Sparks' Parker wins second WNBA MVP award

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Sparks star Candace Parker has won her second WNBA Most Valuable Player award.

Parker was named MVP prior to Thursday night's playoff opener against Phoenix.

She averaged 17.9 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists, helping the Sparks to a 24-10 record and the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.

Despite leading the team in scoring, rebounding and blocks and being No. 2 in steals and assists, Parker said she was "shocked" to get the phone call saying she was the MVP.

"I wasn't expecting this because of the great competition and how much the WNBA has grown," she said.

Parker, 27, won her first MVP as a rookie in 2008. Along with Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie and Lauren Jackson, she is one of five WNBA players with multiple MVP awards.
