NFL Game Summary - Houston at Arizona

(Sunday, October 11th)

Final Score: Arizona 28, Houston 21

Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie intercepted Matt Schaub and returned it 49 yards for the go-ahead score late in the fourth quarter, and the Arizona Cardinals used a goal-line stand in the closing minute to beat the Houston Texans, 28-21, at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Kurt Warner tallied 302 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 26-of-38 passing for the Cardinals (2-2), who were coming off their bye week. Warner notched his 50th career 300-plus-yard game, and became the fifth quarterback in NFL history to record at least 50 300-plus-yard games, joining Dan Marino, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning and Dan Fouts.

Tim Hightower had a rushing score and Larry Fitzgerald recorded two touchdowns and 79 yards on five grabs in the win. Anquan Boldin had 81 yards on seven receptions, but the Texans defense held Arizona to just 43 yards and one first down in the second half.

"I'm happy we won the game, but I'm a little displeased with how we played in the second half, especially offensively," said Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt. "I think we learned a lot about our team today as far as being able to respond to a challenge."

Schaub had 371 yards, two scores and a pick on 35-of-50 efficiency for the Texans (2-3), who have alternated wins and losses for the first five games of the season. Schaub also recorded 279 of his passing yards in the second half.

Steve Slaton led all Houston rushers with 39 yards on 13 carries and also had 59 yards on six catches. Chris Brown had a rushing score, while Andre Johnson chipped in 101 yards and two touchdowns on eight catches in the setback.

Trailing 21-7 late in the third quarter, the Texans got the ball back at their own 23. Schaub hit Owen Daniels for a 27-yard gain to close out the third. Seven plays later, Johnson hauled in an 11-yard score to close it to seven points with 12:18 left.

Following an Arizona three-and-out, Houston took over at its own 34. The team drove all the way down to the Cardinals' 30-yard line. Schaub hit Slaton for a 13-yard gain and then found Johnson at about the three. Johnson hauled in the pass and plowed his way through three defenders and into the end zone to tie it up with about seven minutes left to play.

After preventing the Cardinals from gaining a first down on the ensuing drive, the Texans took over at their own 11. Schaub moved the ball down to the Houston 36, but on the next play he was picked off by Rodgers-Cromartie, who took the ball 49 yards to pay dirt.

Andre Davis, though, returned the following kickoff 63 yards to the Arizona 40. Daniels caught a seven-yard pass on first down before the two-minute warning struck.

Following the stoppage, David Anderson then added an 11-yard grab and Daniels kept it going with a 16-yard catch, making it 1st-and-goal from the Arizona six-yard-line. A shovel pass to Slaton moved the ball to the one. Brown then ran for no gain before the Texans called a timeout with 52 ticks left.

On 3rd-and-goal, Schaub rolled out to his left and hit Joel Dreessen in the back of the end zone. He didn't get his feet down, though, and it was fourth down. The final play saw Brown go up the middle but the Cardinals stood strong and didn't let him penetrate the goal line. The play was reviewed but the call was upheld.

"We should have scored on three out of those four plays, but the bottom line is we didn't," said Texans coach Gary Kubiak. "I thought Steve would score. We caught the defense on a little shovel pass and got to the one. Obviously we have to be good enough to make a yard in the National Football League when it counts and we didn't."

Despite a false start penalty on first down, the Cards were able to run out the remainder of the clock.

The Cardinals got on the board first, as Hightower punched in a one-yard TD on Arizona's first possession.

Warner then hit Fitzgerald for a pair of scores -- for nine yards and 26 yards -- in the second quarter to balloon the difference to 21-0 at the break.

Brown had a one-yard TD to get the Texans on the board late in the third. The rushing score closed out a 64-yard, 10-play drive and made it 21-7.
