Seahawks WR Harvin may need hip surgery

Renton, WA (Sports Network) - Percy Harvin's start with the Seahawks may be on hold already.

Harvin has been placed on the team's physically unable to perform list because of a hip injury head coach Pete Carroll said may require surgery.

"We're going to take a real good look at it and get second opinions and all that kind of stuff, to do the right thing," Carroll said. "It's really early in camp, we got plenty of time to get this thing worked out, so we're being very careful."

Carroll said Harvin, who the Seahawks traded for in the offseason, was at "full speed just a few days ago," but has since been hobbled.

Harvin played just nine games last year because of a severely sprained ankle, finishing the campaign with 62 receptions for 677 yards and three scores while adding 96 rushing yards and a touchdown. He also returned a kickoff for a touchdown and was leading the NFL in kick return average at 35.9 yards before his injury.

The 25-year-old Florida product has 280 career catches for 3,302 yards with 20 touchdowns and has also averaged 6.4 yards on 107 carries with four scores -- all with the Vikings. He's also returned five kickoffs for touchdowns in his four-year career.
