Description: Flyers backup goalie Steve Mason will start Tuesday's game against the Bruins.
Insight: Mason is 2-2 with a 2.09 GAA and .931 SV% in five games since coming to the Flyers at the trade deadline. If he plays well Tuesday, he could earn himself the start in each of Philadelphia's remaining games this season.
Description: Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen has a compression fracture in his right foot and will be sidelined for 4-5 weeks. SOURCE: Anthony SanFilippo, PhiladelphiaFlyers.com
Insight: That will end the 38-year-old's season. He'll finish with five goals and 29 points in 45 games.
Description: Flyers forward Matt Read had a goal, two assists, three SOG and a +4 Saturday night against Carolina.
Insight: The Read-Brayden Schenn-Wayne Simmonds line did some extensive damage Saturday night. Read is an inconsistent fantasy performer and has 10 goals and 23 points in 39 games. That's a pace of 48 points per 82 games; he had 47 in 79 games last season.
Description: Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov is starting Thursday against the Devils.
Insight: Bryzgalov has a 2.86 GAA and .897 SV% this season and a 3.23 GAA and .877 SV% in April, and Steve Mason just held the Rangers to two goals on 40 shots in a win on Tuesday. We question whether Bryz is actually the best option in net right now to keep the Flyers' slim playoff hopes alive.
Description: Philadelphia center Claude Giroux racked up three points (one goal, two assists) Monday in a victory over the Canadiens.
Insight: The Flyers won't be in the playoffs this year so look for Giroux to take out some of that frustration on the rest of his opponents. Philadelphia still has six games left on its schedule. With the way Giroux has been playing, that could be enough time to score six or seven more goals.
Description: Philadelphia right wing Jakub Voracek tallied three points Monday in a 7-3 win over Montreal.
Insight: He and Claude Giroux are tied for the team-lead in points with 42 a piece. Despite scoring 18 goals this season, Voracek's plus/minus rating has still been well below average (-7 in 42 games).
Description: Flyers right wing Scott Hartnell had a hat trick Monday against Montreal.
Insight: Injuries have limited Hartnell to just 26 games this season. It looks like he's making up for lost time. Make sure Hartnell is in your lineup Tuesday against the Rangers.
Description: Flyers center Danny Briere (concussion) is expected to return to action Saturday. The 35-year-old has missed 10 straight games.
Insight: Briere has been in decline for the past two years as his points total has fallen from 68 in 2010 to 13 this season with an ugly -13 rating. This could be his final few games as a member of the Flyers.
Description: Flyers center Danny Briere (concussion) will miss his 10th straight game Thursday against Ottawa but he may return Saturday against Buffalo, according to philly.com.
Insight: Flyers GM Paul Holmgren was hoping to have him back Thursday. The 35-year-old has been in decline for the past two years and is a buyout candidate this summer.
Description: Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen left Thursday's game with an lower body injury and is doubtful for Saturday's game against Winnipeg. He appeared to get hurt blocking a shot.
Insight: The 38-year-old Timonen has four goals and 24 points in 37 games this season and is certainly a nice addition to any fantasy blueline.
Description: Philadelphia forward Zac Rinaldo is out indefinitely after suffering a high left anke sprain in Wednesday's game.
Insight: Rinaldo isn't a big scorer (five points in 32 games), but did put up 86 penalty minutes for fantasy owners who need help in that one category.
Description: Flyers winger Jakub Voracek slumped at the end of March but he has started off April with two goals and three points in two games.
Insight: Voracek had an unreal February -- seven goals, 21 points in 15 games -- and carried it over with four goals in the first three games of March. However, he wrapped up March with just two goals and six points in the final 10 games of the month.
Description: Comcast Philadelphia reports that Flyers center Maxime Talbot will be sidelined indefinitely because of a broken left leg.
Insight: We're guessing Talbot has played his final game of the 2013 campaign. It's probably safe to drop Talbot (five goals, five assists in 35 games) from all fantasy leagues.
Description: Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen had a goal and three assists Sunday against the Capitals.
Insight: The 38-year-old Timonen came into Sunday with zero points over his last seven games but he finished with two goals and 10 points in 13 games this month due to a few big games.
Description: Flyers center Claude Giroux had a goal and two assists Sunday against the Capitals.
Insight: Over the last 19 games, Giroux has eight goals and 25 points. He was a -7 for March going into Saturday's game but he was a +4 over the last two days.
Description: Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Braydon Coburn is out indefinitely with a separated left shoulder.
Insight: Like most of the Flyers, Coburn has been a disappointment with one goal, four assists and an ugly -10 rating. His absence shouldn't change any fantasy lineups.
Description: Flyers center Danny Briere, sidelined by a concussion, has not been given a timetable for return.
Insight: It looks like he'll be out for the forseeable future, given the nature of concussions these days and the procedures needed to return. Much was expected from the 35-year-old and he failed in most categories with 13 points and a -13 rating. Let's call this a "lost season" and hope he returns top form next year.
Description: Philadelphia right wing Scott Hartnell broke out of a scoring drought by netting a pair of goals Thursday against the Islanders.
Insight: Hartnell tied a season-high with five shots on goal. He also spent seven minutes in the penalty box. Hartnell has had a rather disappointing so far (just four goals and three assists) but then again, he hasn't really been healthy this season (missed 16 games with a foot injury).
Description: Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros re-injured his left shoulder injury Tuesday against the Rangers and will be out indefinitely, GM Paul Holmgren said. SOURCE: Flyers.com
Insight: Meszaros missed more than a month this season with a similar injury. In the last 13 months, he has suffered a back injury that required surgery, a ruptured Achilles tendon and two shoulder injuries.
Description: The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Flyers center Danny Briere has been diagnosed with a concussion.
Insight: It looks like he'll be out for the forseeable future. The 35-year-old hasn't scored in over a month and carries a team-worst -13 rating for the season.
Description: Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov got the performance he needed Friday with 27 saves on 28 shots in a shootout win over New Jersey.
Insight: Now the key will be winning two in a row, something Bryzgalov hasn't done in March. He has followed up four of his last five wins with losses.
Description: Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn is questionable for Friday's game against New Jersey due to the flu.
Insight: Schenn missed Wednesday's game with the Devils. He is a defensive-minded blueliner who only has value in fantasy leagues that count hits and blocks. He has 103 hits and 49 blocks to go with two goals and five assists in 27 games.
Description: Philadelphia right wing Jakub Voracek notched his 13th goal and 18th assist of the season Wednesday against the Devils.
Insight: Voracek had an unreal February -- seven goals, 21 points in 15 games -- and he has continued his run in March with five goals and seven points in six games.
Description: Flyers forward Scott Hartnell scored his second goal of the season and had one assist, one SOG, eight PIM and a plus-1 Wednesday against the Devils.
Insight: Hartnell was one of just four Flyers who had a plus rating on a night when they allowed five goals, three of them at even strength and one shorthanded. Hartnell missed a large chunk of the season with a fractured foot and only has six points in 12 games.
Description: Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn is not playing Wednesday due to the flu.

Description: Flyers forward Matt Read (ribs) could return to action Thursday against the Penguins, four weeks ahead of schedule. SOURCE: CSNPhilly.com
Insight: Read left the morning skate with the other regulars on Thursday which would imply that he is playing just two weeks after tearing a rib cage muscle against the very same Penguins. Read has seven goals and 13 points through 18 games this season but he has lost his spot on Claude Giroux's line to Scott Hartnell, who returned from his own injury several days after Read went down.
Description: Philadelphia right wing Jakub Voracek had a goal and an assist with six SOG Tuesday against the Rangers.
Insight: Voracek is really taking off with Philadelphia. He had 21 points, including seven goals, in 15 games last month and he has two goals in his first two games in March.
Description: Flyers winger Harry Zolnierczyk has been suspended for four games by the NHL for his hit Saturday on Mike Lundin of the Ottawa Senators, according to NHL.com.
Insight: The hit occured midway through the first period Saturday. Lundin brought the puck over the blue line and passed it to his right, and as he went to turn left he took a shoulder to the head from Zolnierczyk that gave him a concussion. Zolnierczyk is a fourth-liner and has no fantasy value.
Description: Flyers center Claude Giroux kept his points streak alive with a goal and an assist Wednesday in a win against the Capitals.
Insight: Giroux has now recorded a point in each of his last six games with 12 total points over that span. He's just two points behind Jakub Voracek (24 points) for the team lead in scoring.
Description: Flyers winger Tye McGinn is on injured reserve and is expected to miss at least two weeks with a broken orbital bone.
Insight: McGinn has three goals and two assists in 16 games, though he hasn't posted a point in two weeks. The return of Simon Gagne from Los Angeles should fill the role at left wing and give the Flyers additional scoring opportunities.
Description: The Kings have traded forward Simon Gagne to the Flyers for a conditional fourth-round draft pick. SOURCE: NHL.com
Insight: Gagne was a first-round pick by Philadelphia in 1998 and played 10 seasons there. The winger was often a healthy scratch for Los Angeles this season so he'll have more fantasy value on the Flyers. However, fantasy owners don't need to run out and grab him immediately.
Description: Philadelphia right wing Jakub Voracek had a goal and an assist Monday against Toronto.
Insight: Voracek was able to extend his points streak to six games. He leads the Flyers with 24 points on the season and is now tied with Tampa Bay's Martin St. Louis for sixth in the NHL in scoring.
Description: Flyers forward Scott Hartnell (left foot) returned from an injury Saturday and attempted five SOG in 15 minutes of ice time.
Insight: Hartnell broke a bone in his left foot on Jan. 22 at New Jersey and ended up missing about four and a half weeks. He should quickly return to his spot on Philadelphia's top line.
Description: Flyers right wing Wayne Simmonds had his second Gordie Howe hat track (1 goal, 1 assists, 1 fight) in his last three games Saturday against the Jets.
Insight: Simmonds had the game-winner on a power play in the third period, assisted Brayden Schenn's first-period goal and drew five minutes for fighting Chris Thorburn. Simmonds is playing a larger role than last season, both offensively and as a team motivator. He has contributed seven goals, 15 points, 44 PIM and 43 SOG in 17 games.
Description: Flyers netminder Ilya Bryzgalov was pulled from Thursday's game after allowing four goals on 15 shots in 32 minutes.

Description: Flyers forward Matt Read will miss six weeks with torn rib cage muscles, according to GM Paul Holmgren. SOURCE: CSNPhilly.com
Insight: Read has seven goals and 13 points through 18 games this season and nine points in 11 games this month. He was hit hard by Penguins forward Chris Kunitz Wednesday and had to leave the game. Read has been skating on Claude Giroux's line but that spot will be filled by Scott Hartnell in a week or so.
Description: Flyers netminder Ilya Bryzgalov will start Thursday's game despite winning a grueling matchup Wednesday against the Penguins.
Insight: Bryzgalov will get an easier matchup against the Panthers but Philadelphia's energy level might be lacking after battling Pittsburgh for 60 minutes last night. Bryz shut out the Islanders on Monday but he has allowed 27 goals in his other nine starts this month.
Description: Flyers right wing Wayne Simmonds filled up the stat sheet with two goals, one assists, three SOG and five PIM Wednesday against the Penguins.
Insight: In a game littered with goals and penalties, Simmonds picked up five minutes for fighting Tanner Glass. Simmonds is giving fantasy owners his usual mid-level point production with a ton of penalty minutes.
Description: One game after tallying four assists, Flyers right wing Jakub Voracek had a hat trick, including the game-winner, Wednesday against the Penguins in a wild 6-5 game.
Insight: Voracek has had quite a month with five goals and 15 points in 11 February games.

Description: Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov recorded his first shutout of the season Monday against the Islanders.
Insight: Bryzgalov didn't need to be at his best on Monday with the seven goals Philadelphia scored for him but he was anyway, stopping all 19 of the shots he faced. The shutout was Bryzgalov's first shutout since March 13th against New Jersey. That shutout was Bryzgalov's fourth clean sheet in a five-game span.
Description: Philadelphia center Matt Read padded his season totals with a goal and two assists Monday in a win over New York.
Insight: While the rest of the Flyers have been mostly ineffective this season, Read has been on point with seven goals and six assists in 16 contests. His +3 on Monday raised his plus/minus rating to +1 for the season.
Description: Philadelphia center Danny Briere netted a pair of goals Monday in a blowout win over the Islanders.
Insight: Briere also distributed his third assist of the season. Briere produced just two goals in his first 11 games of 2013 but he's now scored three times in his last two contests.
Description: Philadelphia center Claude Giroux tormented the Islanders Monday afternoon at Nassau Coliseum.
Insight: Giroux (five goals, eight assists) tallied two goals and an assist as the Flyers captured a 7-0 win. That snaps a seven game goal-less streak for the 25-year-old. He isn't producing at the level that made him an MVP candidate a season earlier (28 goals, 65 assists in 2011-12) but Giroux is still a must-start in all fantasy formats.
Description: Flyers' defenseman Andrej Meszaros did some skating last week, but is still weeks away from returning from a left shoulder injury.
Insight: Meszaros had seven goals and 18 assists last season, but he has yet to score in four games this season. His fantasy is low end even when he is healthy.
Description: Flyers forward Scott Hartnell (left foot) did some skating last Friday, but is still about 10 days from returning, according to a philly.com report.
Insight: Hartnell broke a bone in his left foot on Jan. 22 at New Jersey and was ruled out for 4-8 weeks. Fantasy owners and his Flyers' linemates are suffering because of his absence.
Description: Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen left Friday's game against New Jersey with a lower body injury and did not return.
Insight: At the moment considerTimonen day-to-day. It's probably not a coincidence that the Devils out-scored the Flyers 2-0 in the third period with Timonen off the ice. Although 37-years-old Timonen has been durable for most of his career. He's a valuable fantasy asset with nine points in 15 games.
Description: Flyers center Sean Couturier missed Monday and Tuesday's road games due to flu-like symptoms, but is probable for Friday's game against New Jersey.
Insight: Couturier has a couple of goals and three assists in 12 games after posting 27 points in his rookie campaign. What sticks out, however, is a -3 rating versus a solid +18 last season. He'll have to tighten up at the defensive end if he wants to continue seeing enough playing time to be valuable to fantasy owners.
Description: Brian Boucher was initially named as the starting goaltender for Philadelphia Tuesday but Ilya Bryzgalov will get the start after all. SOURCE: Tim Panaccio, CSNPhilly.com

Insight: Voracek had his third goal and fifth assist of the season Saturday afternoon versus the Hurricanes. He attempted three SOG in the game and now has 28 on the season. His plus-2 Saturday brings him to minus-4 for the season.
Description: Flyers forward Brayden Schenn had a goal and two assists Saturday versus Carolina. He finished the game with a plus-3.
Insight: After a slow start to the season, Schenn has produced six points in five games this month. The one thing holding back his fantasy value is a lack of SOG (13 on the season).
Description: Flyers forward Danny Briere scored the game-winning goal in overtime Saturday versus Carolina.
Insight: Briere has two goals and four points in eight games since making his season debut, but he has taken 30 SOG, including five Saturday. Fantasy owners should hold him.
Description: Flyers right wing Wayne Simmonds has returned to the lineup after missing three games with a concussion.
Insight: Concussions can take a long time to recover from so fantasy owners should feel fortunate that Simmonds was only sidelined for about a week. The 24-year-old has produced five points in eight games this season.
Description: Flyers forward Scott Hartnell had the cast removed from his left foot Thursday and could start skating next week. SOURCE: CSNPhilly.com
Insight: Hartnell broke a bone in his left foot on Jan. 22 at New Jersey and was ruled out for 4-8 weeks. Even if he returns in the minimum time, he will still be out another two weeks.
Description: The Flyers have agreed to a one-year contract with defenseman Kimmo Timonen. SOURCE: Sam Carchidi, Philadelphia Inquirer
Insight: The deal is believed to be worth $6 million. Timonen, 38, is a solid fantasy defenseman who has five points (1 G, 4 A) with 18 SOG and 8 PIM through 10 games.
Description: Philadelphia right winger Wayne Simmonds (concussion) won't play Thursday against Florida.
Insight: Simmonds suffered a concussion last Friday night after taking a elbow to the head from Capitals defenseman John Erskine. Simmonds returned to practice Wednesday but he needs a few more days.

Description: Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 21 of 22 shots Tuesday in a 2-1 win over the high-scoring Lightning.
Insight: It's an impressive performance for Bryzgalov and Philadelphia to shut down the top goal-scoring team in the NHL. The Flyers went 4-for-4 on the penalty kill to help Bryzgalov improve to 4-5. Bryz possesses a 2.24 GAA in nine starts.
Description: Philadelphia right wing Wayne Simmonds is out with a concussion.

Description: Flyers forward Danny Briere could move to the top line as coach Peter Laviolette tries to jumpstart his struggling offense. SOURCE: Philly.com
Insight: Briere skated as the left wing with center Claude Giroux and right wing Wayne Simmonds on Thursday. Briere is coming off a 10-SOG game and the 2-5 Flyers are struggling to score. Giroux and Briere played together in Germany during the lockout.
Description: Flyers center Danny Briere didn't have a goal Tuesday against the Rangers and Henrik Lundqvist but it wasn't for a lack of effort. He attempted 10 shots on goal in his third game since returning from a wrist injury.
Insight: All those shots should tell you that Briere's wrist is feeling just fine. If he keeps getting off that many shots against lesser goaltenders, Briere will start racking up the goals.
Description: Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen scored the team's lone goal Tuesday in a 2-1 loss to New York.
Insight: Timonen is a solid fantasy defenseman but he doesn't score many goals. This was his first of the season in seven games. He had four in 76 last season.
Description: Philadelphia forward Zac Rinaldo may be activated from injured reserve for Tuesday's game against the New York Rangers. He's been dealing with a lacerated right thigh.
Insight: Rinaldo isn't a big scorer (9 points in 66 games last season), but did put up 232 penalty minutes for fantasy owners who need help in that one category.
Description: Flyers coach Peter Laviolette announced that Michael Leighton will start in net Sunday against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Ilya Bryzgalov started the first five games for Philadelphia, including Saturday against the Panthers. Leighton hasn't played in the NHL since 2010-11, when he made one start for the Flyers.
Description: Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn had his first two points with Philadelphia (1 G, 1 A) Saturday against Florida. Schenn also picked up 11 hits.
Insight: Schenn was acquired last summer in a deal for James van Riemsdyk and has been playing on Philadelphia's top defensive pairing with Kimmo Timonen. Schenn finished seventh in the NHL with 270 hits last season so he's obviously more valuable in leagues that count that statistic.
Description: Flyers forward Brayden Schenn doesn't have a goal yet in four games but he does have two assists, five penalty minutes, six shots on goal and a plus-2.
Insight: Schenn was suspended for a game and hasn't exactly lit the ice on fire with his play but at least he's doing something to warrant a roster spot in fantasy leagues while we wait for his potential breakout.
Description: Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds had a goal on his only shot Saturday against the Panthers and registered two penalty minutes with a plus-2 differential.
Insight: Simmonds had 114 PIM last season and he already has 13 in five games this year. He also had two goals, two assists, three power-play points and 16 shots on goal. He's a must-start forward.
Description: Flyers forward Matt Read had his first hat trick Saturday against the Panthers. Two of the goals were at even strength.
Insight: Read put together a 47-point season in 2011-12. There might be more top-six minutes available for him with Scott Hartnell out for 4-8 weeks but Read probably isn't a fantasy option in most leagues.
Description: Flyers center Danny Briere (wrist) will make his season debut Saturday against the Panthers. SOURCE: Sam Carchidi, Philadelphia Inquirer
Insight: Briere's wrist is still bothering him so he'll play wing Saturday to avoid taking faceoffs. Briere will skate with Jakub Voracek and Sean Couturier. The Flyers desperately need an offensive spark and Briere could fill that void. Briere was a mid-level fantasy center last season.
Description: Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov will start his fifth game of the season Saturday against the Panthers.
Insight: Bryzgalov is 1-3 but he has a solid 2.52 GAA and .910 SV%. Saturday presents a favorable matchup against a team that has scored just 1.75 goals per game while giving up the second-most shots on goal in the NHL.
Description: Right wing Mike Knuble has agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Insight: Knuble played for the Flyers from 2005 to 2009 before spending the last three seasons in Washington. Knuble witnessed a steep decline in production last season (18 points in 2011-12 compared to 40 in 2010-11) and probably won't be a player you can trust in fantasy this year.
Description: Flyers forward Brayden Schenn has served his one-game suspension for charging Devils D Anton Volchenkov in Tuesday's game and should be back in the lineup on Saturday versus Florida.
Insight: With multiple injuries up front (Daniel Briere, Scott Hartnell) it will be interesting to see what lines coach Peter Laviolette utilizes.
Description: Flyers' defenseman Andrej Meszaros is expected to miss Saturday's game against Florida with a left shoulder injury.
Insight: Meszaros had seven goals and 18 assists last season, but he has yet to score in four games this season. His fantasy value would be minimal even if he were 100 percent healthy, which he is not.
Description: Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds scored his first goal of the season in the second period Thursday against the Rangers. Simmonds also assisted a power play goal later in the period.
Insight: Simmonds was credited with a goal when the puck deflected off his skate into the net, but fantasy owners will take it. Simmonds is a solid fantasy option for goals, shots and penalty minutes.
Description: Flyers forward Scott Hartnell will miss 4-8 weeks with a broken foot. SOURCE: CBSSports.com
Insight: That's a huge loss for the Flyers and fantasy owners. Hartnell was an elite all-around contributor in goals, assists, SOG, plus/minus, and penalty minutes last season.
Description: Comcast Philly reports that Flyers left wing Scott Harnell is out indefinitely.
Insight: Hartnell injured his left foot during Tuesday's loss to New Jersey. Hartnell was tied for sixth in the NHL in goals last season (37) so obviously this is a significant loss for the winless Flyers.
Description: Flyers forward Brayden Schenn has been suspended one game for charging Devils D Anton Volchenkov in Tuesday's game.
Insight: Schenn has one assist with five penalty minutes and three shots on goal in three games for the struggling Flyers. He and Jakub Voracek are expected to play a larger role this season but right now neither player is producing enough to start in fantasy leagues.
Description: Flyers forward Scott Hartnell missed Wednesday's practice with a bruised left foot. SOURCE: CSN Philadelphia
Insight: Hartnell sustained the injury on a third-period shot from Kimmo Timonen on Tuesday. Hartnell was one of fantasy's top players last season with 67 points (30 G, 37 A), a plus-19 differential, 136 PIM, 23 PPP and 232 SOG. He has just one point in three games this season but has already spent 13 minutes in the penalty box and attempted 13 shots.
Description: Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov will get another start on Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils.
Insight: Bryzgalov has lost the first two games this season while posting a .909 SV% and 3.06 GAA. The netminder should get most of Philadelphia's starts this season but should only be used by fantasy owners when he's hot, and that isn't right now.
Description: Flyers center Danny Briere was expected to miss at least two games from a fractured wrist and in fact has missed the season opener against Pittsburgh and Sunday versus Buffalo.
Insight: Briere could still miss up to six games if he's out through Jan. 27, but we await a further update. He's a must start for fantasy owners when he returns.

Description: Flyers' defenseman Andrej Meszaros took part in a two-hour skate on Monday and is questionable for the season opener. He's coming back from left Achilles surgery.
Insight: Meszaros, who is not normally known for his offense, had seven goals and 18 assists last season. His fantasy value would be minimal even if he were 100 percent healthy, which he is not.
Description: Flyers center Danny Briere fractured his wrist playing for Eisbaren Berlin and will miss the start of the NHL season.
Insight: Briere had a modest 49 points last season in 70 games but posted 13 points in 11 playoff games. He's a top center but this puts a damper on the start of the season. He'll miss at least a couple of games.
Description: Goaltender Brian Boucher is heading back to Philadelphia. The Hurricanes traded the veteran to the Flyers along with prospect Mark Alt for minor leaguer Luke Pither. SOURCE: Bob McKenzie, TSN
Insight: Boucher was drafted by the Flyers back in 1995 and also played for the organization from 2009-11 before signing with Carolina. He only played 10 games with the Hurricanes last season but should get more playing time as a backup to Ilya Bryzgalov.
Description: Flyers' defenseman Andrej Meszaros is out indefinitely after left Achilles surgery.
Insight: Meszaros, who is not normally known for his offense, had seven goals and 18 assists last season. His fantasy value would be minimal even if he were 100 percent healthy, which he is not.
Description: Flyers center Danny Briere injured his wrist playing for Eisbaren Berlin and could miss the start of the NHL season. The original diagnosis was a 2-to-3 week recovery time.
Insight: Briere had a modest 49 points last season in 70 games but posted 13 points in 11 playoff games. He's a top center that should be drafted in his normal spot as the injury won't keep him out for too many games.
Description: The Flyers signed left winger Scott Hartnell to a six-year contract extension Monday.
Insight: Hartnell's 67 points, 19 plus/minus rating, 136 penalty minutes, 23 PPP and 232 SOG made him one of the best fantasy wingers last season. TSN ranked Hartnell second among all left wingers in our year-end top-10 list.
Description: Flyers right wing Wayne Simmonds has agreed to a new six-year, $24 million contract extension.
Insight: In his first season in Philadelphia, Simmonds netted a career-high 28 goals and 49 total points. Look for the 23-year-old to improve upon both of those totals in 2012-13.
Description: Philadelphia blueliner Andreas Lilja is expected to miss four months after undergoing surgery on his left hip last week.
Insight: Occasionally Lilja will carry an impressive plus/minus rating but his scoring touch has been nonexistent in recent seasons (zero goals, six assists in 46 games last season). He should be ignored in fantasy when he returns to the ice in December.
Description: The Flyers have traded netminder Sergei Bobrovsky to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for three draft choices.
Insight: Bobrovsky started 52 games as a rookie for Philadelphia in 2010-11, going 28-13 with a GAA of 2.59 and a .915 save percentage. He backed up Ilya Bryzgalov this past season, starting 25 games and going 14-10 with a 3.02 GAA and a save percentage of .899. He may be able to supplant Steve Mason as Columbus' starting goaltender.
Description: Flyers center Claude Giroux will be on the cover of EA Sports NHL 13 after winning a fan vote against Pekka Rinne of Nashville in the finals of a tournament.
Insight: Giroux finished the season with a career-high 93 points (28 G, 65 A) with 29 PIM, 38 PPP and 242 SOG. Luckily there hasn't been a curse associated with the NHL game series cover athlete like the one the Madden NFL franchise is known for. In fact, the last three athletes to appear on the cover -- Chicago's Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews and Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos -- registered career-high point totals the same season they were on the game.
