Texas Rangers Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Prince Fielder, 1B4/18/2014 10:38:00 AM
Description: Rangers 1B Prince Fielder is 4-for-8 with a pair of homers and five walks against White Sox starter Felipe Paulino.
Insight: Fielder has struggled with his new team, but appears to be finiding his stroke. He's 4-for-14 over his last four games, including his first homer of the season.
Alex Rios, RF 4/16/2014 10:41:00 AM
Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios has batted.219 with 12 strikeouts against Felix Hernandez of the Mariners.
Insight: Rios has 32 career at-bats against the M's starter. He's also 3-for-23 over his last six games, so avoid him Wednesday.
Kevin Kouzmanoff, 3BHot4/16/2014 10:39:00 AM
Description: Rangers third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff has gone 9-for-20 (.450) with three doubles, one homer and five RBI in six games while filling in for Adrian Beltre (quad), but he's been terrible against Mariners ace Felix Hernandez.
Insight: Kouzmanoff is back in the majors for the first time since 2011. He's 3-for-24 (.125) with nine Ks against Hernandez.
Elvis Andrus, SS4/16/2014 10:37:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus has taken 67 at-bats against Seattle's Felix Hernandez and posted a .299 average (20-for-67).
Insight: Andrus is hitting .309 with three doubles, eight runs and four steals this season. Don't avoid him Wednesday just because King Felix is on the mound for the M's.
Prince Fielder, 1B4/15/2014 10:35:00 PM
Description: Rangers 1B Prince Fielder hit his first homer of the season Tuesday.
Insight: Fielder is batting .185 with nine Ks and seven BBs. His bat slowed down last season and he displayed reduced plate discipline. Moving to a better hitters park in Texas won't do anything to reverse that decline, but he should be able to put up solid numbers once he gets out of his slump.
Robbie Ross Jr., RP4/15/2014 10:31:00 PM
Description: Texas starter Robbie Ross blanked the Mariners over 7 2/3 innings Tuesday night.
Insight: Ross didn't walk a batter after issuing six free passes his last time out. He has a 1.00 ERA through his first three starts in the majors. He pitched exclusively in relief the last two years.
Elvis Andrus, SS4/15/2014 11:28:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is just a .133 hitter (2-for-15) against Mariners starter Blake Beavan.
Insight: Andrus had an 11-game hitting streak end on Sunday, but got bat on the hit wagon Monday. Still, this is an unfavorable matchup to be avoided as even if he gets on base the struggling Rangers offense (two runs or less in five of last seven) will have problems knocking him in.
Yu Darvish, SPHot4/14/2014 8:48:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Yu Darvish has a cut on his right thumb but expects to make his next start on Wednsday against the Mariners. SOURCE: foxsportssouthwest.com
Insight: He cut the thumb with his index finger while throwing a curveball during his last start. "Even when I was throwing it didn't hurt me," said Darvish. "I've done this so many times that probably the nerve isn't working anymore so it didn't hurt me at all." Darvish has a 0.00 ERA and a 0.67 WHIP in two starts this season.
Colby Lewis, SP4/14/2014 5:59:00 PM
Description: The Rangers have called up Colby Lewis from Triple-A for Monday's start against the Mariners.
Insight: Lewis hasn't pitched since July 2012 due to Tommy John and hip surgeries. He was 32-29 with a 3.93 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and 458 Ks in 506 1/3 innings from 2010-12.
Martin Perez, SP4/13/2014 9:05:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Martin Perez gave up just five hits (all singles) over eight scoreless innings Sunday against Houston to improve to 2-0.
Insight: Houston didn't have a runner reach second base due in large part to four GIDPs. The 23-year-old Perez has good upside and should be owned in 12-team mixed leagues.
Adrian Beltre, 3B4/13/2014 3:59:00 PM
Description: According to Richard Durrett of espndallas.com, the Rangers have placed Adrian Beltre on the 15-day disabled list with a strained quad.
Insight: The move was backdated to April 9, so Beltre can come off the DL on April 24. It's a Grade 1 strain so he should be able to return when he's first eligible.
Colby Lewis, SP4/13/2014 1:28:00 PM
Description: If Sunday's game against the Astros goes on as planned, right-hander Colby Lewis will start Monday versus Seattle. SOURCE: Richard Durrett, ESPN Dallas
Insight: He was sent to Triple-A Round Rock after failing to make the team out of spring training. Adrian Beltre is likely to be placed on the 15-day disabled list in the corresponding roster move.
Adrian Beltre, 3B4/12/2014 6:23:00 PM
Description: According to Anthony Andro of Fox Sports Southwest, the Rangers are leaning toward placing third baseman Adrian Beltre on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: A quad strain has kept him out since Tuesday. If Texas makes the move retroactively, Beltre (.286, 0 HR, 4 RBI) could be eligible to return as early as April 25th against the Mariners.
Adrian Beltre, 3B4/12/2014 6:00:00 PM
Description: The Rangers will again be without third baseman Adrian Beltre Saturday against Houston. SOURCE: Dallas Morning News
Insight: It's his third absence in a row after suffering a quad strain earlier this week against the Red Sox. Kevin Kouzmanoff (.400, 0 HR, 0 RBI) is filling in at third base.
Yu Darvish, SPHot4/11/2014 10:46:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Yu Darvish tossed eight innings of one-hit baseball Friday against the Astros but took a no decision.
Insight: Darvish nearly had a no-hitter a couple of times against the Astros last year and took a perfect game into the sixth inning Friday, but Texas didn't score off Scott Feldman. Darvish has a 0.00 ERA and a 15/2 K/BB in 15 innings this season.
Shin-Soo Choo, LF4/11/2014 9:52:00 AM
Description: Texas left fielder Shin-Soo Choo is just 1-for-13 (.077) against Houston starter Scott Feldman.
Insight: Choo is doing what he does best - get on base. He's batting .355 with seven walks for a .475 on base percentage. Friday, however, is a tough matchup.
Adrian Beltre, 3B4/10/2014 8:09:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre has a Grade 1 quad strain, which is the least severe one. SOURCE: Dallas Morning News
Insight: The Rangers pushed back Colby Lewis' promotion from Saturday to Monday or Tuesday so they can keep Beltre, two backup infielders and seven relievers on the active roster to give Beltre a few more days to get healthy before they place him on the DL.
Colby Lewis, SP4/10/2014 8:06:00 PM
Description: The Rangers have pushed back the callup of starter Colby Lewis by at least two days to Monday or Tuesday so they have more time to make a decision on Adrian Beltre (quad). SOURCE: Dallas Morning News
Insight: Lewis has missed the past season and a half due to elbow and hip surgeries and was expected to make his 2014 debut on Saturday, but the team wants to see how Beltre's sore quad responds before it has to place him on the DL.
Adrian Beltre, 3B4/9/2014 12:34:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre won't be in the lineup Wednesday against Boston. SOURCE: John Blake, Rangers VP of Communications
Insight: Beltre will head back to Texas to have his quad looked at. Josh Wilson (.455, 0 HR, 3 RBI) will continue to fill in at third base.
Shin-Soo Choo, LFHot4/8/2014 9:25:00 PM
Description: Texas left fielder Shin-Soo Choo got on base four times in Tuesday night's win against the Red Sox.
Insight: That's what the Rangers got him for. Choo has been an on base machine throughout his career (.389 career OBP) and so far he's done nothing to change that reputation this season (.444 OBP in four games). He's batting .467 during his current four-game hitting streak.
Adrian Beltre, 3B4/8/2014 7:56:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre left Tuesday's game in the fourth inning because of quad tightness. SOURCE: TR Sullivan, MLB.com
Insight: He went 2-for-3 with a couple RBI before exiting. Beltre was DHing tonight so Josh Wilson (.500, 0 HR, 3 RBI) will remain at third base.
Leonys Martin, CF4/8/2014 4:20:00 PM
Description: Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin will get Tuesday off. Michael Choice will start in his place.
Insight: Martin has hit .240 with a couple of stolen bases in seven games this season, but is hitless in his last three games (11 at-bats). Given a full season he should hit 10-12 homers and steal 40 bases which certainly has fantasy value.
Colby Lewis, SP4/8/2014 4:15:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Colby Lewis is expected to start on Saturday, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Lewis has missed the past season and a half due to elbow and hip surgeries. He will take over for injured Joe Saunders.
Prince Fielder, 1B4/8/2014 10:19:00 AM
Description: Rangers 1B Prince Fielder appears to be pressing early in the season and is batting just .148 without a home run.
Insight: Fielder has been chasing a few pitches out of the strike zone of late, but that will eventually stop. His Tuesday matchup, however, is unfavorable and he should be avoided. He's 0-for-6 against Boston left-hander Felix Doubront.
Yu Darvish, SP4/6/2014 6:14:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Yu Darvish was phenomenal Sunday in a win against Tampa Bay.
Insight: In his season debut, Darvish limited the Rays to seven hits and one walk over seven scoreless frames. His next start is scheduled for Saturday versus Houston.
Alex Rios, RFHot4/5/2014 10:28:00 AM
Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios is a career .407 hitter with six extra base hits and a 1.281 OPS versus Rays left-hander David Price.
Insight: Rios is batting .400 this season and has a favorable matchup.
Yu Darvish, SP4/3/2014 8:57:00 PM
Description: Texas ace Yu Darvish will make his 2014 debut Sunday versus Tampa Bay. SOURCE: Anthony Andro, Fox Sports Southwest
Insight: He missed Opening Day because of neck stiffness. Darvish allowed two runs in five innings in his only start against the Rays last season.
Matt Harrison, SP4/1/2014 7:34:00 PM
Description: Rangers left-hander Matt Harrison will start for Double-A Frisco Thursday, according to Richard Durrett of espndallas.com.
Insight: Harrison has been bothered by tightness in his neck and back after sleeping on a soft mattress in February. He underwent two back surgeries as well as thoracic outlet syndrome surgery last season and missed most of the year. Harrison will need a few more minor league starts before he's able to rejoin the rotation.
Yu Darvish, SP4/1/2014 6:08:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Yu Darvish (neck) threw 86 pitches in a bullpen session Tuesday, according to Anthony Andro of foxsportssouthwest.com.
Insight: Darvish was scratched from Opening Day and placed on the disabled list due to a stiff neck. If he has no discomfort Wednesday, he'll most likely start this weekend when he's first eligible to return.
Alex Rios, RF3/31/2014 9:24:00 PM
Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI on Opening Day.
Insight: Rios has hit .291 with an average of 22 homers, 86 RBI, 88 runs and 32 steals over the past two seasons. He should enjoy hitting in the Rangers' high-octane lineup for a full season after spending 109 of his 156 games with the White Sox last year.
Adrian Beltre, 3B3/31/2014 12:06:00 PM
Description: Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre can't be counted on Monday against Phillies ace Cliff Lee.
Insight: Beltre has connected on just four hits in 32 lifetime at bats against the left-hander. It's going to be awful hard to convince fantasy owners not to start him on Opening Day but Beltre (.315, 30 HR, 92 RBI) is not a strong option with Lee going for Philadelphia.
Yu Darvish, SP3/30/2014 5:30:00 PM
Description: The Rangers have placed Yu Darvish (neck) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21.
Insight: Darvish didn't respond to treatment on his stiff neck and was scratched from his Opening Day start, though his MRI revealed no structural damage. The right-hander threw a 32-pitch bullpen session Sunday and had no physical issues, according to Richard Durrett of ESPN Dallas. He'll resume a throwing program Tuesday and should be ready to start next weekend.
Scott Baker, SP3/28/2014 8:16:00 PM
Description: The Rangers made their minor-league pact with Scott Baker official on Friday.
Insight: Baker was released by the Mariners on Monday. Texas had some injuries to their rotation and needed depth.
Colby Lewis, SP3/28/2014 6:23:00 PM
Description: According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers are expected to start Colby Lewis April 11 against the Astros.
Insight: Lewis went 32-29 with a 3.93 ERA and 458 Ks in 506 1/3 innings from 2010 to July 2012 before missing the last season and a half due to elbow and hip surgeries. He turned around a horrible spring with five scoreless frames Wednesday against the Mariners. Lewis will have fantasy value in deep mixed leagues when he's recalled.
Chris Young, SP3/27/2014 9:30:00 PM
Description: The Mariners signed RHP Chris Young to a one-year contract on Thursday. He'll immediately join the M's rotation as the No. 4 starter.
Insight: He was released by the Nationals on Tuesday. The oft-injured Young didn't pitch in the majors last season and gave up four earned runs with nine Ks in 10 1/3 innings this spring. Young has a career 3.79 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP, but he's thrown only 337 1/3 innings in the big leagues since 2008 because of multiple shoulder issues and thoracic outlet syndrome.
Elvis Andrus, SS3/27/2014 8:49:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus (elbow soreness) hasn't played the field since March 17 but says he'll be ready to play on Opening Day, according to mlb.com.
Insight: Andrus has dealt with elbow discomfort since the beginning of spring training. He hit .271 with four homers, 67 RBI, 91 runs and 42 steals last season, including .313 after the All-Star break.
Colby Lewis, SP3/27/2014 8:47:00 PM
Description: According to mlb.com, Rangers manager Ron Washington said Colby Lewis is "very close" to being ready to join the rotation.
Insight: Lewis went 32-29 with a 3.93 ERA and 458 Ks in 506 1/3 innings from 2010 to July 2012 before missing the last season and a half due to elbow and hip surgeries. Lewis turned around a horrible spring with five scoreless frames Wednesday against the Mariners. He'll have fantasy value in deep mixed leagues when he's recalled.
Geovany Soto, C3/26/2014 8:22:00 PM
Description: Rangers catcher Geovany Soto had surgery to repair his torn meniscus on Wednesday. SOURCE: Anthony Andro, Fox Sports Southwest
Insight: Soto won't be back until June at the earliest. If Texas decides to play it safe, he could be out until the All-Star break. J.P. Arencibia will see as many at bats as he can handle in the meantime.
Tommy Hanson, SP3/26/2014 2:43:00 PM
Description: The Rangers have released Tommy Hanson rather than guaranteeing his $500,000 salary (which would have grown to $2 million on Opening Day), according to the Dallas Morning News.
Insight: Hanson signed a minor league deal with Texas in the offseason and put up a 6.43 ERA in 14 innings this spring. Hanson was very good his first three years in the majors, going 32-22 with a 3.28 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP, but he went 17-13 with a 4.76 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP the last two seasons. It's evidence of how far he has fallen that he was unable to crack the Rangers depleted rotation over Joe Saunders or Robbie Ross.
Nick Martinez, SP3/26/2014 2:34:00 PM
Description: According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, Nick Martinez will start the Rangers' fifth game of the season on April 8.
Insight: The Rangers had to move everyone up a spot due to Yu Darvish's neck stiffness. Martinez has only thrown 32 innings above Single-A and none above Double-A. He has posted a 3.30 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP in 327 1/3 minor league innings. Darvish doesn't have structural damage in his neck so Texas may only need Martinez for one start.
Robbie Ross, RP3/26/2014 2:28:00 PM
Description: According to the Dallas Morning News, Robbie Ross will start Texas' third game of the season.
Insight: Yu Darvish (neck) was scratched from his Opening Day start and will be replaced by Tanner Scheppers. Neither Scheppers nor Ross has made a start in the majors. Ross had a 2.62 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP the last two seasons in 127 1/3 innings. The Rangers seemingly convert more relievers into starters than any other team.
Tanner Scheppers, RP3/26/2014 2:22:00 PM
Description: Rangers right-hander Tanner Scheppers' first MLB start will come on Opening Day against the Phillies, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
Insight: Yu Darvish was scratched with neck stiffness. Scheppers had a 1.88 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP and 59 Ks in 76 2/3 innings as Texas' set-up man last season, and he earned a spot in the rotation this spring.
Yu Darvish, SP3/26/2014 2:03:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Yu Darvish has no structural damage in his neck, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Fantasy owners can breath a long sigh of relief. Darvish was sent back to Texas Wednesday for tests after his stiff neck did not respond to treatment. He won't pitch on Opening Day, but he'll play catch Saturday and may not need a DL stint.
Elvis Andrus, SS3/25/2014 10:59:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus (elbow soreness) had a "lengthy and productive" throwing session Tuesday morning, according to T.R. Sullivan of mlb.com.
Insight: Andrus is in the middle of a seven-day throwing program after dealing with elbow discomfort since the beginning of spring training. Andrus (.271, 4 HR, 67 RBI, 42 SB in 2013) is still hoping to play Opening Day against the Phillies.
Tommy Hanson, SP3/25/2014 7:10:00 PM
Description: According to T.R. Sullivan of mlb.com, the Rangers have to decide by Wednesday if they are going to guarantee Tommy Hanson's contract.
Insight: Hanson signed a minor league deal with Texas in the offseason and owns a 6.43 ERA in 14 innings this spring. Hanson was very good his first three years in the majors, going 32-22 with a 3.28 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP, but he went 17-13 with a 4.76 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP the last two seasons.
Colby Lewis, SPCold3/25/2014 7:06:00 PM
Description: Colby Lewis will not be on the active roster for Opening Day, according to T.R. Sullivan of mlb.com.
Insight: Lewis went 32-29 with a 3.93 ERA and 458 Ks in 506 1/3 innings from 2010 to July 2012 before undergoing Tommy John surgery. He also had hip surgery last year and missed all of 2013. In four innings this spring, Lewis walked six and gave up eight hits and eight earned runs.
Neftali Feliz, RP3/25/2014 5:13:00 PM
Description: The Rangers optioned Neftali Feliz to Triple-A on Tuesday.
Insight: Feliz lost the closer role to Joakim Soria and will work on his mechanics and arm strength in the minors. He had Tommy John surgery in 2012 and has dealt with decreased velocity this spring.
Yu Darvish, SP3/25/2014 5:05:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Yu Darvish will not start Opening Day due to a stiff neck, according to T.R. Sullivan of mlb.com.
Insight: Darvish is being sent to Texas for further examinations. The Rangers are concerned that the right-hander has additional issues besides a stiff neck.
Yu Darvish, SP3/24/2014 3:47:00 PM
Description: Yu Darvish has been dealing with a sore neck and it could cost him his Opening Day assignment.
Insight: Darvish (13-9, 2.83 ERA) was a strikeout machine posting 277 last season and the ace of many fantasy staffs. This is just a bump in the road and shouldn't change his season-long fantasy value.
J.P. Arencibia, C3/24/2014 12:22:00 PM
Description: Rangers backup catcher J.P. Arencibia will have to do a majority of the work behind the plate for the next 2-3 months with Geovany Soto sidelined by a torn lateral meniscus.
Insight: Arencibia has the power to put up solid home run totals, but he struggles to consistenly put the bat on the ball. He struck out 148 times in 474 at-bats last season for Toronto.
Geovany Soto, C3/24/2014 12:18:00 PM
Description: Texas catcher Geovany Soto has a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Insight: The plan was for Soto to split time behind the plate with J.P. Arencibia (.194, 21 HR, 55 RBI in 2013), but now it will be Arencibia backed up by Robinson Chirinos for the next 10-to-12 weeks.
Joe Saunders, SPCold3/23/2014 8:00:00 PM
Description: Texas starter Joe Saunders got lit up Sunday against the Padres.
Insight: Saunders was tagged for eight hits and nine runs in 1 1/3 innings, though only four of the runs were earned. Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram says Saunders is dealing with a dead arm and it's unknown if he'll be able to make his next start. We don't have high expectations for Saunders this season.
Jurickson Profar, 2B3/23/2014 6:35:00 PM
Description: Texas second baseman Jurickson Profar has been diagnosed with a torn shoulder muscle. He'll be out for the next 10-to-12 weeks. SOURCE: Dennis Lin, San Diego Union-Tribune
Insight: Where's Ian Kinsler when you need him? With Profar out of the picture, the Rangers will probably turn to Adam Rosales (.190, 5 HR, 12 RBI) at second base. Free agent infielder Stephen Drew could also be an option for Texas.
Geovany Soto, C3/23/2014 6:13:00 PM
Description: Texas catcher Geovany Soto has a torn lateral meniscus of the right knee, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Insight: The plan was for Soto to split time behind the plate with J.P. Arencibia (.194, 21 HR, 55 RBI in 2013), but now it will be Arencibia backed up by Robinson Chirinos for the next 2-3 months.
Jurickson Profar, 2B3/23/2014 3:32:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Jurickson Profar was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to a sore shoulder, according to T.R. Sullivan of mlb.com.
Insight: Profar has been dealing with tendinitis in his shoulder for most of spring training. The 20-year-old was considered the top prospect in baseball going into 2013 but hit just .234 with a .644 OPS in 85 games. He's expected to start at second base this season after Ian Kinsler was traded to the Tigers, but may not be ready for Opening Day.
Tanner Scheppers, RP3/22/2014 5:31:00 PM
Description: The Rangers have announced that Tanner Scheppers has unseated Alexi Ogando from the rotation, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Scheppers was Texas' set-up man last season and had a 1.88 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP and 59 Ks in 76 2/3 innings. Texas has had plenty of success moving relievers into the starting rotation in recent years. Ogando will shift back to the bullpen and serve as Joakim Soria's set-up man.
Joakim Soria, RP3/22/2014 5:22:00 PM
Description: The Rangers named Joakim Soria the team's closer on Saturday, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Soria beat out Neftali Feliz, who has struggled with his mechanics while working his way back from Tommy John surgery. Soria had a 2.40 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP and 160 saves from 2007-11 with the Royals before he needed Tommy John surgery and missed all of 2012. He could end up being a top-10 closer in 2014.
Elvis Andrus, SS3/21/2014 9:38:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus won't be on the field for at least another week. SOURCE: Evan Grant, Dallas Morning News
Insight: He's been dealing with elbow tightness, though a recent MRI ruled out any structural damage. Andrus (.271, 4 HR, 67 RBI, 42 SB in 2013) is still hoping to play Opening Day against the Phillies.
Alexi Ogando, SP3/19/2014 3:10:00 PM
Description: The Rangers are looking for a long reliever, and Alexi Ogando may "win" the job by default after struggling this spring. SOURCE: mlb.com
Insight: Ogando has allowed 11 runs in 6 1/3 innings his last two starts and is no longer a lock for the rotation. Yu Darvish and Martin Perez are locked into the top two spots, but the final three spots are up in the air. Ogando, Joe Saunders, Tommy Hanson, Colby Lewis, Tanner Scheppers and Robbie Ross are competing for them, and Matt Harrison will also be in the mix when he's ready to return from multiple back surgeries.
Elvis Andrus, SS3/18/2014 9:21:00 PM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus downplayed the severity of his elbow soreness on Tuesday, but he'll be shut down from throwing for three days and be reevaluated on Friday, according to T.R. Sullivan of mlb.com.
Insight: "I feel good," Andrus said, according to the Dallas Morning News. "There was a little tightness there, but there is nothing to worry about. I'm good." The Rangers shortstop has been dealing with nagging tightness in his elbow this spring.
Elvis Andrus, SS3/18/2014 7:48:00 PM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus says the severity of his elbow tightness has been exaggerated, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
Insight: Andrus wasn't even aware he had been scratched from Tuesday's lineup until hours after the fact. "I feel good," he said. "There was a little tightness there, but there is nothing to worry about. I'm good."
Adrian Beltre, 3B3/18/2014 6:32:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre (quad) expects to play Thursday, according to T.R. Sullivan of mlb.com.
Insight: Beltre left a game last Thursday with quad tightness. The third baseman has averaged 149 games, .314/.358/.545, 32 homers, 100 RBI and 87 runs per season the last four years (one with Boston, three with Texas). However, he has dealt with some leg issues the last couple of seasons and is now 34, so there's some risk involved if you're taking him at his ADP of 14.2.
Mitch Moreland, 1B3/18/2014 6:27:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland is out with tightness in his left oblique muscle, according to Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News.
Insight: Moreland is in danger of missing the start of the regular season on March 31 against the Phillies. The 28-year-old is expected to serve as the Rangers' primary DH this season after batting .232 with 23 homers, 60 RBI and a .736 OPS in 147 games last season.
Elvis Andrus, SS3/18/2014 6:26:00 PM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus is still dealing with soreness in his right arm, according to T.R. Sullivan of mlb.com.
Insight: He was scratched from Tuesday's lineup and will sit out a couple days. He has been dealing with flexor tendinitis and hasn't been able to throw at 100 percent during camp.
Adrian Beltre, 3B3/14/2014 9:18:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre took batting practice Friday after leaving Thursday's game with quad tightness, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Beltre isn't likely to play Saturday but may be back Sunday. The third baseman has averaged 149 games, .314/.358/.545, 32 homers, 100 RBI and 87 runs per season the last four years (one with Boston, three with Texas). However, he has dealt with some leg issues the last couple of seasons and is now 34, so there's some risk involved if you're taking him at his ADP of 14.
Adrian Beltre, 3B3/14/2014 5:33:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre left Thursday's game with tightness in his left quad but isn't expected to be out long, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: After averaging 143 games, .266/.317/.442, 21 home runs, 79 RBI and 74 runs per season from 2005-09 with the Mariners, Beltre has averaged 149 games, .314/.358/.545, 32 homers, 100 RBI and 87 runs the last four years (one with Boston, three with Texas). However, he has dealt with some leg issues the last couple of seasons and is now 34, so there's some risk involved if you're taking him at his ADP of 14.
Neftali Feliz, RP3/14/2014 1:55:00 PM
Description: Rangers manager Ron Washington said Neftali Feliz was throwing better, around 93-94 mph, in Thursday's exhibition.
Insight: Neftali Feliz has struggled this spring and isn't throwing anywhere near the high 90s he was at before the Tommy John surgery. Feliz and Joakim Soria are candidates to pitch the ninth inning in 2014 which will make it tough on fantasy owners. Setup man Tanner Scheppers could also end up in the role.
Shin-Soo Choo, LF3/13/2014 8:45:00 PM
Description: Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo had an anti-inflammatory injection in his elbow on Thursday, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
Insight: Choo began experiencing minor elbow pain a week ago and it has lingered. He felt more soreness after making a throw home from left field on Wednesday and served as the designated hitter Thursday. "This happens every spring training," he said. "It’s the same problem, the same pain. Normally, it takes about 10 days, I take medicine. I DH. I get treatment. It makes it better."
Jurickson Profar, 2B3/13/2014 5:23:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Jurickson Profar will be sidelined for three-to-five days after having his wisdom teeth removed, according to mlb.com.
Insight: Profar still hasn't played the field due to shoulder tendinitis, but the Rangers think he has enough time to be ready for Opening Day. The 20-year-old was considered the top prospect in baseball going into 2013 but hit just .234 with a .644 OPS in 85 games. He's expected to start at second base this season after Ian Kinsler was traded to the Tigers.
Neftali Feliz, RP3/12/2014 11:26:00 AM
Description: Rangers manager Ron Washington is talking about using a closer by committee. SOURCE: Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Insight: Neftali Feliz's struggles this spring have made things complicated. Feliz, Joakim Soria and Tanner Schepper are all candidates to pitch the ninth inning in 2014. Fantasy owners should look elsewhere for saves.
Matt Harrison, SP3/11/2014 3:49:00 PM
Description: Rangers left-hander Matt Harrison threw a scoreless inning on Tuesday, needing just 11 pitches to set down the Royals.
Insight: Harrison has been bothered by stiffness in his neck and back. He missed most of last season after undergoing back surgery. Harrison isn't likely to be ready for the start of the season, but should be back in mid-to-late April.
Matt Harrison, SP3/7/2014 8:26:00 PM
Description: The Rangers expect lefthander Matt Harrison to begin the year on the DL. SOURCE: Gerry Fraley, Dallas Morning News
Insight: Harrison has been bothered by stiffness in his neck and back. He missed most of last season after undergoing back surgery so this probably isn't a good sign. Harrison's injury could open up a spot in the rotation for Joe Saunders (11-16, 5.26 ERA).
Alex Rios, RF3/6/2014 2:26:00 PM
Description: Right fielder Alex Rios has suffered a mild right oblique strain.
Insight: Rios will likely sit out a week or two and could be a little behind when the regular season begins. He's a quiet fantasy star who contributes to all categories (.278, 18 HR, 83 runs, 81 RBI, 42 SB in 2013), but rarely gets a lot of attention.
Elvis Andrus, SS3/5/2014 1:22:00 PM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus (forearm) returned to the lineup Wednesday, according to Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News.
Insight: Andrus has been dealing with flexor tendinitis. The shortstop hit .313 with four home runs, 36 RBI, 41 runs, 23 steals and a .774 OPS in the second half last season after batting .242 with a .580 OPS before the break.
Joe Saunders, SP3/5/2014 10:37:00 AM
Description: The Rangers have finalized a one-year contract with lefty Joe Saunders.
Insight: The Rangers needed some starting pitching depth with Matt Harrison coming back from back surgery, Derek Holland out until midseason following microfracture knee surgery and Alexi Ogando presenting a health risk. Saunders had a 1.60 WHIP and gave up 25 homers in 183 innings for Seattle last season. That's not a good combination, especially now that he'll be pitching at Rangers Ballpark instead of Safeco Field.
Joe Saunders, SP3/4/2014 6:26:00 PM
Description: Former Angels and Diamondbacks lefthander Joe Saunders is close to signing with Texas. SOURCE: Evan Grant, Dallas Morning News
Insight: It sounds like Saunders will receive a major league contract. The Rangers struggled with pitching last season (4.31 ERA was 26th in MLB) but we don't think Saunders (11-16, 5.26 ERA for Seattle in 2013) is the answer.
Neftali Feliz, RP3/2/2014 4:51:00 PM
Description: According to the Dallas Morning News, Rangers reliever Neftali Feliz is dealing with mechanical issues. He's not getting his arm extended enough to maximize his velocity.
Insight: Feliz underwent Tommy John surgery in August 2012 and only threw 4 2/3 innings last season. He saved 72 games with a 2.73 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP in 2010-11 before the team turned him into a starter in 2012, and the Rangers have him back competing for the closer job this season following his injury. Joakim Soria is the other candidate.
Jurickson Profar, 2B2/26/2014 4:37:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Jurickson Profar (shoulder) has resumed throwing, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
Insight: Profar has been dealing with shoulder tendinitis since the start of camp. The 20-year-old was considered the top prospect in baseball going into 2013 but hit just .234 with a .644 OPS in 85 games. He's expected to start at second base this season after Ian Kinsler was traded to the Tigers.
Yu Darvish, SP2/25/2014 7:58:00 PM
Description: Yu Darvish has already been named the Rangers' Opening Day starter. SOURCE: Richard Durrett, ESPN Dallas
Insight: That means he'll get the start March 31st against Philadelphia. The 277 strikeouts Darvish (13-9, 2.83 ERA) racked up last season were the most we've seen in the majors since 2004. That year, Randy Johnson led the league with 290 K's.
Matt Harrison, SP2/24/2014 7:40:00 PM
Description: Matt Harrison's MRI came back clean. The Texas lefthander has been dealing with lower back stiffness. SOURCE: Richard Durrett, ESPN Dallas
Insight: That's good news for Harrison but he's still a long shot for Opening Day. Fantasy owners need to be very cautious after injuries limited Harrison to just two starts last season.
Jurickson Profar, 2B2/22/2014 7:24:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Jurickson Profar (shoulder) has been cleared to resume swinging a bat, according to Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Geovany Soto, C2/22/2014 12:01:00 PM
Description: Rangers catcher Geovany Soto will have arthroscopic surgery on his left foot on Saturday, according to Anthony Andro of Fox Sports Southwest.
Insight: Soto is expected to sit for three weeks before resuming spring training work. He batted .245 with nine homers and 22 RBI in 54 games last season.
Leonys Martin, CF2/20/2014 11:28:00 AM
Description: Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin is projected to bat ninth in manager Ron Washington's preliminary lineup, according to a Dallas Morning News report.
Insight: Martin hit .260 with eight home runs, 49 RBI, 66 runs, 36 steals last season, but looking deeper into the numbers he knocked in 40 percent of his RBIs from the top spot in just 28 percent of his at-bats. The good news is that his batting average and OPS were higher at the bottom of the order.
Nelson Cruz, RF2/18/2014 8:43:00 PM
Description: The Orioles are trying to make one more big move before Opening Day. That move could be to sign Nelson Cruz to a long-term deal.
Insight: The O's inked righthander Ubaldo Jimenez to a four-year deal yesterday and now appear to be in pursuit of Cruz and Kendrys Morales. According to Fox's Ken Rosenthal, Baltimore prefers the outfielder Cruz over Morales, who mostly functions as a DH.
Jurickson Profar, 2B2/18/2014 12:11:00 PM
Description: It only took one day for optimism to fall by the wayside as Rangers second baseman Jurickson Profar (shoulder) was cleared to start a throwing on Monday and shut down on Tuesday, according to mlblogs.com.
Insight: The 20-year-old was considered the top prospect in baseball last season but hit just .234 with a .644 OPS in 85 games. This isn't the way to bounce back from last season.
Jurickson Profar, 2B2/17/2014 7:26:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Jurickson Profar (shoulder) has been cleared to start a throwing program, according to Anthony Andro of foxsportssouthwest.com.
Insight: Profar has been slowed by tendinitis in his right shoulder and will be on the program for 2-3 weeks. However, he'll still be able to DH in spring training games in the meantime. The 20-year-old was considered the top prospect in baseball last season but hit just .234 with a .644 OPS in 85 games. Hopefully he'll find his way now that he has a guaranteed starting job following the trade of Ian Kinsler for Prince Fielder.
Jurickson Profar, 2B2/12/2014 5:11:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Jurickson Profar will be limited early in spring training with tendinitis in his shoulder, according to Richard Durrett of espndallas.com.
Insight: Profar can do everything but throw, so he'll still be able to work on his hitting which is the only thing fantasy owners care about. The 20-year-old was considered the top prospect in baseball last season but hit just .234 with a .644 OPS in 85 games. Hopefully he'll find his way now that he has a guaranteed starting job following the trade of Ian Kinsler for Prince Fielder.
Tommy Hanson, SP2/10/2014 11:48:00 AM
Description: Righthander Tommy Hanson has agreed to a minor league deal with Texas. SOURCE: MLBlogs
Insight: Hanson was a valued fantasy asset during his tenure with the Braves, but his ERA has risen every year since 2009. He'll have to prove himself before we can recommend him as a fantasy option.
Daniel Bard, RP2/2/2014 11:29:00 AM
Description: Daniel Bard has agreed to a minor league deal with Texas. SOURCE: Peter Gammons, MLB Network
Insight: Bard's fastball used to hit triple-digits on the radar gun but he hasn't been a factor at the big league level since 2011 when he set up Jonathan Papelbon in Boston. Bard is no lock to make the Rangers' Opening Day roster.
Lance Berkman, DH1/29/2014 7:57:00 PM
Description: Lance Berkman has decided it's time to hang up his cleats.
Insight: Berkman hit .293 with a .943 OPS, 422 doubles, 366 homers, 1,234 RBI and 1,146 runs in 1,879 career games. He played 12 seasons in Houston before going to New York, St. Louis and Texas.
Nelson Cruz, RF1/29/2014 3:46:00 PM
Description: The Mariners are emerging as one of the frontrunners to land free agent outfielder Nelson Cruz. SOURCE: Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports
Insight: The M's are also in on free agent closer Fernando Rodney. Seattle made a big splash by adding Robinson Cano but they whiffed on Japanese righthander Masahiro Tanaka, who was probably a little out of their price range. Cruz is a .238 career hitter in 48 games at Safeco Field.
Matt Garza, SP1/23/2014 10:52:00 PM
Description: Updating a previous report, the Brewers and Matt Garza are still in talks and no deal is official yet. SOURCE: Brewers on Twitter
Insight: We imagine the deal will be finalized within the next 24 hours. Fox's Ken Rosenthal was the first to report that Garza had signed with Milwaukee for four years and $52 million. It seems like most teams were waiting to see what happened with Masahiro Tanaka before making any big moves. Now that Tanaka is with New York, we should see a lot of free agent signings in the next week.
Matt Harrison, SP1/21/2014 1:14:00 PM
Description: Rangers LHP Matt Harrison (back) threw a bullpen session and felt fine, according to Anthony Andro of foxsportssouthwest.com
Insight: The lefty underwent two surgical procedures on his back in April and made just two starts all last season - both losses. Harrison had low-end fantasy value in both 2011 (14-9, 3.39 ERA) and 2012 (18-11, 3.29 ERA). It remains to be seen if he can return to that level of consistency.
Derek Holland, SP1/14/2014 10:07:00 PM
Description: Rangers pitcher Derek Holland's knee surgery was a microfracture procedure to repair the cartilage behind his left kneecap, according to Richard Durrett of espndallas.com.
Insight: Holland said he hurt his knee when his dog ran up the stairs and tripped him. The lefty is expected to be out until midseason, though he said he believes he could return sooner than projected.
Derek Holland, SP1/10/2014 9:14:00 PM
Description: Texas lefthander Derek Holland injured his knee at home recently and is out indefinitely. SOURCE: Gerry Fraley, Dallas Morning News
Insight: He had surgery on Friday and could be out until mid-season. Perhaps this will give the Rangers more incentive to make a competitive offer to free agent starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka.
Nelson Cruz, RF1/5/2014 10:08:00 PM
Description: With the market quickly drying up for Nelson Cruz, it's possible the former Rangers outfielder will accept a one-year deal and pursue a long-term contract next offseason. SOURCE: Boston Globe
Insight: Cruz was originally hoping for something in the four-year, $75 million range but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. The 33-year-old's market value certainly took a hit after he was suspended 50 games last season for the use of performance enhancing drugs.
Neftali Feliz, RP12/28/2013 1:42:00 PM
Description: According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan, Rangers righthander Neftali Feliz is the favorite to replace Joe Nathan in the ninth inning next season.
Insight: Feliz was trying to become a starter but he only lasted seven starts before needing Tommy John surgery. Feliz was an All-Star closer for Texas in 2010 and could be again if he can stay healthy.
Shin-Soo Choo, CF12/21/2013 5:31:00 PM
Description: According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, outfielder Shin-Soo Choo's deal with Texas is for seven years and $130 million.
Insight: Choo turned down a $140 million contract with the Yankees, but the Texas deal is more favorable because the state has no income tax. The 31-year-old hit .285 with a .423 on-base percentage, 21 homers, 20 steals and 107 runs with Cincinnati last season and should duplicate those numbers as Ian Kinsler's replacement at the top of the Rangers' batting order. Choo's contract also means Nelson Cruz will not be returning to Texas.
Shin-Soo Choo, CF12/21/2013 2:18:00 PM
Description: According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, outfielder Shin-Soo Choo has agreed to a deal with the Texas Rangers.
Insight: Choo will take the place of Ian Kinsler at the top of the Texas lineup and with Prince Fielder and Adrian Beltre to knock him in, he should easily score 100 runs.
J.P. Arencibia, C12/6/2013 1:36:00 PM
Description: J.P. Arencibia has signed a one-year, $1.8 million deal with Texas.
Insight: Arencibia's power should play well in Texas but he's not going to be a factor in fantasy as Geovany Soto is set to be the team's starter behind the plate.
Colby Lewis, SP11/23/2013 5:26:00 PM
Description: Righthander Colby Lewis has agreed to a minor league deal with Texas. SOURCE: Dallas Morning News
Insight: He wasn't able to play last season because of hip and elbow ailments. Don't be surprised if the 34-year-old carves out a spot for himself at the back end of the Rangers' starting rotation.
Prince Fielder, 1B11/20/2013 8:40:00 PM
Description: According to cbssports.com's Jon Heyman, the Tigers and Rangers have agreed to swap Prince Fielder for Ian Kinsler, pending physicals. Fielder also has to waive his limited no-trade clause that includes Texas, but he's expected to do so.
Insight: Fielder is coming off a down year in which he hit .279 with 25 homers, 106 RBI and an .819 OPS. He's signed for another seven years. Historically, Rangers Ballpark in Arlington has been a much better park for hitters than Comerica Park but it wasn't last season according to MLB Park Factors.
Joe Nathan, RP11/16/2013 11:12:00 AM
Description: The Yankees have been in touch with reliever Joe Nathan about closing for them next season. SOURCE: Andy McCullough, Newark Star-Ledger
Insight: The Tigers are also in need of a closer, though it sounds like Detroit may end up going with Brian Wilson, who is seven years younger than Nathan. The righthander has struggled in four career appearances at the new Yankee Stadium (7.36 ERA in 3 2/3 IP).
Matt Garza, SP11/12/2013 7:44:00 PM
Description: A return to Texas seems unlikely for free agent righthander Matt Garza.
Insight: The Rangers' mid-season acquisition of Garza was always thought of as a rental and now Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram is confirming what we already believed. San Francisco has been linked to Garza in recent days though plenty of other teams should come out of the woodwork as the winter rolls on.
Nelson Cruz, RF11/12/2013 7:38:00 PM
Description: Now that right fielder Nelson Cruz has turned down the Rangers' qualifying offer, Seattle may be his next stop. SOURCE: Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports
Insight: Several teams are interested but the Mariners will certainly be one of the frontrunners. Cruz is hoping to land at least a five-year deal. It will be interesting to see if Cruz's PED suspension this past summer has any impact on his negotiations.
A.J. Pierzynski, C11/10/2013 3:15:00 PM
Description: According to WEEI's Rob Bradford, the Red Sox have checked in on free agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski.
Insight: The veteran had a strong year for Texas in 2013 (.272, 17 HR, 70 RBI in 134 games). Pierzynski would be an upgrade over Jarrod Saltalamacchia, a below average defensive catcher who strikes out at an extremely high rate.
Ian Kinsler, 2B11/9/2013 9:55:00 PM
Description: According to Fox's Ken Rosenthal, the Rangers are likely to trade one of their middle infielders this offseason.
Insight: Jurickson Profar is ready to see regular at bats, which means either Ian Kinsler or Elvis Andrus will be shopped over the winter. Kinsler has hit .273 with 156 HR and 539 RBI in 1,066 games for the Rangers since 2006.
Nelson Cruz, RF11/8/2013 10:38:00 AM
Description: Texas Rangers free agent right fielder Nelson Cruz is expected to turn down the team's qualifying offer and check out the open market.
Insight: Cruz (.269, 27 HR, 76 RBI) has always played in a hitter's park and in a well-stocked lineup so most of the places he might end up signing with will likely hurt his fantasy value.
Martin Perez, SP11/7/2013 10:39:00 PM
Description: The Rangers signed Martin Perez to a four-year contract extension with club options for 2018, 2019 and 2020.
Insight: Perez has been one of Texas' top prospects for several years and finally made a big impact in the big leagues this season. He went 10-6 with a 3.62 ERA in 124 1/3 innings and will be in the rotation next season.
Geovany Soto, C11/5/2013 8:33:00 PM
Description: The Rangers and catcher Geovany Soto have agreed to a one-year, $3.05 million contract. SOURCE: Richard Durrett, ESPN Dallas
Insight: Soto hit .245 with nine homers and 22 RBI in a part-time roll with Texas in 2013. He could be the team's Opening Day starter if the Rangers are unable to retain A.J. Pierzynski in free agency.
Joe Nathan, RP10/19/2013 10:29:00 AM
Description: The expectation is that Rangers closer Joe Nathan will decline his $9.5 million option for next season. SOURCE: MLBlogs
Insight: Nathan has been angling for a long-term deal but we're not sure the Rangers will go for that because of his age (he turns 39 in November). Joakim Soria and Neftali Feliz would both be options to close if Nathan signs elsewhere.
Nelson Cruz, RF9/30/2013 7:07:00 PM
Description: Texas right fielder Nelson Cruz is back in the lineup after missing the last 50 games due to a PED suspension.
Insight: He'll DH and bat sixth. Cruz (.269, 27 HR, 76 RBI) has managed only one hit versus the Rays this season (ten at bats).
Alex Rios, RF9/30/2013 9:46:00 AM
Description: Right fielder Alex Rios is a career .435 hitter (10-for-23) with two homers and seven RBI against Rays left-hander David Price.
Insight: Rios' OPS was down almost 100 points from the previous season, but in a one-game situation you have to go with the favorable matchup and this is one of them.
Nelson Cruz, RF9/30/2013 9:41:00 AM
Description: Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz (50-game PED suspension) is expected to be activated and added to the Rangers' roster for Monday's tiebreaker game, according to Texas general manager Jon Daniels.
Insight: Cruz played in 108 games this season, batting .269 with 27 HR and 76 RBI, but his last live action was Aug 4. On the other hand, Cruz is a career .500 hitter (6-for-12) with a pair of homers versus Monday's starter David Price.
Ian Kinsler, 2B9/27/2013 9:50:00 AM
Description: Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler is a .500 lifetime hitter against Angels starter C.J. Wilson with four extra base hits and a 1.516 OPS.
Insight: The second baseman has just four home runs in 64 games after the All-Star break. What happened to the days of him hitting 30 homers and stealing 30 bases?
A.J. Pierzynski, C9/26/2013 9:27:00 AM
Description: Texas catcher A.J. Pierzynski is just 1-for-15 (.067) in his career against Angels pitcher Jerome Williams.
Insight: Pierzynski hasn't been as good as he was during a career year in 2012, but with 17 homers and 66 RBI in 129 games he hasn't regressed to his 2010-2011 season averages of eight homers and 52 RBI either. He should be benched Thursday with Williams on the hill, however.
Adrian Beltre, 3BHot9/26/2013 9:25:00 AM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre has hit .417 (10-for-24) with two home runs against Jerome Williams of the Angels, who will start Thursday against Texas.
Insight: Beltre has put together his fourth straight season of top-notch production, hitting .317 with 29 homers, 90 RBI, 85 runs and an .883 OPS. He has averaged .315 with 36 doubles, 31 homers, 100 RBI, 86 runs and a .904 OPS since 2010.
Alexi Ogando, SP9/22/2013 6:56:00 PM
Description: Texas starter Alexi Ogando fanned five in a no-decision Sunday against Kansas City.
Insight: Ogando didn't allow a run, though neither did Royals starter James Shields. Kansas City would eventually win 4-0 on a walkoff grand slam. Ogando (7-4, 2.93 ERA) was extremely efficient on Sunday, tossing just 77 pitches in seven innings.
Ian Kinsler, 2B9/22/2013 10:33:00 AM
Description: Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler is a .188 lifetime hitter against Kansas City's James Shields.
Insight: Kinsler is 6-for-32 against Shields. The second baseman has just five home runs in 87 games since returning from an intercostal strain that cost him a month of action.
Elvis Andrus, SSHot9/22/2013 10:31:00 AM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus is batting .337 with three homers and 20 RBI over his last 23 games and will face Royals starter James Shields Sunday.
Insight: Andrus is 11-for-26 (.423) with two doubles and two triples against Shields and is a must-start Sunday.
Matt Garza, SP9/21/2013 10:18:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Matt Garza pitched into the ninth inning and allowed just one run on five hits Saturday against the Royals.
Insight: Garza entered Saturday with a 4.94 ERA in 71 innings since joining Texas, including a 5.72 ERA over his last nine starts.
Joe Nathan, RP9/21/2013 10:54:00 AM
Description: Joe Nathan is hoping to sign a long-term deal with the Rangers after the season. SOURCE: Rangers.com
Insight: Nathan can choose to opt out of his team option for next year, though it's clear that he'd rather remain in Texas. As well as he's pitched this season, the 38-year-old is unlikely to receive more than a two-year contract at this stage of his career.
Alexi Ogando, SP9/17/2013 10:28:00 PM
Description: Rangers righty Alexi Ogando started Tuesday for the first time since Aug. 13 and threw five solid innings against the Rays.
Insight: Ogando went on the DL with shoulder inflammation for the second time this season in August and returned as a reliever this month. He threw six scoreless innings and allowed one hit out of the bullpen and limited Tampa Bay to two hits and one run Tuesday. He should remain in the rotation going forward.
Ian Kinsler, 2B9/17/2013 10:21:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI Tuesday at Tampa Bay.
Insight: Kinsler has hit a total of five home runs in 83 games since returning from an intercostal strain in mid-June and has 12 to go with 14 steals in 123 games. He was a 30-30 guy just two years ago.
Elvis Andrus, SS9/17/2013 10:17:00 PM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus' home run Tuesday was his third of the season.
Insight: Andrus has averaged slightly more than three home runs per season during his five-year major league career. The shortstop went 2-for-3 with three RBI Tuesday and has hit .320 with 31 runs, 30 RBI and 21 steals since the All-Star break.
Lance Berkman, DH9/15/2013 1:18:00 PM
Description: Lance Berkman will make the start at DH Sunday against Oakland.
Insight: It's Berkman's first start in almost two weeks. He's pulling a reverse Victorino which means he'll only be batting from the left side of the plate the rest of the season.
Yu Darvish, SP9/14/2013 8:31:00 PM
Description: Rangers ace Yu Darvish just can't seem to catch a break. He was handed another loss Saturday despite allowing just one run in seven innings against Oakland.
Insight: He's now lost four straight decisions. Darvish (12-9, 2.79 ERA) has been on the wrong end of an incredible four 1-0 games this season. Three of those games have come over the last month and a half, which is about how long Texas has been without its best hitter Nelson Cruz (he's serving a 50-game PED suspension). Maybe Darvish's luck will change in his next start Thursday against Kansas City.
Elvis Andrus, SS9/13/2013 10:33:00 AM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus is hitless in 12 at-bats versus Oakland starter Dan Straily.
Insight: Andrus (.266, 2 HR, 56 RBI, 77 runs, 39 SB) has played much better since the All-Star break, batting .324 over the past 46 games. This, however, in an ugly matchup.
Ian Kinsler, 2B9/13/2013 10:00:00 AM
Description: Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler is is probable for Friday's game against Oakland while dealing with a sore back.
Insight: Kinsler was the DH on Wednesday. His average is slightly up over the past two seasons, but the rest of his numbers are below expectations (.273, 11 HR, 61 RBI, 70 runs, 13 SB).
Matt Garza, SP9/11/2013 10:14:00 PM
Description: In 10 starts with the Texas Rangers, Matt Garza has a 4.45 ERA.
Insight: He lasted just four innings Wednesday against Pittsburgh and allowed three runs on four hits with four walks and six strikeouts. His biggest issue with the Rangers has been the longball; he has given up 10 of them in 66 2/3 innings.
Jim Adduci, CF9/11/2013 9:32:00 AM
Description: Texas outfielder Jim Adduci missed Tuesday's game against Pittsburgh with a strained right biceps.
Insight: The September call up is batting .300 in 10 at-bats, but with very little power (.664 OPS) and has little fantasy value.
Yu Darvish, SP9/10/2013 10:43:00 AM
Description: Texas starter Yu Darvish left Monday's game due to cramping in his right leg, but it should not effect his next start.
Insight: Darvish (12-8, 2.84 ERA) has now gone almost a month since his last victory (August 12th against Houston). He pitched well though, yielding just four hits and one run to the Pirates over seven innings.
Yu Darvish, SP9/9/2013 10:43:00 PM
Description: Texas starter Yu Darvish was the tough-luck loser Monday night versus Pittsburgh.
Insight: Most nights, giving up one run in seven innings would put you in a great position to win the game. But that wasn't in the cards for Darvish on Monday as the Rangers fell by a final score of 1-0. Darvish (12-8, 2.84 ERA) has now gone almost a month since his last victory (August 12th against Houston).
Ian Kinsler, 2B9/6/2013 1:33:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler is 6-for-13 (.462) with three extra base hits and a 1.486 OPS against Angeles starter C.J. Wilson.
Insight: Kinsler's average is slightly up over the past two seasons, but the rest of his numbers are below expectations (.272, 11 HR, 58 RBI, 13 SB). Still, Friday should be a good day in a favorable matchup.
David Murphy, LF9/4/2013 11:25:00 AM
Description: Rangers left fielder David Murphy faces an unfavorable matchup Wednesday against Oakland starter Jarrod Parker.
Insight: The A's righthander has limited Murphy to three hits in 17 at bats (.176 AVG). Murphy (.222, 13 HR, 43 RBI) is having an awful season. Right now, he's hitting 54 points below his career average (.276).
Ian Kinsler, 2B9/4/2013 11:24:00 AM
Description: Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler hasn't had much luck against Oakland starter Jarrod Parker.
Insight: Kinsler (.274, 11 HR, 58 RBI, 13 SB) has only managed two hits against him in 12 at bats. So far, Kinsler is 2-for-10 in the series with a couple of strikeouts.
Alexi Ogando, SP9/3/2013 8:54:00 PM
Description: The Rangers activated Alexi Ogando from the disabled list but are unlikely to use him in the rotation, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Ogando has been on the DL twice this season with shoulder inflammation. The Rangers may decide that his arm cannot handle a 200-inning workload and move him back to the bullpen permanently
Elvis Andrus, SS9/3/2013 6:33:00 PM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus will miss his third straight game due to lower back tightness Tuesday.
Insight: Andrus (.263, 1 HR, 49 RBI, 35 SB) is day-to-day and isn't ready to return to the lineup yet.
Ian Kinsler, 2B9/3/2013 2:06:00 PM
Description: Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler is just 2-for-17 (.118) against Oakland starter Bartolo Colon.
Insight: After a hot April, Kinsler has been very mediocre over the past four months. He's also not stealing bases. He averaged 24.3 per season over the past six years, but has just 12 this season. Avoid this matchup.
Adrian Beltre, 3BHot9/3/2013 2:02:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre is a career .302 hitter (19-for-63) with five homers against Oakland starter Bartolo Colon.
Insight: That's tied for the most homers he's hit against any pitcher in his career (he's also hit five off of Livan Hernandez and Ervin Santana). Beltre is having a special second half, batting .354 after the break with a .953 OPS.
Elvis Andrus, SS9/3/2013 10:46:00 AM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus didn't play Monday against Oakland and is doubtful for Tuesday's game.
Insight: Andrus (.263, 1 HR, 49 RBI, 35 SB) missed Sunday's game because of back tightness. He's hit safely in 11 of his last 13 games.
Elvis Andrus, SS9/2/2013 11:23:00 AM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus probably won't play Monday against Oakland. If he does, however, fantasy owners should avoid him at all costs.
Insight: Andrus (.263, 1 HR, 49 RBI, 35 SB) missed Sunday's game because of back tightness and with an 0-for-12 line against A's righthander Dan Straily, it makes sense for the Rangers to sit him again on Labor Day.
Neftali Feliz, RP9/1/2013 10:56:00 PM
Description: Rangers reliever Neftali Feliz finally made his season debut Sunday against the Twins.
Insight: The outing went well for Feliz, who is now a little over a year removed from Tommy John surgery. In an inning and a third, he allowed just one hit while striking out two. His role in the Texas bullpen is a little murky at the moment so we'd stay away from him for now.
Elvis Andrus, SSHot9/1/2013 1:50:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is out of the lineup Sunday.
Insight: Andrus was removed from Saturday's game with back tightness, but it isn't considered serious. He could be back Monday.
Adrian Beltre, 3BHot9/1/2013 10:15:00 AM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre hit .381 in August and finished the month hitting .326 with 28 homers, 82 RBI and a .919 OPS.
Insight: Beltre has been a .375 hitter with a 1.072 OPS since the start of July. He doesn't get the same recognition as some of the other big-name hitters in the American League, but he is a top-five MVP candidate on a team that lost Josh Hamilton in free agency and Nelson Cruz to a suspension.
Matt Garza, SP9/1/2013 8:35:00 AM
Description: After allowing at least four earned runs in his first five starts of August, Texas right-hander Matt Garza gave up one on three hits over seven innings Saturday against the Twins.
Insight: Garza struck out nine Saturday and 25 over his last 20 2/3 innings. He's 3-2 with a 4.04 ERA in eight starts since joining Texas.
Elvis Andrus, SSHot8/31/2013 8:51:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus left Saturday's game due to lower back tightness, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: The Rangers don't think it is anything serious and called the move to remove Andrus precautionary. He's day-to-day.
Neftali Feliz, SP8/30/2013 9:00:00 PM
Description: According to Anthony Andro of FOXSportsSouthwest.com, Texas will bring up Neftali Feliz Sunday when the rosters expand.
Insight: Feliz will join the Rangers in a setup role for closer Joe Nathan. The right-hander hasn't pitched in the majors since May 18 last season due to a torn UCL in his elbow. It's unclear what the Rangers' plans are for the 25-year-old who has 74 career saves and had a 3.16 ERA in 42 2/3 innings as a starter last season.
Martin Perez, SPHot8/29/2013 9:52:00 AM
Description: Rangers starter Martin Perez improved to 5-0 in August Wednesday against the Mariners.
Insight: Perez allowed two runs over six innings Wednesday and has a 3.06 ERA in 35 1/3 innings this month. He has also received some serious run support -- 9.8 runs per game -- during his winning streak.
Leonys Martin, CF8/29/2013 9:33:00 AM
Description: Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin went 2-for-6 with a homer and four RBI Wednesday at Seattle.
Insight: Martin has hit .269 with seven home runs, 35 RBI, 54 runs, 29 steals and a .715 OPS, making him a solid fourth outfielder in deep leagues.
Elvis Andrus, SSHot8/29/2013 9:31:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is 11-for-24 (.458) over his last five games and 48-for-151 (.318) since the All-Star break.
Insight: Andrus had a terrible first half, hitting .242 with a .580 OPS. He has his season line up to .264/.325/.316 after going 3-for-4 Wednesday night at Seattle.
Jurickson Profar, 2B8/28/2013 2:50:00 PM
Description: Texas infielder Jurickson Profar will start at third base with Adrian Beltre at DH on Wednesday afternoon.
Insight: It will be Profar's 10th start at third base making him eligible in some fantasy leagues. he's now started double-digit games at 2B, 3B and SS. The highly-touted Profar as struggled with the bat this season, hitting .233 with a .635 OPS. We expect more from him in the future.
A.J. Pierzynski, C8/28/2013 2:46:00 PM
Description: Texas catcher A.J. Pierzynski is not in Wednesday afternoon's starting lineup versus Seattle.
Insight: Simply the typical day game off after a night game that many catchers receive. As long as fantasy owners didn't expect him to repeat his 2012 numbers they are probably getting their money's worth of production (.279, 15 HR, 56 RBI). Geovany Soto will start behind the plate.
David Murphy, LF8/28/2013 10:00:00 AM
Description: Texas outfielder David Murphy is the rare hitter who can produce against Seattle ace Felix Hernandez.
Insight: Murphy is 24-for-73 (.329) with three homers and 16 RBI against "King Felix." The Rangers outfielder has struggled with the bat, hitting just .221 this season with a .658 OPS which is well below last season's production level.
Leonys Martin, CF8/27/2013 10:07:00 AM
Description: Texas center fielder Leonys Martin didn't play Monday, but is probable for Tuesday's game against Seattle.
Insight: Martin (.271, 6 HR, 31 RBI, 29 SB) sprained his ankle over the weekend and has now missed two games in a row. He had been just one for his last 14 before the injury.
Lance Berkman, DH8/26/2013 9:32:00 PM
Description: The Rangers are hoping to activate Lance Berkman on Sunday. SOURCE: Jeff Wilson, Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Insight: Berkman has been out since early July because of a hip issue. With Nelson Cruz suspended, the Rangers could definitely use another bat in the lineup. The 37-year-old is hitting .254 this year with six homers in 244 at bats.
Neftali Feliz, SP8/26/2013 9:18:00 PM
Description: As long as he doesn't have any setbacks, Texas righthander Neftali Feliz will be activated from the DL on Sunday or Monday. SOURCE: Jeff Wilson, Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Insight: Feliz has had to overcome a few hiccups in his recovery from Tommy John surgery but it looks like he's finally ready to go. Though Feliz was used as a starter the last time we saw him pitch in the major leagues, he figures to be a middle reliever/setup man this time around.
Leonys Martin, CFCold8/26/2013 6:18:00 PM
Description: Texas center fielder Leonys Martin won't play Monday against Seattle.
Insight: Martin (.271, 6 HR, 31 RBI, 29 SB) sprained his ankle over the weekend and has now missed two games in a row. He had been just one for his last 14 before the injury.
Ian Kinsler, 2B8/26/2013 12:03:00 PM
Description: Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler has a career .333 batting average with four homers and a 1.152 OPS versus Seattle starter Joe Saunders.
Insight: After a hot April, Kinsler has been very mediocre over the past four months. he's also not stealing bases. He averaged 24.3 per season over the past six years, but has just nine this season. This matchup, however, is a good one.
Leonys Martin, CF8/26/2013 11:15:00 AM
Description: Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin is probable for Monday's game against Seattle with a sprained right ankle.
Insight: Martin collided with David Murphy and came off the field limping. He's batting .271 with 6 HR, 31 RBI, 52 runs and 29 SB.
Elvis Andrus, SS8/25/2013 11:27:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is batting .217 (10-for-46) over his last 12 games, but he is 5-for-13 (.385) against White Sox starter John Danks.
Insight: Andrus is also hitting .295 with a .755 OPS, 23 runs and 16 steals since the All-Star break after batting .242 prior to the break. Get him in the lineup Sunday.
Ian Kinsler, 2B8/25/2013 11:23:00 AM
Description: Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler has absolutely terrorized White Sox starter John Danks, going 11-for-28 (.393) with three doubles and four homers against the left-hander.
Insight: Danks starter Sunday, so Kinsler should be active in all lineups even though he's only batting .250 with four homers in 62 games since returning from an intercostal strain.
Adrian Beltre, 3BHot8/25/2013 11:21:00 AM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre doesn't have good numbers against White Sox starter John Danks, but he does have a .420 average with five home runs, 15 walks, 21 RBI, 17 runs and a 1.146 OPS over his last 24 games.
Insight: In this case, fantasy owners should ignore Beltre's 6-for-29 (.207) history against Danks.
Leonys Martin, CF8/24/2013 10:52:00 PM
Description: Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin hurt himself in a collision with teammate David Murphy on Saturday.
Insight: It wasn't clear what the injury was though Dallas Morning News writer Evan Grant noticed Martin was limping when he came off the field. Alex Rios is occupying center field in his absence.
Elvis Andrus, SS8/23/2013 12:08:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is hitless in 11 at-bats against White Sox left-hander Chris Sale.
Insight: Andrus has hit much better since the All-Star break, batting .295 over the 32-game span. His .759 OPS makes him a viable fantasy option at shortstop, but not on Friday in this unfavorable matchup.
A.J. Pierzynski, C8/21/2013 11:18:00 AM
Description: Texas catcher A.J. Pierzynski is 9-for-19 (.474) with a pair of homers and a 1.263 OPS against Houston starter Erik Bedard.
Insight: Pierzynski is having a solid season, though it pales a bit compared to last season's "career year." As long as fantasy owners didn't expect him to repeat his 2012 numbers they are probably getting their money's worth of production (.282, 14 HR, 52 RBI). Start him on Wednesday.
Alexi Ogando, SP8/20/2013 5:51:00 PM
Description: The Rangers placed Alexi Ogando on the disabled list due to right shoulder inflammation.
Insight: Ogando missed six weeks from early June to late July for the same reason. The Rangers may decide that his arm cannot handle a 200-inning workload and move him back to the bullpen next season.
Adrian Beltre, 3BHot8/19/2013 11:21:00 AM
Description: Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre is a .462 lifetime hitter versus Houston starter Lucas Harrell with a 1.346 OPS. He's also has banged out multi-hit games in seven of the last 11 contests.
Insight: Beltre is having another excellent season (.326, 25 HR, 75 RBI, .908 OPS) and is the heart of the Rangers' offense. This matchup should add more to his totals.
Leonys Martin, CF8/18/2013 12:09:00 PM
Description: Texas center fielder Leonys Martin won't be available Sunday against the Mariners.
Insight: Martin (.274, 6 HR, 29 RBI) looked fine in Saturday's 15-3 win so he doesn't appear to be injured. We're guessing it's just a maintenance day for the 25-year-old.
Alexi Ogando, SP8/17/2013 8:01:00 PM
Description: Texas starter Alexi Ogando will not make his scheduled start Monday versus Houston. SOURCE: Anthony Andro, Fox Sports Southwest
Insight: Ogando is dealing with nerve inflammation in his right shoulder. At this point, it's unknown if Ogando (5-4, 3.47 ERA) will require a stint on the disabled list. Matt Garza (8-2, 3.40) will get the start Monday in Ogando's place.
David Murphy, LF8/17/2013 11:35:00 AM
Description: Texas outfielder David Murphy is the rare hitter who can produce against Seattle ace Felix Hernandez.
Insight: Murphy is 23-for-71 (.324) with three homers against "King Felix." The Rangers outfielder has struggled with the bat, hitting just .222 this season with a .664 OPS which is well below last season's production level.

He's hitting .254 with six home runs this season.
Alexi Ogando, SP8/16/2013 5:25:00 PM
Description: Rangers pitcher Alexi Ogando (shoulder) was diagnosed with nerve inflammation in his right shoulder, according to Anthony Andro of FOXSportsSouthwest.com.

Ian Kinsler, 2B8/16/2013 10:38:00 AM
Description: Seattle's Hisashi Iwakuma has been one of fantasy's top starters this season, but Texas' Ian Kinsler hasn't had much trouble against him.
Insight: Kinsler has gone 6-for-15 (.400) with three homers against Iwakuma. Though he did go 0-for-3 in their last matchup, don't hesitate to plug the second baseman into your lineup.
Alexi Ogando, SP8/14/2013 8:55:00 PM
Description: Rangers pitcher Alexi Ogando is dealing with shoulder soreness again. He had a CT scan Wednesday, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Ogando, who missed six weeks earlier this season due to shoulder inflammation, complained of shoulder soreness after Tuesday's start. He'll receive the results of the exam Thursday.
Neftali Feliz, SP8/12/2013 9:11:00 PM
Description: Rangers righthander Neftali Feliz has been shut down indefinitely. SOURCE: ESPN Dallas

Yu Darvish, SP8/12/2013 6:24:00 PM
Description: Rangers ace Yu Darvish notched his 12th win of the season Monday and he did it in spectacular fashion, limiting the Astros to just one hit in eight masterful innings.
Insight: Catcher Carlos Corporan broke up the no-hitter with one out in the eighth inning. Darvish finished the game with 15 strikeouts, a career-high. ESPN baseball analyst Curt Schilling compared the outing to watching Michaelangelo paint or listening to Beethoven play the piano. Darvish (12-5, 2.64 ERA) is now on pace for 282 strikeouts this season. No pitcher has reached that total since 2004 when Randy Johnson led the majors with 290 K's. If you haven't figured it out yet, this guy is the real deal.
A.J. Pierzynski, C8/12/2013 3:55:00 PM
Description: Texas catcher A.J. Pierzynski was ejected from Monday's game against Houston for arguing with home plate umpire Ron Kulpa in the sixth inning.
Insight: Kulpa called a ball on a close pitch that ended up costing Yu Darvish a perfect game. Pierzynski said something to Kulpa after the pitch and was thrown out immediately. Geovany Soto has come on to take Pierzynski's place. The no-hitter is still in tact going into the seventh inning.
Jeff Baker, OF8/12/2013 1:13:00 PM
Description: Rangers 1B/OF/3B Jeff Baker has produced some exciting numbers in limited action this season and will start at first base on Monday.
Insight: The multi-position eligible Baker is batting .305 with nine home runs and a .987 OPS in 105 at-bats this season.
Lance Berkman, DH8/12/2013 11:06:00 AM
Description: Rangers DH Lance Berkman played his second rehab game at Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday and could return to the big club this week.
Insight: With Nelson Cruz suspended and the team outside the top-10 in run production (4.41 rpg), they can use his help. The 37-year-old hasn't done much this season batting just .254 with six homers and 34 RBI, but is a career .294 hitter with a .945 OPS.
Martin Perez, SP8/11/2013 5:47:00 PM
Description: Texas lefthander Martin Perez went the distance Sunday for his fifth win of the season.
Insight: Sunday marked Perez's first complete game in 16 big league starts. Over nine innings, he allowed just four hits and one run, walking two while collecting eight strikeouts. The 22-year-old from Venezuela will look to duplicate Sunday's performance next week against the Mariners.
Neftali Feliz, SP8/11/2013 4:20:00 PM
Description: Texas righthander Neftali Feliz has suffered a setback in his return from Tommy John surgery. SOURCE: Evan Grant, Dallas Morning News
Insight: The former AL Rookie of the Year was scratched from his rehab appearance Saturday with Triple-A Round Rock. Apparently, he's dealing with soreness in his triceps. Even if Feliz makes it back to the majors this season, he isn't likely to start, which significantly hinders his fantasy value.
A.J. Pierzynski, C8/11/2013 2:11:00 PM
Description: Rangers catcher A.J. Pierzynski received a routine day off Sunday.
Insight: Pierzynski, who hit his 13th homer Saturday, got a standard off day for a day game following a night game.
A.J. Pierzynski, C8/11/2013 9:30:00 AM
Description: Rangers catcher A.J. Pierzynski swatted home run No. 13 Saturday night against the Astros.
Insight: Pierzynski isn't going to reach last year's fluky 27 home runs, but he's providing numbers close to his average season from 2003-11.
Elvis Andrus, SSHot8/11/2013 9:26:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer Saturday at Houston. It was his first round-tripper of the season.
Insight: Andrus has hit safely in 21 of the last 22 games and batted .337 in 86 at-bats during that span to raise his average from .242 to .260. That's still below expectations, but with 66 runs and 30 steals he's still an above-average option at shortstop, one of fantasy's worst positions.
Lance Berkman, DH8/9/2013 9:00:00 PM
Description: Rangers DH Lance Berkman plans to return next Friday versus Seattle. SOURCE: Evan Grant, Dallas Morning News
Insight: Berkman has missed the last month with knee and hip issues. He should begin a rehab assignment on Sunday or Monday.
Alex Rios, RF8/9/2013 2:32:00 PM
Description: Right fielder Alex Rios has been traded to Texas. SOURCE: Dan Hayes, Comcast Sportsnet Chicago
Insight: The White Sox will get a player to be named later. Rios provides the Rangers with a nice mix of power (12 HR) and speed (26 steals). The move will give top prospect Avisail Garcia a chance to see regular at bats in the major leagues.
A.J. Pierzynski, C8/9/2013 10:42:00 AM
Description: Rangers catcher A.J. Pierzynski is 7-for-16 (.438) with a pair of homers and a 1.250 OPS against Houston left-hander Erik Bedard.
Insight: Pierzynski doesn't usually hit left-handers all that well with a career .260 batting average and a .674 OPS, so this matchup goes contrary to his overall numbers.
Yu Darvish, SP8/8/2013 10:11:00 AM
Description: Texas righthander Yu Darvish felt tightness in his gluteus maximus Tuesday against the Angels. SOURCE: Dallas Morning News
Insight: The hope is that it won't prevent him from making his next start Monday against Houston. The 26-year-old is 3-1 with a 1.37 ERA and 35 strikeouts since the All-Star break.
Colby Lewis, SP8/6/2013 4:33:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Colby Lewis will have surgery to remove bone spurs from his right hip and will miss the rest of the season, according to the Associated Press.
Insight: Lewis has been rehabbing from surgery last year to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow. His elbow is doing well, but the hip problem has affected his mechanics as it has worsened. He'll be a free agent at the end of the year, but Rangers GM Jon Daniels says the team would "absolutely" like to have him back.
Nelson Cruz, RF8/5/2013 2:04:00 PM
Description: Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz will accept the 50-game PED suspension given to him by Major League Baseball.
Insight: Cruz was hot with three homers in his last five games. Accepting the penalty means he could return in time for the playoffs should the Rangers get there.
A.J. Pierzynski, C8/5/2013 11:49:00 AM
Description: Don't be surprised if Rangers catcher A.J. Pierzynski gets Monday off as he's just 1-for-12 against Angels right-hander Jerome Williams.
Insight: Pierzynski hasn't been anywhere close to the power producer he was last year when he hit 27 homers, but then again he was never close to that total the rest of his career either. He has 12 long balls, 43 RBI and a .277 average this season, his first with the Rangers. Backup catcher Geovany Soto isn't much better against Williams, however, with one hit in five at-bats.
Nelson Cruz, RFHot8/5/2013 11:46:00 AM
Description: Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz "owns" Angels Monday night starter Jerome Williams, batting .611 with four homers and a 1.965 OPS in 18 official at-bats.
Insight: Cruz has three homers in his last five games. He still hasn't decided whether or not he'll appeal his upcoming Biogenesis suspension, but fantasy owners hope he does ... at least until after his Monday matchup.
Derek Holland, SP8/4/2013 7:02:00 PM
Description: Texas starter Derek Holland was dominant Sunday in a win versus Oakland.
Insight: The lefthander scattered four hits over eight scoreless innings. He finished the afternoon with 10 strikeouts and two walks. Holland's 3.02 ERA this season is more than a run and a half lower than the one he posted in 2012 (4.67).
Nelson Cruz, RF8/4/2013 4:24:00 PM
Description: According to Gerry Fraley from The Dallas Morning News, Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz still hasn't decided whether or not he'll appeal his Biogenesis suspension.
Insight: Cruz and seven others players will receive their suspensions on Monday. The two-time All-Star "hopes" to play Monday against the Angels, but that may not be for him to decide.
Nelson Cruz, RF8/4/2013 9:20:00 AM
Description: Texas right fielder Nelson Cruz left Saturday's game with a strained left quadriceps and is questionable for Sunday's game against Oakland.
Insight: He was dealing with a quad injury earlier in the week and apparently re-aggravated it. With a possible suspension hanging over his head, we may have seen the last of Cruz for 2013.
Nelson Cruz, RF8/3/2013 7:20:00 PM
Description: Texas right fielder Nelson Cruz had a rough day at the plate, as expected, but it got much worse when he limped to first on a groundout in the eighth inning.
Insight: He was dealing with a quad injury earlier in the week and this play might have re-aggravated it. We await further word.
A.J. Pierzynski, C8/3/2013 3:00:00 PM
Description: Rangers catcher A.J. Pierzynski is not in Saturday afternoon's starting lineup, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Geovany Soto will be behind the plate.
Insight: Pierzynski hasn't been anywhere close to the power producer he was last year when he hit 27 homers, but then again he was never close to that total the rest of his career either. He has 12 long balls, 43 RBI and a .282 average this season, his first with the Rangers.
Nelson Cruz, RF8/3/2013 9:48:00 AM
Description: Texas right fielder Nelson Cruz is hitless in 14 at-bats against Oakland starter Jarrod Parker with six strikeouts.
Insight: Add the stress of a possible impending suspension on Monday and this is not a situation you want to depend on, despite his blasting a home run on Friday night.
Adrian Beltre, 3BHot8/2/2013 10:38:00 AM
Description: Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre is a .417 lifetime hitter versus Oakland starter Tommy Milone with a pair of homers and a 1.333 OPS.
Insight: Beltre exploded in the recent three-game series with Anaheim, going 7-for-13. This matchup should help him stay hot and he should be in all fantasy lineups.
A.J. Pierzynski, C8/1/2013 10:17:00 PM
Description: Rangers catcher A.J. Pierzynski went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI Thursday versus Arizona. He also stole his first base since 2010.
Insight: Pierzynski hasn't been anywhere close to the power producer he was last year when he hit 27 homers, but then again he was never close to that total the rest of his career either. He has 12 bombs, 40 RBI and a .279 average this season, his first with the Rangers.
Yu Darvish, SP8/1/2013 10:13:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Yu Darvish fanned 14 batters and didn't walk anyone over seven scoreless innings Thursday night against Arizona.
Insight: The major league strikeout leader extended his lead over Matt Harvey, who also pitched Saturday and struck out eight in 5 2/3 innings. Darvish has struck out 186 batters in 138 2/3 innings this year, a dominating 12.07 K/9.
Lance Berkman, DH8/1/2013 3:17:00 PM
Description: Updating a previous report, Texas DH Lance Berkman says he is not considering retirement. SOURCE: Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports
Insight: Berkman has been battling chronic knee issues for the past two years and it doesn't look like he has a lot left in the tank. It's encouraging to see the Puma still going for it but realistically, we might not see him again this season.
Nelson Cruz, RFCold7/31/2013 2:38:00 PM
Description: According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Texas right fielder Nelson Cruz might appeal his Biogenesis suspension.
Insight: The reports to this point have indicated that only Alex Rodriguez would appeal, while everyone else would accept. According to a report from USA Today's Bob Nightengale Monday, the Rangers would view Cruz accepting his suspension as quitting on the team and would have serious doubts about bringing him back in free agency this offseason.
Adrian Beltre, 3B7/31/2013 10:18:00 AM
Description: Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre is a .444 lifetime hitter versus Jerome Williams of the Angels.
Insight: Beltre is hitting .286 with one homer and a .694 OPS in 12 games since the All-Star break, but facing Williams Wednesday could wake up his bat. He has gone 8-for-18 with a double and a homer against the Angels hurler.
Nelson Cruz, RFCold7/31/2013 10:15:00 AM
Description: Texas right fielder Nelson Cruz has absolutely crushed Angels pitcher Jerome Williams in his career. He's 9-for-15 (.600) with a double and three homers versus the right-hander.
Insight: Fantasy owners should enjoy this favorable matchup before Cruz, who is hitting .220 with 10 K since the break, accepts his expected 50-game suspension for his connection to Biogenesis.
Lance Berkman, DH7/30/2013 6:09:00 PM
Description: According to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Rangers DH Lance Berkman (knee) jogged Tuesday and didn't feel good.
Insight: "Not good, to be honest," said Berkman when asked how his jog went. The Big Puma is considering retirement due to pain in his right knee.
Matt Garza, SP7/29/2013 10:15:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Matt Garza failed to win his seventh straight start Monday against the Angels but he did throw a quality outing.
Insight: Garza allowed three runs and struck out six in seven innings in a no decision. Since allowing nine earned runs in five innings on June 11, Garza has gone 6-0 and allowed nine earned runs total over his last 58 frames (1.40 ERA).
Manny Ramirez, DH7/29/2013 4:56:00 PM
Description: According to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Rangers still have no plans to call up Manny Ramirez.
Insight: They haven't changed their stance from two weeks ago. Ramirez signed a minor league contract on July 3 and has hit .269 with three homers in 18 games with Triple-A Round Rock. The Rangers reportedly will decide this week if they will keep the 41-year-old in their system.
Adrian Beltre, 3B7/29/2013 10:58:00 AM
Description: Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre has struggled versus Angeles starter Jered Weaver, batting just .191 (13-for-68) with 14 strikeouts.
Insight: Beltre (.307, 22 HR, 58 RBI) is the heart of the Rangers' offense, but history says he'll struggle Monday night.
Elvis Andrus, SS7/29/2013 10:53:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is a career .371 hitter (23-for-62) against Jered Weaver of the division rival Angels.
Insight: Andrus has had a completely forgettable season thus far, but has begun to hit - batting .333 over the past two weeks. Still, he's batting just .250 this season with 55 runs and 22 stolen bases. He'll be hard-pressed to reach his 89 runs scored average from the past three seasons.
Nelson Cruz, RFCold7/28/2013 11:57:00 AM
Description: Texas right fielder Nelson Cruz will bat third Sunday versus Cleveland but we're not expecting a big game from him.
Insight: That's because he's 0-for-10 lifetime with eight strikeouts against Indians starter Ubaldo Jimenez. Cruz is hitting a buck 88 since the break and is probably going to be suspended for his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal sometime this week. His fantasy stock hasn't been this low in a while.
Adrian Beltre, 3B7/28/2013 11:53:00 AM
Description: Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre has been a monster versus Indians starter Ubaldo Jimenez.
Insight: He's hitting .429 against the Cleveland righthander. Beltre (.310, 22 HR, 58 RBI) smacked three hits in the series opener but was 0-for-3 in Saturday's 1-0 loss.
Joe Nathan, RP7/28/2013 10:25:00 AM
Description: According to Fox's Ken Rosenthal, the Rangers could look to deal All-Star closer Joe Nathan at this year's trade deadline.
Insight: Rosenthal says the team is trying to take advantage of a thin market for relief pitching. The Rangers' desire to add a righthanded bat before the deadline might be the worst kept secret in baseball. If Nathan gets dealt, Joakim Soria, a closer during his days in Kansas City, will slide into the ninth inning role.
Yu Darvish, SP7/27/2013 10:04:00 PM
Description: Rangers righthander Yu Darvish dropped to 9-5 after taking a loss Saturday versus Cleveland.
Insight: Darvish actually had an outstanding game (6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 11 K's) but Justin Masterson was even better for the Indians (7 2/3 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 8 K's). Maybe Darvish's offense will score more runs for him next time out against the Diamondbacks.
A.J. Pierzynski, C7/27/2013 9:40:00 AM
Description: Rangers backstop A.J. Pierzynski owns a .424 lifetime average against Cleveland's Justin Masterson.
Insight: Pierzynski has 14 hits in 33 at-bats off Masterson, so even though he is hitting .256 with a .682 OPS in July he should be in fantasy lineups Saturday.
Derek Holland, SP7/25/2013 7:40:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Derek Holland was the tough-luck loser Thursday against the Yankees. He was defeated despite allowing two runs over 7 1/3 innings.
Insight: Holland has given up just nine homers in 141 innings this year after serving up 32 in 175 1/3 last year. That has helped him lower his ERA from 4.67 to 3.06.
Nelson Cruz, RFCold7/25/2013 10:16:00 AM
Description: Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz is just 1-for-12 (.083) with three strikeouts against versus Yankees right-hander Hiroki Kuroda.
Insight: The two-time All-Star has cracked the 20-HR mark for the fifth consecutive season, but he's just 4-for-20 since the All-Star break and Thursday is not a good matchup. Avoid.
Adrian Beltre, 3BCold7/25/2013 10:13:00 AM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre is a career .133 hitter with four strikeouts versus Yankees right-hander Hiroki Kuroda.
Insight: Beltre is batting just .222 over the past nine games, but for the season he's been the heart of the Rangers' offense (.309, 22 HR. 58 RBI, .884 OPS).
Nelson Cruz, RFCold7/24/2013 10:32:00 AM
Description: Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz is just 1-for-14 (.071) with three strikeouts against Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte.
Insight: The two-time All-Star has cracked the 20-HR mark for the fifth consecutive season, but he's just 3-for-17 since the All-Star break and Wednesday is not a good matchup. Avoid.
Alexi Ogando, SP7/23/2013 5:55:00 PM
Description: Rangers pitcher Alexi Ogando (shoulder) will start Tuesday against the Yankees.
Insight: Ogando has been sidelined since June 5 because of shoulder inflammation. The team activated him from the disabled list Tuesday afternoon.
Elvis Andrus, SS7/23/2013 11:22:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus has yet to figure out a way to get on base against Yankees starter Phil Hughes.
Insight: He's hitless in 10 at-bats versus the Yankees' right-hander. Andrus has averaged 89 runs scored over the past three seasons, but with just 52 through the first 99 games, he'll be hard-pressed to match that total this season and a .592 OPS won't make fantasy owners happy either.
Yu Darvish, SP7/22/2013 10:23:00 PM
Description: Texas ace Yu Darvish was dominant Monday in his return to the starting rotation.
Insight: Darvish allowed just two hits in 6 1/3 shutout innings as the Rangers rolled past the Yankees for a 3-0 victory. Even after missing his last start, Darvish still leads the majors in strikeouts (161 K's in 125 2/3 innings).
Matt Garza, SP7/22/2013 6:16:00 PM
Description: The Cubs have traded righthander Matt Garza to Texas for Mike Olt, C.J. Edwards, Justin Grimm and a player to be named later. SOURCE: Bruce Levine, ESPN Chicago
Insight: Olt is a top prospect and Grimm has shown potential, so it's not a bad haul for the Cubs. Garza probably wasn't going to re-sign with Chicago anyway. The Rangers will be Garza's fourth team in eight major league seasons.
Yu Darvish, SP7/22/2013 12:43:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Yu Darvish (back) is expected to return to the rotation on Monday.
Insight: Darvish was placed on the disabled list Wednesday due to a minor strain in his upper back, but doctors gave him a clean bill of health Thursday. He missed one start and the All-Star game.
A.J. Pierzynski, C7/22/2013 9:48:00 AM
Description: Texas catcher A.J. Pierzynski is just 1-for-12 (.083) against Yankees starter Ivan Nova.
Insight: Pierzynski is hitting .281 with nine homers and 34 RBI this season, nice enough numbers, though his power is down from last season's "career year" when he blasted 27 round trippers. Avoid this matchup.
Lance Berkman, DH7/19/2013 8:13:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN Dallas, Rangers DH Lance Berkman hit in the batting cages Friday for the first time since going on the DL with left hip inflammation on July 7.
Insight: Berkman is unlikely to return Monday when he's first eligible, but he could be back in the lineup next weekend. He's hitting just .254 with six homers and a .732 OPS this season.
Nelson Cruz, RF7/19/2013 5:14:00 PM
Description: Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz is not in the starting lineup Friday due to a migraine headache.
Insight: Cruz hit .277 with 22 homers and 69 RBI in the first half and made the All-Star team. The right fielder should be back Saturday or Sunday.
Derek Lowe, SP7/18/2013 7:25:00 PM
Description: Derek Lowe has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball. SOURCE: USA Today
Insight: The Rangers released Lowe earlier this season. The 40-year-old will finish his career with 176 wins in 681 games (377 starts). Lowe appeared in two All-Star games, both as a member of the Red Sox. In 2004, he became the first pitcher to win the decisive game of the Division Series, League Championship Series and the World Series in the same postseason.
Matt Harrison, SP7/18/2013 5:48:00 PM
Description: Texas lefty Matt Harrison (back) threw 25 pitches Thursday in his first bullpen session since undergoing two back surgeries, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Harrison threw at 75 percent intensity. The left-hander hasn't pitched since April 6 and isn't expected to return until late August or early September.
Manny Ramirez, DH7/16/2013 5:03:00 PM
Description: According to MLB.com, the Rangers have no plans to call up Manny Ramirez.
Insight: Ramirez will remain at Triple-A Round Rock following the All-Star break. He has hit .300 with three home runs and a .964 OPS in 30 at-bats with the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate.
Alexi Ogando, SP7/14/2013 3:33:00 PM
Description: Rangers pitcher Alexi Ogando (shoulder) is scheduled to return to Texas' rotation for the team's fifth game after the All-Star break.
Insight: Ogando has been sidelined since June 5 because of shoulder inflammation. He'll throw his final rehab game Thursday.
Nelson Cruz, RF7/14/2013 11:05:00 AM
Description: Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz went 4-for-5 with a double, two runs and one RBI Saturday at Detroit, but he is 2-for-17 with six strikeouts against Sunday's starter Justin Verlander.
Insight: Of course, Verlander hasn't exactly dominated this season -- he has a 3.71 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP in 119 innings. Fantasy owners can take a shot on leaving Cruz in the lineup Sunday.
Adrian Beltre, 3BHot7/13/2013 10:53:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre had another monster game Saturday at Detroit, going 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI.
Insight: Beltre is batting .500 with three doubles, seven home runs and 13 RBI over his last 11 games.
Mitch Moreland, 1B7/13/2013 10:49:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland only went 9-for-58 (.155) with zero homers and 14 strikeouts in his first 18 games after coming off the DL, but he has gone 5-for-12 with a homer over his last three games.
Insight: Moreland hit his first home run since June 4 Saturday against the Tigers. He has 12 on the season to go with a .265 batting average.
Nelson Cruz, RF7/13/2013 10:47:00 PM
Description: Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz went 4-for-5 with a double, two runs and one RBI Saturday at Detroit.
Insight: Cruz is hitting .280 with 22 home runs, 69 RBI and 42 runs this season. If he's suspended for his connection to the Biogenesis Clinic, it's going to hurt the Rangers and fantasy owners alike.
Derek Holland, SP7/13/2013 10:45:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Derek Holland worked around five walks to beat the Detroit Tigers Saturday night.
Insight: The Rangers dealt Max Scherzer his first loss due to Holland's seven innings of one-run ball. The lefty, who is 8-4 with a 3.08 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP, has allowed just eight home runs in 125 2/3 innings after giving up 32 in 175 1/3 last year.
Colby Lewis, SP7/13/2013 6:08:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Colby Lewis (elbow) will start his minor league rehab assignment Wednesday with Double-A Frisco, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Lewis, who is rehabbing from elbow surgery, started a rehab assignment May 9 but had to put that on hold due to soreness in his elbow and triceps area. If he can avoid another setback, he'll return to Texas' rotation in a couple weeks.
Alexi Ogando, SP7/13/2013 5:47:00 PM
Description: Rangers pitcher Alexi Ogando (shoulder) will throw six innings or 95 pitches Thursday in a rehab start for Triple-A Round Rock, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Ogando has been sidelined since June 5 because of shoulder inflammation. He could rejoin the rotation on July 23 if he gets through Thursday's rehab game.
David Murphy, LF7/12/2013 10:13:00 AM
Description: Texas outfielder David Murphy doesn't get much notice with all the personalities on the Rangers team, but you should pay attention to him on Friday in a favorable matchup..
Insight: Murphy is 9-for-20 (.450) with four homers and eight RBI versus Detroit right-hander Doug Fister. Given the starting job when Josh Hamilton jumped to the Angels, Murphy has struggled with a low batting average (.221), but has knocked out 10 homers.
A.J. Pierzynski, C7/12/2013 10:08:00 AM
Description: Texas catcher A.J. Pierzynski is just 2-for-19 (.105) against Tigers starter Doug Fister.
Insight: Pierzynski is hitting .277 with eight homers and 31 RBI this season, nice enough numbers, though his power is down from last season's "career year" when he blasted 27 round trippers. Avoid this matchup.
Endy Chavez, OF7/12/2013 9:33:00 AM
Description: Seattle outfielder Endy Chavez left Thursday's game against Boston with tightness in right groin.
Insight: Chavez is batting .279 in 64 games this season, but his lack of power (2 HR, .650 OPS) and just one stolen base equate to no fantasy value even when healthy.
Yu Darvish, SP7/11/2013 5:41:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Yu Darvish (back) is expected to return to the rotation on July 22, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
Insight: Darvish was placed on the disabled list Wednesday due to a minor strain in his upper back, but doctors gave him a clean bill of health Thursday. He'll miss one start and the All-Star game, but that's it.
Yu Darvish, SP7/10/2013 7:04:00 PM
Description: Texas righthander Yu Darvish has been placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to July 7th with a strained trapezius.
Insight: Andy Pettitte and Clay Buchholz dealt with similar injuries earlier in the year. The Rangers will be off for four days because of the All-Star break so Darvish (8-4, 3.02 ERA) might only miss one start. Obviously he won't be able to pitch in next week's All-Star Game at Citi Field, which he was invited to for the second straight year.
Adrian Beltre, 3B7/9/2013 10:04:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre went 4-for-4 with two homers, five RBI and a walk Tuesday at Baltimore.
Insight: Beltre didn't make the AL All-Star team even though he is hitting .319 with 20 home runs, 52 RBI, 51 runs and a .913 OPS.
Josh Lindblom, SP7/9/2013 8:13:00 PM
Description: Texas pitcher Josh Lindblom will start Wednesday against the Orioles.
Insight: He's expected to make just one start before Alexi Ogando returns to the rotation. With a terrible matchup ahead of him Wednesday, fantasy owners can ignore the right-hander.

Description: Rangers starter Colby Lewis (elbow) threw live batting practice Tuesday, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Lewis threw 45 pitches and said he felt good early before tiring late. The right-hander, who is rehabbing from elbow surgery, started his rehab assignment May 9 but had to put that on hold due to soreness in his elbow and triceps area. He'll throw another batting practice session Saturday.
A.J. Pierzynski, C7/7/2013 9:34:00 PM
Description: Texas catcher A.J. Pierzynski hit a three-run homer in the first inning Sunday against Houston.
Insight: He came in with strong numbers against Astros starter Erik Bedard and he added to them quickly. Pierzynski was just 2-for-25 (.080) in his previous eight games, however, and is hitting .274 with eight homers and 29 RBI this season.
Nick Tepesch, SP7/7/2013 4:28:00 PM
Description: Rangers right-hander Nick Tepesch (elbow) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: Tepesch is dealing with right elbow inflammation. The rookie struck out a career-high nine batters in five innings Friday, but he's just 4-6 with a 4.85 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP this season.
Lance Berkman, DH7/7/2013 1:03:00 PM
Description: ESPN's Baseball Tonight reports that Rangers DH Lance Berkman has been placed on the 15-day DL.
Insight: Well, that was fast. The Rangers are calling Berkman's ailment "left hip inflammation." Adrian Beltre is DHing Sunday with Jurickson Profar getting the start at third base.
Lance Berkman, DH7/7/2013 12:56:00 PM
Description: Lance Berkman hurt his hip Saturday against Houston and he won't be in the lineup on Sunday. SOURCE: Dallas Morning News
Insight: At age 37, Berkman's body isn't as resilient as it used to be. Expect the Rangers to play it safe and keep him out for a few days.
Joakim Soria, RP7/7/2013 12:25:00 PM
Description: The Rangers activated relief pitcher Joakim Soria from the disabled list on Sunday.
Insight: Soria missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery and has sat out most of this season with a strained pectoral muscle. The former Royal will serve as the setup man for closer Joe Nathan.
Elvis Andrus, SS7/7/2013 11:50:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus hasn't done too well against Houston starter Erik Bedard.
Insight: He's collected just three hits in 17 lifetime at bats against the Astros lefthander. Andrus' .243 AVG this season is his lowest in five major league seasons.
A.J. Pierzynski, C7/7/2013 11:44:00 AM
Description: Texas catcher A.J. Pierzynski must be licking his chops knowing he'll be going up against Erik Bedard on Sunday.
Insight: He's dominated the Astros lefthander throughout his career (.462 AVG in 13 at bats). Bedard has a 2.16 ERA in 8 1/3 innings against the Rangers this season.
Jurickson Profar, 2B7/6/2013 7:16:00 PM
Description: Jurickson Profar will start in left field Saturday versus Houston.
Insight: It's the first time Profar has played the outfield in 42 big league appearances. Profar (.259, 3 HR, 9 RBI) hasn't played much since Ian Kinsler's return from the DL. If he can master the outfield, Profar might be able to be in the lineup almost everyday.
Elvis Andrus, SSCold7/4/2013 5:46:00 PM
Description: The slumping Elvis Andrus has been dropped to eighth in Texas' batting order.
Insight: Andrus is hitting .195 with a .471 OPS over his last 39 games and .242 with a .581 OPS this season. It's sure to be a temporary change until he starts hitting.
Elvis Andrus, SSCold7/4/2013 10:53:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is a career .167 hitter against M's starter Hisashi Iwakuma.
Insight: He's also hitting .195 with a .471 OPS over his last 39 games and .242 with a .581 OPS on the year. The shortstop shouldn't be in any lineups Thursday against the Mariners.
David Murphy, LF7/4/2013 10:52:00 AM
Description: Texas outfielder David Murphy has performed well against Mariners starter Hisashi Iwakuma, going 5-for-15 with two doubles and a homer against the righty.
Insight: Murphy was handed a starting job when Josh Hamilton signed with the Angels, but it has not gone well for the lefty-swinging outfielder. He's hitting .224 with a .665 OPS, and Texas just signed Manny Ramirez to a minor league deal. Yes, that Manny Ramirez.
Ian Kinsler, 2B7/4/2013 10:50:00 AM
Description: Seattle's Hisashi Iwakuma has been one of fantasy's top starters this season, but Texas' Ian Kinsler hasn't had much trouble against him.
Insight: Kinsler has gone 6-for-12 (.500) with three homers against Iwakuma. Don't hesitate to plug the second baseman into your lineup Thursday.
Derek Holland, SP7/4/2013 9:45:00 AM

Insight: Holland was facing Felix Hernandez and both starters took a no decision. Holland has allowed nine hits and two earned runs while striking out 17 batters over his last 15 innings.

Lance Berkman, DH7/3/2013 5:06:00 PM
Description: Texas DH Lance Berkman is back in the lineup Wednesday, according to Anthony Andro of FoxSportsSouthwest.com.
Insight: Berkman hasn't played since last Wednesday due to a sore knee. The DH is hitting just .263 with six homers, 34 RBI and a .754 OPS this season.
Manny Ramirez, DH7/3/2013 4:43:00 PM
Description: According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, the Texas Rangers will sign Manny Ramirez to a minor league contract.
Insight: Ramirez, who hit .352 with eight homers and 43 RBI in 49 games with the EDA Rhinos in Taiwan, will report to Triple-A Round Rock. The former slugger hasn't played in the big leagues since 2011 with Tampa Bay, when he played five games and went 1-for-17 before retiring following a positive test for elevated testosterone levels. He signed a minor league deal with the Athletics last year but asked for his release in June.
Ian Kinsler, 2B7/2/2013 10:30:00 AM
Description: Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler is a career .333 hitter with four home runs in 30 at-bats against Seattle veteran left-hander Joe Saunders.

Lance Berkman, DH7/2/2013 9:58:00 AM
Description: Texas DH Lance Berkman was out of the lineup Sunday due to lingering right knee soreness and is doubtful for Tuesday's game against Seattle.

Description: Rangers closer Joe Nathan went 11-for-11 in save chances and had a 0.63 ERA and a 0.63 WHIP in the month of June.
Insight: Nathan is 27-for-28 in save opportunities this year and has a 1.51 ERA. He's back to being one of the top relievers in baseball after Tommy John surgery knocked him down a few pegs.
Yu Darvish, SP6/30/2013 9:30:00 PM
Description: Rangers ace Yu Darvish prevailed Sunday in a battle of top righthanded starting pitchers.
Insight: Darvish outpitched Cincinnati's Mat Latos by recording eight strikeouts over 6 2/3 scoreless innings. The victory was Darvish's eighth of the season but only his first since May 16th. He leads the majors in K's and his 2.78 ERA is sixth-best in the AL.
Lance Berkman, DH6/30/2013 1:19:00 PM
Description: Texas DH Lance Berkman is out of the lineup again Sunday due to lingering knee soreness.
Insight: Berkman, who hasn't played since Wednesday, is day-to-day.

Insight: All we know is that Berkman is day-to-day with his injury. He hasn't played since Wednesday.
Lance Berkman, DH6/29/2013 9:58:00 AM

Description: Rangers starter Yu Darvish (7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K's) was excellent Sunday versus Kansas City.
Insight: Darvish had been in line for the victory but reliever Neal Cotts blew the save by allowing a run in the eighth inning. Darvish leads the team with seven wins but he hasn't won since May 16th against Detroit.
Adrian Beltre, 3B6/2/2013 5:11:00 PM
Description: Texas manager Ron Washington believes Adrian Beltre will return to the lineup sometime during the team's next series. SOURCE: Jeff Wilson, Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus has been inserted into Sunday's lineup, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Insight: Andrus has been dealing with back soreness for a week and wasn't initially in Sunday's lineup, but he was feeling good this morning and forced his way into the lineup.
Adrian Beltre, 3BHot6/2/2013 12:02:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre (hamstring) is sitting out Sunday.
Insight: The third baseman hurt his hamstring running the bases in the fourth inning but didn't come out until the game was going into the 10th Saturday night. Beltre is day-to-day.
Elvis Andrus, SSCold6/2/2013 12:00:00 PM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus is out of the lineup Sunday.
Insight: His day off likely is related to the 8-for-46 (.174) slump he is currently mired in. Jurickson Profar will start at shortstop, leaving him three starts shy of gaining position eligibility there.
A.J. Pierzynski, C6/2/2013 10:15:00 AM
Description: Rangers catcher A.J. Pierzynski is 7-for-32 (.219) in his career against Royals starter Ervin Santana.
Insight: After hitting 27 homers last season, Pierzynski has returned to his usual level of production. The catcher has four homers and is hitting .288 with 15 RBI in 35 games. He has a seven-game hitting streak, but his previous numbers against Santana suggest Sunday will be a difficult day for him.

Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre left Saturday's game due to left hamstring tightness.
Insight: Beltre is day-to-day, according to ESPNDallas.com. The third baseman hurt his hamstring running the bases in the fourth inning but didn't come out until the game was going into the 10th.
Nick Tepesch, SP6/1/2013 9:46:00 PM
Description: Rangers right-hander Nick Tepesch allowed one unearned run on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings Saturday against the Royals.
Insight: Tepesch took a no decision and is 3-4 with a 3.44 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. Not bad for a rookie who has one career appearance at Triple-A.
Lance Berkman, 1B6/1/2013 6:13:00 PM
Description: Rangers DH Lance Berkman was tossed from Saturday's game in the first inning for arguing a called third strike.
Insight: Berkman has 1,192 walks and a .408 OBP in 1,855 career games, so he clearly has an excellent grasp of the strike zone. If he thought the pitch was a ball, it probably was.

Description: Texas first baseman Mitch Moreland is a career .118 hitter (2-for17) versus right-hander James Shields.
Insight: Moreland (.285, 11 HR, 26 RBI) is struggling at the plate with just three hits in his last 18 at-bats and this matchup doesn't figure to help.

Description: Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz has a .182 career average (2-for-11) against Royals starter James Shields.
Insight: Cruz has 13 homers in 195 at-bats in 2013, after hitting 24 in 585 at-bats last season. If he's not hitting the long ball, however, Cruz has limited fantasy value and both his hits against Shields are singles.
Elvis Andrus, SS6/1/2013 9:38:00 AM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus is 11-for-23 (.478) with a 1.239 OPS against Kansas City Royals starter James Shields.
Insight: Andrus is hitting .265 this season and has just nine extra-base hits and a .636 OPS. He's producing solidly in two areas - stolen bases (13) and runs scored (33).
Elvis Andrus, SS5/30/2013 10:53:00 AM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus is just 3-for-18 (.167) with four strikeouts against Diamondbacks starter Brandon McCarthy.
Insight: Andrus is hitting .271 this season and has just nine extra-base hits. Wednesday's rainout means that McCarthy will be on the hill Thursday instead, which is bad news for Andrus.
Mitch Moreland, 1B5/30/2013 10:53:00 AM
Description: Texas first baseman Mitch Moreland is a career .400 hitter (6-for15) versus Arizona right-hander Brandon McCarthy.

Lance Berkman, 1B5/30/2013 10:52:00 AM
Description: Texas DH Lance Berkman is hitless in eight at-bats versus Arizona right-hander Brandon McCarthy.
Insight: Berkman is batting .288 and is getting on base at a .397 clip. He's also slugging .438 despite having just four homers, but this is an unfavorable matchup.
Alexi Ogando, RP5/29/2013 5:11:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Alexi Ogando (biceps) will make a rehab start Friday with Double-A Frisco and might only need one start before returning to the rotation, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort-Worth Star Telegram.
Insight: Ogando is 4-2 with a 3.08 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. With Ogando, Matt Harrison, Neftali Felix, Colby Lewis and Martin Perez spending time on the disabled list this season, the Rangers have had to get 19 starts combined out of non-prospect rookies Nick Tepesch, Justin Grimm and Ross Wolf.
Colby Lewis, SP5/29/2013 5:04:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Colby Lewis once again is dealing with triceps soreness and will be shut down for two weeks, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Ian Kinsler, 2B5/29/2013 4:58:00 PM
Description: Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler has developed a stress reaction in his right ribcage and will miss at least two more weeks. He is eligible to come off the disabled list Sunday but has yet to resume baseball activities. SOURCE: T.R. Sullivan, MLB.com

Nelson Cruz, RF5/27/2013 10:30:00 AM
Description: Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz has a .174 career average (4-for-23) against Diamondbacks starter Trevor Cahill.
Insight: Cruz has 12 homers in 182 at-bats in 2013, after hitting 24 in 585 at-bats last season, but has never hit one out of the park against Cahill. If he's not hitting the long ball Cruz has limited fantasy value.
Elvis Andrus, SS5/26/2013 4:08:00 PM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's scheduled start against Seattle.
Insight: Andrus is batting .265, but has crossed the plate 31 times and 12 steals keep his fantasy owners happy. Jurickson Profar will start at shortstop.
Derek Holland, SP5/26/2013 9:53:00 AM
Description: Texas lefty Derek Holland struck out ten Saturday in a win against Seattle.
Insight: Holland surrendered two unearned runs over 6 2/3 innings. His ERA is down to 2.97, easily the lowest of his career.

Description: Texas outfielder David Murphy is a career .303 hitter (20-for-66) with a pair of home runs against Seattle ace Felix Hernandez.
Insight: Murphy has been a platoon player over the last few seasons, but he was handed a starting job after Josh Hamilton signed with the Angels. He has hit just .223 with a .674 OPS, but this matchup might help his numbers.
Nick Tepesch, SP5/24/2013 4:41:00 PM
Description: Rangers right-hander Nick Tepesch had no issues with the blister on his right middle finger during a bullpen session Thursday and has been confirmed as the scheduled starter for Sunday at Seattle. SOURCE: Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Insight: Tepesch is 3-4 with a 3.98 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP in 43 innings this season. He last started on May 17.
Geovany Soto, C5/24/2013 10:02:00 AM
Description: Texas catcher Geovany Soto could get a start on Friday against Seattle starter Joe Saunders as he's a career 4-for-6 with a double and a home run against the left-hander.
Insight: Soto is 5-for-12 in his last three starts with a pair of homers. Everyday starter A.J. Pierzynski is just 4-for-16 versus Saunders.
Nelson Cruz, RF5/22/2013 9:53:00 AM
Description: Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz has a .174 career average (4-for-23) against Diamondbacks starter Trevor Cahill.
Insight: Cruz has 12 homers in 182 at-bats in 2013, after hitting 24 in 585 at-bats last season, but has never hit one out of the park against Cahill. If he's not hitting the long ball Cruz has limited fantasy value.
Nick Tepesch, SP5/21/2013 5:09:00 PM
Description: Rangers right-hander Nick Tepesch has been scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday due to a blister on his right middle finger, according to Anthony Andro of FoxSportsSouthwest.com. Ross Wolf will make a spot start.
Insight: Rangers GM Jon Daniels said that Tepesch's blister is already healing and the rookie could start as soon as Sunday. Tepesch is 3-4 with a 3.98 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP in 43 innings this season.
Elvis Andrus, SS5/21/2013 10:00:00 AM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus is hitless on six at-bats versus Oakland starter Dan Straily.
Insight: Andrus has raised his average to .276. The shortstop continues to be a source for runs scored and stolen bases, but his .664 OPS is a drain on power categories. This is not a favorable matchup.
Jurickson Profar, SS5/20/2013 8:33:00 PM
Description: Texas manager Ron Washington told ESPN Dallas that Jurickson Profar will split playing time at second base with Leury Garcia while Ian Kinsler is out.
Insight: The 20-year-old Profar went 3-for-17 in a short stint with Texas at the end of last season. It's no secret that Profar is the team's best long-term option at second base so if he's playing well, we'd expect Washington to give him the most reps.
Derek Lowe, SP5/20/2013 8:23:00 PM
Description: Texas righthander Derek Lowe has been designated for assignment.
Insight: The 38-year-old has given up 11 runs in his last five relief outings (18.56 ERA). He hasn't been a productive fantasy contributor since 2010 (16 wins, 4.00 ERA).
A.J. Pierzynski, C5/20/2013 8:15:00 PM
Description: The Rangers are expected to activate catcher A.J. Pierzynski from the disabled list on Tuesday. SOURCE: Anthony Andro, Fox Sports Southwest
Insight: He's been out with a strained oblique. Geovany Soto (.220, 2 HR, 5 RBI) won't see as much playing time now that Pierzynski is healthy again.
Nelson Cruz, RF5/20/2013 10:30:00 AM
Description: Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz has a .083 career average (1-for-12) against Oakland right-hander Bartolo Colon.
Insight: Cruz already has 11 homers in 159 at-bats in 2013 after hitting 24 all last season. However, he hasn't had a multi-hit game since May 2 (14 games). Fantasy owners should avoid this matchup.
Adrian Beltre, 3B5/20/2013 10:26:00 AM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre is a career .346 hitter (9-for-26) with a pair of home runs against Arizona starter Trevor Cahill.
Insight: Beltre (.286, 10 HR, 29 RBI) went 5-for-14 in the series against Seattle and should be able to extend a modest four-game hitting streak against Cahill.
Adrian Beltre, 3BHot5/20/2013 10:25:00 AM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre is a career .317 hitter (19-for-60) against Oakland veteran right-hander Bartolo Colon with five home runs and a 1.006 OPS
Insight: Beltre (.291, 9 HR, 28 RBI) was 8-for-16 in the recent four-game series with Detroit and should continue to rake against Colon and the A's.
Jurickson Profar, SS5/19/2013 4:46:00 PM
Description: Rangers infielder Jurickson Profar, who is the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball according to MLB.com's rankings, officially has been called up to the majors, according to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com. He'll fill in for Ian Kinsler, who was placed on the DL with a right intercostal strain.
Insight: Profar hit .281 with 14 homers, 16 steals and a .368 OBP at Double-A Frisco last year, and he has been hitting well with Triple-A Round Rock after a slow start. He's hitting .278 with seven doubles, two triples, four homers and a .370 OBP. Profar should be added in most leagues.
Ian Kinsler, 2B5/19/2013 4:42:00 PM
Description: Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right intercostal strain. The team called up top prospect Jurickson Profar to take his place on the roster. SOURCE: T.R. Sullivan, MLB.com
Insight: Kinsler has not started the last two games due to the injury. Profar is considered the No. 1 overall prospect in the game by MLB.com and he should be added in most leagues.
Jurickson Profar, SS5/19/2013 2:30:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Jurickson Profar, who is the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball according to MLB.com's rankings, has been summoned to Arlington in case the team needs to place Ian Kinsler (ribs) on the DL.
If Kinsler is placed on the DL, Profar would play every day and should be added in all leagues.
Lance Berkman, 1B5/19/2013 11:26:00 AM
Description: Texas DH Lance Berkman has three multi-hit games over the last four days.
Insight: Berkman is batting .299 and is getting on base at a .422 clip. He's also slugging .465 despite having just three homers.
Elvis Andrus, SSHot5/19/2013 10:43:00 AM
Description: Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus is just 4-for-22 (.182) in his career against Tigers starter Doug Fister.
Insight: Andrus finally has had some better luck recently and has raised his average to .282. The shortstop has a career-high 24.8 percent line-drive rate, but was hitting .262 before going 5-for-5 Saturday. Fister usually holds him in check, however.
Nelson Cruz, RFHot5/19/2013 10:39:00 AM
Description: Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz has a .438 career average against Doug Fister of the Tigers.
Insight: After hitting just 24 homers in 585 at-bats last year, Cruz already has 11 in 155 at-bats in 2013. The outfielder has gone 7-for-16 with one round-tripper against Fister.
David Murphy, LFCold5/19/2013 10:37:00 AM
Description: If you have held onto David Murphy through his crippling slump this season, Sunday would be a good day to start him. He'll face Tigers starter Doug Fister.
Insight: Murphy has been a platoon player over the last few seasons, but he was handed a starting job after Josh Hamilton signed with the Angels. He has hit just .205 with a .617 OPS. Murphy does have a .444 average (8-for-18) with four homers and eight RBI against Fister, however.
Ian Kinsler, 2B5/18/2013 4:42:00 PM
Description: Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler (ribs) is out of the lineup again Saturday, according to Anthony Andro of foxsportssouthwest.com.

Ian Kinsler, 2B5/18/2013 11:23:00 AM
Description: Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler missed Friday's game with bruised ribs and is questionable for Saturday's game against Detroit.
Insight: Kinsler is off to a hot start. He's hitting .302 with seven homers and 20 RBI in 39 games. Kinsler hasn't hit over .300 for a full season since 2008 (.319).
Lance Berkman, 1B5/18/2013 10:10:00 AM
Description: Texas DH Lance Berkman is a career .385 hitter with a 1.115 OPS against Detroit starter Anibal Sanchez.
Insight: The oft-injured first baseman/DH is batting .293 with an .871 OPS and should be in fantasy lineups for this favorable matchup. He's yet to play first base, so he's only eligible as a DH.
Ian Kinsler, 2B5/17/2013 7:49:00 PM
Description: Ian Kinsler will be out of the lineup Friday night against Detroit. The Texas second baseman has bruised ribs.
Insight: Kinsler is off to a hot start. He's hitting .302 with seven homers and 20 RBI in 39 games. Kinsler hasn't hit over .300 for a full season since 2008 (.319).
Ian Kinsler, 2B5/17/2013 10:00:00 AM
Description: Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler is 6-for-10 against Detroit starter Rick Porcello with a couple of extra base hits and a 1.445 OPS. He's also stolen two bases against the Tigers' right-hander.
Insight: Kinsler has added a .300 batting average to he repertoire which makes him one of the top fantasy second baseman.
Alexi Ogando, RP5/16/2013 5:06:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Alexi Ogando has been placed on the disabled list with biceps tendinitis.
Insight: Ogando is 4-2 with a 3.08 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP this season. Texas has an entire rotation of starters on the DL -- Ogando, Matt Harrison, Neftali Felix, Colby Lewis and Martin Perez. Josh Lindblom will start Monday, but Perez is on his way back from a fractured forearm and could join the rotation soon.
Jurickson Profar, SS5/16/2013 2:31:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Jurickson Profar, who is the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball according to MLB.com's rankings, is hitting .250 with 24 strikeouts and a .720 OPS in 34 games with Triple-A Round Rock.
Insight: Profar hit .368 with 14 homers, 16 steals and a .368 OBP at Double-A Frisco last year, but he struggled this spring with a .216 average and zero homers in 51 at-bats. With Mitch Moreland hitting .290 with nine homers and Profar slumping at Triple-A, there's no need to shift Ian Kinsler to first base to call up Profar anytime soon.
Nelson Cruz, RF5/16/2013 10:50:00 AM
Description: Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz' power has returned to his past levels this season after an outage in 2012, but he's unlikely to do much with the stick Thursday with Detroit starter Justin Verlander on the bump.
Insight: Cruz hits a lot of flyballs (42.3 percent FB rate), and has a career HR/FB of 16.1 percent, but last year that declined to 13.1 percent and he hit just 24 homers. He's back up to a 21.3 percent HR/FB and has 10 homers in 2013. However, Verlander has limited him to two hits in 15 at-bats (.133) and struck him out four times.
Elvis Andrus, SS5/16/2013 10:43:00 AM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander, who will be on the hill Thursday, has held Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus to a .188 average (3-for-16) in their career meetings.
Insight: Andrus has a strong line-drive rate of 23.7 percent, but he has been incredibly unlucky this season. He has lined out on 14 of his 33 liners. He has a career .678 average on line drives, and if he picked up just three more hits on liners this season, he'd be hitting .285 instead of .267. His luck should turn eventually, but he's unlikely to get good wood on the ball against Verlander Thursday.
Ian Kinsler, 2B5/16/2013 10:41:00 AM
Description: Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler is 2-for-17 over his last four games and he'll face Justin Verlander Thursday against the Tigers.
Insight: Kinsler is 3-for-25 (.120) with six strikeouts against Verlander. His overall numbers -- .304, seven homers, 20 RBI, 22 runs, three steals, 16/12 K/BB -- are fantastic, but he's doubtful to produce anything worthwhile Thursday.
Nelson Cruz, RF5/15/2013 7:31:00 PM
Description: Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz hit his 10th homer of the season Wednesday against Oakland. The outfielder has three homers in his last five games.
Insight: Cruz hits a lot of flyballs (42.3 percent FB rate), and has a career HR/FB of 16.1 percent, but last year that declined to 13.1 percent and he hit just 24 homers. He's back up to a 21.3 percent HR/FB in 2013.
Alexi Ogando, RP5/15/2013 7:28:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Alexi Ogando limited Oakland to four hits and two runs in six innings Wednesday to pick up win No. 4.
Insight: Ogando struck out three and walked one. With a 6.7 K/9, a 3.44 BB/9 and a 0.91 HR/9, Ogando has a 4.16 FIP, but he has used a .262 BABIP and a 79.3 percent strand rate to post a 3.08 ERA.
Nelson Cruz, RF5/14/2013 11:50:00 AM
Description: Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz has gone 1-for-10 against Tuesday's opposing starter Bartolo Colon.
Insight: Cruz's bat woke up in the two-game series against Houston with a pair of home runs (doesn't everyone's?) and he went 1-for-3 in the series opener with Oakland, but this is an unfavorable matchup.
Adrian Beltre, 3BHot5/14/2013 11:46:00 AM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre is a career .316 hitter (18-for-57) against Oakland veteran right-hander Bartolo Colon with five home runs and a 1.006 OPS
Insight: Beltre (.260, 8 HR, 23 RBI) is on a modest five-game hitting streak and has raised his batting average by 26 points over the past week. We like his hot bat in this matchup.
Adrian Beltre, 3BHot5/12/2013 6:19:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre enjoyed a 4-for-5 afternoon Sunday against Houston.
Insight: Three of the hits were for extra bases including a three-run bomb in the fifth inning. Beltre (.260, 8 HR, 23 RBI) has raised his batting average by 26 points since Tuesday.
Colby Lewis, SP5/11/2013 8:34:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Colby Lewis is dealing with soreness in his right triceps after making a rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday. SOURCE: ESPN Dallas
Insight: Lewis might have his next start pushed back a few days. He's still a few weeks away from returning.
A.J. Pierzynski, C5/9/2013 10:33:00 AM
Description: Rangers catcher A.J. Pierzynski has been moved to the disabled list.
Insight: Pierzynski (.263, 4 HR, 11 RBI) is out with a strained oblique. The move is backdated to May 6th, meaning that Pierzynski would be eligible to return on May 21st. Of course, it's possible that he could need more time.
A.J. Pierzynski, C5/8/2013 7:35:00 PM
Description: Jeff Wilson from the Fort Worth Star Telegram is reporting that Texas catcher A.J. Pierzynski went for an MRI on Wednesday.
Insight: Pierzynski has been bothered by tightness in his right oblique. While he's out, Geovany Soto should see more playing time behind the plate.
Josh Lindblom, RP5/8/2013 3:34:00 PM
Description: Texas Rangers minor league right-hander Josh Lindblom has apparently figured it out at Triple-A Round Rock where he is 4-0 with a 1.96 ERA and 0.845 WHIP.
Insight: Lindblom was acquired from Philadelphia in the Michael Young trade and struggled in spring training, but his 31 strikeouts to just 10 walks indicates he's found it. Unfortunately, the Rangers are No. 2 overall in team ERA, but it looks like Lindblom is ready to help if needed.
Lance Berkman, 1B5/8/2013 11:08:00 AM
Description: Texas DH Lance Berkman is a career .290 hitter with a 1.147 OPS, including four home runs, against Milwaukee starter Kyle Lohse.
Insight: The oft-injured DH/1B has yet to play in the field which could explain why it's already May and he's yet to spend time on the disabled list. Berkman is batting .300 with an .882 OPS and should be in fantasy lineups for this favorable matchup.
A.J. Pierzynski, C5/7/2013 7:18:00 PM
Description: The Rangers scratched catcher A.J. Pierzynski from Tuesday's lineup with tightness in his right oblique muscle.
Insight: Pierzynski dealt with the same injury last week. He's hitting .263 with four homers and a .708 OPS this season, but his 27.8 percent line-drive rate is one of the best in baseball and should help him raise his average soon.
A.J. Pierzynski, C5/6/2013 12:28:00 PM
Description: Rangers catcher A.J. Pierzynski is just 3-for-18 (.167) against Cubs starter Scott Feldman.
Insight: Pierzynski isn't quite hitting up to the level of the man he is replacing, Mike Napoli (6 HR, 31 RBI in Boston), but he's batting a respectable .263 with four homers and 11 RBI. This matchup, however, isn;t likely to help those numbers.
Yu Darvish, SP5/5/2013 7:51:00 PM
Description: Texas righthander Yu Darvish gave up home runs to David Ortiz and David Ross early in the game but settled down to finish with 14 strikeouts Sunday against Boston.

Description: Texas left fielder David Murphy is just 1-for-19 over his career against Angels lefty Jason Vargas with five strikeouts and a .195 OPS.

Description: Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre is an ugly 2-for-21 (.095) against Angels left-hander Jason Vargas.
Insight: Very unusual considering Beltre is a career .283 hitter with an .831 OPS against southpaws. He's started slowly this season (.239, .721 OPS) so this matchup should be avoided.

Insight: Cruz is batting .274, but his OPS is a little light at .764 (career OPS is .819). Tuesday's matchup comes at a good time as he's just 3-for-16 over his last four games.

Insight: Harrison (0-2, 8.44 ERA) was easily the team's best starting pitcher last season (18-11, 3.29) so this is a crushing blow to the Texas rotation. Fantasy owners can't be too thrilled either.
