Description: Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III came off the bench for the injured Colt McCoy and played pretty well.
Insight: Griffin was 18-for-27 with 236 yards and a touchdown, though, many Washington fans likely believe Griffin scored a rushing touchdown at the end of the first half too. Griffin dove for the pilon but fumbled out of bounds just before scoring. With the time expired, Washington did not have another opportunity to score. Although those previous numbers are alright, Griffin did also fumble three times, losing one, and take seven sacks.
Description: Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson (fibula contusion) was limited in practice, but at least he was out there.
Insight: Most expect Jackson (47-942-5) to play in Week 15, but obviously not at full strength. Andre Roberts would take his spot and Pierre Garcon would likely see more targets if Jackson decides to sit.
Description: Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson (fibula contusion) has missed all three practices this week, according to Mike Jones, Redskins beat writer for The Washington Post, and can't be considered any better than 50/50 to play Sunday.
Insight: Andre Roberts would take his spot if he can't go and Pierre Garcon would likely see more targets as well in Week 14 against the Rams.
Description: Washington tight end Jordan Reed led the team with 11 targets, nine receptions and 123 receiving yards in Week 13.
Insight: Reed is Colt McCoy's favorite target and is fantasy relevant again as long as Washington stays with McCoy as their starter. In the two games, McCoy has started, Reed had 16 catches and 163 yards.
Description: Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson turned in a great fantasy day with five catches, 84 yards and a touchdown versus the Colts.
Insight: Pierre Garcon had more targets than Jackson, but Jackson caught more of his passes for much bigger gains. Jackson's longest catch was 42 yards. He will remain a borderline WR2 for the fantasy playoffs.
Description: Washington running back Alfred Morris is suffering again without Robert Griffin III.
Insight: Morris averages just 60 yards on the ground in games where Colt McCoy or Kirk Cousins starts as opposed to over 100 yards in games where RGIII starts. Morris rushed 17 times for 67 yards versus the Colts.
Description: Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III was not pretty Sunday against San Francisco, but coach Jay Gruden has declared he'll be the starter in Week 13.
Insight: RGIII got off just 19 passes, completing 11, for an ugly 106 yards and was sacked five times and lost a fumble. That's not fantasy worthy and he hasn't been in the four full games he's played this season.
Description: Redskins running back Roy Helu saw just two touches against the 49ers.
Insight: As Alfred Morris has improved over the past month, Helu's numbers have headed south. He's been given zero carries the past two games and has a total of eight receptions for 66 yards and a score.
Description: Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III was not pretty Sunday against San Francisco.
Insight: RGIII got off just 19 passes, completing 11, for an ugly 106 yards and was sacked five times and lost a fumble. That's not fantasy worthy and he hasn't been in the four full games he's played this season.
Description: Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson caught four passes for 35 yards.
Insight: Jackson just missed a big play a couple times with the pass just out of his reach. He is the epitome of a boom-or-bust player, who will have these kind of weeks from time-to-time. The boom, however, is worth plugging him in the lineup every week.
Description: Washington coach Jay Gruden may go back to Colt McCoy.
Insight: We kid, but Robert Griffin III threw for two interceptions and was sacked six times. He completed 23-for-32 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown as well. We hope fantasy owners championship aspirations are not counting on RGIII.
Description: Washington receiver Pierre Garcon continues to be a fantasy disappointment this season.
Insight: Garcon had just three catches for 15 yards in Robert Griffin III's return in Week 9 while DeSean Jackson racked up 120 yards. Garcon has just 458 receiving yards and three touchdowns this season.
Description: Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III (ankle) will start Sunday against Minnesota barring any setbacks, according to coach Jay Gruden.
Insight: Griffin practiced in full again on Thursday, so at this point he's a go. He may not be 100 percent as fantasy owners who don't want to gamble should wait a week and see whether he gets through the game and how he performs.
Description: Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III (ankle) will start Sunday against Minnesota, according to NBC Washington's Dianna Marie Russini.
Insight: Griffin practiced in full on Wednesday, so we feel that Russini's report is correct. However, owners need to wait until coach Jay Gruden gives official word, which should come on either Thursday or Friday.
Description: Redskins coach Jay Gruden continued to say on Tuesday that Robert Griffin III is close to returning
Insight: Gruden has said for weeks that Griffin might play probably to give opponents the feeling that they need to prepare for him. We believe Gruden when he says Griffin is close, but we expect him to return in Week 11 after the Redskins Week 10 bye. That just makes too much sense.
Description: Redskins running back Alfred Morris is probable for Monday night against the Cowboys.
Insight: Morris played through an ankle issue last Sunday, but he didn't miss any practice time this week. Without Robert Griffin III, however, defenses have been able to concentrate on just stopping him rather the read-option as well. Morris is averaging just 3.45 yards per carry this season.
Description: Redskins coach Jay Gruden indicated Robert Griffin III will return for Week 11 against the Buccaneers.
Insight: There is still a small chance Griffin returns for Week 9 at Minnesota, but the wise choice for Gruden would be to hold his quarterback out through the Week 10 bye. Colt McCoy is expected to start in Week 8 against the Cowboys.
Description: Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III (ankle) took the first rep amongst the signal-callers during Wednesday's practice. UPDATE: According to Marie Russini of NBC Washington, there is "NO chance" Griffin plays Monday night against Dallas.
Insight: This hardly means that he is at 100 percent, which coach Jay Gruden said he would have to be at, if Griffin wants to start on Monday night. We expect Colt McCoy to get the nod for Week 8, with Griffin having a chance to get back under center for Week 9.
Description: Redskins quarterback Colt McCoy is expected to start during Week 8 against Dallas.
Insight: Coach Jay Gruden made the announcement on Monday, and with Robert Griffin III not expected back just yet, McCoy has passed Kirk Cousins on the depth chart. McCoy is no better than a QB2 for next Monday's tilt against the Cowboys.
Description: Redskins tight end Jordan Reed had five catches for 54 yards on Sunday versus the Titans.
Insight: Reed had a nice day as he tied Pierre Garcon for the team lead with six targets, but Niles Paul had the big play out of the tight ends. Paul had a 50-yard catch and outgained Reed in the passing game, 58 to 54, even though Reed had three more catches.
Description: Redskins receiver Pierre Garcon caught a 70-yard touchdown against the Titans in Week 7.
Insight: Garcon finished with five catches and 87 yards, but a vast majority of the yards came on the big touchdown grab. Garcon remains a high-upside WR2 no matter who is playing quarterback for the Redskins.
Description: Redskins backup quarterback Colt McCoy played the second half against the Redskins and completed 11-of-12 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown.
Insight: More importantly, he won the game. That may not be important for fantasy owners, but we are guessing no one started McCoy anyway. McCoy could be in line to take the starting role until Robert Griffin III returns.
Description: Redskins running back Alfred Morris had 18 carries for 54 yards against the Titans on Sunday.
Insight: It was the second worst rushing average, 3.0, Morris has posted this season with the other coming against the Seahawks. He did suffer an ankle injury in the second quarter and played through it, so perhaps that effected Morris' performance.
Description: Journeyman Colt McCoy, the backup quarterback in Washington, started the second half against the Titans.
Insight: Starter Kirk Cousins was 10-for-16 for 139 yards for zero touchdowns and Washington was down at the half 10-6. McCoy started the second half by hitting Pierre Garcon for a 70-yard score so this might get interesting for next weekend.
Description: Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins was pulled at halftime of Week 7 versus Tennessee.
Insight: Cousins was 10-for-16 for 139 yards for zero touchdowns and Washington was down at the half 10-6. Colt McCoy started the second half by hitting Pierre Garcon for a 70-yard score so this might get interesting.
Description: Redskins coach Jay Gruden confirmed Robert Griffin III got in another limited practice Thursday.
Insight: Griffin isn't coming back this week, but he might actually have a small chance for Week 8 (at DAL) or Week 9 (at MIN) instead of the current thought of timeline which is Week 11 after the team's bye.
Description: Redskins coach Jay Gruden confirmed Robert Griffin III will be the team's starting quarterback once he is cleared to play according to The Washington Post.
Insight: It is still, however, unclear when Griffin will be able to return. Gruden said it could be one week or five weeks. Washington has lost four straight games with Kirk Cousins under center, so even though he might be able to move the ball better than RGIII, the fact Cousins is not winning games makes this decision relatively easy for Gruden.
Description: Journeyman Colt McCoy, the backup quarterback in Washington, is not a starting option, according to a Washington Post report.
Insight: The Redskins aren't winning and coach Jay Gruden was asked about a QB change. Fortunately for Kirk Cousins' fantasy owners a change to McCoy isn't in the cards. But when RGIII is ready, Cousins will return to the bench.
Description: Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins will continue to start, according to coach Jay Gruden.
Insight: Cousins is throwing for a lot of yards and posting good fantasy numbers, he's just not winning football games so there has been talk around Washington about other options. Fortunately, Colt McCoy isn't one of them and Cousins should continue to start until RGIII is ready to play again.
Description: Redskins tight end Jordan Reed will see a "decent amount" of snaps if he is active against the Cardinals according to ESPN.
Insight: That's great news, if he is indeed active. Will he be? All signs point to yes, but the Redskins play at 4:25 ET on Sunday, so it will take a small leap of faith to roll with Reed. The Cardinals do give up the sixth most fantasy points in the league. So he has that going for him ... which is nice. Even if he plays, Reed is a boom-or-bust this week.
Description: Redskins tight end Niles Paul (concussion) is active for Monday night's game against the Seahawks.
Insight: Paul is the starter as Jordan Reed is inactive for the fourth straight game. Seattle actually struggles against tight ends, so if there is any player a fantasy owner wants starting against the Seahawks on Monday, it would be Paul.
Description: Redskins tight end Jordan Reed is inactive for Monday night's game against the Seahawks.
Insight: Reed has not played since the season opener. He practiced a little this week, so he is a strong candidate to return in Week 6. Niles Paul, who suffered a concussion last Thursday, will start in Reed's place.
Description: Redskins tight end Jordan Reed did not practice on Saturday due to his hamstring injury, and he is questionable for Monday night's game against the Seahawks according to CSN Washington.
Insight: Reed was limited in Thursday's and Friday's practices, so this basically means the hamstring has gotten worse. Due to the fact Reed is playing on Monday night, unless Niles Paul is available in your league, you must look elsewhere for a tight end starter in Week 5.
Description: Washington tight end Jordan Reed (hamstring) returns to practice Thursday.
Insight: It was only a limited session, but Reed will have a chance to play on Monday night against the Seahawks. He should resume being Washington's top tight end, but if owners have another option, it would be smart to use it this week, with the Redskins playing on Monday night, combined with the fact Niles Paul could still steal snaps.
Description: Redskins tight end Niles Paul (concussion) returned to practice on Thursday.
Insight: He got in a limited session, which puts him on track to play Monday against Seattle. Jordan Reed also practiced in limited fashion, so if both suit up, neither are recommended plays, until we see how Washington will utilize their tight ends.
Description: Redskins tight end Niles Paul leaves Thursday's game with possible concussion.
Insight: He was leveled over the middle by Quintin Demps, which resulted in an illegal hit. Paul was on the ground for awhile before being helped to the Redskins' locker room by trainers. He is being evaluated now, but has already been declared out.
Description: Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson is expected to play on Thursday against the Giants according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Insight: Jackson played with a sprained shoulder on Sunday against his former team and caught five passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. He did not suffer any setbacks and is ready to go even in a short week. We like him as a WR2 with all the byes, and he is a strong FLEX play against the Giants' 22nd ranked pass defense.
Description: Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson had a 81-yard touchdown catch against his former team on Sunday.
Insight: It was obvious, like everyone thought, that Jackson was pumped up to play in Philadelphia. Jackson caught five passes for 117 yards total, but a majority of his damage came on the 81-yard TD grab.
Description: Redskins receiver Pierre Garcon caught 11 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown against the Eagles on Sunday.
Insight: Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins targeted Garcon an incredible 16 times. After just one catch last week, Garcon now has 22 receptions on the year and the touchdown was his first of the season.
Description: Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins threw for an incredible 427 yards and three touchdowns in a loss against the Eagles on Sunday.
Insight: Cousins completed 30-of-48 passes and did throw an interception in addition to the three touchdowns. Cousins is proving to be a much better fantasy option than Robert Griffin III. Against the right matchup, Cousins is a clear QB1.
Description: The return for Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is six to eight weeks according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Insight: Expect Griffin to be out until at least Week 10, at which point the team can decide wheather to return to Griffin or stick with Kirk Cousins. Unless you have an IR spot, it's not worth keeping Griffin in 10 and 12-team formats.
Description: Washington tight end Jordan Reed (hamstring) will not play in Week 3.
Insight: Reed's absence will be covered by two tight ends. Logan Paulsen will be the primary blocker and Niles Paul will be the receiver. Paul has been a viable fantasy option with 86 yards in Week 1 and 99 yards and a score against jacksonville last Sunday.
Description: Washington wide receiver Andre Roberts had to step up his game after DeSean Jackson went down with a shoulder injury.
Insight: Roberts caught four of his five targets for 57 yards. If Jackson is forced to miss time, Roberts becomes a very reliable fantasy option. However, assuming Jackson is back for Week 3, Roberts will be a valuable asset to the Skins, but not so much for fantasy owners.
Description: Redskins tight end Niles Paul filled in admirably for the injured Jordan Reed.
Insight: He came out of nowhere to haul in eight receptions, 99 yards, and a touchdown. With Reed still on the shelf, Paul looks like a solid fill-in option. Paul is a TE2 heading into Week 3 against the Eagles.
Description: Redskins receiver Pierre Garcon was unsually quiet in the team's Week 2 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Insight: Garcon managed only one reception on Sunday, after hauling in 10 passes in Week 1. With Washington pulling away early, he just simply was not as involved as usual, with only four targets. Look for Garcon to get back on track in Philadelphia, during Week 3. Consider him a solid WR2.
Description: Redskins Quarterback Kirk Cousins was thrusted into action on Sunday, and made the most of his opportunity.
Insight: The quarterback controversy is offically in full force in Washington, as Cousins led the Skins to a 41-10 victory. He was a major reason why they won by so much, completing 22/33 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns. With Robert Griffin III out 4-5 weeks with a bad ankle, Cousins will have the opportunity to not only fill in, but also take hold of the QB postion, atop the depth chart. Cousins will be a borderline QB1 heading into Week 3 at Philadelphia. If he is on your waiver wire, and you need help at QB, he's your guy.
Description: Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said Monday that tight end Jordan Reed (hamstring) could be sidelined "some time."
Insight: Gruden also called the injury "mild" just to drive Reed's fantasy owners crazy. Reed is likely week-to-week, and fantasy owners shouldn't expect him to be ready for Week 2. Reed is a TE1 in 10-12 team leagues but his injury history is starting to become a concern.
Description: Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III completed 6-of-9 passes for 112 yards and one interception against Cleveland on Monday night. He also rushed for 24 yards on four carries.
Insight: Griffin's best throw was a deep ball to Andre Roberts, which gained 49 yards. He had a bad interception when the Redskins were driving in the first quarter. On the play, pass rushers flushed Griffin from the pocket, and he failed to set his feet. The quarterback often improvised when pressured and even though head coach Jay Gruden did not draw up any designed runs for his quarterback, Griffin still had four carries. Fantasy owners should be excited about Griffin's upside but still concerned with the amount of hits Griffin is taking when carrying the ball. The Washington Post reports Griffin suffered a minor thigh bruise on Monday night.
Description: Redskins receiver Pierre Garcon (hamstring) returned to practice Saturday, according to the Washington Post.
Insight: Garcon missed the first preseason game, but he said if it was a regular season game he would have played. The 27-year-old had 113 catches and 1,346 yards last season, but it took 184 targets to reach those numbers and he had just five touchdowns. He could see 40 fewer targets this season after the team acquired DeSean Jackson and Andre Roberts in the offseason.
Description: ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss says that Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III "didn't look like the best quarterback on his own team" during Washington's joint practices with the New England Patriots this past week.
Insight: Reiss said that Kirk Cousins was better than Griffin in his mechanics, decision-making and running the offense. Griffin has top-five fantasy QB upside, but he's going ninth among quarterbacks in mock drafts because he comes with risks.
Description: ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss and the Boston Globe's Ben Volin have both sung Redskins tight end Jordan Reed's praises after Washington's joint practices with the New England Patriots this week.
Insight: Volin said Reed "looks like a star" and "was open all practice," while Reiss said Reed was "one of the best offensive players on the field." The only reason Reed won't return TE1 numbers this season is if he deals with concussions again.
Description: Running against third stringers in the fourth quarter, rookie Lache Seastrunk showed speed and moves in rushing for 63 yards on 12 carries.
Insight: His performance may have earned him a shot to play earlier in the next preseason game to see if he can do the same thing against better defenders. He'll be trying to earn one of the final spots in the Washington backfield which means barring multiple injuries he won't have any fantasy value this season.
Description: Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson (ankle) is iffy for Thursday's preseason opener, according to the Washington Post.
Insight: Coach Jay Gruden said Jackson got "cleated" during Wednesday's walkthrough and rolled an ankle. Pierre Garcon is dealing with a hamstring injury, so Washington may be without both of its top receivers Thursday.
Description: Redskins receiver Pierre Garcon will miss the team's preseason opener Thursday against the Patriots due to a minor hamstring injury. SOURCE: csnwashington.com
Insight: Garcon said if it was a regular season game he would play. The 27-year-old had 113 catches and 1,346 yards last season, but it took 184 targets to reach those numbers and he had just five touchdowns. He could see 40 fewer targets this season after the team acquired DeSean Jackson and Andre Roberts in the offseason.
Description: Redskins coach Jay Gruden said running back Alfred Morris has "caught the ball very well" during training camp.
Insight: Morris caught just 20 passes for 155 yards combined in his first two seasons while carrying 611 yards for 2,888 yards and 20 TDs. Gruden likes to throw to his running backs so displaying better hands will help Morris stay on the field more often. He's in the RB1 conversation.
Description: Robert Griffin III may not be utilizing the "read-option" much this season as coach Jay Gruden has never been a fan of this offensive strategy.
Insight: Griffin will still use his feet to get outside on rollouts and should have the green light to take off whenever he needs to, but we're not expecting to see much "read-option" football in D.C. Fantasy owners will want to see this offense in action to determine what effect it will have on RGIII's value, but with his receiving weapons the QB should be a top-six fantasy quarterback in 2014.
Description: Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III called tight end Jordan Reed "one of the most talented tight ends in the league."
Insight: Reed certainly is talented, but comes with a couple of caution flags. He's a huge concussion risk and the addition of wideout DeSean Jackson will steal targets. Jackson's speed could also give the tight end more room to work.
Description: According to USA Today's Jim Corbett, Robert Griffin III "looks like a different quarterback" without his knee brace.
Insight: Griffin wasn't up to snuff last season but that's understandable after he rushed back from ACL surgery. Now that Griffin is finally healthy, he should be a top-ten quarterback. Washington receivers Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson will also benefit from Griffin's resurgence.
Description: Free agent wide receiver DeSean Jackson has agreed to a multi-year deal with the Washington Redskins.
Insight: While this is certainly a boon to the Washington offense, Jackson will have to work hard to get the same number of targets he saw in Philadelphia (126) as incumbent No. 1 Pierre Garcon led the league in that department with 182. They also have an up-and-coming TE in Jordan Reed.
Description: According to John Keim of espn.com, new Redskins coach Jay Gruden says he'd like RB Alfred Morris to be more of a pass catching threat but that he doesn't have "natural hands."
Insight: Gruden said he hopes Morris can get 20-25 catches. He has just 20 in two NFL seasons compared to 611 carries for 2,888 rushing yards (4.7 ypc) and 20 TDs. It's doubtful Gruden will give Morris as many carries as the Shanahans did.
Description: Washington has retained wide receiver Santana Moss on a one-year deal. SOURCE: NBC's Pro Football Talk
Insight: Moss (42 catches, 452 yards, 2 TD in 2013) is nearing the end of his career and can no longer be relied on for consistent fantasy production. The Andre Roberts signing only pushes him further down on the team's depth chart.
Description: Andre Roberts is headed to Washington on a four-year, $16 million deal. SOURCE: Mike Jones, Washington Post
Insight: Today was a big day for the team's receiving corps as Washington also re-signed Santana Moss. Roberts (471 yards, 2 TD in 2013) should be the starter opposite Pierre Garcon with Moss functioning as a situational receiver when the Redskins line up three or four wide.
Description: The Redskins slapped linebacker Brian Orakpo with the franchise tag on Monday. SOURCE: Washington Post
Insight: He was one of six players to receive the tag including fellow Pro Bowlers Jimmy Graham and Greg Hardy. Orakpo (60 tackles, ten sacks in 2013) is hoping to sign a contract extension with Washington sometime this offseason.
Description: Tight end Fred Davis has been suspended indefinitely without pay for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, the Redskins confirmed.
Insight: The suspension was reported as six games back in January, but it's actually much worse. Davis is about to become a free agent and will probably have trouble finding work. This is his second drug-related suspension.
Description: The Redskins and cornerback DeAngelo Hall have agreed to a four-year extension. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL Network
Insight: The deal is worth $17 million. It's clear Hall isn't the same player he was when he earned consecutive Pro Bowl nods in 2005-06. The Redskins will probably regret this contract in a few years.
Description: Despite new offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's affinity for Kirk Cousins, it seems unlikely that Cleveland would pursue a trade for the Redskins QB. SOURCE: Cleveland Plain Dealer
Insight: The feeling within the organization is that Brian Hoyer gives the team the best chance to win. Assuming Robert Griffin III returns to his pre-injury self in 2014, Cousins shouldn't be owned in any fantasy leagues.
Description: With new Redskins head coach Jay Gruden all in on Robert Griffin III, backup quarterback Kirk Cousins has acknowledged that he's open to being traded. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Cousins could solve Cleveland's quarterback problem, though the Browns will probably have a chance to take a quarterback in the draft with the No. 4 overall pick. Cousins owns a mediocre 68.8 quarterback rating in eight career games. Even if he lands a starting job, Cousins will only be worth owning in two quarterback formats.
Description: Tight end Fred Davis has been suspended six games for violating the league's substance abuse policy. SOURCE: Jason La Canfora, CBS Sports
Insight: It's Davis' second drug-related suspension. This news won't help him find a job in free agency. With Jordan Reed emerging as Washington's top tight end, a reunion with the Redskins seems unlikely.
Description: New Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said Robert Griffin III will be his starting quarterback next season. SOURCE: NBC's Pro Football Talk
Insight: Gruden said "there will be no competition." With Griffin's job safe, it's possible that Washington will trade backup Kirk Cousins later this offseason. Cousins finished the 2013 season with 4 TD, 7 INT and a 58.3 quarteback rating in five games.
