Right Field Player Notes
For The Last 15 Days

Nate Schierholtz, RF, CHCCold4/24/2014 8:34:00 PM
Description: Cubs right fielder Nate Schierholtz is hitting .221 with zero home runs and a .490 OPS this season.
Insight: Schierholtz is coming off a season in which he hit .257 with 21 home runs in 462 at-bats. He did most of that damage against right-handers but has hit under .173 against righties this year.
Dayan Viciedo, RF, CWSHot4/24/2014 5:52:00 PM
Description: Chicago right fielder Dayan Viciedo has gone 14-for-24 (.583) with four doubles, one home run, five RBI and six runs over his last six games.
Insight: Viciedo took over the starting job in right field when Avisail Garcia suffered a season-ending injury and has hit .377 in 69 at-bats. His strikeout rate is down from 20.7 percent in 2013 to 14.5 percent this year, but he also has benefited from a .431 BABIP and only has one home run all season.
Shane Victorino, RF, BOS4/24/2014 5:20:00 PM
Description: Boston right fielder Shane Victorino (hamstring) is in the starting lineup Thursday against CC Sabathia and the Yankees.
Insight: Victorino is a career .409 hitter (9-for-22) against Sabathia. The outfielder was activated from the disabled list Thursday after missing the first three weeks of the year with a Grade 1 hamstring strain.
Roger Kieschnick, RF, SFG4/24/2014 12:15:00 PM
Description: Roger Kieschnick has been called up from Triple-A Reno and is in Thursday's starting lineup.
Insight: Kieschnick hit .281 with three homers in the minore this spring. If he plays well he could see plenty of action until Mark Trumbo returns from injury.
Marlon Byrd, RF, PHI4/24/2014 10:20:00 AM
Description: Phillies right fielder Marlon Byrd is a lifetime .476 hitter (10-for-21) with a pair of homers against Dodgers starter Dan Haren.
Insight: After homering on Opening Day, Bryd has not done much. He hit .291 with a career-high 24 round-trippers last season, but we're still skeptical that he can match those numbers this season. He's batting .238 through the first 21 games with two homers and 12 RBI.
Shane Victorino, RF, BOS4/24/2014 10:15:00 AM
Description: Boston right fielder Shane Victorino (hamstring) is healthy enough to return to the lineup and has a favorable matchup on Thursday for a possible season debut.
Insight: Victorino is a career .409 hitter (9-for-22) against Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia. He's also 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts.
Will Venable, RF, SDPCold4/24/2014 10:10:00 AM
Description: Padres right fielder Will Venable is a career .077 hitter (1-for-13) against Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann.
Insight: He's batting .211 with zero home runs, two RBI and zero steals through the first 22 games. Venable hit .312 with 12 homers and 13 steals over his final 74 games last year to finish with 22 homers and 22 stolen bases, but he's failed to carry that over into the 2014 season. The home run drought isn't likely to end on Thursday.
Jay Bruce, RF, CINHot4/23/2014 10:49:00 PM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce has gone 10-for-21 with three doubles, a homer, five RBI, five runs in his last five games.
Insight: Bruce raised his averagefrom .157 to .250 during that timeframe. He went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two steals Wednesday.
Charlie Blackmon, RF, COLHot4/23/2014 7:51:00 PM
Description: Colorado right fielder Charlie Blackmon went 2-for-5 with a homer, three RBI, four runs scored and a steal Wednesday against the Giants.
Insight: Blackmon has hit four homers over his last three games and now has five on the year to go with his .410 average, 16 RBI, 19 runs, six steals and a 5/6 K/BB. The low-strikeout rate and Coors-Field factor should give the 27-year-old Blackmon staying power in fantasy leagues.
Justin Ruggiano, RF, CHC4/23/2014 6:12:00 PM
Description: Cubs right fielder Justin Ruggiano left Wednesday's game in the ninth inning with a left hamstring injury and is going for an MRI, according to Patrick Mooney of csnchicago.com.
Insight: Ruggiano suffered the injury while attempting to make a sliding catch and had to be helped off the field. He's expected to be placed on the disabled list.
Shane Victorino, RF, BOS4/23/2014 6:00:00 PM
Description: Boston right fielder Shane Victorino (hamstring) is healthy enough to return but the team will wait to activate him after Jon Lester lasted only 4 2/3 innings on Tuesday night. SOURCE: Sean McAdam, csnne.com.
Insight: With the bullpen worn out, the Red Sox have opted to call up Alex Wilson rather than activate Victorino. The outfielder should be back Thursday and is expected to hit first or second when he returns.
Torii Hunter, RF, DET4/23/2014 3:56:00 PM
Description: Tigers right fielder Torii Hunter is getting the night off Wednesday against the White Sox. SOURCE: Jason Beck, MLB.com
Insight: This was a scheduled day off for Hunter, who is now hitting .259 in 15 games this season. Don Kelly (.313, 0 HR, 1 RBI) is getting the start in right field.
Nick Markakis, RF, BAL4/23/2014 1:16:00 PM
Description: O's right fielder Nick Markakis hasn't had much luck against Blue Jays starter Dustin McGowan in his career.
Insight: He's hitting an unimpressive .154 against the right-hander in 13 at bats. Markakis (.275, 0 HR, 5 RBI) is more valuable to his team in real life than he is to fantasy owners.
Shane Victorino, RF, BOS4/23/2014 1:04:00 PM
Description: Boston right fielder Shane Victorino is healthy enough to return but the team may wait to activate him after Jon Lester lasted only 4 2/3 innings on Tuesday night. SOURCE: Alex Speier, WEEI
Insight: With the bullpen worn out, the Red Sox may need to call up an arm from Pawtucket to eat up some innings. Either way, Victorino (strained hamstring) should be back with the team later this week.
David Murphy, RF, CLE4/23/2014 11:44:00 AM
Description: Fantasy owners should avoid Cleveland right fielder David Murphy on Wednesday.
Insight: That's because of his dreadful batting average against Royals starter Jason Vargas (.091 in 22 at bats). Murphy has gotten off to a nice start (.288, 2 HR, 15 RBI) but we wouldn't expect much from him on Wednesday.
Carlos Beltran, RF, NYY4/23/2014 11:37:00 AM
Description: New York right fielder Carlos Beltran hasn't made much success against Red Sox right-hander John Lackey (2-for-12).
Insight: We tell you that because that's who Beltran will be facing on Wednesday. Beltran has had a good season though (.296, 5 HR, 13 RBI in 18 games) so you may not want to take him out of your lineup.
Hunter Pence, RF, SFGCold4/23/2014 11:35:00 AM
Description: Giants right fielder Hunter Pence hasn't had the season he was hoping for and it's probably not going to get much better on Wednesday.
Insight: That's because he's facing Colorado right-hander Tyler Chatwood, a pitcher he's hitless against in his career (0-for-14). Pence is barely hitting .200 right now (.213) and doesn't deserve to be starting in any fantasy leagues until he breaks out of his season-long slump.
Dayan Viciedo, RF, CWSHot4/23/2014 9:28:00 AM
Description: Chicago right fielder Dayan Viciedo jolted four hits in Tuesday night's loss to the Tigers.
Insight: Viciedo is now on a four-game hitting streak (10-for-18). His .361 batting average this season is fifth-best in the major leagues.
Carlos Beltran, RF, NYYHot4/22/2014 10:34:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran went deep off Edward Mujica in the eighth inning Tuesday at Boston.
Insight: The game was out of hand by that point with the Yankees up 8-2, but fantasy owners will take it just the same. Beltran leads New York with five home runs and 13 RBI.
Shane Victorino, RF, BOS4/22/2014 5:33:00 PM
Description: Red Sox right fielder Shane Victorino (hamstring) could be back Wednesday, according to Sean McAdam of csnne.com.
Insight: Victorino will play his third rehab game Tuesday and should be activated for Wednesday's game unless he suffers a setback. Boston has a crowded outfield at the moment with Jackie Bradley Jr., Grady Sizemore, Jonny Gomes, Daniel Nava and Mike Carp all seeing action early in the season. The Red Sox are expected to go with Sizemore, Bradley and Victorino as the regular starters and Mike Carp could be the odd man out on the roster.
Ichiro Suzuki, RF, NYY4/22/2014 4:08:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Ichiro Suzuki will get the start Tuesday night against Boston and Jon Lester.
Insight: Ichiro is a career .333 hitter off Lester (17-for-51) with a couple of homers while Brett Gardner will take a seat.
Alex Rios, RF, TEX4/22/2014 11:56:00 AM
Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios is hitless in nine career at-bats against Oakland starter Tommy Malone.
Insight: Rios has stuck out four times. He's been good this season, batting .325 with 10 RBI and eight runs scored, but this is an unfavorable matchup.
Will Venable, RF, SDP4/22/2014 11:50:00 AM
Description: Padres right fielder Will Venable is a career .467 hitter (7-for-15) versus Milwaukee right-hander Yovani Gallardo.
Insight: He's batting .224 with zero home runs and zero steals through the first 20 games. Venable hit .312 with 12 homers and 13 steals over his final 74 games last year to finish with 22 homers and 22 stolen bases, but he's failed to carry that over into the 2014 season.
Michael Cuddyer, RF, COL4/21/2014 5:04:00 PM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer (hamstring) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 18.
Insight: Cuddyer has been a fantasy stud since joining the Rockies. He is batting .317 with three homers, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored. Corey Dickerson and Drew Stubbs should see more at-bats in his absence.
Josh Reddick, RF, OAKCold4/21/2014 12:08:00 PM
Description: Athletics right fielder Josh Reddick has just one hit in 14 at-bats against Texas starter Yu darvish.
Insight: He's also struck out eight times in those 14 at-bats which makes him a definite candidate for a seat on the bench.
Jay Bruce, RF, CIN4/21/2014 11:38:00 AM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce is still seeking his first hit against Pittsburgh starter Francisco Liriano.
Insight: Bruce is 0-for-11 with six strikeouts. He's smacked three homers, but is batting just .220 with 18 strikeouts in 59 at-bats.
Nick Markakis, RF, BAL4/21/2014 9:46:00 AM
Description: Baltimore outfielder Nick Markakis is a cold 5-for-37 (.135) without an extra base hit against Boston starter Clay Buchholz.
Insight: Markakis' .278 batting average comes with no homers, which makes him a poor value on Monday.
Dayan Viciedo, RF, CWSHot4/20/2014 8:30:00 PM
Description: Dayan Viciedo was one of three White Sox to record three or more hits Sunday against Texas.
Insight: Chicago's 16 runs were a season-high. Viciedo's average has shot up to .321 thanks to a stellar weekend of hitting. He's gone 5-for-8 with four RBI over his last two games.
Jason Heyward, RF, ATL4/20/2014 6:05:00 PM
Description: Atlanta right fielder Jason Heyward had an encouraging afternoon Sunday against the Mets.
Insight: Heyward finished 3-for-6 with a double and two singles as the Braves fell 4-3 in extra innings. Prior to Sunday, Heyward had just one hit in his previous 16 at bats. Even after Sunday's three-hit performance, Heyward's average is still only .171.
Matt Joyce, RF, TAMHot4/20/2014 12:03:00 PM
Description: With lefty Vidal Nuno on the mound for the Yankees Sunday, Rays OF/DH Matt Joyce will take a seat.
Insight: Joyce can't hit lefties and rarely starts against them. The 29-year-old is hitting .349 with two homers, seven RBI and a 1.044 OPS in 43 at-bats this year.
Will Venable, RF, SDPCold4/20/2014 9:49:00 AM
Description: Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum has struck out Padres right fielder Will Venable 18 times in 48 at-bats. Venable has gone 11-for-48 (.229) against Lincecum.
Insight: Venable hit .312 with 12 homers and 13 steals over his final 74 games last year to finish with 22 homers and 22 stolen bases, but he's failed to carry that over into this season. He's batting .233 with zero home runs and zero steals so far and will get Lincecum on Sunday.
Nate Schierholtz, RF, CHC4/20/2014 9:40:00 AM
Description: Cubs right fielder Nate Schierholtz has gone 7-for-15 (.467) with two doubles and a home run against Reds starter Homer Bailey.
Insight: Schierholtz is struggling right now, batting .231 with zero home runs in 52 at-bats, but so is Bailey (8.16 ERA, 2.02 WHIP).
Wil Myers, RF, TAM4/19/2014 10:37:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay right fielder Wil Myers exploded out of a slump with a double, two homers, four RBI, four runs and a walk Saturday against the Yankees.
Insight: Myers has gone 6-for-9 with seven RBI in his last two games. He went 10 games without an RBI prior to that and didn't have a homer before Saturday.
Marcell Ozuna, RF, MIAHot4/19/2014 10:21:00 PM
Description: Marlins outfielder Marcell Ozuna has gone 9-for-17 with two doubles, a homer, six RBI and six runs over his last four games.
Insight: Ozuna went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI Saturday against the Mariners. The 23-year-old is batting .343 with three longballs, 10 RBI and 12 runs. He's in a nice spot right now, hitting in front of Giancarlo Stanton and behind Christian Yelich.
Michael Cuddyer, RF, COL4/19/2014 10:09:00 PM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer (hamstring) took batting practice Saturday but he's still sore and may have to go on the DL, according to the Denver Post.
Insight: "You can probably carry a player like that 3-4 days before you make a call," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "He’s still pretty sore. So we’ll have to watch him pretty close the next few days." Cuddyer tweaked his left hamstring Thursday and missed the last two games.
Josh Reddick, RF, OAK 4/19/2014 7:30:00 PM
Description: Athletics right fielder Josh Reddick has gone 6-for-9 with a homer and three RBI over his last two games.

Jay Bruce, RF, CIN 4/19/2014 7:29:00 PM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce went 3-for-3 with a walk and one RBI Saturday against the Cubs.
Insight: Bruce has been much more selective this year than in the past -- he has a career-low 18.3 percent chase rate and a career-high 20.3 percent walk rate. However, he's only batting .204 with two homers.
Yasiel Puig, RF, LOS4/19/2014 6:19:00 PM
Description: Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig is not in the starting lineup Saturday, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.
Insight: Puig is getting a rest. The 23-year-old is still dealing with a left thumb injury and has hit .235 with one home run and five RBI this season.
Carlos Beltran, RF, NYY4/19/2014 4:40:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran is in the starting lineup for Saturday.
Insight: Beltran was chasing down a foul ball and tumbled over a fence, hurting his left shoulder and right wrist on Thursday and sat out Friday. He's off to a solid start, batting .298 with four homers and nine RBI in his first 15 appearances.
Carlos Beltran, RF, NYY4/19/2014 3:28:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran could get a second consecutive game off after taking a spill Thursday against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Beltran was chasing down a foul ball and tumbled over a fence, hurting his left shoulder and right wrist. He stayed in the game, so the injury isn't considered serious. He's off to a solid start, batting .298 with four homers and nine RBI in his first 15 appearances.
Curtis Granderson, RF, NYM4/19/2014 10:43:00 AM
Description: Mets right fielder Curtis Granderson doesn't hit Braves start Ervin Santana for a high average, but he's taken him deep five times.
Insight: The slugger is struggling in the early going, batting .154 through the first 15 games with one homer and four RBI, but the five home runs are the most he's hit off any pitcher in his career (also five off Jered Weaver).
Jay Bruce, RF, CINCold4/19/2014 10:28:00 AM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce is an ugly 1-for-14 (.071) against Chicago right-hander Edwin Jackson with five strikeouts.
Insight: The streaky Bruce is batting .157 this season and should be avoided until he gets hot.
Giancarlo Stanton, RF, MIAHot4/18/2014 10:45:00 PM
Description: Giancarlo Stanton sent the Marlins home with a walkoff grand slam Friday against Seattle.
Insight: It came off Mariners left-hander Yoervis Medina. Stanton leads all of MLB with six homers and 26 RBI this season.
Michael Cuddyer, RF, COL4/18/2014 4:35:00 PM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer had to leave Thursday's game with a hamstring cramp and is not in Friday night's starting lineup.
Insight: The Rockies will go with an outfield or Carlos Gonzalez, Drew Stubbs and Charlie Blackmon. Stubbs has nothing nothing to date, batting .136 in 22 at-bats this season and shouldn't be in any fantasy lineups.
Carlos Beltran, RF, NYY4/18/2014 4:32:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran will have the night off Friday after taking a spill Thursday against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Beltran was chasing down a foul ball and tumbled over a fence, hurting his left shoulder and right wrist. He stayed in the game, so the injury isn't considered serious. He's off to a solid start, batting .298 with four homers and nine RBI in his first 15 appearances.
Jason Heyward, RF, ATL4/18/2014 4:30:00 PM

Description: Pittsburgh right fielder Jose Tabata is a stunning .467 hitter versus Milwaukee starter Kyle Lohse (14-for-30).
Insight: Tabata suffered a blow to the head in Wednesday's loss to Cincinnati and only pinch hit on Thursday, but could be ready to go in this favorable matchup. If he's in the Pirates lineup, he should be in yours. Update - He's in Friday's lineup, batting seventh.

Description: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran could get Friday after after taking a spill in Thursday's game.

Scott Van Slyke, RF, LOS4/18/2014 10:43:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles outfielder Scott Van Slyke ought to get a spot start on Friday as he's 4-for-11 (.364) with two doubles and two homers versus Arizona left-hander Wade Miley.
Insight: Van Slyke offers power to fantasy owners when he gets a chance to play, but its a crowded Dodgers outfield and he's No. 5 on the depth chart. He's batting .313 this season with a 1.138 OPS. He's worth a flier if he's in the starting lineup.
Giancarlo Stanton, RF, MIAHot4/18/2014 10:33:00 AM
Description: Miami right fielder Giancarlo Stanton has only faced Seattle right-hander Chris Young five times, but he has posted a double and two homers in their matchups.

Description: Rays OF/DH Matt Joyce is a career .357 hitter with three solo homers against Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda.

Description: Pittsburgh right fielder Jose Tabata is a stunning .467 hitter versus Milwaukee starter Kyle Lohse (14-for-30).

Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer had to leave Thursday's game with a hamstring cramp. SOURCE: Thomas Harding, MLB.com

Boston has a crowded outfield at the moment with Jackie Bradley Jr., Grady Sizemore, Jonny Gomes, Daniel Nava and Mike Carp all seeing action early in the season. Carp (.214, 0 HR, 2 RBI) is likely to be the odd man out when Victorino returns.
Yasiel Puig, RF, LOS4/17/2014 2:32:00 PM
Description: Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig will bat in the No. 3 hole on Thursday for the first time in his career.
Insight: Fantasy owners would like the 23-year-old to play well in this RBI spot as it would add more value. He's getting the opportunity because Hanley Ramirez is not in the lineup nor is Carl Crawford or Andre Ethier.
Kole Calhoun, RF, ANA4/16/2014 8:35:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles right fielder Kole Calhoun has been diagnosed with a severe ankle sprain. He'll miss 4-to-6 weeks. SOURCE: Jeff Fletcher, Orange County Register
Insight: It's awful timing as Calhoun was just starting to find his groove offensively (seven for his last 15). Former Tiger Brennan Boesch will take Calhoun's place on the active roster.
Josh Reddick, RF, OAKCold4/16/2014 7:19:00 PM
Description: A's right fielder Josh Reddick will take a seat Wednesday versus the Angels. SOURCE: Susan Slusser, San Francisco Chronicle
Insight: So much for that bounceback season. Reddick's nightmare 2013 campaign has carried over into 2014 (.098 AVG in 41 at bats). Don't expect the 27-year-old to turn things around anytime soon.

Description: Pittsburgh right fielder Jose Tabata suffered a mild concussion Wednesday in a loss to Cincinnati. SOURCE: C. Trent Rosecrans, Cincinnati Enquirer
Insight: Tabata went 0-for-2 with a strikeout before exiting. Travis Snider (.240, 3 HR, 6 RBI) figures to see most of the playing time in right field, which was already the case even before Tabata (.222, 0 HR, 1 RBI) got hurt.
George Springer, RF, HOU4/16/2014 4:24:00 PM
Description: George Springer will make his major league debut Wednesday against the Royals. He's batting second and starting in right field. SOURCE: Howard Chen, Comcast Sportsnet Houston
Insight: Springer was arguably the best player in minor league baseball last season and was absolutely crushing it at Triple-A Oklahoma City before his callup (.353, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 4 SB in 13 games). If Springer lives up to the hype, he could be a candidate for Rookie of the Year.

Description: Pirates outfielder Jose Tabata left Wednesday's game with concussion-like symptoms, according to Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Insight: Heyward is 3-for-22 (.136) against Lee, who will start Wednesday against the Braves. The 24-year-old is batting .160 in the early going, though he does have two homers, four steals and 10 walks.
Curtis Granderson, RF, NYM4/16/2014 10:30:00 AM
Description: Fantasy owners shouldn't use Curtis Granderson (ribs, forearm, knee) if the Mets right fielder is in the lineup Wednesday against Arizona.
Insight: Granderson injured his ribs, forearm and knee when he crashed into the right-field wall Monday night against Arizona and sat out Tuesday. The slugger is struggling in the early going, batting .170 through the first 13 games with one homer and four RBI, and he's 2-for-14 against Wednesday's starter Brandon McCarthy.
