Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
If you look "opportunity" up in a dictionary, you're likely to see a picture of Washington center Andray Blatche.
Blatche was a fantasy non-entity until Wizards General Manager Ernie Grunfeld decided to blow up the nucleus of his team. Off went Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson to Dallas. Antawn Jamison was shipped off to Cleveland.
Grunfeld had sent 41.3 shots-per-game, 27.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists packing. He brought in Josh Howard and Al Thornton to take up some of the slack, but Howard promptly was injured and is out for the season.
So there were a lot of points and rebounds just waiting for someone to take advantage. That someone turned out to be Blatche. He had 36 points, 15 rebounds and four assists last night.
Blatche has been amazing since the mass exodus. For the month of February, he averaged 21.1 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.4 spg and 1.2 bpg. We are talking numbers similar to what Amare Stoudemire, Carlos Boozer, LaMarcus Aldridge or Brook Lopez produced and he could have been had for just a waiver pickup.
He should continue to produce at this level, at least for the rest of this season. Whether he continues beyond that depends on what Mr. Grunfeld does with the team in the offseason.
It's not likely that he's still available for pickup in your league, though it's interesting to note he's only owned in 76% of all leagues, so it's worth a look.
