NFL Game Summary - Seattle at Minnesota

(Sunday, November 22nd)

Final Score: Minnesota 35, Seattle 9

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Brett Favre completed 22-of-25 passes for 213 yards and four scores, as the Minnesota Vikings routed the Seattle Seahawks, 35-9, at the Metrodome.

Favre played only three quarters, as the Vikings (9-1) held a 28-3 lead going into the final frame on their way to a blowout victory. Tarvaris Jackson was under center the rest of the way and completed 6-of-8 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown.

Sidney Rice had six catches for 89 yards and two TDs, while Percy Harvin, Visanthe Shiancoe and Bernard Berrian also had a scoring reception each for Minnesota, which has won three in a row.

"It doesn't have to be a 400-yard passing game to be efficient," Favre said. "And today was proof of that."

Matt Hasselbeck threw for 231 yards and was picked off once on 19-of-26 passing for the Seahawks (3-7), who have dropped four of five. Nate Burleson caught six passes for 100 yards, but the Seattle running game was nearly non- existent.

With leading rusher Julius Jones out because of a bruised lung, Justin Forsett totaled a team-high nine yards on nine carries. Forsett did run for the team's lone touchdown and caught eight passes for 80 yards.

"We tried to get some things going in the running game early and they did a heck of a job stopping that," Seattle head coach Jim Mora said. "We were counting on protecting Matt, and we struggled there as well. They've got a fearsome front; they kind of took it to us a little bit there."

After a scoreless first quarter, the Vikings' offense exploded for 21 points in the second.

They got their first touchdown nearly five minutes into the frame on a drive that started at the tail end of the opening quarter. Faced with a 1st-and-10 at the Seattle 23, Favre threw a dart over the middle to Harvin, who turned and ran the remaining yards into the end zone.

The Seahawks punted on their next touch, and Minnesota marched 70 yards for another score. The Vikings didn't face a third down on the six-play drive, thanks to a couple Seattle penalties.

One of which was a tripping penalty on safety Deon Grant following a 24-yard pass from Favre to Rice, bringing the ball to the eight-yard line. On 2nd-and- goal, Favre found Shiancoe on a slant route on the left side of the field for a TD, making it a 14-0 game with five minutes remaining in the half.

Seattle's chances worsened when Ben Obomanu fumbled on the ensuing kickoff return. The Vikings recovered at the Seahawks' 34 and again reached the end zone. Favre connected with Berrian, who cut in from the left side to separate from a defender, for a three-yard score with 1:12 on the clock and a 21-0 halftime lead.

Minnesota expanded its advantage in the third quarter with a 12-play, 89-yard drive that ate up more than 6 1/2 minutes. Favre capped it with a seven-yard scoring throw to Rice to make it a 28-point game.

Olindo Mare's 40-yard field goal with 43 seconds left in the quarter got Seattle on the board, but the Vikings responded with their fifth touchdown.

With Jackson operating the offense, Minnesota went 80 yards in 10 plays, scoring on a 34-yard pass play to Rice with 10:21 remaining in the fourth.

Forsett had a one-yard TD run later in the quarter to account for the final margin.
