New York Yankees Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Masahiro Tanaka, SP7/10/2014 9:31:00 PM
Description: Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka has been diagnosed with a partially torn UCL.
Insight: He'll try six weeks of rehab and PRP injections, but the odds are not good for his return. Think Dr. James Andrews. It's a disaster for both the Yankees and fantasy owners to lose a hurler like Tanaka (12-4, 2.51 ERA, 1.005 WHIP).
Brett Gardner, LF7/10/2014 4:17:00 PM
Description: Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner wa out of the lineup due to an abdominal strain on Wednesday and is doubtful for Thursday's game against Cleveland.
Insight: Gardner was checked for a hernia, but a doctor ruled it out. The left fielder has been one of New York's top players in 2014, batting .287 with eight homers, 36 RBI, 54 runs and 15 steals.
Carlos Beltran, RF7/10/2014 1:44:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran suffered two small facial fractures in a Wednesday afternoon batting practice incident, but may not need a disabled list stint.
Insight: Beltran hopes to be back in a couple of days, though there is a concern if he also suffered a concussion.
Carlos Beltran, RF7/9/2014 5:49:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran (knee) was in Wednesday's lineup after sitting out the past two games, but he was scratched after being hit below the eye by a ball. SOURCE: Meredith Marakovits, YES Network
Insight: While taking batting practice, Beltran hit a ball off the bottom of the screen and it bounced back and hit him. The injury just about sums up the day the Yankees have had -- Masahiro Tanaka was also placed on the disabled list with elbow soreness and Brett Gardner was scratched with an abdominal strain. Over his last 40 games, Beltran has hit .170 (25-for-147) with four homers, 15 RBI and a .542 OPS. He hasn't played the field since May 11 because of a bone spur in his elbow and he's been dealing with swelling in his right knee. He had surgery on the same knee in 2010.
Masahiro Tanaka, SP7/9/2014 5:45:00 PM
Description: The Yankees have placed Masahiro Tanaka on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow soreness, according to mlb.com.
Insight: Tanaka has allowed nine runs on 19 hits and struck out eight in his last 13 2/3 innings. With CC Sabathia likely done for the season, Ivan Nova recovering from Tommy John surgery and Michael Pineda out indefinitely, the Yankees cannot afford to lose Tanaka for an extended period of time. He traveled to New York to have an MRI and the Yankees are waiting for the results.
Brett Gardner, LF7/9/2014 4:17:00 PM
Description: Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner is out of the lineup due to an abdominal strain, according to Bryan Hoch of mlb.com.
Insight: Gardner was checked for a hernia, but a doctor ruled it out. The left fielder has been one of New York's top players in 2014, batting .287 with eight homers, 36 RBI, 54 runs and 15 steals.
Carlos Beltran, RF7/8/2014 4:29:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran is out of the lineup again Tuesday with swelling in his right knee.
Insight: Over his last 40 games, Beltran has hit .170 (25-for-147) with four homers, 15 RBI and a .542 OPS. He hasn't played the field since May 11 because of a bone spur in his elbow and now he has a knee injury to worry about. He had surgery on the same knee in 2010.
Carlos Beltran, RF7/7/2014 6:12:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran is out of the lineup Monday with swelling in his right knee, according to Bryan Hoch of mlb.com.
Steve Pearce, RF7/7/2014 4:17:00 PM
Description: Orioles 1B/OF Steve Pearce is the odd man out with the Orioles on the road in a National League city.
Insight: Slumping Chris Davis will start at first base and Nelson Cruz in the outfield leaving Pearce to a pinch hit role. Pearce is having an excellent season, batting .326 with 10 homers and 30 RBI in just 172 at-bats.
Brian McCann, C7/6/2014 1:30:00 PM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann tested his foot this morning and will play Sunday.
Insight: McCann has 10 home runs this season, but that's about all that's gone right for him. He's batting .224 with a .656 OPS.
Alfonso Soriano, RF7/6/2014 12:50:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder Alfonso Soriano has been designated for assignment.
Insight: Soriano was batting .221 with six homers and 23 RBI which simply wasn't enough production for a guy with an $18 million salary.
Alfonso Soriano, RF/DH7/6/2014 11:20:00 AM
Description: Yankees outfielder Alfonso Soriano has poor lifetime numbers against Twins right-hander Ricky Nolasco (.179 average, 5-for-28)
Insight: Soriano is sporting a symmetrical .200/.200/.200 slash line with no extra-base hits over his last 10 games, so he wouldn't have been the strongest play even if he had good numbers against the Minnesota righty. As it is, he does have two homers against Nolasco, but he's still not worth starting.
Carlos Beltran, RF7/6/2014 11:14:00 AM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran has a .340 lifetime average against Twins right-hander Ricky Nolasco (16-for-47).
Insight: Beltran hasn't been close to what the Yankees expected him to be this season, but he's a good enough hitter to turn things around quickly. Though he's struck out 11 times against Nolasco, he also has a home and 16 hits against him, so there's a chance he has a productive afternoon.
Brian McCann, C7/6/2014 10:17:00 AM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann is expected to miss another game Sunday after injuring his left foot in Thursday's contest.
Insight: McCann has 10 home runs this season, but that's about all that's gone right for him. He's batting .224 with a .656 OPS.
Brett Gardner, LF7/5/2014 11:51:00 AM
Description: Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner will get a routine day off on Saturday.
Insight: Gardner has already tied his career high in home runs as he's putting together a solid season - .287, 8 HR, 34 RBI, 52 runs, 15 SB, .794 OPS.
Brian Roberts, 2BHot7/4/2014 8:56:00 PM
Description: Yankees second baseman Brian Roberts has gone 16-for-51 (.314) with six doubles, a triple and two homers in his last 13 games.
Insight: Roberts went 4-for-5 with three doubles, a triple, one RBI and two runs Friday at Minnesota. He's still hitting just .248 with a .702 OPS this year, however.
CC Sabathia, SP7/4/2014 8:03:00 PM
Description: Yankees manager Joe Girardi doesn't expect starter CC Sabathia (knee) to return this season, according to Daniel Barbarisi of the Wall Street Journal.
Insight: Sabathia experienced renewed swelling in his knee and was shut down indefinitely on Thursday. The left-hander's first four years with New York were excellent, as he went 74-29 with a 3.22 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and one World Series title. However, he's recorded a 17-17 record, a 4.87 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP in the last two seasons.
Brian McCann, C7/4/2014 9:49:00 AM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann is expected to sit on Friday after injuring his left foot in Thursday's contest versus Minnesota, according to a New York Daily News report.
Insight: McCann has 10 home runs this season, but that's about all that's gone right for him. He's batting .224 with a .656 OPS.
Carlos Beltran, RF7/3/2014 10:52:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer Thursday at Minnesota.
Insight: Beltran has gone 7-for-20 with a double and two home runs in his last five games, but he's still hitting just .222 with a .693 OPS this year.
CC Sabathia, SP7/3/2014 5:59:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia (knee) experienced renewed swelling and will have another MRI, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News.
Insight: Sabathia has allowed seven runs (five earned) on eight hits in six innings during his two rehab starts so far but was hoping to be back immediately after the All-Star break. He could be out into August after this setback.
Mark Teixeira, 1B7/3/2014 5:09:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is in the lineup Thursday.
Insight: Teixeira didn't play Wednesday after having his knee drained Tuesday. He's put up 15 homers and 41 RBI this season, but he has just five doubles, a .239 average and an .810 OPS in 257 plate appearances.
Yangervis Solarte, 3B7/3/2014 12:34:00 PM
Description: The Yankees have demoted third baseman Yangervis Solarte to Triple-A.
Insight: Solarte went 40-for-119 (.336) with 10 doubles, four homers, 23 RBI, 17 runs and a 16/17 K/BB in his first 34 games this season, but he went 23-for-123 (.187) with two homers and seven RBI since then. In his place, the Yankees have called up Zelous Wheeler, a career minor leaguer like Solarte who hit .299 with seven home runs with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season.
Brett Gardner, LFHot7/2/2014 5:10:00 PM
Description: Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner tied a career high with his eighth homer of the year Wednesday against the Rays.
Insight: Gardner needed 539 at-bats to get to eight last season; he's done it in 309 this year and is hitting .288 with 50 runs, 15 steals and a .793 OPS.
Brian McCann, C7/2/2014 5:09:00 PM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and a walk Wednesday against the Rays.
Insight: McCann has 10 home runs this season, but that's about all that's gone right for him. He's batting .224 with a .658 OPS.
Hiroki Kuroda, SP7/1/2014 10:28:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda lost to the Rays Tuesday despite allowing two runs over eight innings.
Insight: Kuroda has a career record of 73-76 even though he's pitched to a 3.46 ERA, so he should be used to tough-luck losses by now. The right-hander has pitched better as of late, posting a 3.26 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP since the start of June, but he's only won one game in that span.
Steve Pearce, RFHot7/1/2014 10:15:00 PM
Description: Orioles 1B/OF Steve Pearce homered again Tuesday against the Rangers.
Insight: The 31-year-old hit two round-trippers Monday night and now has a .327 average, 10 homers, 27 RBI and a .988 OPS in 150 at-bats. He's been batting second in front of the Adam Jones-Nelson Cruz-Chris Davis trio so he's been getting a lot of pitches to hit and he hasn't been missing them. Pearce has been a platoon player at best in his career because of his inability to hit righties, but he's batting over .300 with five home runs against them this season.
Brian McCann, C7/1/2014 9:54:00 AM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann is 4-for-8 with a pair of home run against Tampa Bay left-hander David Price.
Insight: Interestingly, the left-handed McCann is a better hitter against southpaws (.301) than right-handers (.189) this season. Unfortunately, he owns a .221 batting average because 190 of 263 at-bats have been against right-handers.
Steve Pearce, RFHot6/30/2014 10:32:00 PM
Description: Orioles 1B/OF Steve Pearce went 2-for-5 with two homer and four RBI Monday against the Rangers.
Insight: The 31-year-old journeyman has put together his best season in 2014, hitting .327 with nine homers, 25 RBI and a .977 OPS in 147 at-bats. The O's have been using him in the No. 2 hole in front of Nelson Cruz.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF6/30/2014 9:25:00 AM
Description: New York center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury is a stunning 7-for-10 against Rays right-hander Chris Archer.
Insight: Ellsbury's batting average has been steadily moving up over the past four weeks as he's batted .312 with an .800 OPS and today's matchup should continue the trend.
Masahiro Tanaka, SPHot6/28/2014 10:06:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka threw a complete game against the Red Sox Saturday night, but he took the loss after allowing a go-ahead solo homer to Mike Napoli in the top of the ninth.
Insight: Napoli hit a pitch into the first row in right-center field to put Boston ahead 2-1. Tanaka has been dominant this year, but home runs have been somewhat of an issue. In 106 2/3 innings, he's allowed 13 of them (1.1 HR/9) but 11 were solo shots.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF6/25/2014 10:24:00 PM
Description: New York center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury torched the Blue Jays for three hits in Wednesday night's win.
Insight: Ellsbury's batting average is down a few ticks from last year but he still steals plenty of bases (21 thefts in 75 games this season). Any fantasy team could use a player like Ellsbury (.286, 4 HR, 33 RBI).
Brett Gardner, LFHot6/24/2014 10:18:00 AM
Description: Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner is hitting .315 against lefties this season and owns a .500 average against Toronto starter Mark Buehrle.
Insight: Gardner is 10-for-20 with a double, a triple and a homer against Buehrle, who will start Tuesday against New York.
Mark Teixeira, 1B 6/23/2014 10:09:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira's solo homer accounted for the only run New York scored against the Blue Jays Monday night.
Insight: The Yankees had just three hits off rookie Marcus Stroman. Teixeira has hit .247 with 13 homers, 36 RBI and an .842 OPS this season, similar to his production level from 2010-12 but not close to what he accomplished from 2004-09.
Derek Jeter, SS6/23/2014 4:14:00 PM
Description: New York shortstop Derek Jeter is not in Monday's starting lineup.
Insight: Jeter was just 1-for-12 in the series just completed against Baltimore. He hasn't done much this year (.267, 1 HR, 16 RBI in 65 games) but at least he's been able to stay healthy for his "goodbye tour."
Yangervis Solarte, 3B6/23/2014 4:13:00 PM
Description: Yankees 3B Yangervis Solarte is not in Monday's starting lineup.
Insight: He hasn't produced a hit since June 8 (27 at-bats). His batting average has dropped 36 points. His hot-hitting April (.303) and May (.296) is but a distant memory. Kelly Johnson will play at the hot corner with Brian Roberts at second base.
Mark Teixeira, 1BCold6/22/2014 6:07:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira's X-rays came back negative, according to Daniel Barbarisi of the Wall Street Journal.
Insight: Teixeira took a pitch off his foot and had to leave Sunday's game. The first baseman said he thought he broke some toes when it first happened, but he'll be OK.
Ichiro Suzuki, RF6/22/2014 10:40:00 AM
Description: Fantasy owners should avoid New York right fielder Ichiro Suzuki Sunday against Baltimore.
Insight: He's only 2-for-18 against today's starting pitcher, Chris Tillman. Suzuki has had a nice year offensively, contributing a .307 average in 61 games. We're not expecting much from him on Sunday, however.
Derek Jeter, SS6/22/2014 10:36:00 AM
Description: New York shortstop Derek Jeter has done very well in his career against Baltimore starter Chris Tillman.
Insight: He's gone 6-for-13 against Tillman with two RBI. Jeter hasn't done much this year (.271, 1 HR, 16 RBI in 64 games) but at least he's been able to stay healthy.
Michael Pineda, SP6/21/2014 6:54:00 PM
Description: New York starter Michael Pineda wasn't able to throw on Saturday. He's still dealing with inflammation in his right shoulder. SOURCE: ESPN New York
Insight: With all the setbacks he's been having, it's unlikely we'll see Pineda (2-2, 1.83 ERA) on the mound again until very late in the season. Fantasy owners should have moved on a long time ago.
Steve Pearce, RFHot6/21/2014 11:45:00 AM
Description: Orioles 1B/OF Steve Pearce doesn't get much attention with the likes of Chris Davis, Adam Jones and Manny Machado in the Orioles lineup, but Pearce has been an effective option this season.
Insight: Pearce is hitting .327 with five homers, 17 RBI and a .933 OPS and is beginning to see regular playing time. He's never faced today's starter for the Yankees Vidal Nuno.
Brian McCann, C6/21/2014 11:41:00 AM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann is not in Saturday afternoon's starting lineup.
Insight: Just a routine day off for McCann. Francisco Cervelli, just activated from the 60-day disabled list, will get the start behind the plate. Cervelli has little-to-no fantasy value.
Yangervis Solarte, 3B6/21/2014 11:38:00 AM
Description: Yankees 3B Yangervis Solarte is not in Monday's starting lineup.
Insight: He hasn't produced a hit since June 8 (27 at-bats). His batting average has dropped 36 points. His hot-hitting April (.303) and May (.296) is but a distant memory. Kelly Johnson will play at the hot corner with Brian Roberts at second base.
Carlos Beltran, RF6/20/2014 10:55:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran hit a walk-off three-run homer off Orioles closer Zach Britton Friday night.
Insight: Beltran has been forced to DH due to his elbow injury, but he's gone 6-for-17 with two doubles, two homers and six RBI in his last five games.
Kelly Johnson, 3B6/20/2014 10:46:00 AM
Description: Yankees utility man Kelly Johson left Thursday's game with bruised fingers on his left hand and is questionable for Friday's game against Baltimore.
Insight: Johnson's X-rays were negative. The 32-year-old has been a non-factor in fantasy leagues this season, batting .232 with four homers, 16 RBI and a .706 OPS.
Mark Teixeira, 1BCold6/20/2014 9:53:00 AM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has never hit well against Baltimore right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez..
Insight: The Yankees first baseman is just 1-for-16 (.063) with seven strikeouts over his career. Teixeira is back to his usual self, hitting home runs, but with a low batting average. He's a lifetime .277 hitter, but just a .249 hitter over the past five seasons.
Kelly Johnson, 3B6/19/2014 10:21:00 PM
Description: Yankees utility man Kelly Johson left Thursday's game with bruised fingers on his left hand, according to Andrew Marchand of espnny.com.

Insight: Gardner has gone 19-for-56 (.339) with three homers, six RBI and nine runs in his last 13 games.
Brian McCann, C6/18/2014 10:15:00 PM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann had his biggest game in pinstripes Wednesday night against the Blue Jays, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a homer, a walk and five RBI.
Insight: McCann entered Wednesday's game hitting .174 in June and .220 on the season. He has eight homers and 33 RBI in 226 at-bats and has been a huge disappointment at the plate so far.
Steve Pearce, RF6/18/2014 6:19:00 PM
Description: Orioles 1B/OF Steve Pearce has gone 4-for-7 with three doubles, a homer, three RBI and three walks in his last two games.
Insight: In 105 at-bats this season, Pearce is hitting .324 with five homers, 15 RBI and a .930 OPS. He could find himself in the lineup more often going forward.
CC Sabathia, SP6/18/2014 10:56:00 AM
Description: New York starter CC Sabathia is about six weeks away from coming off the disabled list. SOURCE: New York Daily News
Insight: Sabathia (3-4, 5.28 ERA) is throwing again but it's a gradual process. He's been sidelined over a month with right knee inflammation.
Brett Gardner, LFHot6/17/2014 10:44:00 PM
Description: Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner homered for the second straight game Tuesday against the Blue Jays.
Insight: Gardner is quietly having his best season, batting .280 with six homers, 28 RBI, 40 runs and 14 steals. His career high in home runs is eight, set last year.
Masahiro Tanaka, SPHot6/17/2014 10:35:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka had his fifth game of the season with double-digit strikeouts Tuesday against Toronto.
Insight: Tanaka won his MLB-leading 11th game after allowing one run on six hits and striking out 10 in six innings Tuesday night. He has a 113/16 K/BB ratio in 99 2/3 innings.
Francisco Cervelli, C6/17/2014 7:23:00 PM
Description: New York catcher Francisco Cervelli has been activated from the 60-day DL.
Insight: A strained hamstring has kept Cervelli out since April 13th. The Yankees demoted John Ryan Murphy (.286, 1 HR, 8 RBI) to Triple-A Scranton to make room for Cervelli on the active roster. As Brian McCann's backup behind the plate, Cervelli (.188, 0 HR, 1 RBI) shouldn't expect to see much playing time.
CC Sabathia, SP6/17/2014 5:25:00 PM
Description: Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia (right knee) threw a bullpen session Monday, limiting his pitches to fastballs and changeups. SOURCE: Meredith Marakovits, YES Network
Insight: Sabathia, who went 3-4 with a 5.28 ERA prior to his knee injury, will throw all of his pitches in a bullpen session Wednesday and could be a few weeks away from returning. The left-hander has averaged just 89.6 mph with his fastball this season, down from 91.3 mph in 2013 and 93.9 mph in 2011. He's struggled to cope with the loss of velocity and allowed 38 home runs in his last 257 innings (1.33 HR/9). Only three starters have allowed more HR/9 than Sabathia since the start of 2013.
Mark Teixeira, 1B6/15/2014 2:10:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira (ribcage) is in the lineup Sunday against the Athletics.

Mark Teixeira, 1B6/14/2014 9:51:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has been scratched from New York's lineup Saturday night due to left ribcage tightness, according to Bryan Hoch of mlb.com.
Insight: Teixeira will miss his chance to face Scott Kazmir, a pitcher he's gone 11-for-20 (.550) with four doubles and two homers against in the past. The Yankees first baseman has hit .241 with 11 homers and 31 RBI in 162 at-bats this season, but he's been plagued by a hamstring strain, soreness in his surgically repaired wrist and now a tight ribcage.
Alfonso Soriano, RF/DHCold6/14/2014 12:38:00 PM
Description: New York OF/DH Alfonso Soriano should take a seat on Saturday in an unfavorable matchup.
Insight: Soriano is 1-for-12 with seven strikeouts against Kazmir. So far, Soriano has disappointed fantasy owners with his .228 batting average, six homers and 22 RBI.
Mark Teixeira, 1B6/14/2014 12:36:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is 11-for-20 with a pair of homers, eight RBI and eight walks against Oakland starter Scott Kazmir.

Michael Pineda, SP6/13/2014 8:23:00 PM
Description: The Yankees won't get Michael Pineda back until August. SOURCE: Dan Barbarisi, Wall Street Journal
Insight: Back and shoulder issues have sidelined Pineda (2-2, 1.89 ERA) since late April. He's not worth holding onto at this point.
Heath Bell, RP6/13/2014 8:18:00 PM
Description: The Yankees have agreed to a minor league deal with former Padres and Marlins closer Heath Bell. SOURCE: Mark Feinsand, New York Daily News
Insight: Bell recently opted out of his contract with Baltimore. He'll start off with Triple-A Scranton but could make his way to the majors later this season. The 36-year-old is not a fantasy option.
Alfonso Soriano, RF/DH6/13/2014 7:59:00 PM
Description: New York OF/DH Alfonso Soriano will take a seat Friday against the A's.
Insight: He's in a platoon with Ichiro Suzuki (.313, 0 HR, 8 RBI) in right field and usually only starts against lefties. Soriano's fantasy value is very limited at this point.
Brian McCann, C6/12/2014 7:37:00 PM
Description: New York catcher Brian McCann won't participate in Thursday's series opener against Seattle. SOURCE: Newsday
Insight: McCann is hitting only .194 this month with one extra base hit. John Ryan Murphy (.296, 1 HR, 8 RBI) will get his 16th start behind the plate.
Shawn Kelley, RP6/11/2014 8:36:00 PM
Description: New York right-hander Shawn Kelley has been activated from the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: A back injury kept him out for a little over a month. Now that he isn't closing, Kelley's fantasy impact is minimal.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CFHot6/9/2014 6:27:00 PM
Description: Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury is dealing with a sore hip, according to Jorge Castillo of the Newark Star-Ledger.

Mark Teixeira, 1BCold6/8/2014 12:57:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is not in the lineup Sunday against the Royals.
Insight: Teixeira is 6-for-48 (.125) with zero extra-base hits and 15 Ks against James Shields, who will be on the hill Sunday against New York, so it's a good day to get Teixeira some rest.
Mark Teixeira, 1BCold6/8/2014 10:42:00 AM
Description: Royals starter James Shields has made Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira look downright foolish in their previous meetings.
Insight: Teixeira is 6-for-48 (.125) with zero extra-base hits and 15 Ks against Shields, who will be on the hill Sunday against New York.
CC Sabathia, SP6/6/2014 11:35:00 AM
Description: Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia (right knee) played catch on Wednesday for the first time since he was placed on the DL. Source: Craig Wolff, The Star-Ledger.
Insight: Sabathia threw 25 times and experienced no pain during the session. While he's hopeful he can return before the All-Star break in July, the Yankees haven't placed a timetable on his return. Before getting injured, the slimmed-down southpaw posted a 5.28 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with a 48/10 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 46 innings.
Mark Teixeira, 1BCold6/6/2014 9:56:00 AM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is just 2-for-21 (.095) against Kansas City starter Jeremy Guthrie.
Insight: Teixeira has been dealing with soreness in his surgically-repaired right wrist for weeks and since coming back from the disabled list is batting just .160. Avoid this matchup.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CFHot6/6/2014 9:53:00 AM
Description: Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury is a lifetime .435 hitter with seven extra-base hits against Royals right-hander Jeremy Guthrie.
Insight: Ellsbury is in the midst of a 10-game hitting streak to raise his average to .286. He's a must start on Friday.
Masahiro Tanaka, SPHot6/5/2014 10:07:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka needed 104 pitches to get through six innings and had a season-low four strikeouts Thursday afternoon against the Athletics, but he only allowed one run to pick up his ninth win of the season.
Insight: Tanaka's nine wins rank second in baseball to Toronto's Mark Buehrle. The 25-year-old hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in any start this season.
Carlos Beltran, RF6/5/2014 12:24:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran (elbow) has been activated from the disabled list ahead of New York's game against Oakland. He'll bat fifth and DH.
Insight: Beltran missed the last three weeks with bone spurs in his right elbow, but has decided to return now instead of having surgery to remove the spurs. In the first year of his three-year, $45 million deal with the Yanks, Beltran has struggled, posting a .234 batting average and .715 OPS in 128 at-bats. Still, if he can remain healthy he could provide a significant boost to fantasy offenses.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CFHot6/4/2014 10:51:00 PM
Description: Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits, a homer and three RBI Wednesday against Oakland.
Insight: A nine-game hitting streak has Ellsbury's average back up to .280. It fell as far as .258 after he went 9-for-71 (.127) from May 4-25.
Carlos Beltran, RF6/4/2014 5:50:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran (elbow) could be back from the disabled list on Thursday, according to Bryan Hoch of mlb.com.
Insight: Beltran has a bone spur in his right elbow and would have missed at least two months if he needed surgery, but he'll be able to play through the injury.
Mark Teixeira, 1B6/3/2014 5:08:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira (wrist) is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Athletics, according to Bryan Hoch of mlb.com.
Insight: Teixeira has been dealing with soreness in his surgically-repaired right wrist for a few weeks and left Saturday's game. Teixeira (.242, 9 HR, 25 RBI) is a career .529 hitter (9-for-17) against Scott Kazmir, Tuesday's starting pitcher.
Alfonso Soriano, RF/DHCold6/3/2014 9:58:00 AM
Description: Yankees OF/DH Alfonso Soriano is just 1-for-9 with four strikeouts against Oakland left-hander Scott Kazmir.
Insight: Soriano (.230, 6 HR, 19 RBI) is hitless in his last five games with five strikeouts over that span. Ichiro Suzuki, a career .333 hitter against Kazmir, should get the start.
Mark Teixeira, 1B6/3/2014 9:53:00 AM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira (wrist) is questionable for Tuesday's game against Oakland, but if he makes it into the lineup, he's got a favorable matchup.
Insight: Teixeira (.242, 9 HR, 25 RBI) is a career .529 hitter (9-for-17) against Oakland starter Scott Kazmir. Teixeira left Saturday's game with soreness in his surgically-repaired right wrist.
Francisco Cervelli, C6/2/2014 2:18:00 PM
Description: Yankees C/1B Francisco Cervelli (hamstring strain) played a few innings in an extended spring training game, according to Bryan Hock of mlb.com.
Insight: Cervelli was placed on the 60-day DL in April and could come back in mid-June. With Brian McCann as the Yankees' starter, Cervelli has little fantasy value even when he's 100 percent healthy.
Carlos Beltran, RF6/2/2014 2:16:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran (elbow) went hitless in an extended spring training game Monday, but more importantly said his elbow felt good, according to Bryan Hoch of mlb.com.
Insight: Beltran went on the DL with a bone spur in his right elbow, but could be back by the end of the week.
Mark Teixeira, 1B6/1/2014 1:03:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira (wrist) is out of the lineup Sunday.
Insight: Teixeira (.242, 9 HR, 25 RBI) left Saturday's game with soreness in his surgically repaired right wrist, which is something he's dealt with for the past week.
Yangervis Solarte, 3B5/31/2014 5:57:00 PM
Description: Yangervis Solarte's strong rookie campaign continued Saturday with a three-hit game against Minnesota.
Insight: Solarte has followed up a brutal 0-for-16 stretch by collecting hits in five of his last six at bats. That brings the 26-year-old's season average all the way up to .299. That's second-best among major league rookies (.304 for Xander Bogaerts).
Masahiro Tanaka, SP5/31/2014 5:41:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka produced another memorable outing Saturday against the Twins.
Insight: In eight innings, Tanaka (8-1, 2.06 ERA) allowed just four hits and one run (it was unearned), striking out nine while surrendering two walks. The rookie from Japan hasn't let up more than three earned runs in any of his 11 starts this season and looks to be a legitimate Cy Young contender. We'll see him pitch again Thursday against Oakland.
Michael Pineda, SP5/31/2014 5:13:00 PM
Description: According to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, Yankees right-hander Michael Pineda has been shut down following a setback in his recovery from a strained back.
Insight: A recent MRI showed inflammation in his back. Pineda (2-2, 1.83 ERA) hasn't made a start since his notorious pine tar game against the Red Sox on April 23rd.
Mark Teixeira, 1B5/31/2014 3:20:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira had to leave Saturday's game in the sixth inning. SOURCE: Bryan Hoch, MLB.com
Insight: Teixeira (.242, 9 HR, 25 RBI) missed time with wrist inflammation earlier in the week so we imagine his sudden departure Saturday had something to do with that. Kelly Johnson (.212, 4 HR, 13 RBI) is manning Teixeira's post at first base.
Kelly Johnson, 3B5/31/2014 10:28:00 AM
Description: Yankees utility man Kelly Johson is 9-for-28 (.321) with five home runs versus Minnesota righty Kevin Correia.
Insight: Johnson's average is down to an ugly .207, but the five homers against Correia is the most against any pitcher in his career, so he should be confident.
Carlos Beltran, RF5/30/2014 5:29:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran (elbow) took batting practice on the field Friday and said his elbow is pain free. SOURCE: Sweeny Murti, WFAN
Insight: Beltran is on the DL with a bone spur in his right elbow, but he's made progress this week and likely will avoid surgery, which would have kept him out for two months.
Mark Teixeira, 1B5/30/2014 3:45:00 PM
Description: New York 1B Mark Teixeira (inflammation in his right wrist) is back in the lineup for Friday's series opener with Minnesota.
Insight: That's the same wrist he had surgically-repaired last season. Teixeira (.248, 9 HR, 25 RBI) last played on May 25.
Brian McCann, C5/30/2014 9:43:00 AM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann is a career .345 hitter with eight homers and 23 RBI versus Minnesota right-hander Ricky Nolasco.
Insight: The eight homers is by far the most against any pitcher. His batting average continues to stay low, but he'll hit 20-plus homers again this season as he has for six consecutive seasons.
Mark Teixeira, 1B5/29/2014 7:35:00 PM
Description: New York 1B Mark Teixeira has inflammation in his right wrist. SOURCE: Mark Feinsand, New York Daily News
Insight: That's the same wrist he had surgically-repaired last season. Though Teixeira (.248, 9 HR, 25 RBI) is hoping to avoid the DL, he's been a slow healer in the past and fantasy owners should prepare to be without him for a while.
Mark Teixeira, 1BCold5/27/2014 5:28:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira (wrist) said he talked to his surgeon and they both are 99-percent sure the stiffness in his right wrist is normal, according to Alex Halstead of mlb.com.
Insight: Teixeira missed most of last season due to a torn tendon sheath in the same wrist and was scratched from Monday's lineup. He's not playing Tuesday and will have an ultrasound Thursday to check everything out, so he may have to sit out Wednesday as well.
Mark Teixeira, 1BCold5/26/2014 10:13:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira said he might need more than one day off for his sore right wrist, according to Chad Jennings of lohud.com.
Insight: "It's just inflammation, we think," Teixeira said. "It's probably time to take a day or two off to let it calm down anyway." Teixeira missed most of last season due to a torn tendon sheath in the same wrist. The Yankees haven't scheduled an MRI because doctors told Teixeira earlier this season to expect days with residual soreness of varying degrees.
Brian McCann, CCold5/26/2014 9:53:00 PM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann hasn't had a multi-hit game since May 13.
Insight: He has gone 6-for-36 (.167) since his last multi-hit effort, including 0-for-8 the last two games.
David Robertson, RP5/26/2014 9:48:00 PM
Description: Yankees closer David Robertson allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the 12th inning Monday against St. Louis after Derek Jeter made a throwing error, but he still locked down his 11th save of the season.
Insight: Robertson blew his first save of the season on Friday against the White Sox but has bounced back with two saves and five strikeouts in his last two games. He has a 2.40 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP this season.
Carlos Beltran, RF5/26/2014 3:00:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran (elbow) took 15 swings from both sides of the plate Monday and felt good. SOURCE: Sweeny Murti, WFAN
Insight: If Beltran couldn't swing a bat without pain he likely would have decided to undergo surgery that would keep him out for two months, but this is a positive step for him. He's dealing with a bone spur in his right elbow.
Mark Teixeira, 1BCold5/26/2014 3:00:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira was scratched from the lineup Monday due to stiffness in his right wrist, according to Sweeny Murti of WFAN.
Insight: That's the wrist that was surgically repaired in 2013. Teixeira has been in a slump lately, going 4-for-26 in his last seven games, but he still has nine homers, 25 RBI and an .853 OPS in 125 at-bats.
Derek Jeter, SS5/25/2014 8:41:00 PM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter had four hits and two RBI Sunday at Chicago.
Insight: Jeter has hit .319 over his last 18 games, but with just one home run, 10 RBI, 14 runs and one steal he isn't a good fantasy option.
Brian McCann, C5/24/2014 11:42:00 AM
Description: New York catcher Brian McCann is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Chicago White Sox.
Insight: Just a routine day off after a night game. McCann's batting average is down a bit from what we were used to in Atlanta, but he's still hitting homers and playing well behind the plate.
Mark Teixeira, 1B5/24/2014 10:46:00 AM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is a career 7-for-12 with a home run and five RBI versus White Sox starter John Danks.
Insight: Teixeira's numbers are impressive over the past month, batting .277 with eight homers and a .960 OPS. He's slowed a bit this week, but this matchup should help.
Alfonso Soriano, RF/DHCold5/23/2014 5:37:00 PM
Description: Yankees OF/DH Alfonso Soriano isn't starting Friday against the White Sox.
Insight: Soriano (.235, 6 HR, 17 RBI) is hitless in his last five games with seven strikeouts over that span. Ichiro Suzuki (.369, 0 HR, 3 RBI) will try his hand at right field on Friday night.
Brett Gardner, LF5/22/2014 10:29:00 AM
Description: Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner is a candidate to sit on Thursday as he's never produced against White Sox ace Chris Sale.
Insight: Gardner is 0-for-7 with four strikeouts in their matchups. Overall Gardner has having a solid season, batting .304 with an .803 OPS and 11 steals. Just don't use him today.
Brian McCann, C5/21/2014 12:19:00 PM
Description: New York catcher Brian McCann is hitless in seven at bats against Cubs right-hander Jeff Samardzija.
Insight: McCann's batting average has been hovering around .200 all season. That's not likely to improve Wednesday with Samardzija (0-4, 1.62 ERA) throwing for Chicago.
Alfonso Soriano, RF/DH5/21/2014 12:17:00 PM
Description: New York right fielder Alfonso Soriano isn't starting Wednesday against the Cubs.
Insight: It's only Soriano's third absence of the season. Ichiro Suzuki (.356, 0 HR, 2 RBI) is getting the start in right field.
Masahiro Tanaka, SP5/21/2014 9:19:00 AM
Description: New York right-hander Masahiro Tanaka dropped his first decision in almost two years Tuesday against the Cubs.
Insight: That breaks up a string of 42 consecutive starts without a loss. Tanaka wasn't awful (6 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 7 K's, 1 BB) but he wasn't sharp either. He'll look to rebound Sunday against the White Sox.
Carlos Beltran, RF5/20/2014 7:26:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran (elbow) will try to swing a bat on Monday, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.
Insight: Dr. James Andrews confirmed Tuesday that Beltran has a bone spur in his elbow. He'll try to play through it but if he cannot swing the bat without pain next Monday he'll likely undergo surgery and miss 2-3 months.
Carlos Beltran, RF5/20/2014 5:21:00 PM
Description: Dr. James Andrews confirmed Tuesday that Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran has a bone spur in his right elbow, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News.
Insight: Beltran will try to play through the injury but may need to have surgery if the pain proves to be too much to handle. Surgery would cost him approximately two months. He's eligible to come off the DL on May 28.
CC Sabathia, SP5/19/2014 5:48:00 PM
Description: Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Monday that CC Sabathia (knee) will be out until at least late June and probably until July, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Insight: Cashman said that Sabathia's best-case scenario is a return "no sooner than six weeks from now." With the Yankees relying on David Phelps, Vidal Nuno and Chase Whitley in the rotation, look for them to be in the market for a starter.
CC Sabathia, SP5/18/2014 10:28:00 PM
Description: New York left-hander CC Sabathia is visiting another doctor on Monday. He went on the DL last week because of fluid buildup in his right knee. SOURCE: Jeff Roberts, The Record
Insight: He's not going to make it back when his 15 days are up. That means we'll probably see a few more starts from right-hander Chase Whitley (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
Ichiro Suzuki, RF5/18/2014 12:46:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Ichiro Suzuki (back) will play in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader, according to Chad Jennings of lohud.com.
Insight: Ichiro has been one of the best fourth outfielders in baseball this season, hitting .364 with an .833 OPS in 55 at-bats. He hasn't started since May 11 due to a back injury. With Carlos Beltran on the disabled list, Ichiro could have a regular starting job going forward.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF5/18/2014 12:44:00 PM
Description: Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury (illness) will play Game 1 of New York's doubleheader against the Pirates Sunday but will rest in Game 2.
Insight: Ellsbury (.284, 1 HR, 14 RBI, 21 runs, 11 SB) was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to illness and manager Joe Girardi won't ask him to play two games Sunday.
Brett Gardner, LFHot5/17/2014 7:23:00 PM
Description: Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner has batted .329 with two homers, 11 RBI, 19 runs and eight steals in his last 22 games.

Alfonso Soriano, DH5/17/2014 7:22:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Alfonso Soriano had a double and a homer Saturday against the Pirates.
Insight: It was Soriano's first homer since May 2. He has six longballs, a 40/5 K/BB and a .255 average in 149 at-bats this season.
David Phelps, SP5/17/2014 7:15:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter David Phelps wasn't sharp Saturday afternoon against the Pirates but he made it through five innings without allowing a run.
Insight: Phelps gave up five hits, walked three batters and threw 100 pitches. However, he worked out of jams in the second, third and fifth and New York threw out Starling Marte at second and Gaby Sanchez at home in the fourth. Phelps has recorded a 2.94 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP in three games since he joined the rotation.
Mark Teixeira, 1BHot5/17/2014 7:10:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira went 1-for-4 with his ninth homer of the season Saturday against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Teixeira's numbers are impressive, especially because they've come in 27 games. The 34-year-old missed all but 15 games in 2013 due to a torn tendon sheath in his wrist, was in decline prior to the injury and usually struggles early in the season, so it's surprising to see him perform like he has so far.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF5/17/2014 3:00:00 PM
Description: Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury is a late scratch for Saturday's game with Pittsburgh due to illness.
Insight: Ellsbury (.284, 1 HR, 14 RBI, 21 runs, 11 SB) will be replaced by Zoilo Almonte, but hopes to be back for Sunday's doubleheader. Alomonte holds little fantasy value.
Dellin Betances, RP5/16/2014 5:43:00 PM
Description: Yankees reliever Dellin Betances struck out six batters over 2 1/3 perfect innings and earned the win Thursday against the Mets.
Insight: Betances has a 1.61 ERA, a 0.94 WHIP and a 39/9 K/BB in 22 1/3 innings this season and may get a crack at the closing job if New York determines it likes David Robertson better as a setup man. Robertson has a 1.74 ERA and a 0.68 WHIP in 10 1/3 innings, so we won't see a switch if performance is the only factor.
Carlos Beltran, RF5/15/2014 4:42:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran (elbow) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday.
Insight: According to Newsday's Erik Boland, surgery could be a possibility. That would sideline Beltran for 6-to-12 weeks. While he's out, Alfonso Soriano (.241, 5 HR, 15 RBI) and Ichiro Suzuki (.364, 0 HR, 2 RBI) will split time in right field.
Yangervis Solarte, 3BHot5/14/2014 11:09:00 PM
Description: Yankees infielder Yangervis Solarte homered for the second straight game Wednesday against the Mets.
Insight: Solarte has gone 15-for-31 (.484) with three homers and 10 RBI during a nine-game hitting streak. The 26-year-old is tied for the AL lead with a .336 batting average.
Masahiro Tanaka, SPHot5/14/2014 10:11:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka threw his first career shutout Wednesday against the Mets.
Insight: New York's pitching staff was crushed for 21 runs the past two games and currently has CC Sabathia, Michael Pineda and Ivan Nova on the DL, but Tanaka stepped up like a true ace to stop the bleeding. He allowed four hits, struck out eight and walked none to improve to 6-0 with a 2.17 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP. His K/BB this season is 66/7 in 58 innings.
Carlos Beltran, RF5/14/2014 4:31:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran is still out with a bone spur in his right elbow. SOURCE: Yankees on Twitter
Insight: Alfonso Soriano (.248, 5 HR, 15 RBI) will start in right field Wednesday against the Mets. There's no timetable for Beltran's return but it's probably a good sign he hasn't been placed on the disabled list yet.
CC Sabathia, SP5/14/2014 10:42:00 AM
Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia doesn't have any structural damage in his right knee. SOURCE: Newark Star-Ledger
Insight: Everything checked out when Sabathia (3-4, 5.28 ERA) visited Dr. James Andrews earlier this week. He's eligible to return May 26th against St. Louis.
Brian McCann, C 5/13/2014 11:16:00 PM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI Tuesday against the Mets.
Insight: McCann has struggled this season, batting .230 with five home runs and 15 RBI, but his strikeout rate is just 12.8 percent and his BABIP is .231. His average should improve once his BABIP increases.
Yangervis Solarte, 3BHot5/13/2014 11:09:00 PM
Description: Yankees infielder Yangervis Solarte had his fifth multi-hit effort in his last seven games Tuesday against the Mets.
Insight: Solarte has gone 13-for-26 (.500) with two homers and eight RBI during that span. The 26-year-old looked to be fading in late April following a hot start, but he's kept it going into May and is now batting .336 with three home runs, 22 RBI and a .912 OPS.
Shawn Kelley, RP5/13/2014 7:11:00 PM
Description: The Yankees have placed right-hander Shawn Kelley on the 15-day DL.
Insight: He's dealing with some sort of back injury. Kelley (1-2, 3.52 ERA) closed for a few weeks while David Robertson was out with a strained groin but lately he's been used in a setup role.
Mark Teixeira, 1B5/13/2014 5:09:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira (groin) will play Tuesday against the Mets, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Insight: He didn't start Monday's game due to tightness in his left groin, but he had a pinch-hit single and is serving as the DH Tuesday. Teixeira is hitting .275 with seven homers and a .952 OPS this season, which is encouraging for fantasy owners after the first baseman missed most of last season due to a torn tendon sheath in his wrist.
Carlos Beltran, RF5/13/2014 4:45:00 PM
Description: New York right fielder Carlos Beltran has been diagnosed with a bone spur in his right elbow, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Insight: You shouldn't expect to see him in the lineup any time soone. He'll get a cortisone shot and then rest, but if that fails he could need surgery. Alfonso Soriano will get the start in right field tonight, but Ichiro Suzuki should see additional work.
Carlos Beltran, RF5/13/2014 3:38:00 PM
Description: New York right fielder Carlos Beltran is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Mets.
Insight: Beltran hyperextended his right elbow Monday night and was supposed to have an MRI today. We await results, but you shouldn't expect to see him in your fantasy lineup for a while. Alfonso Soriano will get the start in right field, Kelly Johnson at 1B and Mark Teixeira at DH.
Brett Gardner, LFHot5/12/2014 10:47:00 PM
Description: Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner swatted his second career grand slam Monday in a loss to the Mets.

CC Sabathia, SP5/12/2014 7:37:00 PM
Description: New York left-hander CC Sabathia will have his knee looked at by Dr. James Andrews. SOURCE: Andrew Marchand, ESPN New York
Insight: Usually Andrews is associated with Tommy John surgery but he was also the one who operated on Robert Griffin III when he suffered a torn ACL last postseason. Sabathia (3-4, 5.28 ERA) was placed on the DL Sunday after an MRI showed fluid buildup in his right knee.
Mark Teixeira, 1B5/12/2014 6:20:00 PM
Description: Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira won't be available for Monday's game against the Mets. SOURCE: Sweeny Murti, WFAN

Michael Pineda, SP5/11/2014 9:16:00 PM
Description: New York manager Joe Girardi believes starter Michael Pineda will be out longer than the team had originally expected. SOURCE: Jorge Castillo, Newark Star-Ledger
Insight: Pineda (2-2, 1.83 ERA) was supposed to miss 3-to-4 weeks with a strained back. Now we might not see him until June. Injuries have forced the Yankees to go with a starting rotation of Hiroki Kuroda, Masahiro Tanaka, David Phelps, Vidal Nuno and Alfredo Aceves.
CC Sabathia, SP5/11/2014 5:11:00 PM
Description: According to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News, Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right knee injury.
Insight: His MRI showed some fluid buildup that will have to be drained. The hope is that Sabathia (3-4, 5.28 ERA) will be back as soon as the required 15 days are up. Sabathia's injury opens up a spot for Alfredo Aceves (0-1, 1.23 ERA) in the starting rotation.
Carlos Beltran, RFCold5/11/2014 12:34:00 PM
Description: New York right fielder Carlos Beltran is a career .091 hitter against Milwaukee right-hander Matt Garza. Update: Beltran is not in the Yankees starting lineup.
Insight: We're still waiting for the Beltran of the past two seasons to appear. His batting average is all the way down to .244. He batted .296 last season with 24 HR and 84 RBI. This unfavorable matchup should have you sitting him on Sunday.

Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira went yard Saturday at Milwaukee.
Insight: Teixeira has blasted six home runs in the past 14 games and sports a strong .891 OPS this season. He hasn't shown any effects of the torn tendon sheath in his wrist that cost him most of last year and required surgery.
CC Sabathia, SP5/10/2014 10:08:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia allowed three homers Saturday at Milwaukee, but he was charged with just one earned run due to a two-out error in the third inning by shortstop Brendan Ryan.
Insight: Sabathia allowed eight hits and four runs in 5 1/3 innings and is 3-4 with a 5.28 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP this season. For the second straight season, homers have been a big problem for Sabathia -- he's allowed 10 in 46 innings.
Alfonso Soriano, DH5/10/2014 1:15:00 PM
Description: New York DH Alfonso Soriano is a career .357 hitter with fourt homers versus Milwaukee starter Kyle Lohse.
Insight: He's hitting just .238 this season with 5 HR, 13 RBI. Perhaps this matchup will get him going.
Carlos Beltran, RF5/10/2014 1:10:00 PM
Description: New York right fielder Carlos Beltran is a career .490 hitter with four homers and a 1.415 OPS against Kyle Lohse.
Insight: We're still waiting for the Beltran of the past two seasons to appear. His batting average is all the way down to .244. He batted .296 last season with 24 HR and 84 RBI. This favorable matchup may help.
Alfonso Soriano, DH5/9/2014 12:19:00 PM
Description: New York DH Alfonso Soriano hasn't been able to figure out Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo.
Insight: He's hitting just .160 against the right-hander with 11 punchouts in 25 at bats. Leaving Soriano (.238, 5 HR, 13 RBI) on your bench today might be your best course of action.
Brian McCann, CCold5/9/2014 12:15:00 PM
Description: New York catcher Brian McCann hasn't had much success in his career against Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo.
Insight: He's 2-for-15 against him with no home runs or RBI. A recent 5-for-41 spell has dropped McCann's average from .257 all the way down to .209. We wouldn't recommend starting him on Friday.
Yangervis Solarte, 3B5/8/2014 9:25:00 AM
Description: Yankees infielder Yangervis Solarte had his second straight two-hit game Wednesday at Los Angeles.
Insight: Solarte looked to be tailing off at the end of April but he's still hitting .306 with an .830 OPS this season and has held onto the starting third base job.
Derek Jeter, SS5/8/2014 9:23:00 AM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has gone 5-for-11 in his last three games.
Insight: Jeter homered for the first time this season Wednesday against the Angels. He's hitting .262 this year.
Hiroki Kuroda, SP 5/7/2014 9:39:00 AM
Description: Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda tossed 7 2/3 innings and gave up three runs (one earned) on five hits with an 8/0 K/BB Tuesday against the Angels.
Insight: Kuroda (2-3, 4.43 ERA) had a 6.35 ERA in his previous four starts. The right-hander has a similar K/9, BB/9 and HR/9 as 2013, but he has stranded just 57.9 percent of baserunners. His career rate is 72.7 percent.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CFCold5/7/2014 9:38:00 AM
Description: Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury is hitless in his last 12 at-bats.
Insight: Ellsbury's average has dropped from .346 to .311 during the slump.
Michael Pineda, SP5/6/2014 2:23:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter Michael Pineda is expected to miss three-to-four weeks with a Grade 1 strain of his teres major muscle.
Insight: The Yankees waited until Tuesday to place Pineda on the 15-day disabled list because they wanted his 10-game suspension to run out. The right-hander suffered the injury while throwing a simulated game last week. It's the same injury that cost Clayton Kershaw more than a month of action.
Mark Teixeira, 1BHot5/6/2014 1:41:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has been hot lately, but Angels left-hander C.J. Wilson has given him a lot of trouble.
Insight: Teixeira has gone 9-for-26 (.346) with four homers and seven RBI in his last seven games, but he's 2-for-18 against Wilson, Tuesday's opposing starter.
Derek Jeter, SS5/6/2014 1:16:00 PM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter broke out of a 2-for-24 slump with a single and a double Monday against the Angels.
Insight: Jeter also has a .391 average (9-for-23) in his career against Angels starter C.J. Wilson, who will get the ball Tuesday versus New York.
Carlos Beltran, RFCold5/5/2014 6:51:00 PM
Description: New York right fielder Carlos Beltran won't start Monday against the Angels. SOURCE: Yankees on Twitter
Insight: Instead, Ichiro Suzuki (.375, 0 HR, 2 RBI) will get the start in right field. A 2-for-25 slump over the last six games has dropped Beltran's average from .294 all the way down to .245.
Derek Jeter, SSCold5/4/2014 6:16:00 PM
Description: New York shortstop Derek Jeter went 0-for-11 the last two games despite not striking out at all.
Insight: Jeter's strikeout rate is a career-high 18.7 percent, but that hasn't been a problem the last two games. He's hitting .240 with five runs, six RBI and zero steals this season, so he really isn't doing anything for fantasy owners.
Carlos Beltran, RFCold5/4/2014 6:07:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran has gone 2-for-25 (.080) over his last six games.
Insight: That type of slump really hurts a player's numbers this early in the season. Beltran was batting .294 with an .898 OPS going into April 26, but he's down to .245 with a .752 OPS after going 0-for-4 Sunday.
Brian McCann, C5/4/2014 11:55:00 AM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann will take a seat Sunday against the Rays. SOURCE: Bill Chastain, MLB.com
Insight: John Ryan Murphy (.313, 1 HR, 3 RBI) will start behind the plate. McCann's first month in New York was a bit of a disappointment (.224 with three homers in April) but there's still plenty of time for him to turn things around.
Mark Teixeira, 1B5/4/2014 11:26:00 AM
Description: New York first baseman Mark Teixeira has managed just one hit in 12 career at bats against left-hander Erik Bedard.
Insight: That computes to an .083 batting average. Given this unfavorable matchup, we'd recommend sitting Teixeria (.269, 5 HR, 10 RBI) Sunday for the series finale.
Alfonso Soriano, LF5/4/2014 11:20:00 AM
Description: Yankees DH Alfonso Soriano has done well in his career against Rays starter Erik Bedard.
Insight: Soriano has seven hits in 16 at bats against the left-hander (.438 AVG). The 38-year-old doesn't hit for average any more (just .252 in 111 at bats this season) but his power is as good as ever (5 HR, .441 slugging percentage).
Derek Jeter, SS5/3/2014 11:14:00 AM
Description: New York shortstop Derek Jeter is getting a rest Saturday against the Rays. SOURCE: Anthony McCarron, New York Daily News
Insight: He went 0-for-7 in last night's extra inning loss. Yangervis Solarte (.294, 1 HR, 13 RBI) will move over to shortstop with Kelly Johnson (.215, 3 HR, 8 RBI) getting the start at third base.
Carlos Beltran, RFCold5/3/2014 11:09:00 AM
Description: Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran won't be in the lineup Saturday against Tampa Bay. SOURCE: Anthony McCarron, New York Daily News
Insight: Beltran played all 14 innings last night and is just 2-for-21 with no home runs or RBI over his last five games. Ichiro Suzuki (.364, 0 HR, 1 RBI) will draw the start in right field.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF5/1/2014 9:48:00 AM
Description: New York center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury is questionable for Thursday's game against Seattle due to minor pain in his hand.
Insight: Manager Joe Girardi has previously said tests revealed no structural damage. Ellsbury is off to a fine start, batting .312 with 14 runs scored, 11 RBI and eight steals. We always worry about injuries, however, as he's missed a lot of time over his career.
David Phelps, SP4/30/2014 5:41:00 PM
Description: The Yankees will skip David Phelps in the rotation following Wednesday's rainout, according to Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune.
Insight: Phelps entered the rotation in place of the suspended Michael Pineda, but he hasn't had to start yet and may not make one at all if the lat tightness Pineda felt during a simulated game doesn't prove to be serious.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF4/29/2014 5:11:00 PM
Description: New York center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury is not in the Yankees starting lineup Tuesday night due to minor pain in his hand, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Insight: Manager Joe Girardi said tests revealed no structural damage. Ellsbury is off to a fine start, batting .312 with 14 runs scored, 11 RBI and eight steals. As long as you don't expect him to put up his 2011 level of production (.321, 32 HR, 105 RBI, 119 runs, 39 SB) you should be satisfied with his results to date.
Michael Pineda, SP4/29/2014 5:08:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter Michael Pineda stopped a simulated game Tuesday due to tightness in his right lat.
Insight: Pineda was suspended 10 days last week for using pine tar during a game, but his return may have to be pushed back due to the injury. He was supposed to be back Monday against the Angels. If he can't go, David Phelps would probably get the ball.
Mark Teixeira, 1B4/29/2014 10:06:00 AM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is hitless in eight career at-bats against Seattle right-hander Chris Young.
Insight: Teixeira spent time on the disabled list with a strained hamstring, but has homered in two of the past four games. He's batting .229 with an .815 OPS this season.
Brett Gardner, LF4/27/2014 9:50:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner was not in the starting lineup due to a sore foot, according to ESPN.
Insight: Gardner took a fastball off his foot Saturday. His X-rays came back negative but he was still sore Sunday. Ichiro started in his place.
Yangervis Solarte, 3B4/27/2014 6:51:00 PM
Description: Yankees infielder Yangervis Solarte is dealing with a sore right shoulder and will take a seat Sunday against the Angels, according to Andrew Marchand of espnny.com.
Insight: Solarte (.301, 13 RBI) was in the initial lineup but the Yankees scratched him. Brian Roberts will start at second base.
John Ryan Murphy, C4/26/2014 9:41:00 PM
Description: New York catcher John Ryan Murphy slugged his first career homer Saturday in a 4-3 victory over the Angels.
Insight: Murphy drove in three of the Yankees' four runs on Saturday. Brian McCann does most of the catching for New York so we wouldn't expect to see Murphy (.308, 1 HR, 3 RBI) play more than a handful of games this year.
Brian McCann, C4/26/2014 11:46:00 AM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann will sit out Saturday to rest.
Insight: John Ryan Murphy, who has two singles in 10 at-bats, is behind the plate for starter Vidal Nuno. Murphy caught Nuno last Sunday too so this may be a trend. McCann has hit .244 with three homers in 78 at-bats this his new team.
Hiroki Kuroda, SPCold4/25/2014 9:47:00 PM
Description: The Angels tagged Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda for 10 hits and eight runs (six earned) in 4 2/3 innings Friday night.
Insight: Kuroda has a 5.28 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP in 29 innings this season. He has stranded just 61.1 percent of his baserunners, down from 73.2 percent for his career and 75.8 percent last season.
Ivan Nova, SP4/24/2014 5:10:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter Ivan Nova has elected to undergo Tommy John surgery, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News.
Insight: Nova started off this season with an 8.27 ERA and a 1.84 WHIP in 20 2/3 innings, and the injury explains why he has been struggling. Vidal Nuno will get the first shot at replacing him in the rotation.
Michael Pineda, SP4/24/2014 3:58:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter Michael Pineda was ejected from Wednesday's start at Boston for having pine tar on his neck, and has been suspended for 10 games.
Insight: Pineda appeared to have pine tar on his palm two starts ago, also against Boston, but the Red Sox dugout didn't say anything. However, manager John Farrell wasn't about to be fooled twice. His suspension will start Thursday so he may only have to miss one start.
Michael Pineda, SP4/23/2014 8:14:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter Michael Pineda was ejected from Wednesday's start at Boston for having pine tar on his neck, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
Insight: Pineda appeared to have pine tar on his palm two starts ago, also against Boston, but the Red Sox dugout didn't say anything. However, manager John Farrell wasn't about to be fooled twice. Pineda will face a 10-game suspension for using a foreign substance.
Yangervis Solarte, 3B4/23/2014 5:57:00 PM
Description: Yankees infielder Yangervis Solarte is not in the starting lineup Wednesday against the Red Sox. Kelly Johnson is starting at third base.
Insight: Solarte is in the midst of a 0-for-12 slump. Now that Mark Teixeira is back, Solarte will probably go back to a utility role and won't start enough to help fantasy owners.
Carlos Beltran, RF4/23/2014 11:37:00 AM
Description: New York right fielder Carlos Beltran hasn't made much success against Red Sox right-hander John Lackey (2-for-12).
Insight: We tell you that because that's who Beltran will be facing on Wednesday. Beltran has had a good season though (.296, 5 HR, 13 RBI in 18 games) so you may not want to take him out of your lineup.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF4/23/2014 9:38:00 AM
Description: New York center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury corked two hits in Tuesday's win over Boston.
Insight: Ellsbury received a mixed reaction from fans in his return to Fenway Park. Though he still hasn't homered yet, Ellsbury has collected a robust .342 average in his first 20 games as a Bronx Bomber. He also has eight thefts on ten stolen base attempts.
Carlos Beltran, RFHot4/22/2014 10:34:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran went deep off Edward Mujica in the eighth inning Tuesday at Boston.
Insight: The game was out of hand by that point with the Yankees up 8-2, but fantasy owners will take it just the same. Beltran leads New York with five home runs and 13 RBI.
Masahiro Tanaka, SPHot4/22/2014 10:29:00 PM
Description: Back-to-back solo homers from David Ortiz and Mike Napoli were the only blemishes on New York starter Masahiro Tanaka's record Tuesday in his first taste of the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry.
Insight: Tanaka gave up three doubles and the two round-trippers but held Boston to two runs over 7 1/3 innings while striking out seven and walking none. The right-hander is 3-0 with a 2.15 ERA, a 0.82 WHIP and an impeccable 35/2 K/BB in 29 1/3 innings.
Vidal Nuno, SP4/22/2014 6:13:00 PM
Description: The Yankees have promoted left-hander Vidal Nuno to the starting rotation. SOURCE: Sweeny Murti, WFAN
Insight: Nuno's start on Sunday at Tampa Bay -- five innings, zero runs, six strikeouts -- was supposed to be a spot start but ended up being an audition after Ivan Nova's MRI revealed a torn UCL in his elbow. Nuno has compiled a 2.84 ERA in 428 career minor league innings and went 1-1 with a 2.12 ERA in three starts for the Bronx Bombers last season, but he's a non-prospect who should only be added in very deep leagues.
Ichiro Suzuki, RF4/22/2014 4:08:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Ichiro Suzuki will get the start Tuesday night against Boston and Jon Lester.
Insight: Ichiro is a career .333 hitter off Lester (17-for-51) with a couple of homers while Brett Gardner will take a seat.
Brett Gardner, LF4/22/2014 4:03:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner is not in Tuesday's lineup against Boston ace Jon Lester, according to Bryan Hoch of mlb.com.
Insight: Gardner is just 2-for-11 against Lester in his career. Ichiro Suzuki, who has a .333 career average off Lester, will get the start in left field.
Kelly Johnson, 3BCold4/22/2014 11:40:00 AM
Description: Yankees utility man Kelly Johson is 1-for-15 (.067) against Boston left-hander Jon Lester.
Insight: Johnson has stuggled of late, going 2-for-18 over the past five games and given this unfavorable matchup should grab a seat on the bench.
Shawn Kelley, RP4/22/2014 11:14:00 AM
Description: Yankees reliever Shawn Kelley will return to his setup role with the activation of closer david Robertson.
Insight: Kelley accumulated four saves over the two weeks Robertson was out and showed he can handle the role, but barring another injury to Robertson won't get more than an occasion chance at more saves.
David Robertson, RP4/22/2014 11:12:00 AM
Description: Yankees closer David Robertson (groin) has been activated from the disabled list and will assume the closer role.
Insight: Robertson has two saves in three appearances this season. Shawn Kelley's fantasy value takes a big hit as he returns to setup duty. He did earn four saves while Robertson was out.
Brian McCann, C4/20/2014 11:51:00 AM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann will sit out Sunday to rest.
Insight: John Ryan Murphy is behind the plate for starter Vidal Nuno. McCann has hit .220 with three homers in 59 at-bats this his new team.
Mark Teixeira, 1B4/20/2014 10:59:00 AM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira (hamstring) has been activated from the disabled list.
Insight: Teixeira spent the minimum amount of time on the disabled list with a strained hamstring. In his absence, the Yankees used Kelly Johnson, Scott Sizemore and Francisco Cervelli at first base.
Ivan Nova, SP4/20/2014 10:22:00 AM
Description: Yankees starter Ivan Nova has been diagnosed with a partially torn UCL in his right elbow, according to Jack Curry of the YES Network.
Insight: Nova will undergo further examinations, but he's likely headed for Tommy John surgery. The right-hander started off this season with an 8.27 ERA and a 1.84 WHIP in 20 2/3 innings, and the injury explains why he has been struggling. Either David Phelps, Vidal Nuno or Adam Warren will take Nova's spot in the rotation.
Ivan Nova, SP4/19/2014 10:11:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter Ivan Nova left Saturday's start with right elbow soreness, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News. He'll undergo tests.
Insight: Nova gave up eight hits (four homers) and eight runs in four innings Saturday against the Rays and now has an 8.27 ERA. An injury would certainly help to explain his performance so far.
Derek Jeter, SS4/19/2014 6:22:00 PM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is not in the lineup Saturday night against the Rays, according to Sweeny Murti of WFAN. Dean Anna is starting in his place.
Insight: Jeter started the last three games after sitting out three straight with a quad injury. He's hitting .286 with three runs and two RBI.
Carlos Beltran, RF4/19/2014 4:40:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran is in the starting lineup for Saturday.
Insight: Beltran was chasing down a foul ball and tumbled over a fence, hurting his left shoulder and right wrist on Thursday and sat out Friday. He's off to a solid start, batting .298 with four homers and nine RBI in his first 15 appearances.
Carlos Beltran, RF4/19/2014 3:28:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran could get a second consecutive game off after taking a spill Thursday against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Beltran was chasing down a foul ball and tumbled over a fence, hurting his left shoulder and right wrist. He stayed in the game, so the injury isn't considered serious. He's off to a solid start, batting .298 with four homers and nine RBI in his first 15 appearances.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CFHot4/19/2014 10:40:00 AM
Description: Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury is 6-for-7 (.857) against Rays young right-hander Chris Archer.
Insight: Ellsbury is doing exactly what the Yankees brought him in to do. He's batting .367, stealing bases (8) and playing excellent defense in center field. He'll certainly be a confident hitter when he steps into the box on Saturday and so should fantasy owners when they start him.
Carlos Beltran, RF4/18/2014 4:32:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran will have the night off Friday after taking a spill Thursday against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Beltran was chasing down a foul ball and tumbled over a fence, hurting his left shoulder and right wrist. He stayed in the game, so the injury isn't considered serious. He's off to a solid start, batting .298 with four homers and nine RBI in his first 15 appearances.

Description: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran could get Friday after after taking a spill in Thursday's game.
Insight: Beltran was chasing down a foul ball and tumbled over a fence, hurting his left shoulder and right wrist. He stayed in the game, so it isn't likely serious, but could probably use a day of rest. He's off to a solid start, batting .298 with four homers and nine RBI.
Alfonso Soriano, LFHot4/18/2014 10:22:00 AM
Description: Yankees outfielder/DH Alfonso Soriano is a lifetime .500 hitter against Rays starter Erik Bedard (7-for-14).
Insight: The 38-year-old went 0-for-16 to start the season, but he's been hot this week, batting .360 with a trio of homers over his last six games. In this favorable matchup he should be started.
Mark Teixeira, 1B4/17/2014 8:14:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is hoping to be back in the lineup Sunday against Tampa Bay. SOURCE: George King III, New York Post
Insight: That's when Teixeira is first eligible to return from the disabled list. He's sat out the last week and a half with a strained hamstring.
Brian Roberts, 2B4/17/2014 10:40:00 AM
Description: Yankees second baseman Brian Roberts' MRI came back negative and he is questionable for Thursday's game against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Roberts hasn't played since Saturday due to a back injury. The 36-year-old is hitting just .129 with one RBI this season and shouldn't be owned in most leagues.
Masahiro Tanaka, SPHot4/16/2014 9:49:00 PM
Description: New York right-hander Masahiro Tanaka was dominant in his third major league start Wednesday against the Cubs.
Insight: Tanaka (2-0, 2.05 ERA) struck out ten in eight scoreless innings. Opponents are hitting just .185 against the 25-year-old this season.

Description: Yankees utility man Kelly Johson is 8-for-27 (.296) with two home runs against Cubs starter Jason Hammel.

Francisco Cervelli, C4/15/2014 5:38:00 PM
Description: Yankees C/1B Francisco Cervelli has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain.
Insight: Cervelli has already been placed on the 60-day DL. Austin Romine is expected to serve as Brian McCann's backup at catcher until Cervelli (.188, 0 HR, 1 RBI) is ready to return.
Brian McCann, C4/14/2014 5:42:00 PM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann's X-rays came back negative, according to mlb.com.

Carlos Beltran, RF4/14/2014 9:21:00 AM
Description: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran finished the game at first base after Francisco Cervelli injured a hamstring.
Insight: Beltran had never played there before and we doubt he'll get enough time to be position eligible. He's off to a solid start, batting .311 with three homers and eight RBI.
Brian McCann, C4/14/2014 9:17:00 AM
Description: New York catcher Brian McCann will get x-rays on his right index finger and taking a pitch off it in Sunday's game, according to Bryan Hoch of mlb.com.
Insight: He continued to play and isn't expected to miss time. Catcher's fingers are always getting nicked and its just part of the job. McCann was 4-for-11 with a pair of homers in the series with Boston.
Francisco Cervelli, C4/13/2014 11:09:00 PM
Description: Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday's game and had to exit.
Insight: Cervelli started at first base with Mark Teixeira on the DL and both Derek Jeter (quad) and Brian Roberts (back) not available. His injury forced Carlos Beltran to make his first appearance at first base.
Brian Roberts, 2B4/13/2014 11:07:00 PM
Description: Yanees second baseman Brian Roberts' MRI came back negative and he'll be reevaluated in a few days. SOURCE: Jeff Roberts, Bergen Record.
Insight: Roberts missed Sunday's game with a back injury. The 36-year-old is hitting just .129 with one RBI this season and shouldn't be owned in most leagues.
Derek Jeter, SS4/13/2014 5:32:00 PM
Description: Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that he gave Derek Jeter off Saturday and Sunday due to a sore quad, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News.
Insight: The Yankees have a day off Monday, so he'll end up getting three full days of rest. The 39-year-old is 10-for-35 with one RBI and three runs this season.
Derek Jeter, SS4/13/2014 4:35:00 PM
Description: New York shortstop Derek Jeter is not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against Boston. SOURCE: Buster Olney, ESPN
Insight: Well this is strange. Jeter will watch from the sidelines for the second game in a row, though the Yankees haven't provided any injury news regarding the 39-year-old. Dean Anna (.214, 1 HR, 1 RBI) will start in his place.
Brian McCann, C4/12/2014 9:42:00 PM
Description: New York catcher Brian McCann left the yard twice in Saturday's 7-4 victory over Boston.
Insight: The homers were McCann's first as a Yankee. He had 176 jacks during his nine-year tenure with Atlanta.
Mark Teixeira, 1B4/12/2014 11:59:00 AM
Description: New York first baseman Mark Teixeira (strained hamstring) said he expected to return as soon as he's eligible to come off the disabled list, according to ESPN's Andrew Marchand.
Insight: Teixeira has been an injury-prone mess for the past year and can't be counted on this season. He's no longer the 30-plus homer guy he was from 2009-2011.
Derek Jeter, SS4/12/2014 10:42:00 AM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is not in Saturday afternoon's starting lineup.
Insight: Jeter has missed only one of the first 11 games so far this season, not bad for the 39-year-old. He's batting .286, though has scored just three runs and knocked in one.
Carlos Beltran, RF4/12/2014 9:25:00 AM
Description: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran is hitless in nine at-bats against right-hander John Lackey.
Insight: Beltran is off to a rough start, batting just .243 through the first 10 games and this matchup won't help. He was slow to begin last season too and managed to finish April 2013 batting .307 with six homers and 17 RBI.
CC Sabathia, SP4/11/2014 10:10:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia had one bad inning Friday against the Red Sox and it resulted in his second loss.
Insight: Sabathia looked good for most of the game and had nine strikeouts, but he allowed solo and three-run homers in the top of the sixth to lose a 1-0 lead. Homers were one of Sabathia's issues last year and he has given up five in 19 innings already. Still, Friday's start was somewhat encouraging for Sabathia owners.
Michael Pineda, SP4/11/2014 8:47:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter Michael Pineda will not be disciplined for having a brown substance on his right palm during Thursday's start against the Red Sox.
Insight: The Red Sox coaching staff didn't say anything about the substance, possibly because it dealt with a similar situation with Clay Buchholz last year. Pineda claimed the substance was dirt rather than pine tar. The 25-year-old has looked fantastic this season, going 1-1 with a 1.50 ERA and a 12/2 K/BB in 12 innings after missing all of 2012 and 2013 with shoulder issues.
Brian McCann, C4/11/2014 6:12:00 PM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann is getting the night off Friday against the Red Sox, according to Bryan Hoch of mlb.com.

Kelly Johnson, LF4/11/2014 9:32:00 AM
Description: Yankees utility man Kelly Johson is hitless in 12 at-bats versus Boston left-hander Jon Lester.
Insight: Johnson's 0-for-3 on Thursday broke up a four-game RBI streak and two-game home run streak. This is an unfavorable matchup to avoid.
Michael Pineda, SP4/10/2014 10:13:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter Michael Pineda picked up his first win since July 30, 2011 Thursday against the Red Sox.
Insight: Pineda struck out seven batters and allowed one earned run on four hits in six innings. He also may be hearing from the commissioner's office due to the brown substance that was clearly visible on his right palm throughout the game. The Red Sox coaching staff didn't say anything about it, possibly because it dealt with a similar situation with Clay Buchholz last year after a start in Toronto.
Brian Roberts, 2B4/10/2014 3:53:00 PM
Description: Yanees 2B Brian Roberts will get Thursday night off with Dean Anna batting ninth as his replacement.
Insight: Roberts can use the day off as he's batting just .160 for the first nine games. Anna isn't any better with one hit in seven at bats, though he did bat .331 at Triple-A Tucson last season.
Kelly Johnson, LF4/10/2014 10:03:00 AM
Description: Yankees utilityman Kelly Johson is just 1-for-10 (.100) sriking out five times in his matchups with Boston right-hander Clay Buchholz.
Insight: Johnson has driven in at least one run in four straight games and homered in the last two, but has an unfavorable matchup.
Masahiro Tanaka, SP4/9/2014 10:22:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka fanned 10 Orioles in seven innings Wednesday, but he made one mistake: a three-run homer allowed to Jonathan Schoop.
Insight: Those are the only runs Tanaka gave up in a no decision. The 25-year-old has an 18/1 K/BB, a 3.21 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP after his first two MLB starts.
Kelly Johnson, LF4/9/2014 10:22:00 PM
Description: Yankees utilityman Kelly Johson homered for the second straight game Wednesday.
Insight: Johnson has driven in at least one run in four straight games. He's been playing every day at first base with Mark Teixeira on the DL.
Carlos Beltran, RF4/9/2014 10:19:00 PM
Description: Carlos Beltran hit his first home run with the Yankees Wednesday against the Orioles.
Insight: Beltran went 3-for-3 with a homer, a double and a single to raise his average from .185 to .267.
David Robertson, RP4/9/2014 5:11:00 PM
Description: Yankees closer David Robertson (groin) threw from flat ground Wednesday, according to Sweeny Murti of WFAN.
Insight: Robertson is eligible to return on April 22 and should be ready to be activated then unless he suffers a setback with his Grade 1 groin strain. Shawn Kelley will get most of the save chances in his absence.
Alfonso Soriano, LF4/8/2014 8:20:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder/DH Alfonso Soriano hit his first homer of the season Tuesday against the Orioles.
Insight: The 38-year-old went 0-for-12 over his first four games but he's five for his last 10. Soriano had 17 homers and 50 RBI in just 58 games after the Cubs traded him to New York last year.
Brett Gardner, LF4/8/2014 9:48:00 AM
Description: Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner is 5-for-9 (.556) with three extra-base hits and a 1.711 OPS in his matchups with Baltimore starter Wei-Yin Chen.
Insight: The 30-year-old is off to a solid start and is in a favorable matchup. Add it a wind blowing out to dead center at 20 mph and you have a recipe for success.
Shawn Kelley, RP4/7/2014 4:41:00 PM
Description: Yankees reliever Shawn Kelley earned his first career save on Monday against Baltimore.
Insight: Kelley was in the game because closer David Robertson was placed on the 15-day disabled list. Kelley looked good with a perfect 1-2-3 ninth inning and should get the next chance to close. Matt Thornton also has closing experience.
David Robertson, RP4/7/2014 4:38:00 PM
Description: Yankees closer David Robertson has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained groin.
Insight: It's uncertain who the Yankees will go with at closer now that Robertson is out. Shawn Kelley pitched a 1-2-3 ninth on Monday afternoon and is a strikeout-an-inning guy. On the other hand, Matt Thornton has closing experience from his time with the White Sox. Manager Joe Girardi should make a decision shortly.
Carlos Beltran, RF4/7/2014 10:03:00 AM
Description: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran is a career .364 hitter with a pair of homers in 11 at-bats versus Baltimore starter Ubaldo Jimenez.
Insight: Beltran is off to a slow start with just three hits in 19 at-bats (.158) so may not be ready to take advantage of this favorable matchup.
Michael Pineda, SP4/5/2014 7:43:00 PM
Description: Michael Pineda made his Yankees debut Saturday at Toronto and allowed one runs on five hits in six innings. He walked none and struck out five batters but took the loss because New York failed to score.
Insight: The Yankees acquired Pineda prior to the 2012 season for top prospect Jesus Montero, but Pineda missed the last two years with shoulder problems. He has a lot of upside and should be owned in all fantasy leagues.
Yangervis Solarte, 3B4/5/2014 7:42:00 PM
Description: Yankees infielder Yangervis Solarte went 2-for-3 Saturday at Toronto and is 7-for-13 with three doubles, four RBI and two runs in four games this season.
Insight: Solarte beat out Eduardo Nunez for the Yankees' utility infield job this spring and he'll likely start at third base while Mark Teixeira is on the disabled list with a hamstring strain.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF4/5/2014 7:38:00 PM
Description: Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury has had back-to-back three-hit games at Toronto.
Insight: Ellsbury went 0-for-7 with two walks in the Yankees first series of the season at Houston. He already has three steals and three runs scored. Health is the only thing that could hold Ellsbury back from being a superb fantasy option this season.
Yangervis Solarte, 2B4/5/2014 11:18:00 AM
Description: Yankees second baseman Yangervis Solarte will likely move to 3B as a result of the injury to Mark Teixeira.
Insight: Solarte is off to a hot start, batting .500 through his first three games. As long as he stays hot there will be a spot in the lineup for him.
Kelly Johnson, LF4/5/2014 11:15:00 AM
Description: Kelly Johnson could end up being eligible at 1B, 2B and 3B before the season is over. He'll take over at first while Mark Teixeira is sidelined.
Insight: Johnson has averaged 19. HRs and 67 runs per season over the past four years and his position flexibility makes him a viable assest off your bench.
Mark Teixeira, 1B4/5/2014 11:09:00 AM
Description: New York first baseman Mark Teixeira left Friday's game with a strained hamstring and has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: Multi-positional Kelly Johnson will move over to first base with help from Francisco Cervelli. Yangervis Solarte is likely to get the start at third. Teixeira has been an injury-prone mess for the past year and can't be counted on this season.
Mark Teixeira, 1B4/4/2014 9:17:00 PM
Description: New York first baseman Mark Teixeira left Friday's game with a strained hamstring. SOURCE: Mike Wilner, Sportsnet
Insight: He went 1-for-1 with an RBI single before leaving in the second inning. Kelly Johnson, who got the start at second base, has moved over to first. Brian Roberts is now at second.
Alfonso Soriano, LF4/4/2014 4:52:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder/DH Alfonso Soriano is not in Friday's lineup.
Insight: Just a day of rest for the 38-year-old. Beltran will shift over to DH and Ichiro Suzuki will start in right field.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF4/3/2014 6:26:00 PM
Description: New York will be without center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury on Thursday night. SOURCE: Jorge Castillo, Newark Star-Ledger
Insight: Ellsbury dealt with a calf injury during spring training but this is just a routine off day. Brett Gardner is filling in at center field.
Brian McCann, C4/3/2014 6:22:00 PM
Description: Yankees catcher Brian McCann is getting the night off Thursday against Houston. SOURCE: Jorge Castillo, Newark Star-Ledger
Insight: It's his first absence of the season. Francisco Cervelli will handle the catching duties as New York looks for its first win of 2014.
CC Sabathia, SP4/1/2014 10:10:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia had an Opening Day to forget Tuesday at Houston.
Insight: Sabathia, who slimmed down in the offseason, allowed eight hits (two HRs) and six earned runs in six innings. Sabathia struggled to overcome diminished velocity last season and gave up a career-high 28 homers while posting a career-worst 4.78 ERA. His velocity sat in the high-80s Tuesday and he left the ball up in the zone far too often.
Eduardo Nunez, SS4/1/2014 6:06:00 PM
Description: The Yankees designated Eduardo Nunez for assignment on Tuesday.
Insight: Nunez has been one of the worst defensive infielders in baseball in his career and hasn't hit enough to offset that. Yangervis Solarte and Dean Anna will serve as New York's backup infielders until Brendan Ryan returns from the DL.
Mark Teixeira, 1B3/28/2014 10:29:00 AM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira hasn't found his swing because he still doesn't trust his surgically-repaired right wrist, according to Kevin Kernan of the New York Post.
Insight: Teixeira played just 15 games last season due to a torn tendon sheath in his wrist and hit just .151 with three homers and 19 strikeouts in 53 at-bats. A former 30-plus home run guy, he'll have to prove to fantasy owners he can find his swing before he gets installed in starting lineups. That explains his Yahoo ADP of 190.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF3/25/2014 5:17:00 PM
Description: Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury (calf) took six plate appearances in roughly 30 minutes in a minor league game Tuesday, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News.
Insight: Ellsbury went 1-for-4 with two walks in his first action in 10 days. "The main thing is just seeing some pitches, getting timing," Ellsbury said. "I felt pretty good up there." Ellsbury's next step will be playing the field.
Michael Pineda, SP3/25/2014 5:06:00 PM
Description: Yankees manager Joe Girardi confirmed that Michael Pineda will be the team's fifth starter, according to Bryan Hoch of mlb.com. The 25-year-old Pineda beat out David Phelps, Adam Warren and Vidal Nuno by posting a 1.20 ERA in four games this spring.
Insight: The Yankees acquired Pineda prior to the 2012 season for top prospect Jesus Montero and are finally going to see some returns on the deal after Pineda missed the last two years with shoulder problems. Girardi said the Yankees will not have an innings limit for Pineda. He should be drafted in most leagues due to his upside.
Brendan Ryan, SS3/21/2014 9:35:00 PM
Description: New York infielder Brendan Ryan won't be ready in time for Opening Day. SOURCE: Bryan Hoch, MLB.com
Insight: An MRI showed something pushing on a nerve in his back. Ryan is known more for his glove than his bat. In 2,368 big league at bats, he's hit just .237 with 19 HR and 189 RBI.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF3/21/2014 9:27:00 PM
Description: Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury could be back in the lineup as early as Sunday. He's missed the last few days with an injured calf. SOURCE: Andy Martino, New York Daily News
Insight: His MRI came back clean so it looks like he's good to go. Ellsbury is 18th in our TSN fantasy rankings for 2014.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF3/20/2014 7:04:00 PM
Description: Jacoby Ellsbury's MRI came back negative. SOURCE: Dan Barbarisi, Wall Street Journal
Insight: Calf issues have sidelined Ellsbury for almost a week. The MRI was supposedly given as a precaution and Ellsbury is expected to return to the lineup later this weekend.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF3/18/2014 5:38:00 PM
Description: New York center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury won't play in spring training games on Wednesday or Thursday. SOURCE: Bryan Hoch, MLB.com
Insight: He's been out since Sunday with calf tightness. It sounds like the Yankees are just being extra cautious with their $153 million investment. Ellsbury should be a go for the start of the regular season.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF3/16/2014 11:04:00 AM
Description: New York center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury will be out of the lineup for at least the next two games. SOURCE: Anthony McCarron, New York Daily News
Insight: He's dealing with some calf tightness. Ellsbury (.298, 9 HR, 53 RBI, 52 SB for Boston in 2013) has a reputation for being fragile, though this injury seems pretty minor. Hopefully he'll be back later in the week.
Mark Teixeira, 1B3/3/2014 8:06:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira (wrist) will make his Grapefruit League debut Thursday, according to mlb.com. He took three swings from each side of the plate in live batting practice Monday and will take BP again Tuesday. "I feel pretty good. We've been here over two weeks now, and the wrist is getting stronger," Teixeira said. "That's the biggest thing. It needs to get stronger. The bat speed is pretty good. We'll keep building up, and hopefully on April 1 it's feeling really good and the swing's feeling really good and I'm ready to roll."
Insight: Teixeira played just 15 games last season due to a torn tendon sheath in his wrist and hit just .151 with three homers and 19 strikeouts in 53 at-bats. He's been in a steep decline since 2009 and should only be selected in the latter rounds of fantasy drafts.
Ichiro Suzuki, RF3/2/2014 4:04:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Ichiro Suzuki, who turns 41 in October, has no plans to retire and says he could play for "many" more seasons. SOURCE: ESPN New York
Insight: Ichiro has no interest in joining Derek Jeter on his farewell tour. Suzuki has been remarkably durable throughout his career, never playing fewer than 150 games in any of his 13 seasons. Regardless of Suzuki's future plans, it's tough to endorse him as a fantasy option while he platoons out in right field.
Mark Teixeira, 1B2/26/2014 4:38:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira (wrist) will play sometime at the end of next week, according to Jorge Castillo of the Newark Star-Ledger.
Insight: Teixeira played just 15 games last season due to a torn tendon sheath in his wrist and hit just .151 with three homers and 19 strikeouts in 53 at-bats. He's been in a steep decline since 2009 and should only be selected in the latter rounds of fantasy drafts.
Andrew Bailey, RP2/23/2014 3:40:00 PM
Description: Yankees righthander Andrew Bailey won't be available to pitch until September at the earliest. He's still rehabbing his injured shoulder. SOURCE: Daniel Barbarisi, Wall Street Journal
Insight: Bailey signed a minor league deal with New York on Saturday. Even if Bailey were healthy, he wouldn't be a candidate to pitch the ninth inning. The former Red Sox and A's closer shouldn't be owned in any fantasy leagues.
Brett Gardner, LF2/23/2014 2:59:00 PM
Description: The Yankees and outfielder Brett Gardner have agreed to a four-year, $52 million contract extension, according to ESPN.
Insight: The 30-year-old would have been eligible for free agency after the 2014 season, but he's now signed through at least 2018. The contract includes an option for 2019 with a $2 million buyout. Gardner batted .277 with eight homers, 52 RBI and 24 steals last season. He also has recorded the second best UZR among outfielders since 2010 with 51.5 runs saved and will move back to left field, his best position, this season.
Andrew Bailey, RP2/22/2014 10:32:00 PM
Description: Reliever Andrew Bailey has agreed to an incentive-laden minor league contract with the Yankees, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.
Insight: Bailey had surgery to repair a torn capsule and damaged labrum in his right shoulder last summer. He threw just 44 innings and went 14-for-22 in save chances over his two seasons with the Red Sox. The New Jersey native will try to join the Yankees' bullpen by the middle of the season.
David Phelps, SP2/22/2014 7:55:00 PM
Description: According to mlb.com, Yankees manager Joe Girardi admitted Saturday that David Phelps' role will be decided this spring.
Insight: Phelps is competing with Michael Pineda, Adam Warren and Vidal Nuno for the fifth spot in the New York rotation after going 10-9 with a 4.11 ERA in 55 games (23 starts) the last two seasons. He'll serve in long relief if he doesn't win the starting job.
Brian Roberts, 2B2/18/2014 7:09:00 PM
Description: Brian Roberts will be New York's Opening Day second baseman. SOURCE: Andrew Marchand, ESPN New York
Insight: Pretty exciting isn't it? Well not really. Sure there was a time when Roberts was a fantasy-worthy second baseman but we'd need a time machine to go back to it. Keep in mind, Roberts hasn't produced a .300 batting average since 2005. Even at pint-sized Yankee Stadium it's doubtful Roberts will hit enough homers to be in the fantasy coversation.
Derek Jeter, SS2/12/2014 2:39:00 PM
Description: The 2014 season will be Derek Jeter's last. The Yankees shortstop announced on his Facebook page that he'll be retiring after the season.
Insight: With five championships and over 3,000 hits in his career, Jeter is going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer. After missing most of last year with a broken ankle, fantasy owners should be very cautious with Jeter heading into the 2014 season.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B2/7/2014 8:07:00 PM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has called off his lawsuit against Major League Baseball, commissioner Bud Selig and the MLB Players' Assocation. SOURCE: Jim Baumbach, Newsday
Insight: Reality seems to have set in for Rodriguez, who must have figured out he stood almost no chance of winning this case in federal court. A-Rod will sit out the entire 2014 season as he serves a 162-game PED suspension. Rodriguez will not be reporting to spring training later this month.
Mark Teixeira, 1B1/29/2014 3:37:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has acknowledged that his wrist may hurt him all season. SOURCE: Daniel Barbarisi, Wall Street Journal
Insight: It's the same wrist Teixeira (.151, 3 HR, 12 RBI in 2013) had surgery on last season. Teixeira's fantasy value is very unclear at the moment. There's no reason to consider him until much later in the draft.
David Robertson, RP1/22/2014 1:21:00 PM
Description: According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner declared David Robertson the closer on Wednesday.
Insight: Mariano Rivera retired at the end of the 2013 season, and it was assumed that Robertson would succeed him but GM Brian Cashman and manager Joe Girardi have avoided naming him the closer. Steinbrenner did what they wouldn't do Wednesday. "We are going to continue to look, but no doubt we have already spent a lot of money this offseason," Steinbrenner said. "I have a lot of confidence in Robertson and so does (Girardi). Robertson is going to be our closer, and I believe he will do a good job. We have done a lot to improve our team and we just have to understand that you cannot be perfect everywhere."
Masahiro Tanaka, SP1/22/2014 10:11:00 AM
Description: According to Ken Rosenthal of foxsports.com, the New York Yankees have agreed to a seven-year, $155 million contract with Japanese righty Masahiro Tanaka.
Insight: The 25-year-old went 24-0 with a 1.27 ERA and 183 strikeouts in 212 innings for Tohoku Rakuten last season, but the Yankees will probably be satisfied if he duplicates the 3.90 ERA Yu Darvish put up as a rookie in 2012.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B1/21/2014 2:25:00 PM
Description: According to a Yahoo! report, MLB players reps wanted to kick New York third baseman Alex Rodriguez out of the union during a call last week.
Insight: Union leadership apparently told the players that approach wasn't legally possible, but it explains how many of the today's players are feeling. There doesn't appear to be much player support for A-Rod.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B1/12/2014 6:21:00 PM
Description: New York third baseman Alex Rodriguez will officially file a suit against Major League Baseball in federal court on Monday. SOURCE: Mike DiGiovanna, Los Angeles Times
Insight: He's contesting arbitrator Fredric Horowitz's suspension ruling that reduced his ban from 211 games to 162. Our advice to fantasy owners would be to assume that Rodriguez will not be on the field in 2014. A-Rod's absence is significant because it saves the Yankees $25 million in salary that they can now give to free agent starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka.
Scott Sizemore, 2B1/12/2014 1:25:00 PM
Description: The Yankees have signed infielder Scott Sizemore to a minor league contract, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
Insight: Sizemore tore his left ACL in each of the last two seasons while with the Athletics. He can play both second and third base and could end up filling one of the voids left by Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano. He'll compete with Kelly Johnson and Brian Roberts for plaring time.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B1/11/2014 3:55:00 PM
Description: According to Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York, sources in Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez's camp are "100 percent certain" he'll report to spring training. The Yankees cannot stop him because his suspension does not begin until the regular season.
Insight: Arbitrator Fredric Horowitz reduced Rodriguez's suspension from 211 games to 162 games Saturday, but A-Rod will now take his case to federal court to try to get the suspension overturned.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B1/11/2014 12:49:00 PM
Description: New York third baseman Alex Rodriguez suspension was reduced from 211 to 162 games, but that's still a full season.
Insight: Rodriguez is expected to file an injunction. Meanwhile, the Yankees are likely to move on and find a third baseman for the 2014 season. The options on the current roster are Kelly Johnson or Eduardo Nunez.
Ichiro Suzuki, RF1/11/2014 9:38:00 AM
Description: New York Yankees outfielder Ichiro Suzuki is likely to be the fourth outfielder this season.
Insight: Barring injury, the Yankees starting outfield should be Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran with Alfonso Soriano as the primary designated hitter. That wouldn't leave many at-bats for Ichiro (.262, 7 HR, 35 RBI, 20 SB). Of course all four guys blocking his way have had frequent injury issues in the past, but for now Ichiro has little fantasy value.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B1/10/2014 9:33:00 PM
Description: New York third baseman Alex Rodriguez could hear a ruling on his suspension as early as this weekend. SOURCE: Ronald Blum, Yahoo Sports
Insight: Rodriguez is expected to file an injunction if the suspension is greater than 100 games, though if it's less, it may not be worth the trouble. While it's doubtful that A-Rod's suspension will be overturned completely, that remains a possibility. Eduardo Nunez is next up on the team's depth chart at third base should A-Rod face a lengthy ban.
Vernon Wells, LF1/10/2014 3:22:00 PM
Description: Yankees OF/1B Vernon Wells has been designated for assignment.
Insight: Wells helped the Yankees early on by batting .301 with 10 homers and 23 RBI over his first 38 games but he faded quickly after that. He's a career .270 hitter with a .778 OPS, but he hasn't hit at that level for a few years and his fantasy value doesn't figure to improve anytime soon.
Carlos Beltran, RF12/20/2013 9:40:00 AM
Description: It's now official - Carlos Beltran signed his three-year, $45 million contract with the New York Yankees after passing the physical.
Insight: Beltran should see plenty of time in right field, keeping eligible for the outfield along with time at DH to try and keep him in the lineup on a daily basis. He played 296 games and hit .282 with 56 homers, 181 RBI and an .836 OPS with the Cardinals over the last two seasons. The Yankees will be his sixth team in 17 seasons and the second time in New York.
Matt Thornton, RP12/17/2013 7:33:00 PM
Description: Lefthanded reliever Matt Thornton and the Yankees have agreed on a two-year pact. SOURCE: Jack Curry, YES
Insight: The deal is worth $7 million. The once dominant setup man struggled to an 0-4 record last season and wasn't even good enough to crack Boston's postseason roster. He won't have any use to fantasy owners in 2014.
Brian Roberts, 2B12/17/2013 12:03:00 PM
Description: Second baseman Brian Roberts has agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal with the Yankees. SOURCE: Jon Paul Morosi, Fox Sports
Insight: At best, the injury-prone second baseman will share time with Kelly Johnson. At one time he was a .280 hitter who could produce 100 runs and 30-40 stolen bases, but that was at least five years ago. Today, he's a .250 hitter with no speed or pop. Even if he's healthy, fantasy owners should look elsewhere.
Hiroki Kuroda, SP12/7/2013 4:26:00 PM
Description: The Yankees have brought back starter Hiroki Kuroda on a one-year pact worth $16 million.
Insight: Kuroda had a 3.31 ERA and a 1.162 WHIP in 2013, nearly identical to the 3.32 ERA and 1.165 ERA he had in his first season with New York. However, his record fell to 11-13 from 16-11. He's had an ERA of 3.76 or lower and a WHIP of no higher than 1.216 in his six major league seasons.
Carlos Beltran, RF12/6/2013 10:49:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN.com, Carlos Beltran has agreed to a three-year, $45 million contract with the New York Yankees.
Insight: What, you thought the Yankees were just going to sit tight after losing Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson Friday? Beltran will return to the city he played in from 2005-2011 as a member of the Mets. He played 296 games and hit .282 with 56 homers, 181 RBI and an .836 OPS with the Cardinals over the last two seasons.
Kelly Johnson, LF12/6/2013 8:11:00 PM
Description: Kelly Johnson is in line to be the Yankees starting second baseman after finalizing a one-year, $3 million contract Friday.
Insight: Robinson Cano agreed to a 10-year deal with the Seattle Mariners, opening up a spot at second base for Johnson. The veteran also can play third if Alex Rodriguez' suspension is upheld. Johnson hit .235 with 16 home runs, 52 RBI and a .715 OPS in 118 games with the Rays last season and has averaged .254 with 16 homers, 57 RBI, 11 steals and a .765 OPS since he became a full-time player in 2007.
Curtis Granderson, LF12/4/2013 10:09:00 AM
Description: Talks seem to be heating up between free agent outfielder Curtis Granderson and the New York Mets. SOURCE: Adam Rubin, ESPN New York
Insight: With Jacoby Ellsbury playing center field and Robinson Cano still unsigned, Granderson is no longer a priority for the Yankees. The two sides are discussing a three-year contract though Granderson's camp is pushing for a four-year pact. With the Winter Meetings coming up, Granderson should make his decision in the near future.
Kelly Johnson, LF12/4/2013 10:03:00 AM
Description: Kelly Johnson is headed to the Yankees. According to the New York Post's Joel Sherman, his new deal is worth between $2.75 and $3 million.
Insight: It's a one-year contract. Johnson (.235, 16 HR, 52 RBI) played all over the field in Tampa Bay last season including left field and three out of the four infield positions (he didn't play shortstop). He could be an option for the Yankees at second base should Robinson Cano sign with another team.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF12/3/2013 9:02:00 PM
Description: The Yankees and center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury have agreed to a seven-year, $153 million deal. SOURCE: Mark Feinsand, New York Daily News
Insight: So much for the Yankees shrinking their payroll. In the last two weeks, they've spent almost $240 million on two players (Ellsbury and Brian McCann). Ellsbury should do well in the Bronx and could be a 20-HR threat with the short porch out in right field. More importantly though, this leaves New York with almost no money left to spend on Robinson Cano. It will be interesting to see what teams go after Cano now that the Yankees are almost certainly out of the running for him.
Robinson Cano, 2B12/3/2013 8:45:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN New York's Wallace Matthews, the Mariners have become a serious player for free agent second baseman Robinson Cano.
Insight: The Yankees and Cano haven't been seeing eye to eye in contract talks and at this point the odds of him returning to the Bronx are less than 50 percent. The M's are reportedly offering Cano an eight-year deal worth $200 million. The Yankees previously offered him seven years at $160 million. Cano's fantasy value could take a big hit if he left the hitter-friendly confines of Yankee Stadium to play at spacious Safeco Field in Seattle.
Robinson Cano, 2B12/2/2013 8:39:00 PM
Description: The Yankees are taking a hard stance with second baseman Robinson Cano. According to Yahoo's Jeff Passan, they won't spend more than $200 million to keep him.
Insight: That spells trouble for Cano, who was hoping for at least a nine-year, $252 million deal. It will be interesting to see if other teams start getting involved now that Yankees GM Brian Cashman has drawn a line in the sand.
Robinson Cano, 2B11/25/2013 9:37:00 PM
Description: The Yankees have offered free agent second baseman Robinson Cano a seven-year, $160 million deal. SOURCE: ESPN New York
Insight: Cano had been asking for almost twice that much so there's no way that's going to be enough to sign him. It's finally setting in that Cano may not be with the Yankees next season.
Brian McCann, C11/23/2013 6:37:00 PM
Description: Brian McCann's new contract with the Yankees is worth $85 million over the next five seasons. SOURCE: Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports
Insight: It makes him the second-highest paid catcher in the major leagues (Joe Mauer is the highest). McCann is a massive upgrade over last year's starting catcher Chris Stewart but it's still a slight overpay when you consider McCann is hitting just .242 over his last two seasons.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B11/20/2013 4:46:00 PM
Description: A bizarre scene unfolded Wednesday when an outraged Alex Rodriguez stormed out of his arbitration hearing after learning commissioner Bud Selig would not be asked to testify. Rodriguez is appealing the 211-game suspension he was given last August. SOURCE: ESPN New York
Insight: Multiple sources suspect Rodrgiuez's tantrum, which included him pounding his fist on the table and cursing, may have been staged. The fact that Rodriguez's representatives released a statement almost immediately after he left the hearing would lend credence to that hypothesis. This case may have to be resolved in federal court.
Brendan Ryan, SS11/18/2013 1:40:00 PM
Description: Shortstop Brendan Ryan has reportedly reached a two-year, $5 million agreement with the New York Yankees.
Insight: Ryan is one of the league's best fielding shortstops, but a well below average hitter. He has no fantasy value and would simply be insurance behind Derek Jeter.
David Robertson, RP11/12/2013 9:19:00 PM
Description: According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Tuesday that the team hasn't decided that David Robertson is a lock to be its closer next season.
Insight: Mariano Rivera retired at the end of the 2013 season, and it was assumed that Robertson would succeed him. However, the Yankees aren't going to just hand him the job. "I'm not sure if Robertson is capable yet. He's never done that before," Cashman said. "I think he's earned the right to take a shot at it, and he very well may be the guy. But we're not anointing him the guy. We'll wait to see how our winter plays out and how spring training works out. Then Joe (Girardi) and Larry (Rothschild) will determine at some point at the end of spring training who our closer is." Robertson has struck out 258 batters and posted a 1.91 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP over 193 2/3 innings the last three seasons as New York's eight-inning man, so he shouldn't have an issue making the transition.
Mariano Rivera, RP11/4/2013 10:19:00 PM
Description: Former Yankees closer Mariano Rivera was the recipient of this year's American League Comeback Player of the Year award.
Insight: Rivera (6-2, 2.11 ERA, 44 saves) had a great last season after missing most of the 2012 campaign with a torn ACL. His 652 career saves are the most in MLB history.
Robinson Cano, 2B11/4/2013 2:03:00 PM
Description: Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is looking at Omar Infante among other second baseman in case they don't sign Robinson Cano to a long-term deal.
Insight: Would Yankees fans really accept him after the production they are used to from Cano? Cano hit .314, 27 HR, 107 RBI and 81 runs while Infante batted .318 with 10 HR, 51 RBI and 54 runs.
Derek Jeter, SS11/1/2013 9:14:00 PM
Description: The Yankees re-signed Derek Jeter to a one-year, $12 million contract on Friday.
Insight: If the Yankees had picked up his option for next season he would have made $9.5 million. So Jeter, who played 17 games last season, is actually getting a raise? This could only happen in the Bronx.
Kevin Youkilis, 3B10/29/2013 7:56:00 PM
Description: Yankees corner infielder Kevin Youkilis claims to be healthy after missing most of the year with back problems. SOURCE: New York Daily News
Insight: It's what you'd expect him to say with free agency coming up. Youk's days of being a fantasy asset are well in the past.
Robinson Cano, 2B9/29/2013 1:06:00 PM
Description: New York second baseman Robinson Cano is sitting out the team's regular season finale Sunday against Houston.
Insight: It seems like a strange thing to say but it's possible Cano (.314, 27 HR, 107 RBI) has played his final game with the Yankees. The soon-to-be free agent is coveting an absurd $300 million for his next contract. David Adams is filling in at second base today at Minute Maid Park.
Alfonso Soriano, LF9/29/2013 10:52:00 AM
Description: Yankees left fielder Alfonso Soriano is 7-for-14 with three doubles and one homer in his career against Houston's Erik Bedard.
Insight: Soriano has hit .176 over his last six games but this matchup should help him have one last big game to end the season. The veteran has hit .256 with 17 homers and 50 RBI in 58 games since joining New York.
Andy Pettitte, SP9/28/2013 10:07:00 PM
Description: New York lefthander Andy Pettitte finished his career Saturday with a complete game win over Houston.
Insight: Pettitte (9 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 5 K's, 2 BB) evened his record to 11-11 for the season. The win snapped a five-start winless streak for Pettitte. His final record in 18 seasons is 255-153.
Mariano Rivera, RP9/28/2013 7:59:00 PM
Description: New York closer Mariano Rivera won't pitch again this season. SOURCE: Joel Sherman, New York Post
Insight: Rivera will finish his career with a record 652 saves in 1,115 career appearances. It's unknown who will replace Rivera at closer though David Robertson seems to be the most likely candidate.
Adam Warren, RP9/28/2013 9:48:00 AM
Description: Yankees pitcher Adam Warren threw five scoreless innings of two-hit baseball Friday night as Houston to earn his first big league victory as a starter.
Insight: Warren's other two wins came out of the bullpen. The 26-year-old has posted a 3.66 ERA in 305 innings with Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre over the last two seasons and went 3-2 with a 3.39 ERA in 77 innings with the Yankees in 2013. He could compete for a spot in the Yankees rotation next season with Andy Pettitte retiring, Phil Hughes leaving as a free agent and Hiroki Kuroda possibly joining him.
David Robertson, RP9/28/2013 9:46:00 AM
Description: Fantasy owners got a glimpse of the future as Yankees reliever David Robertson picked up a save Friday against the Astros.
Insight: With Mariano Rivera retiring after this season, Robertson will assume the closer role for the Yankees next season. While he has big shoes to fill, he should be able to post solid numbers and will be one of the top-10 closers off the board.
Mariano Rivera, RP9/26/2013 10:17:00 PM
Description: Yankees closer Mariano Rivera retired all four batters he faced Thursday in his final game at Yankee Stadium.
Insight: Teammates Derek Jeter and Andy Pettitte came out to the mound to take the ball from him with two outs in the ninth inning. Rivera started to tear up and the crowd gave him a long standing ovation. The Yankees lost the game 4-0 but Rivera's memorable exit won't soon be forgotten. By all measures, he is the greatest closer to ever play the game.
Robinson Cano, 2B9/26/2013 9:06:00 PM
Description: Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is asking for a ten-year, $305 million contract. SOURCE: Buster Olney, ESPN
Insight: That simply won't happen. Cano is probably going to be the top free agent on the market this winter but no player is worth that amount of money, especially at age 30. He'll be lucky to get half of that.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B9/26/2013 5:06:00 PM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will be in Houston for this weekend's series, his spokesman Ron Berkowitz confirmed.
Insight: The New York Daily News reported Thursday that the Yankees gave A-Rod permission to skip the three-game series to prepare for his arbitration hearing regarding his 211-game suspension, but Yankees GM Brian Cashman said the report was inaccurate.

Insight: The New York Daily News reported Thursday that the Yankees gave A-Rod permission to skip the three-game series to prepare for his arbitration hearing regarding his 211-game suspension, but it appears he'll play.
Phil Hughes, SP9/24/2013 5:29:00 PM
Description: Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes will start Wednesday against the Rays.
Insight: New York planned to skip Hughes' start, but with CC Sabathia (hamstring) now out for the year Hughes is needed. Fantasy owners can ignore him.
CC Sabathia, SP9/23/2013 7:15:00 PM
Description: The Yankees will play the rest of the season without starter CC Sabathia. SOURCE: Andy McCullough, Newark Star-Ledger
Insight: The big lefty is dealing with a strained hamstring. He'll finish the 2013 campaign with a 4.78 ERA, his highest in 13 major league seasons.
Phil Hughes, SP9/22/2013 11:27:00 AM
Description: The Yankees are skipping Phil Hughes' next turn in the rotation. SOURCE: Mark Feinsand, New York Daily News
Insight: He was expected to pitch on Tuesday but now Hiroki Kuroda (11-12, 3.17 ERA) will move up a day and make the start. At this point, the Yankees have just a 4.5 percent chance of making the playoffs.
Alfonso Soriano, LF9/21/2013 9:20:00 PM
Description: Yankees left fielder Alfonso Soriano homered for the second straight game Saturday against the Giants.
Insight: The Yankee pinstripes have revitalized Soriano; he now has 17 homers and 50 RBI in 52 games with New York after hitting 17 with 51 in 93 games with the Cubs. His 34 homers this year are his most since he hit 46 in 2006.
Ivan Nova, SP9/21/2013 4:25:00 PM
Description: New York starter Ivan Nova recorded his second shutout of the season Saturday against San Francisco.
Insight: The victory snapped a three-start winless streak. Nova has produced a career-best 3.13 ERA in 22 games this season. His final start of the regular season will be Friday versus Houston.
Lyle Overbay, 1BCold9/21/2013 11:52:00 AM
Description: Yankees first baseman Lyle Overbay will have the afternoon off Saturday against the Giants and it's a good thing because he's only a .100 lifetime hitter versus righthander Ryan Vogelsong.
Insight: Plus, he's in the midst of a 1-for-21 slump. Mark Reynolds (.219, 19 HR, 64 RBI) is getting the start in Overbay's place.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B9/20/2013 10:10:00 PM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez hit his 24th career grand slam Friday against the Giants, breaking Lou Gehrig's all-time record.
Insight: Rodriguez entered Friday's game in a 1-for-21 slump. He's batting .261 with seven home runs, 18 RBI and an .822 OPS this season and has proven he'll still be a fantasy factor in 2014 if he's not suspended.
Andy Pettitte, SP9/20/2013 3:15:00 PM
Description: Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte will retire at the end of the 2013 season.
Insight: Pettitte has the perfect schedule to go out on with his final home start on Sunday and what could be the final start of his career in his hometown of Houston. His numbers in 2013 have been pretty pedestrian (10-10, 3.93 ERA) but his overall body of work in 18 major league seasons is impressive (255-152, 3.86 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 2,437 strikeouts).
Alex Rodriguez, 3B9/18/2013 9:56:00 AM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will continue through Thursday to play in the DH role while dealing with his calf injury, according to Chris Toman of MLB.com.

Description: Yankees starter Andy Pettitte threw his seventh straight quality start Tuesday against Toronto but New York failed to support him in a 2-0 loss.

Description: New York left fielder Alfonso Soriano is day-to-day with a sprained thumb. SOURCE: Bryan Hoch, MLB.com

Description: New York second baseman Robinson Cano collected four hits in Friday night's loss to Boston.
Insight: Three of the hits went for extra bases including an RBI double that tied the game in the seventh inning. He's on the verge of his second consecutive 30-HR season.
Brett Gardner, CF9/13/2013 5:54:00 PM
Description: New York center fielder Brett Gardner's availability for the rest of the season appears to be in doubt. SOURCE: Andy McCullough, Newark Star-Ledger
Insight: Gardner, who was diagnosed with a Grade 1 oblique strain on Friday, will be out "a while" according to manager Joe Girardi. Curtis Granderson (.250, 6 HR, 13 RBI) will have to fill in at center field while he's out.
Alfonso Soriano, LF9/13/2013 10:30:00 AM
Description: Yankees outfielder Alfonso Soriano is just a .143 hitter (5-for-350 versus Boston starter John Lacket without a home run.

Brett Gardner, CF9/13/2013 9:50:00 AM
Description: Yankees center fielder Brett Gardner suffered a strained left oblique Thursday against the Orioles and is headed back to New York for an MRI.
Insight: That's obviously not what the Yankees wanted to hear. With only a handful of games left on the schedule, Gardner's season (.273, 8 HR, 52 RBI, 81 runs, 24 SB) might very well be over.

Description: New York center fielder Brett Gardner left Thursday's game against Baltimore with what is believed to be an oblique injury. SOURCE: Jack Curry, YES
Insight: He went 0-for-1 before exiting. Curtis Granderson replaced Gardner (.273, 8 HR, 52 RBI, 24 SB) in center field. Until we hear more, consider him day-to-day.
Phil Hughes, SPCold9/11/2013 10:51:00 PM
Description: Phil Hughes will start for the Yankees Thursday at Baltimore.
Insight: Hughes was replaced in the rotation with David Huff last week but Huff was shelled so the Yankees will turn back to Hughes. He actually has a 3.84 ERA on the road this season, compared to 6.13 at Yankee Stadium, but we wouldn't trust him at Camden Yards against the powerful O's.

Insight: Cano went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI and is hitting .309 with 27 longballs. He had 33 homers last season but drove in just 94 runs and had to drive in 16 over his final 12 games to get there.

Curtis Granderson, LFCold9/11/2013 10:28:00 AM
Description: Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson is 6-for-14 (.429) with three home runs against Orioles starter Scott Feldman.
Insight: This is just going to end up being a lost season for Granderson, who is batting .243 with four homers and 11 RBI in 44 games. He's batting .091 this week so even a favorable matchup may not be enough to get him going.

Derek Jeter, SS9/10/2013 10:40:00 AM
Description: New York shortstop Derek Jeter is out indefinitely after tweaking his ankle Saturday and is expected to miss Tuesday's game against Baltimore.
Insight: The Yankees refuse to admit that Jeter is done for the year but with only three weeks left on the schedule, it's hard to imagine a scenario where he'd return. Expect Eduardo Nunez to fill in at shortstop while Jeter is sidelined.

Insight: He let up a game-tying homer to Will Middlebrooks in the top of the ninth inning. Luckily for fantasy owners, the Yankees won in the bottom of the inning to give Rivera his fifth win of the season. Rivera owns a 3.86 ERA in six games against the Red Sox in 2013.

David Huff, SP9/4/2013 10:01:00 AM
Description: Yankees lefthander David Huff will start in place of Phil Hughes Saturday against the Red Sox.
Insight: Huff hasn't made a major league start since last October. He's pitched well out of the bullpen this season, collecting a 3.32 ERA in 26 2/3 innings. With that said, this isn't going to be an easy matchup for him. The Red Sox are 7-5 against New York this season with a .306 batting average.
Phil Hughes, SPCold9/3/2013 10:34:00 PM
Description: Yankees manager Joe Girardi has demoted Phil Hughes to the bullpen. Hughes is 0-4 with a 6.83 ERA over his last seven starts and 4-13 with a 4.86 ERA on the year.

David Huff, who has gone 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA in 15 innings since being recalled in mid-August, will start Saturday against the Red Sox. He can be avoided in fantasy leagues. Insight: Wells hasn't played since Tuesday and has only seen 17 plate appearances over the past two weeks, but has a favorable history against Feldman and if manager Joe Girardi puts him in the starting lineup, you should too. Update: Wells is not in the starting lineup.
Curtis Granderson, LFHot8/31/2013 10:15:00 AM
Description: Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson is 5-for-11 (.455) with three homers and seven RBI in his career against Baltimore right-hander Scott Feldman.

Description: Yankees right fielder Ichiro Suzuki hit his first home run since the All-Star break Friday against the Orioles.
Insight: Ichiro went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the game but is hitting just 236 in August. He's a big name, but he shouldn't be owned in any fantasy leagues; he doesn't even steal that many bases anymore.
Alfonso Soriano, LFHot8/30/2013 10:32:00 PM
Description: Despite playing just 33 games with the Yankees, Alfonso Soriano is tied for second on the team with 13 home runs.
Insight: It says a little about New York's offense this season and a lot about how much of a monster Soriano has been since coming back to the Yankees. He went deep for the 29th time this season Friday against the Orioles.
CC Sabathia, SPCold8/30/2013 10:27:00 PM
Description: Yankees starter CC Sabathia, who gave up five earned over 5 2/3 innings Friday against the Orioles but managed to come away with a win, is 3-1 over his last four starts despite carrying a 6.17 ERA in that span.

Andy Pettitte, SPHot8/30/2013 4:53:00 PM
Description: The Yankees have swapped Phil Hughes and Andy Pettitte so Pettitte can start Sunday against the Orioles on regular rest. SOURCE: Andrew McCullough, Newark Star-Ledger
Insight: Pettitte is 3-0 with a 0.46 ERA over his last three starts. Hughes has been pushed back to Monday against the White Sox.
Phil Hughes, SPCold8/30/2013 4:49:00 PM
Description: Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes' next start has been pushed back to Monday against the White Sox.
Insight: It's a better matchup than Sunday against the Orioles, but it's hard to trust Hughes at this point, especially for starts at Yankee Stadium. He is 0-6 with a 5.64 ERA over his last nine starts and 1-9 with a 5.79 ERA at home this season.
Robinson Cano, 2B8/30/2013 4:05:00 PM

Curtis Granderson, LF8/30/2013 10:55:00 AM
Description: Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson is hitless in his career against Baltimore right-hander Miguel Gonzalez (0-for-9 with four strikeouts).
Insight: It's unusual for the left-handbaitter to struggle this much against a right-hander as Granderson has hit 51 points higher against righties than lefties (.277 vs. .226) for his career. Avoid this matchup.
Robinson Cano, 2B8/30/2013 10:30:00 AM
Description: New York second baseman Robinson Cano wasn't in the lineup Wednesday versus the Blue Jays, but with a day off Thursday, is hoping to return on Friday for an important series against Baltimore.

Description: New York starter Hiroki Kuroda lost for the third time in a row Wednesday against Toronto (5 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 5 ER).
Insight: Kuroda's slump has to be very troubling if you're a Yankees fan. If they can't count on Kuroda (0-3, 8.10 ERA in his last three starts), the only New York starter who's pitched with any kind of consistency this year, who can they count on? An aging CC Sabathia? Punching bag Phil Hughes? It's just been that kind of year for the Bronx Bombers.
Robinson Cano, 2B8/28/2013 7:11:00 PM
Description: New York second baseman Robinson Cano won't be in the lineup Wednesday versus the Blue Jays.
Insight: It's Cano's first absence of the season. He's day-to-day with a bruised hand. Utility man Mark Reynolds (.214, 17 HR, 53 RBI) will take over at second base.

Description: Yankees starter Andy Pettitte has won three straight starts with a 0.46 ERA. He threw seven scoreless frames and allowed five hits against Toronto in his latest start.
Insight: Pettitte was miserable for most of the year -- after starting out 3-1 with a 2.22 ERA in his first four starts, he went 4-8 with a 5.33 ERA in his next 17 -- and looked to be on track for his first career losing season. However, with three straight wins he is 10-9 with a 4.05 ERA.

Overall, he now has 28 home runs and 84 RBI, with 21 of those homers and 54 of those RBI coming over his last 51 games. The Yankees picked him up just in time to see him reach 2,000 hits and 400 home runs.

Description: According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano's X-rays came back negative.

Robinson Cano, 2B8/27/2013 7:35:00 PM
Description: Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano left Tuesday's game after being hit on the left hand by a pitch.

Description: Yankees infielder Mark Reynolds has never gotten a hit off Blue Jays starter J.A. Happ in 11 career at-bats. He's struck out seven times.
Insight: Reynolds is batting .192 in nine games as a Yankee and it's likely to go lower if he faces this left-hander.
Derek Jeter, SS8/27/2013 10:52:00 AM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is 4-for-8 with a pair of home runs against Blue Jays starter J.A. Happ.

Derek Jeter, SS8/26/2013 6:37:00 PM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is batting second tonight against the Blue Jays.
Insight: It's Jeter's first game in over three weeks. Monday he's facing R.A. Dickey, a pitcher he has struggled against in the past (2-for-13 with 5 K's)
Derek Jeter, SS8/26/2013 1:47:00 PM

Alex Rodriguez, 3B8/25/2013 12:22:00 PM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is not in the lineup Sunday against the Rays.
Insight: Look for Yankees manager Joe Girardi to continue to try to get Rodriguez routine days off to keep the 38-year-old fresh. Rodriguez is hitting .262 with two homers and a .736 OPS in 17 games since returning from the DL.
Derek Jeter, SS8/24/2013 6:02:00 PM
Description: New York shortstop Derek Jeter will return to action Monday against the Blue Jays. SOURCE: Donnie Collins, Scranton Times-Tribune

Description: Yankees righthander Hiroki Kuroda had another rough outing Friday against Tampa Bay.
Insight: The Rays pounded him for nine hits and seven runs in just six innings. Kuroda has now lost three out of four for the Bombers, compiling a 4.39 ERA over that stretch. He'll try to get back on track next time out against Toronto.
Jayson Nix, SS8/22/2013 7:01:00 PM
Description: New York manager Joe Girardi believes Jayson Nix, who suffered a broken hand on Wednesday, will miss the rest of the season. SOURCE: ESPN
Insight: The Yankees placed him on the 15-day disabled list earlier today. Nix was having a good month (.304 AVG in August) but he's only hitting .236 for the season. Eduardo Nunez will get most of the reps at shortstop while Nix and Derek Jeter are out.
Alfonso Soriano, LF8/21/2013 9:50:00 PM
Description: New York left fielder Alfonso Soriano broke a 2-2 tie Wednesday against Toronto with a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Insight: Soriano went 0-for-13 over his previous three games following his absurd 15-for-22 stretch with five homers and 18 RBI. He has hit nine home runs in 24 games with the Yankees after blasting 17 in 93 with the Cubs.
Ichiro Suzuki, RF8/21/2013 9:47:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Ichiro Suzuki picked up his 4,000th professional hit Wednesday against Toronto.

Alex Rodriguez, 3B8/21/2013 5:25:00 PM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will get a rest Wednesday against Toronto.
Insight: Rodriguez went 1-for-7 with a walk and five strikeouts during Tuesday's doubleheader. He's hitting .296 with two homers, six RBI and an .832 OPS in 62 plate appearances since returning from the DL.
Mark Reynolds, DH8/21/2013 11:10:00 AM
Description: Yankees infielder Mark Reynolds has never gotten a hit off Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey in 10 career at-bats.
Insight: Reynolds is batting .250 in four games as a Yankee, but it is inevitable that he'll return to his "normal" production level, particularly if he faces the knuckleballer.
Phil Hughes, SPCold8/20/2013 10:20:00 PM
Description: Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes had his best start since early July Tuesday against the Blue Jays.
Insight: He threw six innings, struck out six and allowed two runs on seven hits in a no decision. Hughes came in with a 6.09 ERA over his last seven starts and is 4-12 with a 4.88 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP this season. He has been especially bad at Yankee Stadium, the site of Tuesday's game, going 1-9 with a 5.79 ERA there.
Robinson Cano, 2B8/20/2013 10:17:00 PM
Description: Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano went 4-for-4 in Game 1 of New York's doubleheader against Toronto Tuesday, and 2-for-4 in the nightcap.
Insight: Cano doubled, homered and drove in five runs total during the two games. He's hitting a ridiculous .576 with eight RBI over his last seven games and .308 on the year. However, he has hit just two home runs since the All-Star break.
Vernon Wells, LF8/20/2013 11:30:00 AM
Description: Yankees OF/1B Vernon Wells is a career .453 hitter (24-for-53) with three home runs versus Blue Jays lefty mark Buehrle, who will pitch the second game of the doubleheader.
Insight: Wells is batting .245 this season with 11 HR and 42 RBI, but most of the damage was done in April. August has started out nicely, he's batting .360 in nine games, and should be started in this favorable matchup.
Robinson Cano, 2B8/20/2013 11:30:00 AM
Description: Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is 8-for-23 with three homers and 10 RBI versus Blue Jays lefty Mark Buehrle, who will pitch the second game of the doubleheader.
Insight: A hot last two weeks has pushed Cano's batting average back over the .300 mark and this nightcap matchup should keep it headed upward.
Eduardo Nunez, SS8/20/2013 10:56:00 AM
Description: New York Yankees infielder Eduardo Nunez is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against Toronto after injuring a hamstring on Sunday night.
Insight: Nunez, who missed two months with an oblique issue, is not expected to need another trip to the DL. Jayson Nix (.230, 2 HR, 22 RBI, 29 runs, 12 SB in 261 at-bats) will start at shortstop in the opener, but doesn't hold much fantasy value.
Hiroki Kuroda, SP8/17/2013 8:40:00 PM
Description: New York starter Hiroki Kuroda struggled in Saturday's loss to the Red Sox (5 2/3 IP, 11 H, 5 R, 3 ER).
Insight: Saturday was the first time Kuroda (11-8, 2.41 ERA) has allowed four runs or more since June 30th. Boston has a pretty formidable lineup so we wouldn't hold it against him. Expect Kuroda to be better next time out against the Blue Jays.
Alfonso Soriano, LFHot8/17/2013 9:45:00 AM
Description: New York left fielder Alfonso Soriano continued his incredible hot streak with three more hits Friday against Boston, but he'll be tested by his past history on Saturday.
Insight: Soriano, who is batting .320 with eight homers and a 1.021 since coming to New York, is just 3-for-30 (.100) in his career against John Lackey.
Mark Reynolds, DH8/17/2013 9:40:00 AM
Description: Yankees newly acquired infielder Mark Reynolds homered in his first game wearing pinstripes, but is just 2-for-11 with eight strikeouts against Boston's Saturday starting pitcher John Lackey.
Insight: Could the Yankees' uniform have the same influence on Reynolds that it's had with Alfonso Soriano? Keep in mind that Reynolds is batting just .218 this season with a .691 OPS in 340 at-bats.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B8/17/2013 9:35:00 AM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has struck out almost half the 58 times he's faced Boston starter John Lackey (25 times).
Insight: Rodriguez owns a .190 career batting average versus Lackey, though five of the hits have left the yard. He's batting .300 in the 10 games since his return from injury.
Curtis Granderson, LF8/16/2013 7:30:00 PM
Description: With left-hander Felix Doubront on the mound, Yankees manager Joe Girardi rested Curtis Granderson Friday night. Granderson is 2-for-13 with nine K against Doubront.
Insight: Granderson is 9-for-17 with two doubles, a homer, two RBI and four walks over his last five games, so fantasy owners will be happy to have him back in the lineup Saturday.
Robinson Cano, 2B8/16/2013 10:28:00 AM
Description: Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is 1-for-16 with four walks and five strikeouts against Boston starrter Felix Doubront.
Insight: Cano has been hot over the past six games, but this matchup may be too much to overcome. The other problem from Cano of late is a lack of power with just five extra base hits (four doubles and a home run) in his last 102 plate appearances.
Curtis Granderson, LF8/16/2013 10:25:00 AM
Description: Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson has struck out nine of the 14 times he's faced Boston left-hander Felix Doubront.
Insight: Granderson hasn't busted out yet in the power department -- he has three homers in 70 at-bats -- but he is batting .450 over the past six games. This matchup, however, is decidedly unfavorable.
Alfonso Soriano, LFHot8/15/2013 9:47:00 PM
Description: New York left fielder Alfonso Soriano continued his incredible hot streak with four more hits Thursday against the Angels.
Insight: This time it came in a losing effort. Soriano went 10-for-14 in the series with four homers and 14 RBI. He's now hitting .296 in 18 games since joining the Yankees.
Mark Reynolds, DH8/15/2013 8:43:00 PM
Description: According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, power-hitting first baseman Mark Reynolds has signed on to play for the Yankees.
Insight: Well that didn't take long. We knew Reynolds' power would attract someone sooner or later. It's unknown what his role will be in the Bronx. Fantasy owners should be aware that Reynolds is hitting just .185 since the All-Star break.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B8/15/2013 10:16:00 AM
Description: In 19 at-bats against Angels starter C.J. Wilson, Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has picked up just one hit.
Insight: Rodriguez is 8-for-31 (.258) with two doubles and one homer in eight games since returning from the disabled list. He shouldn't be in any lineups Thursday.
Ichiro Suzuki, RF8/15/2013 10:11:00 AM
Description: Yankees right fielder Ichiro Suzuki is just 9-for-46 with 12 strikeouts and one RBI in his career against Angels starter C.J. Wilson.
Insight: While the Yankees have Alfonso Soriano, Brett Gardner and Curtis Granderson locked in as starters, Ichiro is still getting everyday at-bats because manager Joe Girardi has been using the DH to get one of those four players a half day off. However, he doesn't have much fantasy value on a normal day and is unlikely to do anything if he's in the lineup Thursday against Wilson.
Curtis Granderson, LFHot8/14/2013 10:12:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson is 8-for-14 with two doubles, a homer, two RBI, two walks and five runs over his last four games.
Insight: Granderson hasn't busted out yet in the power department -- he has three homers in 67 at-bats -- but his bat has awakened the last few games.
Ivan Nova, SPHot8/14/2013 10:04:00 PM
Description: Yankees right-hander Ivan Nova has fired at least seven innings and allowed three runs or less in each of his last seven starts.
Insight: Nova gave up three runs on 10 hits, struck out six and didn't walk a batter over seven frames Wednesday in a win over the Angels. He has a 1.90 ERA over 52 innings since rejoining the rotation in early July.
Robinson Cano, 2B8/14/2013 9:59:00 PM
Description: After going 13-for-68 (.191) with one homer and four RBI from July 22 to Aug. 12, Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano has gone 6-for-7 with three RBI over his last two games.
Insight: Cano went 4-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored Wednesday against the Angels. All four of the hits were singles, however. Cano has just five extra-base hits in 96 plate appearances since the All-Star break.
Alfonso Soriano, LFHot8/14/2013 9:55:00 PM
Description: One night after going 3-for-6 with two homers and six RBI, Yankees left fielder Alfonso Soriano topped himself by hitting two more homers and driving in seven as part of a 3-for-3 performance.
Insight: It's safe to say the Angels have seen enough of Soriano after he has clobbered them these last two games. Soriano is hitting .258 with seven homers and 21 RBI in 17 games since rejoining New York.
Curtis Granderson, LFHot8/14/2013 9:52:00 AM
Description: New York outfielder Curtis Granderson is a career .360 hitter (9-for-25) with five home runs and a 1.367 OPS versus Angels right-hander Jered Weaver.
Insight: Granderson is 5-for-8 in the first two games of the series against the Angels and now faces an extremely favorable matchup. Make sure he's in your lineup on Wednesday.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B8/14/2013 9:50:00 AM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is 8-for-24 (.333) with five homers and a 1.448 OPS versus Angels right-hander Jered Weaver.
Insight: Rodriguez has hit safely in six of the seven games he's played, but has just two extra base hits in 30 plate appearances. That might change on Wednesday in thei favorable matchup.
Vernon Wells, LF8/13/2013 11:11:00 PM
Description: Yankees left fielder Vernon Wells' home run Tuesday against the Angels was his first since May 15.
Insight: In 64 consecutive homerless games since his last longball, Wells batted .199 with nine extra-base hits, 16 RBI, 10 walks, 40 strikeouts and a .476 OPS.
Alfonso Soriano, LF8/13/2013 11:08:00 PM
Description: Yankees left fielder Alfonso Soriano went 3-for-6 with two homers, six RBI and three runs scored Tuesday against the Angels.
Insight: In 16 games since rejoining New York, Soriano is hitting just .222 with 21 K, but he has hit five homers and driven in 14 runs in that span.
CC Sabathia, SPCold8/13/2013 10:56:00 PM
Description: New York starter CC Sabathia threw a quality start by definition Tuesday against the Angels, but it wasn't exactly his best work.
Insight: Sabathia allowed two earned runs (three total) on three hits but walked six over six innings. The left-hander has a 4.66 ERA and has allowed a career-high 26 homers in 166 innings this season.
Derek Jeter, SS8/13/2013 9:29:00 PM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter (calf) took batting practice on the field Tuesday for the first time since going on the disabled list with a right calf strain on Aug. 3, according to MLB.com.
Insight: Jeter also took ground balls at shortstop and did some light running on the field. He made it clear his timetable is entirely up to the Yankees. "It's a day-to-day thing," Jeter said. "They told me I'm taking BP, so I'm taking BP. Tomorrow, I don't know. I know I'm going to Tampa on Thursday. That's all I know." He said he doesn't know if he'll have to play rehab games before returning. "I always think I can just jump back in. I did last time," Jeter said. "If they want me to go play somewhere, I'll go play somewhere. It's entirely up to them. I'm not really in a power position to negotiate. That's all I can say."
Brett Gardner, CF8/13/2013 4:59:00 PM
Description: Yankees center fielder Brett Gardner is getting a night off Tuesday against the Angels.
Insight: Gardner, who is hitting .273 with eight homers, 39 RBI, 61 runs and 20 steals this season, should be back in the lineup Wednesday.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B8/13/2013 10:32:00 AM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is hitless in eight tries against Angels left-hander Jason Vargas.
Insight: Rodriguez has hit safely in five of the six games he's played, but has just one extra base hit in 25 plate appearances. This unfavorable matchup isn't likely to help.
Robinson Cano, 2B8/13/2013 10:28:00 AM
Description: Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is 8-for-18 (.444) against Angels starter Jason Vargas.
Insight: Like the rest of his teammates, Cano has forgotten how to hit the ball out of the park. After hitting seven homers in April and again in May, Cano has hit just eight from June 1 through August 12 (63 games). We'd like to think this matchup will help, but six of his eight hits off Vargas were singles and the other two were doubles.
Hiroki Kuroda, SPHot8/12/2013 10:02:00 PM
Description: Yankees ace Hiroki Kuroda threw all zeros Monday against the Angels.
Insight: Another outstanding performance from the Yankees' new go-to guy. Kuroda is 4-1 with a 0.94 ERA in his last seven contests. He's in the Cy Young conversation along with Max Scherzer, Bartolo Colon, Yu Darvish and Felix Hernandez.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B8/12/2013 8:13:00 PM
Description: The Yankees have fined third baseman Alex Rodriguez more than $150,000 for seeking a second opinion on his injured quad without the team's permission. SOURCE: Wallace Matthews, ESPN
Insight: Rodriguez was also fined for not showing up to a rehab game last month. Right now, A-Rod is appealing his 211-game PED suspension.
Kevin Youkilis, 3B8/12/2013 7:54:00 PM
Description: According to the New York Daily News, Yankees corner infielder Kevin Youkilis is still holding out hope that he can return before the end of the season.
Insight: Youkilis has been out since June after undergoing back surgery. The original timetable given for a return was 10-to-12 weeks but Youkilis admitted "it's different for everybody." We haven't heard anything about Youk beginning a rehab assignment and at this point he's a longshot to return before the close of the 2013 campaign.
Curtis Granderson, LF8/12/2013 10:20:00 AM
Description: New York outfielder Curtis Granderson has only faced Angels right-hander Garrett Richards three times, but he's blasted two homers and knocked in four runs.
Insight: Granderson hasn't done much since returning from his second trip to the disabled list, batting .179 with a .647 OPS in 36 plate appearances, but this is a favorable matchup.
Brett Gardner, CF8/11/2013 5:35:00 PM
Description: Brett Gardner sent the Yankees home with a victory Sunday against Detroit.
Insight: Gardner's walkoff homer gave New York a 5-4 win in the series finale. The home run, Gardner's eighth of the year, was his only hit of the game.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B8/11/2013 5:26:00 PM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez blasted his first home run of the season Sunday against the Tigers.
Insight: It was a solo shot off Justin Verlander. Rodriguez has recorded hits in four out of five games since returning from the disabled list.
Mariano Rivera, RPCold8/11/2013 4:31:00 PM
Description: Yankees closer Mariano Rivera blew a third straight save chance for the first time in his career Sunday against the Tigers.
Insight: Miguel Cabrera took him deep for the second time in the series and then Victor Martinez hit one out to tie the game. However, the Yankees won it in the bottom of the ninth to get Rivera his third win of the season. Rivera had allowed two home runs all season prior to Friday, but he has allowed three in his last two appearances.
Phil Hughes, SPCold8/10/2013 6:59:00 PM
Description: Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes has allowed 14 earned runs on 22 hits in 11 innings over his last three starts.
Insight: The longball continues to be a major issue for the right-hander. He served up two more Saturday against the Tigers and has allowed 22 in 119 innings (1.66 HR/9).
Alex Rodriguez, 3B8/8/2013 10:24:00 AM
Description: New York third baseman Alex Rodriguez has officially begun appealing his 211-game PED suspension. SOURCE: Associated Press
Insight: The move was expected so this is really just a formality. Rodriguez has gone 3-for-11 since returning from the disabled list on Monday.
Mariano Rivera, RP8/8/2013 9:59:00 AM
Description: Yankees closer Mariano Rivera blew just his third save of the season Wednesday against the White Sox.
Insight: Adam Dunn got to him for an RBI single with two outs in the ninth. The run was the first he's allowed since the All-Star break so fantasy owners have no reason to be concerned. The Yankees have lost four straight and are now just one game above .500. They need a lot of good things to happen if they hope to make it back to the postseason.
CC Sabathia, SPCold8/8/2013 9:44:00 AM
Description: While it wasn't as bad as some of his previous outings, New York starter CC Sabathia still didn't look like himself Wednesday in a no-decision against the White Sox.
Insight: Sabathia started off strong (opened with four scoreless innings) but the wheels began to fall off later in the game as the White Sox got to him for one run in the fifth and two more in the seventh. The lefthander is in the middle of the worst slump of his career with an 0-4 record in his last six starts (7.00 ERA over that span).
Michael Pineda, SP8/6/2013 5:19:00 PM
Description: Yankees right-hander Michael Pineda's tests on his right shoulder came back clean, according to Andy McCullough of the Newark Star-Ledger.
Insight: Pineda will be shut down for 7-10 days. The right-hander had surgery on the same shoulder last year and hasn't pitched in the big leagues since his rookie year in 2011. At this point, the Yankees trade of Pineda for Jesus Montero and Hector Noesi with the Mariners hasn't worked out for either team.
David Phelps, SP8/6/2013 5:17:00 PM
Description: New York starter David Phelps has a new elbow strain and will be shut down for two weeks, according to Andy McCullough of the Newark Star-Ledger.
Insight: Phelps has been out since July 5 due to a right forearm strain. He's questionable to make it back this season, and even if he does his rotation spot has been taken by Ivan Nova.
Andy Pettitte, SP8/5/2013 10:48:00 PM
Description: New York starter Andy Pettitte was rocked Monday night against the White Sox.
Insight: Pettitte (7-8, 4.71 ERA) surrendered 11 hits and seven earned runs before finally getting the hook with two outs in the third inning. Monday was Pettitte's shortest outing since July 18, 2010.
Vernon Wells, LF8/5/2013 6:55:00 PM
Description: Vernon Wells will get the start at first base Monday against the White Sox.
Insight: In 15 years in the league, Wells has never played a game at first base. This should be interesting.
Derek Jeter, SS8/5/2013 6:53:00 PM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has been placed on the disabled list.
Insight: He's dealing with a mild calf strain. Alex Rodriguez will take Jeter's place on the team's active roster.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B8/5/2013 6:51:00 PM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has been activated from the disabled list.
Insight: He'll start at third base and hit cleanup tonight against Chicago. A-Rod was suspended 211 games for his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal on Monday but the appeals process could last the rest of the season. In the short term, he might be a decent pickup if you're looking for help at third base.
Derek Jeter, SS8/5/2013 12:07:00 PM
Description: New York shortstop Derek Jeter has been diagnosed with a mild calf strain and is expected to miss Monday's game against the Chicago White Sox.
Insight: At least it's not something more serious. His season to date consists of five games and 19 official at-bats.
Derek Jeter, SS8/4/2013 10:50:00 PM
Description: New York shortstop Derek Jeter has been diagnosed with a mild calf strain. SOURCE: Andy McCullough, Newark Star-Ledger
Insight: At least it's not something more serious. Still, we'd be surprised if he played Monday against the White Sox.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B8/4/2013 8:59:00 PM
Description: Commissioner Bud Selig is unlikely to invoke the "best interests" clause when he suspends Alex Rodriguez on Monday. SOURCE: Joel Sherman, New York Post
Insight: This means that A-Rod will be allowed to appeal his suspension instead of being suspended immediately. Jon Heyman from CBS Sports notes that if Rodriguez loses his appeal, his 214-game suspension could spill over into the 2015 season. Rodriguez has finished his rehab assignment with Double-A Trenton and expects to make his season debut Monday versus the White Sox.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B8/4/2013 4:13:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN, Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is expected to be suspended for the remainder of the 2013 season and also all of the 2014 campaign. All Biogenesis suspensions will be handed out on Monday.
Insight: The ban would essentially end A-Rod's career. A suspension of this length (214 games) is unprecedented in Major League Baseball. Rodriguez plans to appeal the ruling and could make his season debut Monday versus the White Sox. As New York Post columnist Joel Sherman joked, only A-Rod could "be banished and make his debut in the same day."
Derek Jeter, SS8/4/2013 4:05:00 PM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter underwent an MRI on his injured calf. SOURCE: Andy McCullough, Newark Star-Ledger
Insight: The results should give us an indication of how much time Jeter can be expected to miss. Injuries have limited the 13-time All-Star to just five games this season.
Michael Pineda, SP8/4/2013 2:43:00 PM
Description: Yankees right-hander Michael Pineda (shoulder) left his most recent start at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with right shoulder stiffness, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.
Insight: Pineda had surgery on the shoulder so this is a huge red flag. He's headed to New York to be examined.
Curtis Granderson, LF8/4/2013 1:53:00 PM
Description: New York outfielder Curtis Granderson will play in his third consecutive game on Sunday. It's good to see him playing everyday.
Insight: Granderson got his first hits and first home run since returning to the lineup on Friday. He's played just 10 games so far this season, but should be out there every day as long as he can stay healthy.
Alfonso Soriano, LF8/4/2013 10:05:00 AM
Description: Yankees left fielder Alfonso Soriano is a career .462 hitter (6-for-13) with three home runs and seven RBI against Padres newly acquired starter Ian Kennedy.
Insight: Soriano is 7-for-26 (.269) since arriving in New York, but has 18 homers between the Cubs and Yankees this season.
Derek Jeter, SS8/4/2013 9:18:00 AM
Description: New York shortstop Derek Jeter will miss Sunday's game versus the Padres because of a calf injury.
Insight: It's looking more and more like this will be a "lost" year for Jeter, who has played just five games all season. Fantasy owners who jumped on the bandwagon after he posted 216 hits last year have fallen victim to father time - 39-year-olds just don't heal quickly.
Derek Jeter, SS8/3/2013 5:49:00 PM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter will take the next two days off with a calf problem, according to Andy McCullough of the Star Ledger.
Insight: It's looking more and more like this will be a "lost" year for Jeter, who has played just five games all season.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B8/2/2013 8:18:00 PM
Description: Ken Davidoff of the New York Post is hearing that the Biogenesis suspensions will be handed out on Monday. All players negotiating deals with the league have until 6 p.m. Sunday night to settle their cases.
Insight: The suspensions may have been handed out earlier if Alex Rodriguez hadn't delayed the process by refusing to reach a settlement on the terms of his suspension. He doesn't have much of a leg to stand on and it sounds like he'll be facing a season-long ban at minimum. Rodriguez is expected to make his season debut on Sunday or Monday but obviously the Biogenesis rulings could change that.
Curtis Granderson, LF8/2/2013 7:07:00 PM
Description: New York outfielder Curtis Granderson is back in the lineup after missing more than two months with a broken pinkie. SOURCE: YES Network
Insight: Granderson will play left field and bat fifth. His return creates a bit of a logjam in the Yankees' outfield with four players (Granderson, Brett Gardner, Alfonso Soriano and Ichiro Suzuki) vying for three spots. As long as he stays healthy, Granderson should be in the lineup most days.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B8/1/2013 7:09:00 PM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez (quad) will play rehab games with Double-A Trenton Friday and Saturday, according to Erik Boland of Newsday.
Insight: Rodriguez is rehabbing from a quad strain he suffered during his rehab assignment for hip surgery. Meanwhile, he has a suspension coming from Major League Baseball and might never play another professional game if he's suspended through 2014.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B8/1/2013 11:13:00 AM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez said last week that he would appeal his Biogenesis suspension but now it appears he's working with Major League Baseball on a settlement similar to the one Ryan Braun worked out with the league earlier this month. SOURCE: T.J. Quinn, ESPN's Outside the Lines
Insight: The league was threatening Rodriguez with a lifetime ban if he didn't accept his suspension. We're expected to hear a ruling later in the week. Meanwhile, the 14-time All-Star is set to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Trenton on Friday.
Hiroki Kuroda, SPHot8/1/2013 10:20:00 AM
Description: New York starter Hiroki Kuroda lowered his ERA to 2.38 after hurling seven shutout innings Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Insight: Kuroda is pitching out of his mind right now. In five July starts, he allowed just two runs in 33 innings. Many questioned the Yankees for re-signing Kuroda because of his age (he turned 38 in February) but now it's looking like the best deal of the 2013 offseason.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B7/31/2013 7:47:00 PM
Description: New York third baseman Alex Rodriguez is hoping to begin a rehab assignment on Friday. Rodriguez was close to returning to the big leagues earlier this month but a quad injury pushed back his recovery time. SOURCE: ESPN New York
Insight: The Yankees haven't decided where he'll be doing his rehab though Scranton and Trenton are both possibilities. Rodriguez is expected to receive a lengthy suspension for his role in the Biogenesis scandal later this week. If Rodriguez appeals the suspension instead of negotiating a settlement, he could be facing a lifetime ban.
Curtis Granderson, LF7/31/2013 4:57:00 PM
Description: Yankees GM Brian Cashman said the team is planning to activate left fielder Curtis Granderson (hand) Friday at San Diego.
Insight: New York didn't make any moves at the trade deadline after acquiring Alfonso Soriano Friday, but getting Derek Jeter back last week and Granderson back Friday should help immensely. Granderson has played just eight games this season after breaking his forearm in spring training and his pinky on May 24. Both injuries happened when he was hit by a pitch.
Alfonso Soriano, LF7/31/2013 10:30:00 AM
Description: Yankees left fielder Alfonso Soriano just left the National League, but he'll get to face Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw Wednesday in an interleague matchup.
Insight: Soriano is 4-for-11 (.364) with a double and two homers off the left-hander. He's batting .294 with one homer in four games since returning to New York in a trade with the Cubs.
Derek Jeter, SS7/28/2013 8:30:00 PM
Description: Yankees captain Derek Jeter returned to the lineup Sunday, played shortstop for the first time since suffering a fractured ankle last October and went 2-for-4 with a solo homer.
Insight: Jeter also took a walk in the game, which was just his second of the season. He suffered a quad strain in his 2013 season debut on July 11.
Ichiro Suzuki, RF7/28/2013 8:26:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Ichiro Suzuki picked up four singles in four at-bats Sunday to raise his average to .279.
Insight: Ichiro used to pick up four-hit games routinely, but he's not that player anymore. He hadn't collected multiple hits in his last nine games prior to Sunday.
Alfonso Soriano, LF7/28/2013 8:21:00 PM
Description: Yankees left fielder Alfonso Soriano went 0-for-8 in his first two games with the Yankees and 0-for-15 in his previous four games before going 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBI Sunday against the Rays.
Insight: Soriano even drove in the winning run with a walk-off single. He has slammed nine home runs in the month of July.
Curtis Granderson, LF7/28/2013 12:49:00 PM
Description: Yankees left fielder Curtis Granderson is close to returning from the disabled list. He's missed the last two months with a broken pinkie. SOURCE: Daniel Barbisi, Wall Street Journal
Insight: Manager Joe Girardi thinks Granderson could be back before the end of the week. New York's offense has been pathetic lately so having Granderson healthy again will be huge.
Derek Jeter, SS7/28/2013 12:05:00 PM
Description: Unlike his teammate Vernon Wells, Derek Jeter has great numbers versus Matt Moore.
Insight: Jeter owns a .455 average against Moore in 11 at bats. Sunday will be Jeter's first game in over two weeks.
Vernon Wells, LF7/28/2013 12:02:00 PM
Description: We wouldn't recommend starting Vernon Wells Sunday versus Tampa Bay. He's only had one hit in 15 at bats against lefty Matt Moore.
Insight: Wells is actually hitting .305 this month but that's not likely to increase Sunday with Moore throwing for the Rays. Wells is getting the start at DH and will hit fifth behind Alfonso Soriano.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B7/28/2013 11:39:00 AM
Description: According to the New York Post, MLB is expected to hand out Biogenesis suspensions sometime this week.
Insight: The report states that Rodriguez is in danger of being suspended for the remainder of the 2013 season and also all of the 2014 campaign. Rodriguez has said that he will appeal any suspension he's given. He's still rehabbing a quad injury and probably won't be back in the big leagues until mid-August.
Jayson Nix, SS7/28/2013 11:05:00 AM
Description: Yankees infielder Jayson Nix, out since the beginning of the month with a strained hamstring, is slated to return Tuesday against the Dodgers. SOURCE: Sweeny Murti, WFAN
Insight: Now that Derek Jeter is back in the lineup, we're not sure what Nix's role will be. Third base seems like a logical spot for Nix now that Alex Rodriguez's rehab is being delayed. Nix has played every infield position this season except for first base. Last year he even got a few starts in left field, though that position will likely be occupied by Alfonso Soriano for the forseeable future.
Derek Jeter, SS7/28/2013 10:31:00 AM
Description: Derek Jeter will play shortstop and bat second Sunday versus Tampa Bay. Jeter has been out since July 11th with a strained quad.
Insight: Sunday will be Jeter's first appearance at shortstop since last year's playoffs. Yankees shortstops have hit a combined .215 in 2013. Only the Mariners (.198 AVG) and Mets (.212) have gotten less production out of the shortstop position this season.
Robinson Cano, 2B7/28/2013 10:00:00 AM
Description: If the Yankees haven't hit rock bottom, they're getting awful close. The Bombers have now gone 308 second half at bats without a home run.
Insight: Even more puzzling is the fact that the Yankees, the team with the most homers in baseball from 2011 to 2012, have received just one home run from a righthanded hitter since June 5th. Even with A-Rod on the comeback trail and Derek Jeter slated to return on Sunday, the Yankees (3-6 since the All-Star break) and their anemic offense are longshots to make the postseason.
Derek Jeter, SS7/27/2013 4:17:00 PM
Description: Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that shortstop Derek Jeter (quad) will play Sunday as long as he's okay when he gets to Yankee Stadium, according to Jack Curry of the YES Network.
Insight: Jeter suffered a Grade 1 quad strain in his 2013 debut after missing the entire season with a fractured ankle. He played a simulated game Saturday to test out the quad, and it appears everything went well.
Ivan Nova, SPHot7/27/2013 4:03:00 PM
Description: Yankees right-hander Ivan Nova was the tough-luck loser Saturday against the Rays.
Insight: Nova struck out eight and allowed just one run in seven innings, but Chris Archer threw a two-hit shutout on the other side. Nova is 2-2 since rejoining the rotation on July 5, but he has a 2.03 ERA and a 29/9 K/BB in 31 innings during that timeframe.
Derek Jeter, SS7/27/2013 1:00:00 PM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter (quad) could be back Sunday if all goes well with his simulated game Saturday.
Insight: Jeter suffered a Grade 1 quad strain in his 2013 debut after missing the entire season with a fractured ankle. Saturday is the first day he's eligible to come off the disabled list, but the team will have him test his quad first.
Alfonso Soriano, LFCold7/26/2013 7:01:00 PM
Description: Alfonso Soriano is playing left field and batting cleanup Friday against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Soriano was traded to the Yankees earlier in the day. He's had a tough go of it since the All-Star break, hitting just .158 in 19 at bats. A matchup with the red-hot Rays (winners of 19 out of 22) probably won't help him break out of his slump.
Alfonso Soriano, LFCold7/26/2013 4:08:00 PM
Description: The Yankees' deal for Cubs left fielder Alfonso Soriano is done, according to ESPN.
Insight: Chicago will absorb $17.7 million of the estimated $24.5 million remaining on Soriano's contract, which runs until the end of 2014. The trade will return Soriano to the team he played for the first five seasons of his career.
Robinson Cano, 2B7/26/2013 9:59:00 AM
Description: Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano has picked up five hits in 15 at-bats (.333) against Rays starter Jeremy Hellickson, with four of those going for extra bases.
Insight: Cano has hit two homers off Hellickson. After hitting safely in 12 straight games, Cano has gone 3-for-16 over his last four, but he's in line for a strong performance Friday.
Hiroki Kuroda, SP7/25/2013 7:39:00 PM
Description: Yankees right-hander Hiroki Kuroda pitched the Yankees to a series split with the Texas Rangers Thursday.
Insight: Kuroda twirled a gem, throwing seven scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 2.51, a mark that is second in the American League.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B7/25/2013 5:07:00 PM
Description: According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez had his quad examined by a team doctor Thursday, and GM Brian Cashman said A-Rod will be limited to light conditioning and won't play rehab games until early August.
Insight: Meanwhile, after Rodriguez had his personal doctor declare his quad 100 percent healthy on WFAN Wednesday, the third baseman released a statement Thursday that he is "excited and ready to play" as soon as Friday. The Yankees plan to discipline Rodriguez for seeking a second opinion on his quad without getting permission, and the third baseman is also waiting for MLB to assess his punishment for the Biogenesis case. This entire situation is surreal.
Derek Jeter, SS7/25/2013 1:36:00 PM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter (quad) ran the bases on Thursday and could be on pace for a Saturday return.
Insight: Jeter suffered a Grade 1 quad strain in his 2013 debut after missing the entire season with a fractured ankle. Saturday is the first day he's eligible to come off the disabled list.
Brett Gardner, CF7/24/2013 10:35:00 AM
Description: Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner is just a career .143 hitter (2-for-14) against new Texas Rangers starter Matt Garza.
Insight: Gardner has also never stolen a base off the right-hander and that's the category in which he helps fantasy owners the most. He's batting .278 with seven homers, 34 RBI, 54 runs and a .768 OPS, but this is not a favorable matchup.
Derek Jeter, SS7/23/2013 8:03:00 PM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter (quad) took batting practice Tuesday, according to WFAN's Sweeny Murti.
Insight: Jeter suffered a Grade 1 quad strain in his 2013 debut after missing the entire season with a fractured ankle. He's eligible to come off the disabled list Saturday, but the team is uncertain if he'll be activated.
Ichiro Suzuki, RF7/22/2013 9:50:00 AM
Description: Yankees right fielder Ichiro Suzuki is a career .500 hitter (7-for-14) against Texas right-hander Yu Darvish.
Insight: Apparently there are still a few matchups that Ichiro gets excited about. The outfielder is batting .277 this season with six homers, 25 RBI, 38 runs and 13 steals, however, he was just 2-for-14 in the recently completed series with Boston.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B7/21/2013 8:14:00 PM
Description: The New York Post's Joel Sherman is reporting that Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez' MRI revealed a Grade 1 strain of his left quad.
Insight: Rodriguez was aiming to make his 2013 debut Monday after missing the entire season following hip surgery in the offseason, but this new injury will prevent that. Rodriguez might need to go out on a second rehab assignment after his first one expired Sunday. The third baseman likely won't return before August.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B7/21/2013 1:47:00 PM
Description: The New York Post's Joel Sherman is reporting that Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has left his rehab assignment in Scranton to undergo an MRI in New York City.
Insight: What a mess. A-Rod was supposed to come off the DL Monday against Texas but now a calf injury is setting him back. He's also used up his minor league rehab time, which makes things even more complicated. Either way, we'd be shocked if Rodriguez joins the team in time for Monday's series opener in Arlington.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B7/21/2013 11:04:00 AM
Description: The Yankees still haven't made a decision on Alex Rodriguez though Joel Sherman of the New York Post is starting to doubt his availability for the team's upcoming series in Texas.
Insight: A-Rod tweaked his quad in a rehab game earlier this weekend and he won't play on Sunday. Sherman suggested that Rodriguez, who is close to exceeding his 20-day rehab limit, could take a few days off to rest before testing out his quad again at the team's spring training facility in Tampa. If that were to happen, A-Rod could be ready for Friday's series opener against the Rays.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B7/21/2013 10:11:00 AM
Description: Quad tightness prevented Alex Rodriguez from playing third base Saturday in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. SOURCE: Bryan Hoch, MLB.com
Insight: Instead, he served as the DH and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. A-Rod's 20-day rehab window is quickly coming to a close. It's unknown if this setback will prevent Rodriguez from returning Monday against Texas, which was originally the team's plan.
Curtis Granderson, LF7/20/2013 11:24:00 AM
Description: New York left fielder Curtis Granderson is expected to begin a rehab assignment in 7-10 days, according to a Newark Star-Ledger report.
Insight: Granderson broke his pinkie in late May and hasn't played since. The three-time All-Star has only appeared in eight games this season. Sounds like a first week of August return.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B7/20/2013 11:22:00 AM
Description: Yankees GM Brian Cashman confirmed that third baseman Alex Rodriguez (hip) is expected to return to the majors Monday.
Insight: Rodriguez is batting just .222 in his 12 rehab games. He has missed the entire season following hip surgery and also has a pending Biogenesis suspension to worry about, but he's still worth a pickup for fantasy owners who don't have an elite third baseman.
Ichiro Suzuki, RF7/20/2013 9:30:00 AM
Description: Yankees right fielder Ichiro Suzuki is a career .304 hitter (31-for-102) against Boston starter John Lackey.
Insight: Ichiro has also stolen 11 bases off Lackey over his career, so if he gets on, he's likely running. The outfielder is batting .283 this season with six homers, 25 RBI, 36 runs and 13 steals.
Brett Gardner, CF7/19/2013 9:51:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner was ejected from Friday's game at Boston.
Insight: Gardner struck out looking on a 3-2 pitch in the fifth inning, threw down his helmet with both hands and was immediately run by the home plate umpire.
Derek Jeter, SS7/19/2013 5:08:00 PM
Description: The Yankees placed shortstop Derek Jeter on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 12, with a strained right quad.
Insight: Jeter suffered the injury in his 2013 debut after missing the entire season due to a fractured ankle. Jeter is eligible to return next Saturday.
Robinson Cano, 2B7/19/2013 3:55:00 PM
Description: Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is just 1-for-14 (.071) versus Boston starter Felix Doubront with four strikeouts. Latest update - Cano is in Friday's starting lineup.
Insight: NL starter Matt Harvey drilled Cano near the right knee with a 96 mph fastball in his first All-Star at-bat and Cano was listed as questionable for Friday. Add in the poor matchup history and Cano is not a good choice for Friday's second-half opener.
Robinson Cano, 2B7/19/2013 9:48:00 AM
Description: Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is just 1-for-14 (.071) versus Boston starter Felix Doubront with four strikeouts.
Insight: NL starter Matt Harvey drilled Cano near the right knee with a 96 mph fastball in his first All-Star at-bat, so Cano is listed as questionable for Friday's game. Add in the poor matchup history and Cano is not a good choice for Friday's second-half opener.
Derek Jeter, SS7/17/2013 6:08:00 PM
Description: We're still waiting for an update on Derek Jeter.
Insight: ESPN New York's Andrew Marchand reported Wednesday that Jeter's status for the team's upcoming series with the Red Sox is still up in the air. Jeter strained his right quad last Thursday in his season debut. If the Yankees play it safe and put Jeter back on the DL, he would be eligible to return on July 26th.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B7/17/2013 6:05:00 PM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez (hip) told Mike Francesa on WFAN Wednesday that he expects to return to the majors Monday.
Insight: Rodriguez is batting just .179 in his ten rehab games. He has missed the entire season following hip surgery and also has a pending Biogenesis suspension to worry about, but he's still worth a pickup for fantasy owners who don't have an elite third baseman.
Mariano Rivera, RP7/17/2013 12:32:00 PM
Description: New York closer Mariano Rivera was named All-Star Game MVP Tuesday night at Citi Field.
Insight: Rivera came onto the field to a standing ovation with his trademark "Enter Sandman" blaring over the stadium speakers. In his only inning of work, the 43-year-old got Jean Segura to ground out, Allen Craig to line out to left and then got Carlos Gomez to ground out to shortstop to end the inning. Rivera, who has already announced that he will retire after the season, is second in the AL with 30 saves in 32 chances.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B7/17/2013 12:27:00 PM
Description: Despite a lackluster showing at Double-A Trenton on Tuesday (0-for-3), Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will move up to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday night.
Insight: He's batting just .179 in his ten rehab games. Rodriguez is hoping to return to the majors Monday night against Texas.
Robinson Cano, 2B7/16/2013 9:10:00 PM
Description: According to Marc Carig of Newsday, Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano's X-rays came back negative. Cano left the All-Star Game Tuesday after being hit by a pitch in the first inning.
Insight: NL starter Matt Harvey drilled Cano near the right knee with a 96 mph fastball, but he was hit more near the quad than his kneecap. The second baseman expects to be fine.
Robinson Cano, 2B7/16/2013 8:56:00 PM
Description: According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is expected to be fine. Cano left the All-Star Game Tuesday after being hit by a pitch in the first inning.
Insight: NL starter Matt Harvey drilled Cano near the right knee with a 96 mph fastball, but Rosenthal said he was told Cano got hit more in the quadriceps area than the kneecap.
Robinson Cano, 2B7/16/2013 8:30:00 PM
Description: Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano took a 96 mph fastball from Mets starter Matt Harvey off the outside of his right knee in the first inning of Tuesday's All-Star Game and had to leave the game.
Insight: Cano stayed in the game for Miguel Cabrera's at-bat but exited the field after it. Based on how things have gone for the Yankees with injuries this season, it's fitting their best player suffered an injury during a glorified exhibition game. We should have an update on Cano's status soon.

Description: New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez homered in Monday's rehab game.
Insight: Rodriguez says he's "about a week away" from being ready, according to a Newark Star-Ledger report. Of course, that doesn't mean he'll get on the field anytime soon as he has a long suspension hanging over his head from the Biogenesis issue.

Description: New York third baseman Alex Rodriguez will report to Double-A Trenton on Monday. SOURCE: Yankees on Twitter
Insight: He's hitting just .143 in eight rehab games so far and has a possible 150-game suspension hanging over his head. ESPN's Buster Olney said that Rodriguez is "really struggling" and that he also "looks heavy." Things aren't looking good at all for A-Rod right now.
Ichiro Suzuki, RF7/14/2013 9:08:00 PM
Description: Yankees right fielder Ichiro Suzuki belted his sixth home run of the year Sunday against the Twins.
Insight: Ichiro finished the game with three hits. It didn't seem to help much as the Yankees still lost by six runs. The injury-plagued Bombers have now lost five out of eight after opening the month with six straight wins.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B7/14/2013 12:41:00 PM
Description: According to the New York Daily News, Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez could be facing a 150-game suspension for his connection to the Biogenesis clinic.
Insight: Rodriguez's lawyers might try to broker a plea deal with MLB to reduce A-Rod's looming punishment, and 150 games might the best-case scenario for him. The third baseman met with MLB officials for more than four hours Friday and they outlined their case against him. A-Rod then failed to report for Friday's rehab game with Single-A Tampa, telling GM Brian Cashman that he "just couldn't make it."
Phil Hughes, SP7/13/2013 9:03:00 PM
Description: Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes struck out a career-high 10 batters in 7 1/3 innings Saturday against the Twins, but he gave up three homers and four earned runs.
Insight: Hughes (4-9, 4.57 ERA) only allowed five hits in the game, but three left the park. He has allowed 1.58 HR/9 this year after giving up 1.65 per nine in 2012.
Curtis Granderson, CF7/13/2013 12:15:00 PM
Description: Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson, who broke his fifth metacarpal in his left hand on May 25, has yet to start swinging a bat and according to GM Brian Cashman isn't likely to return until sometime in August.
Insight: The team was hoping for a return by the end of July. Granderson suffered a broken left forearm after being hit by a pitch during spring training, and then broke his hand just eight games after making his 2013 debut. He still has to get over some hurdles, so it appears that 2013 is going to be a wasted season for Granderson and his fantasy owners.

Description: Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Saturday that outfielder Curtis Granderson, who broke his fifth metacarpal in his left hand on May 25, could return in early August, according to Jim Bowden of ESPN and SiriusXM.
Insight: Granderson has had some terrible luck this season, suffering a broken left forearm after being hit by a pitch during spring training, and then breaking his hand the same way just eight games after making his 2013 debut.
Derek Jeter, SS7/12/2013 3:55:00 PM
