place of Peterson two weeks ago.
Toby Gerhart, RB12/27/2013 1:55:00 PM
Description: Vikings running back Toby Gerhart (hamstring) will miss Week 17, according to Mark Craig of the Star Tribune.
Insight: Gerhart missed Week 15 and had zero carries in Week 16 despite being active. The 26-year-old's injury cost him a valuable opportunity to prove he can be a starting running back in the NFL while Adrian Peterson was down with a foot sprain. Instead, Matt Asiata received 30 carries and had three TDs in Week 15 and will start in Week 17. Gerhart will be a free agent after the season.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/27/2013 1:53:00 PM
Description: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (foot) is doubtful for Sunday's game, according to Mark Craig of the Star Tribune.
Insight: After missing Week 15 due to a foot sprain, Peterson had just 45 yards on 11 carries and saw just one touch after halftime Sunday at Cincinnati. The Vikings have no reason to play Peterson in Week 17 with nothing to play for.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/27/2013 10:03:00 AM
Description: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (foot) hopes to play Sunday against the Lions, but he'll need to see how he feels the next few days. SOURCE: Chris Scoggins, Star Tribune
Insight: After missing Week 15 due to a foot sprain, Peterson had just 45 yards on 11 carries and saw just one touch after halftime Sunday at Cincinnati. The Vikings have no reason to play Peterson in Week 17 but if he thinks he can go he'll be out there against Detroit.
Matt Cassel, QB12/23/2013 5:33:00 PM
Description: The Vikings will stick with Matt Cassel as their starting quarterback in Week 17 against the Lions.
Insight: Cassel is coming off a four-turnover game in Week 16 against the Bengals but will play a softer defense in Week 17. He's a low-end QB2.
Cordarrelle Patterson, WR12/22/2013 5:57:00 PM
Description: Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson took a handoff out of the backfield 35 yards for a touchdown Sunday against the Bengals.
Insight: Patterson only had three catches for eight yards on seven targets but he ran for 54 yards on three carries. The team has made a strong effort to get the ball in his hands lately and he's scored a touchdown in four straight games.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/22/2013 5:52:00 PM
Description: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson had 45 yards on 11 carries Sunday at Cincinnati after missing Week 15 due to a sprained foot.
Insight: Minnesota fell behind 28-7 by halftime and there was no reason to put Peterson at risk after that. He had just one touch in the second half.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/22/2013 11:58:00 AM
Description: According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (foot) is active and playing in Week 16.
Insight: Peterson missed last week's game against the Eagles due to the foot sprain he suffered in Week 14, but he wanted to play through the injury. He's a must start.
Matt Asiata, RB12/22/2013 11:55:00 AM
Description: Vikings running back Matt Asiata who was a huge surprise last week, touching the ball 33 times and coming away with three touchdowns, is inactive for Week 16.
Insight: Asiata wasn't going to play with Arian Peterson and Toby Gerhart back in the lineup.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/22/2013 10:09:00 AM
Description: According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (foot) says he's playing in Week 16.
Insight: Peterson missed last week's game against the Eagles due to the foot sprain he suffered in Week 14, but he wanted to play through the injury. Fantasy owners can expect him to play against the Bengals.
John Carlson, TE12/19/2013 5:19:00 PM
Description: Vikings TE John Carlson (concussion) experienced post-concussion symptoms after Wednesday's practice, according to Chip Scoggins of the Star Tribune.
Insight: Carlson was cleared to return after missing Week 15 but the recurring symptoms mean he'll have to go through the NFL's concussion protocol again. He's highly questionable for Week 16, leaving the Vikings with Rhett Ellison and Chase Ford at tight end for a second straight week.
John Carlson, TE12/18/2013 5:37:00 PM
Description: Vikings TE John Carlson (concussion) is expected to play in Week 16, according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Insight: Carlson missed Sunday's game against the Eagles due to a concussion, but he's been cleared to return. He's a TE2.
Matt Cassel, QBHot12/16/2013 8:38:00 PM
Description: The Vikings will use Matt Cassel as their starting quarterback for the rest of the season. SOURCE: Chris Mortensen, ESPN
Insight: Cassel has actually done fairly well as the starter, going 2-2 with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. His 90.7 QB rating is his highest since 2010. He'll have his work cut out for him against the Bengals in Week 16 (seventh-best at defending the pass).
Matt Cassel, QBHot12/16/2013 9:33:00 AM
Description: Matt Cassel will start for Minnesota Sunday against Cincinnati next weekend, according to a report from Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press
Insight: That shouldn't come as a shock to anyone after he engineered an upset of Philadelphia, throwing for 382 yards and two scores and running for a third. The news should also make Greg Jennings owners happy as he has posted much better numbers with Cassel under center.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/15/2013 6:30:00 PM
Description: Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said he anticipates having Adrian Peterson (foot) in Week 16, according to Ben Goessling of espn.com.
Insight: Peterson missed Sunday's game against the Eagles due to the foot sprain he suffered in Week 14. Toby Gerhart (hamstring) was also out, allowing Matt Asiata to rush for three TDs.
Cordarrelle Patterson, WR12/15/2013 6:12:00 PM
Description: Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson scored a touchdown for the third straight game Sunday against the Eagles.
Insight: Minnesota has made more of an effort to get its 2013 29th overall pick involved in the offense over the last five games. He's been targeted 38 times and handed five carries in that span.
Greg Jennings, WR12/15/2013 6:10:00 PM
Description: WR Greg Jennings had his first 100-yard game as a Viking Sunday against the Eagles.
Insight: Jennings hauled in 11 balls for 163 yards and a touchdown for his best game of the season. As long as Matt Cassel continues to start, Jennings is a WR3 option in 12-team leagues.
Matt Asiata, RB12/15/2013 6:06:00 PM
Description: Vikings running back Matt Asiata came into Sunday's game with three carries all season, but with Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart out he touched the ball 33 times and came away with three touchdowns.
Insight: Asiata only had 51 yards despite getting 30 carries against the Eagles, but as we know all it takes is a touchdown or two to bring home a big fantasy score.
Matt Asiata, RB12/15/2013 12:05:00 PM
Description: Seldom used running back Matt Asiata will make the start in Week 15 for the Minnesota Vikings.
Insight: Both Adrian Peterson and Tobt Gerhart are inactive. Despite the obvious heavy workload he'll get, we're not sure that you want to start Asiata against an improving Eagles defense.
Toby Gerhart, RB12/15/2013 11:37:00 AM
Description: Vikings running back Toby Gerhart (hamstring) is inactive.
Insight: Gerhart took over after Adrian Peterson suffered a foot injury Sunday at Baltimore and had 89 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries Sunday. However, he also pulled his hamstring near the end of the game. With both players out, Matt Asiata will be the team's No. 1 running back.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/15/2013 11:36:00 AM
Description: Vikings players were told that Adrian Peterson (foot) will not play Sunday against the Eagles and now it's official - he's inactive.
Insight: Toby Gerhart (hamstring) also is out, which leaves 26-year-old Matt Asiata as the No. 1 running back and a desperation flex option Sunday. Peterson may have been able to play through a sprained foot if the Vikings were in playoff contention, but with nothing to play for they will hold him out.
Toby Gerhart, RB12/15/2013 11:10:00 AM
Description: Vikings running back Toby Gerhart (hamstring) is not expected to be available for Sunday's game against the Eagles, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/15/2013 11:03:00 AM
Description: According to ESPN, Vikings players were told that Adrian Peterson (foot) will not play Sunday against the Eagles.
Insight: Toby Gerhart (hamstring) also is not expected to play, which leaves 26-year-old Matt Asiata as the No. 1 running back and a desperation flex option Sunday. Peterson may have been able to play through a sprained foot if the Vikings were in playoff contention, but with nothing to play for they will hold him out.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/14/2013 10:44:00 PM
Description: The Vikings haven't made a final decision on Adrian Peterson (foot) yet, but he made it through Minnesota's walkthrough fine on Saturday, according to Albert Breer of NFL.com.
Insight: Man is this guy tough. A week ago when Peterson was carted off the field with a sprained foot, it looked like he would be out for the rest of the season. Now he might not miss a game. Sunday's game in Minnesota kicks off at 1 p.m. ET so we should know his status by 11:30.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/14/2013 11:09:00 AM
Description: ESPN's John Clayton says Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will be a game-time decision Sunday against the Eagles.
Toby Gerhart, RB12/13/2013 2:07:00 PM
Description: Vikings running back Toby Gerhart (hamstring) jogged a little on Friday, but will probably be a game-time decision.
Insight: Gerhart took over after Adrian Peterson suffered a foot injury Sunday at Baltimore and had 89 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries Sunday. However, he also pulled his hamstring near the end of the game. The Vikings backfield situation in up in the air with both runners a game-time decision.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/13/2013 2:04:00 PM
Description: Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said a decision probably won't be made until early Sunday.
Insight: Peterson did a little jogging Friday, but fantasy owners shouldn't expect him to play. The Vikings have no reason to push their "meal ticket" in a lost season. The real problem is that backup Toby Gerhart is also questionable.
John Carlson, TE12/13/2013 2:00:00 PM
Description: Vikings TE John Carlson (concussion) missed another practice and has been ruled out for Week 15 against Philadelphia.
Insight: The Vikings are down to Rhett Ellison and Chase Ford neither of which has shown much.
John Carlson, TE12/11/2013 5:05:00 PM
Description: Vikings TE John Carlson (concussion) missed Wednesday's practice.
Insight: Carlson caught 19 passes for 264 yards and a touchdown in four games as a replacement for Kyle Rudolph (foot) before suffering a concussion Sunday at Baltimore.
Matt Cassel, QB12/11/2013 2:16:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Ben Goessling, Matt Cassel will start for Minnesota Sunday against the Eagles.
Insight: Cassel has been Minnesota's only competent option at quarterback this season and will likely close out the season under center barring some kind of disaster. However, he's too risky to start as a QB2.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/11/2013 2:09:00 PM
Description: Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said he's a little more optimistic about Toby Gerhart (hamstring) than Adrian Peterson (foot sprain) for Sunday's game against the Eagles, according to ESPN's Ben Goessling.
Insight: Peterson is out of his walking boot and will try to practice Friday. If he cannot, he'll be ruled out for Week 15.
Toby Gerhart, RB12/11/2013 2:05:00 PM
Description: Vikings running back Toby Gerhart (hamstring) will attempt to practice Friday, according to Ben Goessling of espn.com.
Insight: Gerhart took over after Adrian Peterson suffered a foot injury Sunday at Baltimore and had 89 carries and a touchdown on 15 carries Sunday. However, he also pulled his hamstring near the end of the game and is questionable for Sunday, as is Peterson. If both players have to miss Week 15 against the Eagles, Matt Asiata would have to step in.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/10/2013 8:30:00 AM
Description: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (foot sprain) will have his tests sent to a specialist.
Insight: Peterson is in a walking boot and early predictions are that he will miss Sunday's game against Philadelphia. This is Peterson, however, and he's surprised us in the past. The smart move is to pick up Toby Gerhart for insurance.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/9/2013 10:24:00 PM
Description: According to Ben Goessling of espn.com, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (foot) doesn't need surgery but is unlikely to play in Week 15.
Insight: The Vikings will know more when Peterson gets out of his walking boot and starts running. The running back said he plans on playing, but the team will have to see how his sprained foot feels when he runs.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/9/2013 5:34:00 PM
Description: According to the Star Tribune, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said his initial round of evaluations ruled out a Lisfranc injury. Peterson is scheduled to see a foot specialist Monday.
Insight: "Well, it’s a little painful," Peterson said. "Obviously it kept me out of the game. The MRI came back great so that’s good. Just got to get a CT scan to make sure the bone is OK." Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said the team's 3-9-1 record will factor into whether Peterson returns this season.
Kyle Rudolph, TE12/9/2013 2:55:00 PM
Description: Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph's season is over due to a broken foot as the team has placed him on the injured reserve.
Insight: Rudolph is backed up by John Carlson, but Carlson suffered a concussion at the end of Sunday's game. Carlson is a solid backup, but beyond that the talent is pretty thin.
Toby Gerhart, RB12/9/2013 2:18:00 PM
Description: Minnesota backup running back Toby Gerhart apparently tweaked a hamstring late in Sunday's game, according to a Star-Tribune report.
Insight: Fantasy owners are ready to jump on the Gerhart bandwagon depending on the news to starter Adrian Peterson, but this injury could put a damper on those plans.
Cordarrelle Patterson, WR12/8/2013 7:31:00 PM
Description: Cordarrelle Patterson led the Vikings with 141 receiving yards Sunday in Baltimore.
Insight: That's a career-high for Patterson. He's not quite a must-start yet but Patterson is certainly emerging as a threat in the receiving game, especially on deep passes. The rookie out of Tennessee now has five touchdowns on the season (two receiving, one rushing and two on returns).
Adrian Peterson, RB12/8/2013 2:12:00 PM
Description: Minnesota halfback Adrian Peterson was carted off with an ankle injury Sunday against Baltimore. SOURCE: Jason La Canfora, CBS Sports
Insight: Peterson rushed seven times for 13 yards before leaving. He's in the locker room getting X-rays right now. Toby Gerhart will take over at running back for the time being. A one-point effort from Peterson would be devastating for owners who started him in the fantasy playoffs this week.
Christian Ponder, QB12/6/2013 2:42:00 PM
Description: Minnesota quarterback Christian Ponder (concussion) has officially been ruled out for Sunday's game against Baltimore.
Insight: Ponder's injury will put Matt Cassel in line to be the quarterback. Adrian Peterson owners will be happy as he's averaged 175 ypg with Cassel under center. Cassel also gets the ball to Greg Jennings better than Ponder or Josh Freeman so his value could climb a little.
Christian Ponder, QB12/5/2013 3:32:00 PM
Description: Minnesota quarterback Christian Ponder (concussion) missed another practice Thursday and its probably unlikely that we will see him ready for Sunday's game.
Insight: Ponder's injury should put Matt Cassel in line to be the quarterback. Adrian Peterson owersn will be happy as he's averaged 175 ypg with Cassel under center. Cassel also gets the ball to Greg Jennings better than Ponder or Josh Freeman so his value could climb a little.
Greg Jennings, WR12/1/2013 5:28:00 PM
Description: Minnesota receiver Greg Jennings caught seven passes for 78 yards and a touchdown on nine targets Sunday against the Bears.
Insight: Jennings has pulled in three touchdowns this season and all of them were thrown by Matt Cassel. He's a WR4 at best.
Adrian Peterson, RB12/1/2013 5:20:00 PM
Description: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson gashed the Bears for 211 rushing yards on 35 carries (6.0 ypc) Sunday.
Insight: The only thing that would have made his day better is a touchdown. The Vikings have heavily featured Peterson lately, giving him at least 20 carries in five straight games and at least 32 in the last two.
Christian Ponder, QB12/1/2013 2:44:00 PM
Description: Christian Ponder suffered a concussion at the end of the first half and will not return.
Insight: Ponder is not a very good quarterback, slow of foot and weak of arm. A bad combination. Matt Cassel will be the quarterback the rest of the way.
Toby Gerhart, RBHot11/24/2013 6:41:00 PM
Description: Toby Gerhart is playing some of the best football of his career right now. Over his last two games, the Vikings backup running back has logged 158 yards on just 15 carries.
Insight: If Gerhart got any goal line work, he might be worth starting in fantasy leagues. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be happening as evidenced by his one touchdown in 11 games. The 91 yards Gerhart rushed for on Sunday were his most since Week 16 of the 2011 season when he racked up 109 yards in a win over Washington.
Adrian Peterson, RB11/24/2013 6:36:00 PM
Description: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson had a stellar day Sunday against the Packers.
Insight: Peterson finished with a season-high 146 yards on 32 carries. He's been dominant against the Packers over the last two seasons. In his last five games against them, he's totaled 714 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Peterson is three yards away from his sixth 1,000-yard season.
Adrian Peterson, RB11/24/2013 11:54:00 AM
Description: Minnesota halfback Adrian Peterson (groin) will play Sunday versus Green Bay.
Insight: Peterson was listed on the injury report as questionable heading into this game. He's far from 100 percent, but then again, Peterson at 50 percent is still better than most other running backs in the league. He rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown when he faced the Packers earlier this season.
Greg Jennings, WR11/24/2013 11:01:00 AM
Description: Minnesota receiver Greg Jennings will be active for Sunday's game against the Packers. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL Network
Insight: Jennings missed last week's contest because of an Achilles injury. He should have plenty of incentive to perform at a high level Sunday against his former team. As usual, he'll be a flex consideration.
Greg Jennings, WR11/23/2013 2:28:00 PM
Description: Vikings wideout Greg Jennings (Achilles) told reporters Thursday that he definitely expects to play Sunday against his former team the Green Bay Packers, according to startribune.com.
Insight: Jennings was expected to play in Week 11 at Seattle but experienced a setback and was a surprise inactive. The receiver has only had one game with double-digit fantasy points this entire season.
Adrian Peterson, RB11/22/2013 5:03:00 PM
Description: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (groin) practiced Friday and said he plans to play Sunday at Green Bay. SOURCE: Chris Tomasson, St. Paul Pioneer Press
Insight: Peterson is listed as questionable for the game and the team has been noncommittal about his status, but we believe Peterson when he says he'll play.
Adrian Peterson, RB11/21/2013 8:37:00 PM
Description: Vikings coach Leslie Frazier is hopeful running back Adrian Peterson (groin) can do some work Friday, according to Chip Scoggins of the Star Tribune.
Insight: Peterson missed practice Thursday and is questionable for Sunday, but he said he has every intention of playing.
Greg Jennings, WR11/21/2013 3:25:00 PM
Description: Vikings wideout Greg Jennings was back on the field Thursday, though in limited form and is questionable for Sunday versus his ofermer team the Packers.
Insight: Jennings has only produced one good game this season, against Pittsburgh in Week 4. The odds aren't good for him to do anything this weekend. He managed just one catch for nine yards in their first meeting.
Adrian Peterson, RB11/21/2013 1:43:00 PM
Description: Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson says he's planning on playing this Sunday, according to Tom Pelissero, NFL writer for USA Today.
Insight: Though Peterson's groin is certainly going to be less than 100 percent, he rarely lets his fans and fantasy owners down.
Greg Jennings, WR11/20/2013 4:42:00 PM
Description: Vikings wideout Greg Jennings still isn't practicing. SOURCE: Mark Craig, Minneapolis Star Tribune
Insight: He missed last week's game with a sore Achilles. His status for Sunday's game in Green Bay remains a mystery.
Adrian Peterson, RB11/20/2013 4:37:00 PM
Description: Minnesota halfback Adrian Peterson wasn't available for practice on Wednesday. SOURCE: Mark Craig, Minneapolis Star Tribune
Insight: It was probably a maintenance day for the veteran. Though Peterson's groin is less than 100 percent, he should be a go for this week's game against the Packers.
Christian Ponder, QBCold11/20/2013 2:42:00 PM
Description: Despite another rough outing in Week 11, Christian Ponder will once again draw the start Sunday against the Packers. SOURCE: Chip Scoggins, Minneapolis Star Tribune
Insight: Ponder is not a very good quarterback but the team's other options (Josh Freeman and Matt Cassel) are just as bad if not worse. Even with four teams on bye this week, he isn't a good option.
Adrian Peterson, RB11/18/2013 10:12:00 AM
Description: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson told Tom Powers of the St. Paul Pioneer Press that his groin injury was "bothering him a lot" Sunday.
Insight: Expect Peterson to sit out most or all of the practices this week and try to play Sunday.
Christian Ponder, QB11/17/2013 7:17:00 PM
Description: The Vikings yanked Christian Ponder after he threw an interception for a touchdown in the fourth quarter Sunday at Seattle.
Insight: This could be the end of the Ponder era in Minnesota, though with Josh Freeman and Matt Cassel as the alternatives we wouldn't rule out seeing him again this season. Ponder completed 13-of-22 for 129 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions and a lost fumble against the Seahawks.
Greg Jennings, WR11/17/2013 3:07:00 PM
Description: Minnesota receiver Greg Jennings (Achilles) was listed as probable for Sunday's game against Seattle but he's inactive.
Insight: Rookie first-rounder Cordarrelle Patterson, who had his first career receiving touchdown in Week 10, should see his biggest role of the season. However, fantasy owners shouldn't start anyone from this Vikings offense besides Adrian Peterson and tight end John Carlson.
Christian Ponder, QB11/15/2013 9:13:00 PM
Description: Minnesota QB Christian Ponder has been practicing and expects to play Sunday against Seattle. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Ponder has had a little over a week to recover from a dislocated shoulder. He's the team's best option at quarterback but that's not saying much.
Christian Ponder, QB11/13/2013 3:48:00 PM
Description: Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder (shoulder) is practicing Wednesday.
Insight: Ponder exited last Thursday's game in the third quarter due to a dislocated non-throwing shoulder. He's expected to start in Week 11 at Seattle but is not a worthwhile fantasy option even in two-QB leagues.
Jerome Simpson, WR11/9/2013 11:51:00 AM
Description: Vikings receiver Jerome Simpson was arrested on a misdemeanor DWI charge Saturday morning after refusing a breathalyzer, according to USA Today.
Insight: Hennepin County Jail records show Simpson was booked at 5:39 a.m. CT Saturday. The 27-year-old is on a 36-hour hold because it's the weekend. Simpson served a three-game suspension last season after pleading guilty to a felony drug charge in April 2012 and is on probation. He has 491 yards and no touchdowns on 33 catches this season.
Christian Ponder, QB11/8/2013 7:09:00 PM
Description: According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder's left shoulder dislocation is considered minor and could possibly start Week 11.
Insight: Ponder exited Thursday's game in the third quarter due to the injury, which he suffered while diving toward the goal line. We'll know by Wednesday whether or not Ponder will be able to start. He played well against the pitiful Redskins defense Thursday but will have to play at Seattle next if he's healthy.
Christian Ponder, QB11/7/2013 10:44:00 PM
Description: Minnesota quarterback Christian Ponder left Thursday's game against Washington with a left shoulder injury in the third quarter and will not return, according to NFL Network's Alex Flanagan. Matt Cassel has entered the game.
Insight: Ponder threw a pick on Minnesota's first drive but played well after that, completing 17-of-21 for 174 yards and two scores. Ponder suffered his injury trying to dive for a touchdown. He went to the locker room and was ruled out for the rest of the game shortly thereafter.
Kyle Rudolph, TE11/4/2013 2:25:00 PM
Description: Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph has been diagnosed with a broken foot and could be out for a month. SOURCE: Chip Scoggins, Minneapolis Star Tribune
Insight: Rudolph suffered the injury Sunday while fighting off several defenders on his way to the end zone. He has 30 receptions for 313 yards this season despite Minnesota's poor quarterback play.
Christian Ponder, QB11/4/2013 11:04:00 AM
Description: Minnesota quarterback Christian Ponder will start in Week 10 against Washington ahead of Josh Freeman and Matt Cassel, according to coach Leslie Frazier
Insight: Ponder put together a solid effort, despite the loss, going 25-of-37 for 236 yards 1 TD, 1 INT. He also rushed for 29 yards and a score. It should be noted that the Cowboys have yielded up four 400-yard passers this season, so they aren't a great test.
Adrian Peterson, RB11/3/2013 5:53:00 PM
Description: The Vikings handed off to Adrian Peterson 25 times Sunday at Dallas after giving him just 36 carries the previous three games combined.
Insight: Peterson had at least 15 carries in every game last season, but the team did not give it to him more than 13 times in any of the last three. He turned 25 carries in 140 yards and a touchdown and had 37 receiving yards in Week 9 against the Cowboys.
Kyle Rudolph, TE11/3/2013 3:10:00 PM
Description: Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph suffered a foot injury Sunday and is questionable to return, according to John Clayton of ESPN.
Insight: Rudolph suffered the injury while fighting off several defenders to get the ball in the end zone. He had two catches for 35 yards and a touchdown when he left the game.
Josh Freeman, QB11/3/2013 11:13:00 AM
Description: Minnesota will make Josh Freeman a healthy inactive in Week 9 against Dallas, according to profootballtalk.com.
Insight: Freeman is completely recovered from his concussion symptoms but the team will start Christian Ponder for the second straight game, with Matt Cassel backing him up. Adrian Peterson is the only Viking worth starting in fantasy leagues.
Jamarca Sanford, S11/1/2013 3:43:00 PM
Description: Minnesota will be without defensive backs Jamarca Sanford and Chris Cook this weekend who join FS Harrison Smith on the sidelines for the Vikings game with Dallas, according to beat writer Tom Pelissero.
Insight: With three starters out and the Dallas passing game led by Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams and Jason Witten waiting in the wings it figures to be a long day for the Vikings secondary.
Christian Ponder, QB11/1/2013 2:04:00 PM
Description: Minnesota quarterback Christian Ponder will start in Week 9 against Dallas ahead of Josh Freeman and Matt Cassel.
Insight: It's been musical chairs at QB for Minnesota with none of the team's three options giving fantasy owners much value. Avoid the Vikings' passing game until further notice.
Josh Freeman, QB10/30/2013 9:25:00 PM
Description: ESPN's Ed Werder says he is expecting the Vikings to start QB Josh Freeman Sunday against Dallas.
Insight: Christian Ponder was predictably terrible Sunday night against the Packers, and the Vikings want to evaluate Freeman to see if they have anything in him. While Freeman can't possible be any worse than he was in Week 7 against the Giants -- he completed 20-of-53 for 190 yards with one pick -- the Cowboys D/ST still is the top fantasy option this week for owners who stream defenses.
Christian Ponder, QB10/28/2013 2:18:00 PM
Description: Minnesota quarterback Christian Ponder will be in the mix for Week 9's starter, but coach Leslie Frzier would not declare him or Matt Cassel or Josh Freeman next week's starter.
Insight: It's musical chairs with none of the three giving much fantasy value. At least the team won a game with Cassel under center - the other two guys can't say that. Avoid the Vikings passing game.
Blair Walsh, K10/27/2013 7:42:00 PM
Description: Minnesota placekicker Blair Walsh is still dealing a hamstring issue, the same one he played through in Week 6 and Week 7.
Insight: Walsh's problem is with his non-kicking leg so the team never added another kicker to the roster. Fantasy owners should continue to play him.
Adrian Peterson, RB10/27/2013 7:40:00 PM
Description: Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson (hamstring) is active and ready to go after being hesitant Monday night.
Insight: All-Day should play better against Green Bay this week with Christian Ponder under center. Josh Freeman was limited in his play list and the Giants knew it. Ponder won't be.
Christian Ponder, QB10/25/2013 2:04:00 PM
Description: Minnesota quarterback Christian Ponder will start Sunday's game against the Packers with Josh Freeman declared out.
Insight: Freeman's first start in purple was a disaster. Ponder's career numbers against the Packers aren't very flattering (68.0 QB rating, 47.9 percent completion rate in four starts). Even with six teams on bye, Ponder shouldn't be a popular fantasy choice in Week 8.
Josh Freeman, QB10/25/2013 2:00:00 PM
Description: Vikings QB Josh Freeman suffered a concussion in Monday night's loss to the Giants and has already been ruled out for Week 8.
Insight: Christian Ponder was getting reps with the first team at practice and will start in Freeman's place Sunday against the Packers. He can't do any worse.
Brett Favre, QB10/24/2013 11:10:00 AM
Description: The Rams have inquired about Brett Favre's availability. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Favre hasn't played since 2010 and he wisely declined the invitation. The Rams are stuck starting journeyman Kellen Clemens Monday night against Seattle.
Adrian Peterson, RB10/24/2013 2:16:00 AM
Description: Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson said a hamstring issue made him "hesitant" last week, but that he's better now, according to Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Insight: Peterson may also have been hesitant because the Giants lined up nine guys in the box and dared the Vikings to beat them with the pass. He should play better against Green Bay this week with Christian Ponder under center.
Christian Ponder, QB10/23/2013 1:07:00 PM
Description: Minnesota quarterback Christian Ponder could be in line to start Sunday's game against the Packers.
Insight: Josh Freeman's first start in purple was a disaster and now ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that he may have suffered a concussion. Ponder's career numbers against the Packers aren't very flattering (68.0 QB rating, 47.9 percent completion rate in four starts). Even with six teams on bye, Ponder shouldn't be a popular fantasy choice in Week 8.
Josh Freeman, QB10/23/2013 12:46:00 PM
Description: ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Vikings QB Josh Freeman suffered a concussion in Monday night's loss to the Giants.
Insight: Christian Ponder was getting reps with the first team at practice on Wednesday and would be the favorite to start in Freeman's place Sunday against the Packers. Neither one is a viable fantasy option.
Josh Freeman, QB10/22/2013 7:06:00 PM
Description: Even though he completed just 20-of-53 passes for 190 yards Monday against the Giants, Josh Freeman will get another start for the Vikings in Week 8 against the Packers.
Insight: The numbers don't do justice as to just how terrible Freeman was in his first Vikings start. He should improve with more practice time in the Vikings system but shouldn't be near fantasy lineups Sunday night against Green Bay, even in two-QB leagues.
Blair Walsh, K10/21/2013 10:31:00 AM
Description: Minnesota placekicker Blair Walsh is still dealing a hamstring issue, the same one he played through in Week 6.
Insight: Walsh's problem is with his non-kicking leg so the team never added another kicker to the roster. Fantasy owners should continue to play him.
Jarius Wright, WR10/21/2013 10:27:00 AM
Description: Vikings backup receiver Jarius Wright is probable for Monday's game against the New York Giants due to an ankle injury.
Insight: He's way down the list of targets for quarterback Josh Freeman and at this point has little to no fantasy value.
Adrian Peterson, RB10/21/2013 10:25:00 AM
Description: Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson has been dealing with a hamstring issue, but is expected to play Monday night.
Insight: Peterson didn't practice Friday, but was back on the field for Saturday's session. "Superman" will be the Vikings' primary weapon against the Giants with newly-acquired Josh Freeman under center. Start him as always and enjoy the ride.
Harrison Smith, S10/18/2013 4:18:00 PM
Description: The Vikings have placed safety Harrison Smith (toe) on injured reserve/designated to return.
Insight: Minnesota's defense has been terrible against both the pass and the run this season and losing one of its best players won't help matters. Eli Manning should have one of his better games of the season Monday night and Brandon Jacobs is a RB2 this week.
Josh Freeman, QB10/16/2013 3:08:00 PM
Description: Josh Freeman will get the start at quarterback Monday night against the Giants.
Insight: Monday will be Freeman's Vikings debut. Freeman was awful playing for Tampa Bay earlier this season and that was with better receiving weapons than the ones he has in Minnesota. He's not a recommended fantasy play even against a porous Giants secondary.
Desmond Bishop, LB10/14/2013 1:53:00 PM
Description: Vikings backup LB Desmond Bishop has a torn ACL and is done for the season, according to Tom Pelissero of USA Today Sports.
Insight: Minnesota's defense is already averaged 418 ypg, so losing linebacker depth won't help.
Blair Walsh, K10/13/2013 12:43:00 PM
Description: Minnesota placekicker Blair Walsh, a late entry on the injury report, will play Sunday against Carolina.
Insight: Walsh's problem was with his non-kicking leg so the team never added another kicker to the roster.
Josh Freeman, QB10/13/2013 12:03:00 PM
Description: Vikings newly signed quarterback Josh Freeman is inactive for Week 6.
Insight: We expected Matt Cassel to start with Christian Ponder hurting and Freeman new to the playbook, but all bets are off for Week 7.
Adrian Peterson, RB10/13/2013 11:48:00 AM
Description: Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson is active for Sunday's game versus Carolina.
Insight: Peterson left the Vikings to be with his family after his 2-year-old son passed away earlier in the week. Peterson's mind probably won't be on football today but if you have him, you have to start him.
Adrian Peterson, RB10/12/2013 8:59:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Josina Anderson, grieving Vikings halfback Adrian Peterson is expected to play Sunday against Carolina.
Insight: Peterson's 2-year-old son died Friday in South Dakota after he was allegedly assaulted by his mother's boyfriend. Players who have played with heavy hearts in the past have gone on to some incredible fantasy performances including Torrey Smith last season after his brother passed away and Brett Favre the night after his father died. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Peterson's family during this difficult time.
Adrian Peterson, RB10/11/2013 11:30:00 AM
Description: Adrian Peterson, who was in Sioux Falls, South Dakota dealing with his two-year old son in critical condition, will be at practice Friday, according to Vikings beat reporter Ben Goessling.
Insight: Obviously AP's head will be elsewhere when he plays Sunday, but as long as he's on the field, he's a must start. Peterson has rushed for 421 yards and five scores over his first four games.
Matt Cassel, QB10/10/2013 10:23:00 AM
Description: It appears that Matt Cassel has officially passed Christian Ponder on the team's quarterback depth chart. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Christian Ponder (rib injury) has been cleared to play Sunday against Carolina but Leslie Frazier has decided that Cassel will get the start instead. With Adrian Peterson as the focal point, we wouldn't expect Cassel to throw for 300 yards but he should at least be good for four quarters of relatively mistake-free football.
Josh Freeman, QB10/7/2013 11:40:00 AM
Description: The Vikings have signed quarterback Josh Freeman.
Insight: As if the Vikings QB situation wasn't muddled enough. We still expect Matt Cassel to start in Week 6 with Christian Ponder hurting and Freeman new to the playbook, but all bets are off for Week 7.
Christian Ponder, QB10/3/2013 12:06:00 PM
Description: The broken rib Minnesota QB Christian Ponder suffered in Week 3 was close to his heart. SOURCE: Judd Zulgad, ESPN 1500 Twin Cities
Insight: Obviously the injury is a significant one and it should keep Ponder out for 3-to-4 weeks at the minimum. If backup Matt Cassel impresses over the next few games, Ponder could be holding a clipboard upon his return.
Matt Cassel, QBHot9/30/2013 10:10:00 AM
Description: Minnesota quarterback Matt Cassel is likely to start again after the Week 5 bye given that he led the Vikings to their first win of the season.
Insight: The inconsistent Christian Ponder sat out the game with a rib injury and while coach Leslie Frazier said Ponder was still his starter, we have our doubts. The Cassel-led Vikings scored a season-high 34 points on Pittsburgh as he passed for 248 yards and two scores without an interception. Ponder has thrown at least one interception in each game he's played this season.
Jerome Simpson, WR9/29/2013 5:39:00 PM
Description: Vikings receiver Jerome Simpson pulled down seven catches for 124 yards on 11 targets Sunday against the Steelers.
Insight: Simpson has been inconsistent, catching five passes for 78 yards combined in games two and three and 14 passes for 264 yards in games one and four. He's averaging 85.5 receiving yards per game, but we don't have any confidence that he'll be a week-to-week starting option.
Greg Jennings, WR9/29/2013 5:32:00 PM
Description: In Matt Cassel's first start of the season, Greg Jennings tallied 92 receiving yards and two touchdowns on three catches.
Insight: Jennings only had four targets, but he made them count. With Christian Ponder at QB the first three games, Jennings had 11 catches for 160 yards and no touchdowns.
Adrian Peterson, RB9/29/2013 5:23:00 PM
Description: Vikings tailback Adrian Peterson shredded Pittsburgh for 140 yards on 23 carries Sunday in London.
Insight: Peterson abused the Steelers on a 60-yard touchdown in the second quarter and later scored from seven yards out. The 28-year-old had some difficulty finding room to run over his first three games of the season, gaining just 3.0 yards per carry on his last 68 carries after picking up 78 yards on his first rush of the season, but Matt Cassel opened things up a bit Sunday. Peterson now has six touchdowns and 421 rushing yards in four games.
Christian Ponder, QB9/28/2013 6:59:00 PM
Description: The Vikings are treating Christian Ponder's rib injury as "week to week." Ponder has already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Steelers. SOURCE: NBC's Pro Football Talk
Insight: It's likely that Matt Cassell will start the next two games before the team's bye week in Week 5. A strong performance by Cassel might cost Ponder his job.
Matt Cassel, QB9/27/2013 1:45:00 PM
Description: Minnesota quarterback Matt Cassel will start in place on injured Christian Ponder (ribs) against Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Insight: The inconsistent Christian Ponder hasn't done much all season, so if Cassell plays well against the Steelers he could take the job away from Ponder. It has been three years since Cassel was fantasy relevant, so don't go running to the waiver wire to claim him, unless you are very weak at the position.
Christian Ponder, QBCold9/27/2013 1:41:00 PM
Description: Apparently Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder's rib injury was worse than originally thought as the team has announced that Matt Cassel will start against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Ponder has led the team to an 0-3 record with two touchdown passes and five picks this season so if Cassel does anything good he could take the job permanently.
Christian Ponder, QBCold9/26/2013 3:16:00 PM
Description: Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder (rib) was able to take the majority of the team's practice snaps Thursday, but if his injury is still limiting him after Friday's practice, Minnesota could name Matt Cassel the starter for Sunday's game against the Steelers.
Insight: Ponder has led the team to an 0-3 record with two touchdown passes and five picks this season. Cassel was terrible the last two seasons as Kansas City's starting quarterback, so we aren't hopeful that any Minnesota receiver will yield fantasy value this year.
Christian Ponder, QBCold9/25/2013 10:15:00 AM
Description: Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder finished the game Sunday against Cleveland, but revealed afterwards that he is dealing with a rib injury. SOURCE: Pioneer Press
Insight: Ponder (25-for-42, 228 yards, one INT last week) has thrown five interceptions this season against just two touchdown passes. If Ponder's injury gets worse, the Vikings have a solid backup in Matt Cassel.
Adrian Peterson, RB9/22/2013 6:14:00 PM
Description: Minnesota halfback Adrian Peterson scored a touchdown Sunday against the Browns but he also lost a fumble and his 3.5 yard per carry average was his lowest of the season.
Insight: Peterson still produced 88 yards rushing, so we wouldn't get too down on him. His 4.1 ypc rate isn't ideal, but he's getting enough carries to make it work.
Christian Ponder, QBCold9/22/2013 6:08:00 PM
Description: Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder has now been intercepted five times in his first three games.
Insight: He's only thrown two touchdowns over that span. At least Ponder (25-for-42, 228 yards, one INT) had the decency to rush for 46 yards on five carries Sunday against Cleveland, though it probably wasn't enough to salvage the day for most fantasy owners.
Cordarrelle Patterson, WR9/17/2013 7:57:00 PM
Description: Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said the team is going to get rookie receiver Cordarrelle Patterson's lack of snaps over the first two games "rectified." SOURCE: 1500espn.com
Insight: Patterson has played just 11 snaps over the first two games after the team gave up 2013 second-, third-, fourth- and seventh-round picks to move up to take him at 29th overall. "He definitely deserves to be on the field more," Frazier said. "He's shown that in the few snaps he's gotten in these first two ball games." The rookie took the opening kickoff back 105 yards for a touchdown Sunday against the Bears and has the ability to be a Percy Harvin-type weapon for the Vikings if OC Bill Musgrave chooses to use him.
Adrian Peterson, RB9/8/2013 5:30:00 PM
Description: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown on his first carry of the day Sunday against the Lions and added two more touchdowns later in the game.
Insight: Detroit held Peterson to just 15 yards on his next 17 carries, but the superstar scored a short touchdown and added a receiving score to finish with three touchdowns.
Adrian Peterson, RB8/26/2013 3:46:00 PM
Description: Vikings superstar running back Adrian Peterson will be without his starting fullback for the first three games of the season.
Insight: Jerome Felton was suspended for three games by the league. "AP" rushed for 2,097 yards last season with Felton leading the way.
Jerome Felton, FB8/26/2013 3:44:00 PM
Description: Vikings All-Pro fullback Jerome Felton's preseason just went from bad to worse. Felton was suspended three games Monday for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Previously, Felton had undergone an emergency appendectomy.
Insight: Felton was probably going to miss the opening week anyway because of his surgery. His top-notch blocking helped pave the way for Adrian Peterson to rush for over 2,000 yards last season.
Jerome Felton, FB8/14/2013 9:33:00 PM
Description: Vikings All-Pro fullback Jerome Felton had an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday. SOURCE: Minneapolis Star-Tribune
Insight: He'll miss the rest of the preseason. Felton didn't record a carry last season but his top-notch blocking paved the way for Adrian Peterson to rush for over 2,000 yards. Hopefully he'll be ready to go by Week 1.
