American League Game Summary - Chicago at Texas

(Friday, April 18th)

Final Score: Texas 12, Chicago 0

Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Texas Rangers scored 12 runs on 18 hits to back Martin Perez's first career shutout.

Perez (3-0) allowed just three hits in the Rangers' 12-0 rout of the Chicago White Sox on Friday.

The left-hander struck out eight and walked one for Texas, which has won four in a row.

"He's just consistent, he's keeping the ball down," Rangers manager Ron Washington said.

Leonys Martin went 3-for-5 with four RBI and finished a double short of the cycle for the Rangers, who went 6-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Robinson Chirinos added a two-run homer.

Felipe Paulino (0-2) gave up 10 runs on 13 hits with three walks over 3 2/3 innings for the White Sox, who have dropped three straight.

"Pretty bad game for me tonight," Paulino said. "I've been bad the last couple of starts."

The Rangers' offense got going in the first inning. Elvis Andrus started things with a one-out walk and went to third on a single by Alex Rios. Prince Fielder was intentionally walked to load the bases for Kevin Kouzmanoff, whose infield single plated a run. Jim Adduci's RBI groundout made it 2-0.

Texas tacked on seven more runs in the third to blow the game open. With runners on second and third and two outs, Martin cleared the bases with a triple to right. Chirinos followed with a two-run homer.

The Rangers kept it going. After Shin-Soo Choo doubled and Andrus walked, Texas plated three more runs on Rios' single and Fielder's double.

Martin added a solo homer in the fourth and hit an RBI single in the sixth.

Kouzmanoff's run-scoring single in the seventh made it 12-0. Kouzmanoff has now hit safely in his first nine games in a Texas uniform.
