Los Angeles Lakers Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Kobe Bryant, G11/22/2014 4:42:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant did not practice on Saturday.
Insight: There shouldn't really be a cause for concern. Coach Byron Scott said Bryant needed the rest for what he called "heavy legs." We agree after seeing him miss his first 12 shots on Friday versus the Mavericks. Bryant should be ready to go on Sunday.
Kobe Bryant, G11/22/2014 9:12:00 AM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant shot just 27 percent on Friday as he continues to chuck up shots.
Insight: Bryant is averaging 25.5 shot attempts per game in November and 24.0 for the season. He obviously feels the pressure to score a lot due to the lack of talent on the Lakers. That means big numbers most nights, but occasionally he is going to be off and his percentage will suffer a lot.
Kobe Bryant, G11/20/2014 9:13:00 AM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant posted big numbers, 29 points, five rebounds, seven assists, but missed 18 of 28 shots from the field.
Insight: Bryant is shooting just 38.6 percent from the field this season. We expected a bit of a slow start, but not this poor. However, if you can withstand the early bad shooting, which will surely come around, he's posting solid numbers across the board.
Nick Young, G/F11/19/2014 10:24:00 AM
Description: Lakers guard Nick Young played well in his first game-action of the season.
Insight: He came off the bench and played 28 minutes, going 6-of-10 from the field and 3-of-5 from the line for 17 points, five rebounds, two 3-pointers, and one steal. Young will have a chance to chuck all season long.
Jeremy Lin, G11/18/2014 9:57:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Jeremy Lin was very efficient in Tuesday's victory against the Hawks.
Insight: He was 6-of-7 from the field and 2-of-3 from the line for 15 points. Lin also chipped in 10 assists, three rebounds, two steals, and three turnovers. Owners should not expect better lines than this throughout the season.
Carlos Boozer, F11/18/2014 9:55:00 PM
Description: Lakers forward Carlos Boozer played well in Tuesday's win versus Atlanta.
Insight: He was 10-of-14 from the floor for 20 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists. Owners should be pleased with this stat line.
Kobe Bryant, G11/18/2014 9:53:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant actually shot well from the field in Tuesday's win against the Hawks.
Insight: He was 10-of-18 from the field and 5-of-5 from the line for 28 points. Bryant also had four rebounds, three assists, three 3-pointers, one steal, and three turnovers.
Nick Young, G/F11/18/2014 11:58:00 AM
Description: Lakers guard Nick Young is expected to return to action Tuesday against Atlanta.
Insight: Young can score, but he doesn't shoot for a high percentage or add much in other fantasy categories.
Kobe Bryant, G11/16/2014 11:02:00 AM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant is listed as questionable due to illness, but we expect him to play.
Insight: Kobe is coming off a horrible game and the illness probably caused some of it. He was 1-of-14 from the field (7-of-9 from the line) in 36 minutes of action, for only nine points. He's a warrior and should be out there on Sunday.
Kobe Bryant, G11/15/2014 9:24:00 AM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant had one of the worst games of his career Friday night.
Insight: He was 1-of-14 from the field (7-of-9 from the line) in 36 minutes of action, for only nine points. Bryant did have six assists, four rebounds, two blocks, one steal, and four turnovers. He will continue to struggle from the floor, but will definitely produce much better than Friday night, as he looks completely healthy.
Carlos Boozer, F11/15/2014 9:21:00 AM
Description: Lakers forward Carlos Boozer scored a team-high 19 points in Friday's loss to San Antonio.
Insight: He played well and was 8-of-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line, while also contributing eight rebounds, one assist, two steals, and two turnovers. Boozer is averaging 13.7 ppg and 6.1 rpg, while shooting 51 percent from the floor this season.
Ronnie Price, G11/14/2014 10:44:00 AM
Description: Lakers backup guard Ronnie Price will miss Friday's game against San Antonio due to a one-game suspension for a flagrant foul against Austin Rivers during Wednesday's game.
Insight: Jeremy Lin should see the vast majority of point guard minutes, but Price gets the backup work. It's more minutes for Lin Friday which should help his numbers.
Kobe Bryant, G11/12/2014 10:17:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant continued his poor shooting, but scored 33 points in Wednesday's loss to New Orleans.
Insight: He was 10-of-28 from the field and 8-of-8 from the line, including 5-of-11 from deep. Bryant also had five assists, four rebounds, one steal, and one turnover. It seems he will continue to shoot poorly from the field, but nevertheless it is fun for owners to have him on fantasy teams.
Kobe Bryant, G11/11/2014 10:29:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant took 26 shots and scored 28 points against the Grizzles on Tuesday.
Insight: Despite Bryant's solid play, the Lakers continue to lose. Los Angeles is 1-5 this season. Not that fantasy owners care because Bryant had seven rebounds, six assists and four steals to go with his 26 shots.
Kobe Bryant, G11/5/2014 10:44:00 AM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant is clearly healthy early on this season.
Insight: He had a ridiculous 37 shot attempts, but made only 14. Bryant had 39 points, nine rebounds, three 3-pointers, one asisst, one steal, one block, three turnovers in 44 minutes of action. Owners should enjoy the ride.
Ryan Kelly, F11/4/2014 1:21:00 PM
Description: Lakers power forward Ryan Kelly practiced Monday and is likely to return to the court Tuesday versus Phoenix.
Insight: Kelly isn't going to see enough playing time to be fantasy worthy even with the season-ending injury to Julius Randle.
Jordan Hill, PF11/2/2014 11:24:00 AM
Description: Lakers PF/C Jordan Hill scored 23 points with five rebounds, four assists and three blocks on Saturday.
Insight: Hill logged 34 minutes and played at least 30 minutes for a second straight game. With no Julius Randle, Hill will get a much bigger opportunity. Hill is a must-own player.
Kobe Bryant, G11/2/2014 10:49:00 AM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant scored 28 points, but it wasn't enough as Los Angeles lost, 1127-104, against Golden State.
Insight: Bryant played 35 minutes on Friday and then 36 minutes on Saturday, so that is an excellent sign for Bryant coming off the injury from last season. Bryant also had six rebounds but hurt fantasy owners with seven turnovers.
Jordan Hill, PF11/1/2014 11:39:00 AM
Description: Lakers PF/C Jordan Hill led the team in scoring in Friday's loss to the Clippers.
Insight: He shot 10-of-15 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line, for his 23 points. Hill also contributed five rebounds and one block, and will have a nice opportunity to produce this season, with the Lakers' lack of depth.
Kobe Bryant, G11/1/2014 11:37:00 AM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant scored 21 points on Friday.
Insight: He was 6-of-15 from the field and 8-of-11 from the line, with seven assists, four rebounds, two steals, one 3-pointer, and three turnovers. Bryant looks fantastic in the season's early-going.
Jeremy Lin, G11/1/2014 11:35:00 AM
Description: Lakers guard Jeremy Lin played well in Friday's lost to the Clippers.
Insight: He had 17 points, nine assists, and three 3-pointer, along with four turnovers. Lin will have a nice opportunity to produce fantasy stats all season long.
Ed Davis, FHot10/31/2014 1:55:00 PM
Description: Lakers forward Ed Davis has put up two strong performances and should continue to see plenty of playing time.
Insight: despite not starting, Davis is averaging 12.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg and 2.0 blocks per game. It's his defense that will keep him on the court over a veteran like Carlos Boozer and he's a viable fantasy options after the Julius Randle injury.
Kobe Bryant, G10/31/2014 1:52:00 PM
Description: One thing fantasy owners should never do is underextimate Lakers guard Kobe Bryant.
Insight: Bryant's return to the court after a "lost" season started slowly in Game 1, but he posted 31 points against Phoenix. Knocking the rust off was to be expected, but nobody has more will to succeed than Bryant.
Julius Randle, F10/29/2014 4:01:00 PM
Description: Lakers forward Julius Randle will miss the rest of the season according to the Los Angeles Times.
Insight: The Lakers have already lost Steve Nash and Randle for the season after just one game played. Randle had surgery on his broke tibia and hopes to return for the summer league.
Julius Randle, F10/29/2014 10:08:00 AM
Description: Doctors have diagnosed lakers forward Julius Randle with a broken right tibia. Randle will undergo further evaluations on Wednesday.
Insight: The Lakers heard a pop when Randle went down to the floor late in Tuesday's season opener. It's such a shame. Randle was one of the top rookies drafted in fantasy this season, and he played just one game in his rookie campaign. The Lakers will be even more reliant on Carlos Boozer and Jordan Hill.
Kobe Bryant, G10/29/2014 10:02:00 AM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant led the team with 19 points on opening night.
Insight: Bryant's return was a little disappointing to owners who bought into coach Byron Scott's claim that Bryant would play 30-to-40 minutes. The guard only played 29 minutes versus the Rockets. That, however, could have been due to the blowout on the scoreboard.
Carlos Boozer, F10/29/2014 9:45:00 AM
Description: Lakers forward Carlos Boozer scored 17 points and added seven rebounds in the season opener.
Insight: Boozer shot 7-for-13 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. He also had seven rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Julius Randle, F10/29/2014 1:50:00 AM
Description: Lakers forward Julius Randle's debut was cut short when he suffered what appeared to be a broken leg with just under seven minutes remaining in the game.
Insight: Randle was driving to the hoop when he was injured and doctors placed his leg in an aircast. He was the seventh pick in last June's draft.
Kobe Bryant, G10/28/2014 3:52:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant will play 30-40 minutes Tuesday night, according to coach Byron Scott.
Insight: That's all fantasy owners need to hear to know Kobe will be an elite fantasy option after missing 76 games last season.
Ronnie Price, G10/28/2014 3:48:00 PM
Description: Lakers backup guard Ronnie Price has been upgraded to probable for Tuesday's game.
Insight: Jeremy Lin should see the vast majority of point guard minutes, but Price will get the backup work.
Xavier Henry, G/F10/28/2014 3:46:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles G/F Xavier Henry (right knee surgery/strained back) didn't play at all this preseason, but could play opening night.
Insight: He certainly wouldn't see big minutes or post significant fantasy statistics, but as thin as the Lakers are he can help.
Julius Randle, F10/25/2014 5:09:00 PM
Description: Lakers forward Julius Randle should not be considered anymore than a late-round pick.
Insight: He is starting the season as the backup power forward, and owners should expect inconsistent play early on. Leaving Randle undrafted is probably a smart move.
Nick Young, G/F10/25/2014 5:01:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Nick Young will still be a valuable fantasy player once he returns from his thumb injury.
Insight: He is probably still out the next 5-to-7 weeks, but will see time at small forward and shooting guard upon his return. Owners should target him towards the end of drafts, only if the leagues' rosters are updated weekly. Otherwise, leave Young undrafted, and look to acquire him via waivers, as the season moves on.
Kobe Bryant, G10/25/2014 4:58:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant will have a great opportunity to bounce back this season.
Insight: After playing in only six games last season, Bryant looks to be as healthy as he has been in a long time. Look for him to get back to close to his career-averages, and owners should not be afraid to select him in the second round.
Wesley Johnson, G/F10/25/2014 4:55:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles G/F Wesley Johnson is coming off a career-season.
Insight: He averaged 9.1 points per game, 4.4 rebounds per game, 1.1 steals per game, 1.0 blocks per game, along with shooting .425 from the field and 79 percent from the line. These numbers show that Johnson can fill a stat sheet, and as a result be picked towards the end of drafts.
Jordan Hill, PF10/25/2014 4:52:00 PM
Description: Lakers have re-signed PF/C Jordan Hill will have a chance for a career-season in 2014-15.
Insight: With the lack of depth behind him, Hill will be the starting center for Los Angeles. He should be able average close to a double-double with points and rebounds, and combined with around a block per game plus a field goal percentage of over 50 percent, Hill should be targeted around the 11th round.
Carlos Boozer, F10/25/2014 4:49:00 PM
Description: Lakers forward Carlos Boozer should have some nice value heading into the 2014-15 fantasy basketball season.
Insight: With the Lakers' roster nothing to cry home about, Boozer's current ADP in the 12th round is very nice value. He should be able to average around 15.0 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game. Owners should be afraid to draft this guy, as he could be a potential steal.
Jeremy Lin, G10/25/2014 4:18:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Jeremy Lin is one of the biggest sleepers in fantasy drafts this season.
Insight: If you are waiting for the last minute and still haven't drafted, keep an eye on Jeremy Lin. He scored 19 points and had one rebound, seven assists, one steal and two 3-pointers off the bench in a preseason game against the Kings. Although Sacramento is not exactly the cream of the Western Conference, Lin figures to be a huge factor in the Lakers offense this season. He would be a great No. 2 fantasy point guard.
Steve Nash, G10/24/2014 10:02:00 AM
Description: Lakers guard Steve Nash (nerve damage) will miss the 2014-15 regular season.
Insight: That's likely it for the two-time MVP who hasn't been fantasy worthy for a couple of seasons.
Nick Young, G/F10/3/2014 10:23:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Nick Young has a torn ligament in his right thumb.
Insight: He is expected to miss eight weeks with the injury, making him on pace to return a month into the season. Young will be the Lakers' sixth man, and will hold some late-round value in fantasy leagues.
Kobe Bryant, G9/29/2014 10:22:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant expects to play in the team's preseason opener on Oct. 6 after recovering from a fractured lateral tibial plateau in his left knee according to Yahoo Sports.
Insight: Los Angeles still expects Bryant to average 23 points per game. Head coach Bryon Scott said he expects Bryant to be healthy all 82 games, and if that happens, Bryant could be a fantasy steal based on where he will be picked this year.
Julius Randle, F8/21/2014 12:12:00 PM
Description: Lakers coach Byron Scott said forward Julius Randle will "get plenty of chances to play a lot of minutes" according to NBA.com
Insight: Los Angeles added Carlos Boozer in free agency, so there is some doubt of whether Scott's statement will be true right away, but Randle looked great in Las Vegas. He could be a solid pick up late in the draft or in free agency as long as you're patient.
Carlos Boozer, F7/18/2014 5:29:00 PM
Description: Carlos Boozer will play for the Los Angeles Lakers next season.
Insight: Boozer was cut from the Chicago Bulls via the amnesty provision earlier this week and Los Angeles won a blind auction to claim him. Boozer started 76 games last season and played 28.2 minutes per game, but he'll have to battle Julius Randle, Jordan Hill and Ed Davis for playing time in 2014-15.
Jordan Hill, PF 7/11/2014 8:00:00 PM
Description: The Lakers have re-signed PF/C Jordan Hill.
Insight: Hill will make $9 million in the first year of the contract and the Lakers have a $9 million team option for the second season. Hill averaged 20.8 minutes, 9.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, all career highs, last season.
Nick Young, G/F7/11/2014 7:57:00 PM
Description: Nick Young has re-signed with the Lakers for four years and $21.5 million, according to Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times.
Insight: Young averaged 17.9 ppg last season, but he's not going to average 13.9 field-goal attempts, 5.5 3-point attempts and 4.5 free-throw attempts per game again. Because he doesn't offer anything besides scoring, he's not going to be a good fantasy option next season.
Jeremy Lin, G 7/11/2014 7:52:00 PM
Description: The Rockets will trade Jeremy Lin to the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.
Insight: The Rockets also sent future first- and second-round picks to Los Angeles and will get back cash and the rights to an overseas player. Houston made the deal in an effort to clear cap space to sign Chris Bosh, but Bosh spurned them to return to Miami. Lin averaged 28.9 minutes, 12.5 points, 4.1 assists and 1.2 threes last season and could start for Los Angeles, but he probably won't experience a big change in fantasy value.
Chris Kaman, C7/4/2014 2:45:00 PM
Description: Center Chris Kaman has reached a deal with Portland, according to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Insight: Kaman is just a backup these days and has little to no fantasy value except as a handcuff.
Nick Young, G/F6/24/2014 9:08:00 PM
Description: Nick Young is opting out of his contract. He'll become a free agent on July 1st. SOURCE: ESPN Los Angeles
Insight: It's a no-brainer for Swaggy P, who will earn much more on the open market. The 29-year-old averaged a career-high 17.9 ppg in 64 appearances for the Lakers last season.
Julius Randle, F6/12/2014 8:37:00 PM
Description: We've heard conflicting reports regarding the health of Kentucky forward and projected lottery pick Julius Randle.
Insight: Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski says teams are worried Randle's broken foot is healing slower than expected and could require surgery. Randle took to Twitter to refute that report. Either way, we'd be surprised if Randle fell out of the top-ten.
Kobe Bryant, G4/21/2014 1:58:00 PM
Description: ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reports Lakers guard Kobe Bryant (knee) has been cleared to run and shoot.
Insight: Bryant will begin a six-month program and should be ready for 2014-15. Whether we will ever see the "old" Bryant again is a question for later in his recovery. He averaged 13.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 6.3 apg for the six games he played this season.
Jordan Hill, PFHot4/16/2014 10:31:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles PF/C Jordan Hill finished the season in style, scoring 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting Wednesday in a win over San Antonio.
Insight: He also contributed 14 rebounds in his 28 minutes of action. It's Hill's 15th double-double of the season and his third in the last four games.
Steve Nash, G4/16/2014 1:21:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Steve Nash (nerve irritation) will miss the last game of the regular season Wednesday, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
Insight: Nash has appeared in just 15 games this season due to a nerve irritation. He moved into third place on the all-time NBA assists list in his last game on April 8 and is under contract for one more season.
Chris Kaman, C4/16/2014 1:20:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Chris Kaman (strained calf) will not play Wednesday in the regular season finale, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
Insight: This is his eighth straight absence. With Pau Gasol (vertigo) also out, Jordan Hill, Ryan Kelly and Robert Sacre will continue to handle the frontcourt minutes for Los Angeles.
Steve Nash, G4/14/2014 8:19:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Steve Nash (nerve irritation) will not play Monday and is doubtful for the final game of the season Wednesday, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
Insight: Nash has continually aggravated his nerve issue when he has attempted to play. He has appeared in just 15 games this season.
Chris Kaman, C4/14/2014 8:18:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Chris Kaman (strained calf) is out Monday and doubtful for the final game of the season, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
Insight: This is his seventh straight absence. With Pau Gasol (vertigo) out for the season, Jordan Hill, Ryan Kelly and Robert Sacre will continue to handle the frontcourt minutes for Los Angeles.
Chris Kaman, C4/14/2014 2:06:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Chris Kaman (strained calf) participated in a light practice on Saturday and could possibly make an appearance in the final two games.
Insight: He didn't play Sunday, his sixth consecutive missed game. His absence has allowed Jordan Hill (two straight double-doubles) and Ryan Kelly to start in the frontcourt with Pau Gasol (vertigo) also still sidelined.
Pau Gasol, PF/C4/13/2014 5:09:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Pau Gasol (vertigo) will miss the rest of the regular season, according to Mike Trudell of lakers.com.
Insight: The Lakers have no reason to push Gasol to play, especially because he already had one recurrence of his condition following a return. He'll be a free agent after the season and should attract plenty of attention after putting up 17.4 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game this season.
Steve Nash, G4/11/2014 5:38:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Steve Nash (nerve irritation) is out Friday, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
Insight: Nash continues to attempt to come back but he seems to aggravate his nerve issue every time he steps on the court. He has played just 15 games this season.
Pau Gasol, PF/C4/11/2014 5:37:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Pau Gasol (vertigo) has been ruled out for Friday's game, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
Insight: He's still battling vertigo and could miss the rest of the season. Jordan Hill has been filling in and averaged 15.6 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks over his last 10 games.
Chris Kaman, C4/10/2014 5:52:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Chris Kaman (strained calf) doesn't know if he'll be back this season, according to Mike Trudell of lakers.com. He's been ruled out for Friday.
Insight: He's out with a calf strain. His absence has allowed Jordan Hill and Ryan Kelly to start in the frontcourt with Pau Gasol (vertigo) still sidelined.
Pau Gasol, PF/C4/10/2014 5:49:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Pau Gasol (vertigo) is doubtful for Friday's game, according to Mike Trudell of lakers.com.
Insight: He's still battling vertigo and could miss the rest of the season. Jordan Hill has been filling in and averaged 15.6 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks over his last 10 games.
Steve Nash, G4/9/2014 11:25:00 AM
Description: Lakers guard Steve Nash said he suffered a setback to his injured hamstring during Tuesday's 15-point loss to Houston. SOURCE: Mark Medina, Los Angeles Daily News
Insight: He's been battling nerve issues all season and the problem resurfaced on Tuesday night. Nash says he's unlikely to play again in 2014, though he's said that before and come back numerous times.
Steve Nash, G4/9/2014 9:21:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles guard Steve Nash, once thought to be out for the season, dished out five assists Tuesday in a loss to Houston.
Insight: By doing that, Nash (6.8 ppg, 5.7 apg) moved into third on the all-time assists list ahead of former Pacers point guard Mark Jackson. Ironically, Nash's next chance to play will be Friday against the Warriors, who are coached by Jackson.
Nick Young, G/FHot4/9/2014 9:17:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles swingman Nick Young was a scoring machine Tuesday against the Rockets.
Insight: Swaggy P netted 32 points in only 23 minutes of court time. He's averaged 24.2 ppg on 49.4 percent shooting during the Lakers' five-game losing streak.
Steve Nash, G4/8/2014 2:46:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Steve Nash (back) is probable for Tuesday's game against Houston.
Insight: Nerve issues in the 40-year-old's back have limited him to 14 games this season and he's a part-time player at best.
Chris Kaman, C4/7/2014 8:17:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Chris Kaman will miss his fourth consecutive game Tuesday against the Rockets.
Insight: He's out with a calf strain. Jordan Hill (9.2 ppg, 7.3 rpg) filled in at center Sunday versus the Clippers and should get the start there again on Tuesday.
Pau Gasol, PF/C4/7/2014 8:09:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles center Pau Gasol won't be available Tuesday against Houston. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: He's still battling vertigo and could miss the rest of the season. Bob Sacre (5.2 ppg, 3.8 rpg) is the only healthy center on L.A.'s roster at the moment.
Kent Bazemore, G4/7/2014 7:59:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles shooting guard Kent Bazemore has a torn tendon in his right foot. He's done for the season. SOURCE: NBA.com
Insight: That's not what fantasy owners wanted to hear. Prior to getting hurt on Sunday, Bazemore had scored at least a dozen points in each of his last five games. Wesley Johnson (8.9 ppg, 4.1 rpg) is likely to start in Bazemore's place Tuesday against the Rockets.
Nick Young, G/F4/6/2014 7:34:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles G/F Nick Young left Sunday's game with a knee injury but expects to play Tuesday night against Houston. SOURCE: Lakers.com
Insight: He said he's "going down with the ship." Young is second on the team in scoring (17.2 ppg) despite only starting nine games this season.
Jordan Farmar, G4/6/2014 5:36:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Jordan Farmar plans to return Tuesday versus Houston. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: He's sat out the last 11 games with a groin injury. The injury-plagued Lakers should have plenty of minutes for him upon his return.
Kent Bazemore, G4/6/2014 4:44:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Kent Bazemore sprained his right foot during Sunday's game and will not return, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
Insight: Bazemore's X-rays were negative and he'll have an MRI Monday. The Lakers began the game with just nine available players and are down to eight with Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Chris Kaman, Xavier Henry, Steve Nash, Jordan Farmar and Bazemore all out.
Kent Bazemore, G4/6/2014 4:21:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Kent Bazemore was helped off the court and to the locker room Sunday due to a right ankle injury, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
Insight: Bazemore appeared to be in a lot of pain and probably won't return. The Lakers began the game with just nine available players.
Jordan Farmar, G4/6/2014 2:18:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Jordan Farmar (groin) will miss Sunday's game, according to Mike Trudell of lakers.com.
Insight: It will be his 11th straight absence due to a groin injury. He's hoping to return this week but may just sit out the rest of the season.
Pau Gasol, PF/C4/5/2014 3:32:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Pau Gasol (vertigo) will not play Sunday, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
Insight: It will be his seventh absence in the last eight games due to vertigo. The Lakers may shut him down for the rest of the season, and with Chris Kaman (calf) also hurting Jordan Hill has been playing a big role.
Steve Nash, G4/5/2014 3:30:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Steve Nash (back) will not play Sunday. SOURCE: Dave McMenamin, ESPN Los Angeles
Insight: Friday's game was probably Nash's last of the season. Nerve issues in the 40-year-old's back have limited him to 14 games this season.
Chris Kaman, C4/5/2014 3:29:00 PM
Description: According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, Lakers center Chris Kaman will sit out again Sunday due to a calf strain.
Insight: Pau Gasol (vertigo) is out as well, so look for Jordan Hill (16 ppg, 12.5 rpg last two games) to play a big role again.

Insight: Lost in the shuffle of the Lakers' terrible season is Gasol's return to his star form. He has produced 20.8 ppg, 10.8 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.8 bpg over his last 23 games.
Steve Nash, G3/3/2014 5:25:00 PM
Description: Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni says he "doubts" Steve Nash (back) will play again this season, according to DAve McMenamin of espn.com.
Insight: Nash (7.6 ppg, 4.7 apg) has been battling nerve issues in his back all season. Jordan Farmar and Kendall Marshall will share point-guard duties, with Farmar serving as a better fantasy option.
Steve Nash, G3/3/2014 1:52:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Steve Nash is questionable for Monday's game against Portland.
Insight: Nash (7.6 ppg, 4.7 apg) has been battling back and nerve issues all season. Don't look for Kendall Marshall anymore, now that Jordan Farmar is back, if Nash doesn't play Farmar is the best Lakers' fantasy option at PG.
Nick Young, G3/2/2014 4:38:00 PM
Description: Lakers swingman Nick Young (knee) will not play Monday against the Trail Blazers, according to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News.
Insight: Young (16.8 ppg) will miss his 10th game in the last 11 Monday. He suffered a non-displaced fracture in his knee on Feb. 5 and obviously returned too soon on Feb. 23.
Nick Young, G2/28/2014 6:01:00 PM
Description: A Lakers spokesperson said Friday that he doesn't think Nick Young (knee) is "real close" to returning, according to Bill Oram of the Orange County Register.
Insight: Young (16.8 ppg) missed two weeks with a knee fracture before returning for a game, then missed the last two games. His scoring average is nice but because he contributes almost nothing else, Young isn't a must-own. His absence will be good for Kent Bazemore (17.3 ppg, 3.0 apg, 2.3 rpg, 2.0 spg last four games), Wesley Johnson, Jodie Meeks and Jordan Farmar.
Chris Kaman, C2/28/2014 5:14:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Chris Kaman (sore back) is probable for Friday's game, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com.
Insight: Kaman had a nice seven-game run with fantasy relevance this month but has minimal fantasy value with Pau Gasol back.
Chris Kaman, C2/28/2014 1:44:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Chris Kaman missed Wednesday's game due to a bad back and is questionable for Friday's game against Sacramento.
Insight: Kaman had a nice seven-game run with fantasy relevance this month but has minimal fantasy value now that Pau Gasol is back.
Steve Nash, G2/28/2014 1:42:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Steve Nash is doubtful for Friday's game against Sacramento.
Insight: Nash (7.6 ppg, 4.7 apg) has been battling back and nerve issues all season. With Nash likely out and Steve Blake gone, Kendall Marshall should be a viable option for fantasy owners, but has gone scoreless in his last two games. Avoid the point guards.
Jordan Farmar, G2/26/2014 10:37:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Jordan Farmar had 16 points, four threes, three assists, two steals and one block in just 24 minutes Wednesday at Memphis.
Insight: The Lakers are still taking it easy with Farmar after he missed a good portion of December, January and February with hamstring injuries. However, he may be in line for more minutes after Kendall Marshall went 3-of-19 from the field combined the last four games (0-9 the last two).
Wesley Johnson, G/FHot2/26/2014 10:33:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles G/F Wesley Johnson had 18 points, five rebounds, two assists, four blocks and four threes in 38 minutes Wednesday at Memphis.
Insight: There aren't many players in the NBA averaging 1.0 blocks, 1.0 steals and 1.0 threes per game, and Johnson is one of them. He has played 34.4 minutes per game in February and averaged 13.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.8 threes, 1.4 blocks and 1.1 steals during the month.
Chris Kaman, C2/26/2014 8:45:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Chris Kaman missed Wednesday's game due to a bad back, according to Ramona Shelburne of espn.com.
Insight: Shelburne says his absence has nothing to do with a buyout. Kaman had a nice seven-game run with fantasy relevance this month but has minimal fantasy value now that Pau Gasol is back.
Kent Bazemore, GHot2/25/2014 9:27:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Kent Bazemore has averaged 18.3 ppg, 2.7 apg, 2.3 rpg and 2.3 spg in three games since joining Los Angeles from Golden State.
Insight: Bazemore has played 101 minutes in his three games with the Lakers after seeing just 269 minutes in 44 games with the Warriors. He has set a new career high in points in each of his first three games with the team and had 23 Tuesday against the Pacers. He'll get at least one more game with Nick Young out of the lineup, and when Young returns he'll split the swingman minutes four ways with Jodie Meeks, Wesley Johnson and Young.
Nick Young, G2/25/2014 4:59:00 PM
Description: As expected, Los Angeles swingman Nick Young (knee) will miss the next two games, according to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News.
Insight: Young (16.8 ppg) played 20 minutes and had 10 points in his return from a knee fracture Sunday against the Nets. His scoring average is nice but because he contributes almost nothing else, Young isn't a must-own.
Nick Young, G2/23/2014 9:06:00 PM
Description: As expected, Los Angeles swingman Nick Young is back in the lineup for Sunday's game against Brooklyn.
Insight: Young (16.9 ppg) missed a little over two weeks with a knee fracture. Aside from Pau Gasol, he might be the best scorer the Lakers have right now. Get him back in your lineup ASAP.
Kent Bazemore, G2/23/2014 6:58:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Kent Bazemore will make his first start Sunday against Brooklyn. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: That was fast. Bazemore joined the Lakers on Friday and only needed one game to impress head coach Mike D'Antoni. For fantasy owners, it's way too early to consider Bazemore an option. Though he did score 15 points against Boston, Bazemore has only averaged 2.3 ppg in 45 career games. We'll see what he can accomplish Sunday versus the Nets.
Ryan Kelly, F2/23/2014 2:46:00 PM
Description: Lakers power forward Ryan Kelly will move to the bench Sunday in favor of Kent Bazemore after playing just 12 minutes Friday.
Insight: Kelly averaged 30 minutes, 13.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.4 threes from Jan. 17 to Feb. 7 but has seen just 18.3 minutes per game and put up 4.6 points and 2.2 rebounds on average his last five contests. He can be dropped in all leagues.
Steve Nash, G2/21/2014 3:31:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Steve Nash won't play Friday against Boston. SOURCE: Mark Medina, Los Angeles Daily News
Insight: Nash (7.6 ppg, 4.7 apg) has been battling back and nerve issues all season. With Nash out and Steve Blake gone, Kendall Marshall should be a viable option for fantasy owners.
Chris Kaman, C2/21/2014 2:17:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Chris Kaman will move back to the bench with the return of starter Pau Gasol.
Insight: Though there was some talk about starting both big men, its not going to happen. The Lakers Friday night starting lineup will be Gasol, Wes Johnson, Ryan Kelly, Kendall Marshall and Jodie Meeks. Looks like the end of Kaman's fantasy value.
Pau Gasol, F2/21/2014 2:15:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Pau Gasol will start Friday against Boston. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: Gasol has missed the last seven games with a groin injury. Prior to the injury, Gasol had averaged 21.1 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.8 blocks over his last 16 games. Chris Kaman will move to a backup role.
Nick Young, G2/19/2014 9:53:00 PM
Description: Nick Young told ESPN's J.A. Adande that he hopes to be back in the lineup Sunday versus Brooklyn.
Insight: Swaggy P has sat out five straight games with a non-displaced knee fracture. The high-scoring swingman is a must-start when healthy.
Jordan Farmar, G2/19/2014 9:16:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Jordan Farmar is active for Wednesday's game against the Rockets. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: It's Farmar's first game in two weeks. Hamstring issues have bothered Farmar (9.3 ppg, 4.9 apg) all season. Kendall Marshall is expected to start with Farmar coming off the bench.
Steve Nash, G2/19/2014 8:52:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Steve Nash won't be available Wednesday against Houston. SOURCE: Bill Oram, Orange County Register
Insight: He's out with an upper respiratory illness. Nash (7.6 ppg, 4.7 apg) just can't seem to catch a break. Wednesday will mark the veteran's 44th absence since the start of the season.
Jordan Farmar, G2/19/2014 4:15:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Jordan Farmar (hamstring) will be a game-time decision Wednesday, according to Bill Oram of the Orange County Register.
Insight: Farmar has played just five of Los Angeles' last 35 games due to multiple hamstring injuries. He practiced Tuesday but the team is being careful with him. Even if he plays Wednesday coach Mike D'Antoni said it won't be a lot.
Pau Gasol, F2/19/2014 2:34:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Pau Gasol (groin) will not play Wednesday against the Rockets. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: Gasol practiced Tuesday so he should be getting close to a return. Prior to the injury Gasol had averaged 21.1 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.8 blocks in his last 16 games.
Steve Nash, G2/18/2014 6:29:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Steve Nash (back) is doubtful for Wednesday's game against the Rockets. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: Nash is still dealing with nerve irritation and at this point it's fair to wonder if he'll struggle with this issue all season. With Jordan Farmar (hamstring) also doubtful, Steve Blake and Kendall Marshall will once again play big roles if Nash cannot go.
Kobe Bryant, G2/18/2014 6:26:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles shooting guard Kobe Bryant's knee hasn't healed enough to undergo an MRI, according to Mike Trudell of lakers.com.
Insight: Bryant still has swelling and pain in his knee. He'll need to undergo an MRI before resuming any other activity.
Jordan Farmar, G2/18/2014 6:23:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Jordan Farmar (hamstring) is doubtful for Wednesday's game, according to Mike Trudell of lakers.com.
Insight: Farmar has played just five of Los Angeles' last 35 games due to multiple hamstring injuries. He practiced Tuesday but the team is being careful with him and probably will sit him Wednesday.
Nick Young, G2/18/2014 6:15:00 PM
Description: Lakers swingman Nick Young has been ruled out for Wednesday's game, according to Mike Trudell of lakers.com.
Insight: Young (16.9 ppg) will miss his fifth straight game Wednesday due to a non-displaced fracture of his left knee.
Pau Gasol, F2/18/2014 6:13:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Pau Gasol (groin) looked good in practice Tuesday and could be upgraded to questionable for Wednesday's game. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, lakers.com
Insight: Gasol has missed six straight games and was believed to be doubtful for Wednesday prior to Tuesday's practice. Prior to the injury Gasol had averaged 21.1 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.8 blocks in his last 16 games.
Jodie Meeks, G2/18/2014 5:53:00 PM
Description: Lakers shooting guard Jodie Meeks should be a go for Wednesday's game against Houston. SOURCE: Lakers on Twitter
Insight: A badly sprained ankle has kept Meeks out since February 4th. Steve Blake and Wesley Johnson will probably see a few less minutes in the likely event that Meeks plays on Wednesday.
Pau Gasol, F2/17/2014 11:17:00 AM
Description: If Lakers center Pau Gasol (groin) returns Wednesday, Los Angeles' first game after the All-Star break, it may restart trade talks for the talented center.
Insight: Gasol has missed six straight games. Prior to the injury Gasol had averaged 21.1 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.8 blocks in his last 16 games. He's certainly a candidate to be traded as the Lakers should be in rebuilding mode. Chris Kaman's fantasy value is tied to Gasol's playing time in Los Angeles.
Kendall Marshall, PG2/13/2014 4:08:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Kendall Marshall will start Thursday against the Thunder.
Insight: Steve Nash will sit and Jordan Farmar is doubtful, leaving the point guard spot open for Marshall once again. The former North Carolina Tar Heel averaged 11.9 points, 11.5 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 2.0 threes in 15 starts this season but has been coming off the bench since Nash, Steve Blake and Farmar returned to the lineup simultaneously.
Pau Gasol, F2/13/2014 4:06:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Pau Gasol (groin) said he might be able to play as soon as Wednesday, Los Angeles' first game after the All-Star break, according to Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times.
Insight: Gasol missed five straight games and will sit out again Thursday. Prior to the injury Gasol had averaged 21.1 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.8 blocks in his last 16 games. He's a candidate to be traded before the deadline but his injury may prevent a deal. Chris Kaman's value is only when Gasol isn't in a Lakers uniform.
Steve Blake, PG2/12/2014 3:59:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Steve Blake expects to play against the Thunder on Thursday. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: Blake has been plagued by a sore elbow recently. We wouldn't recommend Blake for fantasy purposes after watching him shoot just 2-for-11 Tuesday in a loss to Utah.
Steve Nash, G2/12/2014 3:37:00 PM
Description: The Lakers have ruled Steve Nash out for Thursday's game against Oklahoma City. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: Nash is still dealing with nerve irritation and at this point it's fair to wonder if he'll struggle with this issue all season. Backup point guard Steve Blake (9.3 ppg, 7.8 apg) will get the nod Thursday in L.A.'s final game before the All-Star break.
Xavier Henry, G/F2/12/2014 3:20:00 PM
Description: Xavier Henry's recovery timetable has been pushed back another four weeks. Henry hasn't played since injuring his knee in late December. SOURCE: Dave McMenamin, ESPN Los Angeles
Insight: He's having his right knee drained on Wednesday. At this point, it might be better for the Lakers to go ahead and shut Henry down for the season. Even when healthy, Henry's fantasy impact is minimal (10.1 ppg).
Pau Gasol, F2/12/2014 11:55:00 AM
Description: We should get an update on Pau Gasol's injured groin after he's re-evaluated on Thursday. SOURCE: Mark Medina, Los Angeles Daily News
Insight: Gasol hopes to be back immediately following the All-Star break. That could be trouble for Chris Kaman, who has been on a roll lately (20.5 ppg in his last four games). The Lakers have gone 2-3 during Gasol's absence.
Steve Blake, PGCold2/12/2014 9:58:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles point guard Steve Blake had a rough night Tuesday versus Utah. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: Bothered by a sore elbow, Blake just couldn't find his stroke on Tuesday. He finished with five points on just 2-of-11 shooting. It sounds like Blake should play Thursday against the Thunder, though it's getting kind of hard to trust him. Kendall Marshall might be the better option for the Lakers at this point.
Steve Nash, G2/12/2014 9:53:00 AM
Description: For the second game in a row, Lakers point Steve Nash left early because of nerve irritation. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: He sat out the entire second half. Nash (7.6 ppg, 4.7 apg) could be a Hall of Famer someday but he's not helping anybody this season. Consider him questionable for Thursday's game against OKC.
Chris Kaman, CHot2/12/2014 9:49:00 AM
Description: Lakers center Chris Kaman was dominant in Tuesday night's loss to Utah.
Insight: Kaman was L.A.'s best player on Tuesday, providing 25 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots. With no timetable in place for Pau Gasol's groin injury, Kaman should be the Lakers' starting center for the forseeable future.
Chris Kaman, CHot2/11/2014 2:35:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles center Chris Kaman will start on Tuesday, replacing Robert Sacre in the lineup, according to Lakers reporter Mike Trudell.
Insight: The 28 minutes Kaman logged on Sunday were his most since December 27th against Utah and he posted 27 points and 10 rebounds. He has averaged 19 ppg over the last three games and should be a viable option for as long as Pau Gasol is sidelined.
Steve Nash, G2/11/2014 2:33:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Steve Nash will be ready for Tuesday's game against Utah. SOURCE: Lakers.com
Insight: He exited Sunday's game with a leg issue but it obviously wasn't serious. Nash (8.2 ppg, 5.0 apg) has averaged 24.7 mpg in three games since coming back from a nerve injury.
Steve Nash, G2/9/2014 7:42:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Steve Nash thinks he'll be ready for Tuesday's game against Utah. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: He exited Sunday's game with a leg issue but it doesn't appear to be serious. We'll take Nash at his word for now but fantasy owners should definitely check up on his status ahead of game time. With only two games left until the All-Star break, the Lakers could opt to rest their aging point guard.
Chris Kaman, CHot2/9/2014 6:05:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles center Chris Kaman went viral this week after laying on the bench. Sunday, he made headlines with his play instead, going off for 27 points and ten rebounds in a loss to Chicago.
Insight: The 28 minutes Kaman logged on Sunday were his most since December 27th against Utah. Kaman (9.4 ppg, 5.5 rpg) should continue to see a heavy workload as long as Pau Gasol is out with a groin injury.
Steve Nash, G2/9/2014 5:15:00 PM
Description: Steve Nash injured his leg Sunday against Chicago. ESPN sideline reporter Lisa Salters says he'll be out for the rest of the game.
Insight: Salters referred to Nash's injury as a "nerve irritation." It's possible Nash overextended himself by playing 21 minutes in the first two and a half quarters. Without him, the Lakers will look to Steve Blake and Kendall Marshall to run the point. With only eight available players, the Lakers better hope they don't get into foul trouble like they did Wednesday against Cleveland.
Xavier Henry, G/F2/9/2014 3:33:00 PM
Description: The Lakers expect swingman Xavier Henry to be out until after the All-Star break. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: This isn't exactly breaking news. Henry has been sidelined by a knee injury since December 29th and remains without a timetable. Wes Johnson has been playing huge minutes in his absence and is probably worth an add after his 17-point, five-steal outing Friday against the Sixers (17.3 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 2.3 bpg, 1.7 spg in his last three games).
Jodie Meeks, G2/8/2014 5:04:00 PM
Description: Eric Pincus of the Los Angeles Times reports that Jodie Meeks (ankle) is not expected to play again until after the All-Star break.
Insight: Meeks suffered an ankle sprain after just one minute on Feb. 4. He came in averaging 18.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.6 threes and 1.9 steals over his last 15 games. With Nick Young also out through the break, fantasy owners should grab Steve Blake and Wesley Johnson.
Jordan Farmar, G2/8/2014 5:00:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Jordan Farmar (hamstring) is doubtful for Sunday's game, according to Eric Pincus of the Los Angeles Times.
Insight: Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni suggested Farmar could be out through the All-Star break due to a sore hamstring. Farmar played 33 minutes and had 21 points, eight assists, five threes and two steals on Feb. 5 after missing five weeks with a hamstring tear, but he may have returned too soon.
Steve Blake, PG2/7/2014 6:55:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Steve Blake is active for Friday's game in Philadelphia. SOURCE: Lakers.com
Insight: Since coming back from an elbow injury on Tuesday, Blake has already suffered a ruptured eardrum and a bruised thigh. The latter is what made him a game-time decision tonight against the Sixers. He'll start alongside Steve Nash (6.7 ppg, 5.4 apg) as the Lakers go for their second win in a row.
Jordan Farmar, G2/7/2014 11:59:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles guard Jordan Farmar (tired legs) is not expected to play Friday night, according to beat reporter Mike Bresnahan.
Insight: Farmar lit it up in his first game back with 21 points and 5-for-8 from beyond the arc. Steve nash is expected to return from a day off and Steve Blake is a game-time decision.
Nick Young, G2/6/2014 6:46:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles swingman Nick Young suffered a non-displaced fracture of his left knee Wednesday against the Cavs. He's going to be out for at least two weeks. SOURCE: Marc Spears, Yahoo Sports
Insight: The scene was laughable last night in Cleveland as the injury-depleted Lakers were down to four eligible players by the end of the game. Three-point specialist Wes Johnson (8.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg) figures to see the biggest rise in fantasy value with Swaggy P out of commission.
Jordan Farmar, G2/6/2014 9:33:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles guard Jordan Farmar (hamstring) had a big night in his return to action with 21 points, including 5-for-8 from beyond the arc.
Insight: The Lakers' Steve Blake also came up big his his return (11 points, 10 rebounds, 15 assists) as Los Angeles won 119-108 in Cleveland. The Lakers' backcourt will be in a state of flux for a while as they learn how to divide up the playing time.
Steve Blake, PG2/5/2014 10:18:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Steve Blake recorded the second triple-double of his career Wednesday in a bizarre victory over Cleveland.
Insight: Blake, who was playing with a ruptured eardrum, finished with 11 points, ten rebounds and 15 assists. By the end of the night, Los Angeles was down to just four eligible players as Robert Sacre was allowed to keep playing despite picking up his sixth foul. Hopefully the Lakers will have enough healthy bodies to field a team Friday when they travel to Philadelphia.
Robert Sacre, C2/5/2014 10:10:00 PM
Description: An absolutely preposterous series of events unfolded Wednesday in Cleveland as Lakers center Robert Sacre was allowed to keep playing despite picking up his sixth foul with just over three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
Insight: Because the Lakers only had four eligible players left (Nick Young and Jordan Farmar got hurt and Chris Kaman fouled out earlier in the game) and the league doesn't allow forfeits, Sacre played the final three and a half minutes with six fouls. If he had committed a seventh, he would have been just the second player in NBA history to accomplish that feat. If that had happened, the Lakers would have been whistled for a technical for each of Sacre's subsequent fouls. Amazingly, Los Angeles still won the game, 119-108. Sacre finished the night with ten points on 5-of-8 shooting.
Nick Young, G2/5/2014 8:40:00 PM
Description: Nick Young's night is over after twisting his knee Wednesday against the Cavaliers. SOURCE: Dave McMenamin, ESPN Los Angeles
Insight: He'll finish with just six points on 1-of-5 shooting. With Young out, Wes Johnson (8.4 ppg) should get as many minutes as he can handle at the three.
Jordan Hill, PF2/5/2014 7:06:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles PF/C Jordan Hill will miss Wednesday's game against Cleveland with a cervical strain. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: He suffered the injury last night in a loss to Minnesota. With Pau Gasol also out, Robert Sacre (4.4 ppg, 3.1 rpg) and Chris Kaman (8.2 ppg, 5.3 rpg) will have to man the low post for the faltering Lakers.
Steve Blake, PG2/5/2014 3:19:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Blake suffered a ruptured eardrum Tuesday, according to Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times. He'll have his eardrum repaired Wednesday.
Insight: Blake is expected to play Wednesday and says his ear doesn't hurt but "everything sounds funny." The 33-year-old started at shooting guard Tuesday in his first game since Dec. 10 after sitting out with a torn UCL in his right elbow. Blake should continue to get 30-32 minutes per game as a combo guard.
Jordan Hill, PF2/5/2014 3:15:00 PM
Description: Lakers power forward Jordan Hill (cervical strain) is a game-time decision Wednesday, according to Mike Trudell of lakers.com.
Insight: Hill doesn't have any fantasy value but the Lakers are thin up front with Pau Gasol (groin) out and need him to play.
Jordan Farmar, G2/5/2014 3:15:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Jordan Farmar (hamstring) didn't play Tuesday despite dressing for the game, but he may start Wednesday, according to Mike Trudell of lakers.com.
Insight: The Lakers had Steve Nash and Steve Blake return from lengthy absences Tuesday and it looks like Farmar will be back Wednesday from his own injury to replace Nash, who is out for rest purposes. Kendall Marshall's fantasy value is rapidly dropping.
Steve Nash, G2/5/2014 3:13:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Steve Nash (back) will not play Wednesday.
Insight: He'll rest after returning from a back injury Tuesday against Minnesota. Nash had seven points and nine assists in that contest. Jordan Farmar will start at point guard in Nash's place Wednesday versus Cleveland.
Jodie Meeks, G2/5/2014 10:52:00 AM
Description: The X-rays on Lakers guard Jodie Meeks' right ankle came back negative, but he will miss at least the next two games, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin.
Insight: Meeks left Tuesday's game with an ankle sprain after just one minute. He came in averaging 18.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.6 threes and 1.9 steals over his last 15 games. Nick Young, Wesley Johnson and Steve Blake will help fill the void.
Chris Kaman, C2/4/2014 10:42:00 PM
Description: Lakers center Chris Kaman played just 17 minutes Tuesday. It was his first action since Jan. 17, but still not what fantasy owners were looking for with Pau Gasol out.
Insight: Robert Sacre started at center Tuesday, played 31 minutes and had 14 points, four rebounds, one block and one steal. Even with Jordan Hill going down with a cervical strain and Ryan Kelly shooting 2-of-11 and playing just 21 minutes, Kaman couldn't get 20+ minutes. That should tell fantasy owners all they need to know about Mike D'Antoni's plans for the veteran center.
Kendall Marshall, PG2/4/2014 10:39:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Kendall Marshall played 21 minutes and had five points and three assists Tuesday with Steve Nash and Steve Blake back in the lineup.
Insight: Marshall averaged close to 39 minutes per night in January and posted 11.9 ppg, 11.5 apg, 3.6 rpg and 2.0 3pg, but as we expected his fantasy value will take a big hit with the two veteran guards back in the lineup.
Nick Young, G2/4/2014 10:35:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard/forward Nick Young had 24 points (4-12 FG, 13-14 FT) in 30 minutes off the bench Tuesday against Minnesota.
Insight: Young has played 29 minutes per game and averaged 17.1 ppg despite starting just nine of his 47 games. Now that Steve Nash and Steve Blake are back, there may be fewer minutes at the two for Jodie Meeks, Young and Wesley Johnson to play if Mike D'Antoni insists on starting Blake at shooting guard like he did Tuesday. The ankle injury Meeks suffered Tuesday will alleviate the logjam for now.
Jordan Hill, PF2/4/2014 9:08:00 PM
Description: Lakers power forward Jordan Hill suffered a cervical strain during Tuesday's game and will not return, according to Mike Trudell of lakers.com.
Insight: Hill doesn't have any fantasy value but the Lakers are getting thin up front with Pau Gasol (groin) also out.
Jodie Meeks, G2/4/2014 8:23:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Jodie Meeks left Tuesday's game with a right ankle sprain and won't return, according to Dave McMenamin of espn.com.
Insight: Meeks only played one minute and had zero points on 0-2 shooting. He came in averaging 18.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.6 threes and 1.9 steals over his last 15 games. Nick Young, Wesley Johnson and Steve Blake will help fill the void.
Pau Gasol, F2/4/2014 5:26:00 PM
Description: Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News reports that Pau Gasol is expected to miss at least two weeks due to his groin injury.
Insight: Gasol received a platelet-rich plasma injection Monday to accelerate the healing process. He'll miss six more games and won't return until after the All-Star break. The Suns have been talking to the Lakers about trading for Gasol but won't go through with a deal until Gasol demonstrates good health.
Jordan Farmar, G2/4/2014 5:16:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Jordan Farmar (hamstring) will dress for Tuesday's game, according to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News.
Insight: The Lakers are getting Steve Nash, Steve Blake and Jordan Farmar back from injuries on Tuesday. Kendall Marshall's fantasy value is about to take a huge hit.
Kendall Marshall, PG2/4/2014 2:57:00 PM
Description: Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni says he hopes to get point guard Kendall Marshall 20-25 minutes now that Steve Nash and Steve Blake are expected to return to the lineup.
Insight: Marshall averaged close to 39 minutes per night in January and posted 11.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 11.5 apg. Those numbers are about to take a huge hit.
Steve Blake, PG2/4/2014 1:40:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Blake (elbow) is expected to start at shooting guard alongside Steve Nash.
Insight: Kendall Marshall has been very good since joining the Lakers but his fantasy value will be iffy with Nash and Blake back in the lineup.
Steve Nash, G2/4/2014 1:35:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Steve Nash (back) is expected to start at point guard Tuesday night at Minnesota.
Insight: Nash and Steve Blake will make up a brand new Lakers backcourt. This won't be the MVP Nash, as this version will likely be limited to around 15 minutes of action. Kendall Marshall's fantasy value takes a big nosedive.
Pau Gasol, F2/4/2014 9:39:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles Lakers PF/C Pau Gasol had a PRP injection Monday to help his groin heal.
Insight: He's expected to miss the next three games. His absence could pave the way for Chris Kaman to actually have some fantasy value. As a starter Kaman is averaging 11.8 ppg and 9.8 rpg this season.
Steve Nash, G2/3/2014 7:53:00 AM
Description: Lakers point guard Steve Nash (back) practiced again on Sunday and should play Tuesday against the Timberwolves, according to beat reporter Mark Trudell.
Insight: Nash, Steve Blake and Jordan Farmar are all nearing a return, which will significantly lower the fantasy value of Kendall Marshall.
Pau Gasol, F2/2/2014 8:00:00 PM
Description: The Phoenix Suns have emerged as potential trading partners for the Los Angeles Lakers if Los Angeles chooses to make PF/C Pau Gasol available. SOURCE: Marc Stein, espn.com.
Insight: The Suns would be able to swap Emeka Okafor's expiring $14.5 million contract for Gasol's $19.3 million expiring deal because they have $5.6 million in available salary-cap space. By making that move, the Lakers would be less than $3 million away from the league's luxury-tax threshold. Gasol is out for a week with a groin strain after averaging 21.1 points, 11.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks his last 16 games. He would maintain his current fantasy value on Phoenix as the expense of Miles Plumlee (9.5 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 1.5 bpg).
Pau Gasol, F2/1/2014 7:15:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles PF/C Pau Gasol has been diagnosed with a strained right groin. He's going to be out for at least a week. SOURCE: NBA.com
Insight: That's significant as the Lakers have four games on tap for next week. Chris Kaman (8.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg) will get first dibs at center with Jordan Hill (8.4 ppg, 7.3 rpg) waiting in the on deck circle in case things go south.
Chris Kaman, C2/1/2014 7:05:00 PM
Description: Chris Kaman's MRI on his right knee came back clean. He'll be ready to play Tuesday versus the Timberwolves. SOURCE: Mark Medina, Los Angeles Daily News
Insight: That might actually mean something now that Pau Gasol is out with a groin injury. With Los Angeles playing in four games next week, Kaman (8.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg) will definitely be worth a look.
Steve Blake, PG1/31/2014 5:43:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Blake (elbow) could be back Tuesday, according to Bill Oram of the Orange County Register.
Insight: Injured point guards Blake, Steve Nash and Jordan Farmar all have similar timetables to return. Kendall Marshall has been very good since joining the Lakers but his fantasy value will be iffy if Nash, Blake and Farmar are all healthy.
Steve Nash, G1/31/2014 5:41:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Steve Nash (back) had no setbacks after Thursday's practice and could play Tuesday against the Timberwolves, according to Bill Oram of the Orange County Register.
Insight: Nash, Steve Blake and Jordan Farmar are all nearing a return, which will throw the fantasy value of Kendall Marshall (10.5 ppg, 9.5 apg, 2.9 rpg, 1.9 3pg) into limbo.
Jodie Meeks, GHot1/31/2014 5:13:00 PM
Description: According to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News, Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni expects guard Jodie Meeks (foot) to play Friday.
Insight: Meeks is dealing with a minor foot injury. He has been good for 18.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.6 threes and 1.9 steals in his last 14 games and should be owned in all leagues.
Pau Gasol, FHot1/31/2014 5:10:00 PM
Description: Lakers PF/C Pau Gasol (foot, groin) will play Friday against the Bobcats.
Insight: Gasol missed Thursday's practice. He has been playing through injuries all season but has returned to top form with averages of 20.9 points, 11.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.8 blocks in his last 15 games. He has scored 20+ points in nine straight games and generated five straight double-doubles.
Pau Gasol, F1/30/2014 4:16:00 PM
Description: Lakers PF/C Pau Gasol is dealing with an injured groin and foot and missed Thursday's practice.
Insight: Gasol is still expected to play on Friday. Long-term, if it doesn't improve and the Lakers are out of playoff contention they could opt to sit him for a while until he is 100 percent.
Steve Nash, G1/30/2014 4:09:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Steve Nash practiced on Thursday, though he has already been ruled out for Friday night.
Insight: Kendall Marshall will continue to run the point until Nash returns and even after the aging point guard comes back, don't expect him to play a fukll complement of minutes.
Pau Gasol, F1/29/2014 10:25:00 AM
Description: Lakers PF/C Pau Gasol didn't look healthy in Tuesday night's loss to Indiana. SOURCE: Kevin Ding, Bleacher Report
Insight: This time it looks like Gasol is dealing with a groin injury. He's also been playing with a sprained toe so Gasol is extremely banged up right now. With almost no chance to make the playoffs and no return in sight for Steve Nash or Kobe Bryant, there might come a point when the Lakers decide to shut Gasol down and give him as much time as he needs to recover. Fantasy owners should have a backup plan in place.
Kobe Bryant, G1/29/2014 10:23:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles shooting guard Kobe Bryant won't be examined for at least another three weeks. He's missed 21 games with a fractured bone close to his left knee. SOURCE: Lakers on Twitter
Insight: Obviously, he's not anywhere close to returning. Bryant won't be available for the All-Star Game in two weeks, which leaves a vacant spot on the Western Conference roster.
Kobe Bryant, G1/28/2014 5:52:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant (knee) is expected to miss at least two more weeks due to a fractured tibial plateau in his left knee. SOURCE: Kevin Ding, Bleacher Report
Insight: Bryant may even miss another month, as his knee hasn't healed yet. The Lakers had initially been pointing to a reevaluation Tuesday as a point in which Bryant might be cleared to play, but he's dealing with so much discomfort that he won't even have an MRI or any other diagnostic procedure when he meets with Lakers doctor Steve Lombardo Tuesday night.
Steve Nash, G1/27/2014 8:53:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Steve Nash was hoping to return Tuesday against the Pacers but he suffered a setback and wasn't able to practice on Monday. Back and nerve issues have limited Nash to just six games this season. SOURCE: Ramona Shelburne, ESPN Los Angeles
Insight: That puts his status for Tuesday's game in doubt. At this point, Kendall Marshall might give the Lakers a better chance to win than the aging Nash anyway. Don't expect the team to rush him back into action.
Jodie Meeks, G1/27/2014 8:41:00 PM
Description: An MRI on Jodie Meeks' injured foot came back negative. He'll be ready to play Tuesday when the Lakers host Indiana. SOURCE: Ramona Shelburne, ESPN Los Angeles
Insight: Meeks looked fine in Sunday's loss to the Knicks (24 points in 43 minutes) so we're guessing the MRI was merely a precaution. He'll grab another start at shooting guard Tuesday against the Eastern Conference-leading Pacers.
Jodie Meeks, GHot1/26/2014 6:16:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Jodie Meeks' 24 points, six threes and two steals were not enough to end the Lakers' losing streak.
Insight: Meeks has had a fantastic month, averaging 18.8 points, 2.6 threes and 1.8 steals in 13 games.
Nick Young, G1/26/2014 2:43:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard/forward Nick Young will get a rare start on Sunday against the Knicks.
Insight: Young starts in place of Wesley Johnson. It shouldn't change much. He's averaged almost 20 shots per game over the past three contests, playing 35 mpg, so how many more can he throw up at the rim?
Kendall Marshall, PGHot1/26/2014 10:03:00 AM
Description: Lakers point guard Kendall Marshall returned to being a fantasy worthy option Friday night and hopefully will continue being a double-double guy Sunday against the Knicks.
Insight: Marshall has six double-doubles in his last eight games making him a solid option until the Lakers get Kobe Bryant and the rest of the "MASH" unit back on the court.
Kobe Bryant, G1/26/2014 9:59:00 AM
Description: Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni expects shooting guard Kobe Bryant to return before the All-Star break.
Insight: Of course, D'Antoni also had mentioned Jan 28 as a return date a week ago so we can't go by his forecasting skills. Bryant will be evaluated this week and again next week and we should have a better idea for a realistic timetable.
Kendall Marshall, PGHot1/24/2014 10:23:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Kendall Marshall turned in a solid outing Friday against the Magic.
Insight: Marshall tied a season-high with 19 points while also handing out 14 assists. He's reached double-digit assists in nine of his 12 games this month, though unfortunately for Lakers fans, Los Angeles has gone 3-9 during that stretch.
Xavier Henry, G/F1/24/2014 6:30:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles G/F Xavier Henry will need another 10-to-14 days to recover from a strained knee. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: Kobe Bryant will probably be back by the time Henry returns, eliminating any fantasy value that he may have had. Henry (10.1 ppg) hasn't played since December 29th.
Kobe Bryant, G1/23/2014 9:31:00 PM
Description: Despite only playing in six games this season, Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant has been chosen to represent the Western Conference in next month's All-Star Game.
Insight: James Harden and Tony Parker probably would have been better choices but there's no denying Bryant will make the game more entertaining. Of course, that's assuming he plays, which is not a foregone conclusion after his latest knee injury.
Steve Nash, G1/23/2014 7:46:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Steve Nash could return to the lineup as soon as Tuesday. He's been out with a back injury. SOURCE: Mike Bresnahan, Los Angeles Times
Insight: Thursday night will mark Nash's 35th consecutive absence. If Nash does return Tuesday against Indiana, he'll likely be on a minutes limit. Kendall Marshall fantasy owners should be selling high right now.
Kobe Bryant, G1/23/2014 9:57:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles guards Kobe Bryant originally said he'd have his knee re-evaluated in February, but its been moved up to Monday or Tuesday of next week, according to Laker beat writer Dave McMenamin.
Insight: Kobe hasn't done much yet, so still figures to be a February return, but perhaps this speed up of the process makes an early return next month possible.
Steve Blake, PG1/23/2014 9:52:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Blake is in his fifth week on the sidelines due to a torn UCL in his right (shooting) elbow.
Insight: He's not going to come back early as his next reevaluation isn't scheduled until Feb. 1, according to Los Angeles beat writer Dave McMenamin. The Lakers have already used six point guards this season.
Pau Gasol, FHot1/22/2014 1:36:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles F/C Pau Gasol (strained toe) missed Wednesday's practice, according to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News.
Insight: The Lakers were likely just managing Gasol's workload to protect his strained big toe. The injury hasn't affected his play, as he has averaged 20.8 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.1 blocks in his last 11 games.
Nick Young, GHot1/20/2014 10:43:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard/forward Nick Young had another tremendous game Monday at Chicago, amking 11-of-23 from the field, 3-of-6 from 3-point range and 6-of-7 from the foul line for 31 points.
Insight: With Kobe Bryant out, the Lakers are giving Young the thing he craves the most: unlimited shots. Swaggy P has averaged 20.6 ppg over his last 18 contests.
Pau Gasol, FHot1/20/2014 10:40:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles F/C Pau Gasol had 20 points, 19 rebounds, five blocks and three steals Monday at Chicago. He has scored at least 20 points in five straight games and nine of the last 11.
Insight: Gasol has returned to his All-Star level with averages of 20.8 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.1 rejections over his last 11 games.
Kendall Marshall, PGHot1/20/2014 11:03:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles guard Kendall Marshall has posted five consecutive games of double-doubles.
Insight: The 22-year-old Marshall is averaging 13.0 points, 12.2 assists and 4.0 rpg as a Lakers starter this season. If he's available in your league, snap him up and play him until Nash and Kobe return.
Kobe Bryant, G1/20/2014 10:59:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles guards Kobe Bryant said he'd have his knee re-evaluated in February which blows the Jan. 28 timetable out of the water, according to Laker beat writer Dave McMenamin.
Insight: Kobe hasn't done anything more than a stationary bike so take any proposed return date with a grain of salt.
Ryan Kelly, F1/19/2014 3:58:00 PM
Description: Lakers rookie power forward Ryan Kelly had 17 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals over 37 minutes in his first career start Sunday at Toronto.
Insight: The second-round pick out of Duke was coming off a career-high 20 points in 34 minutes Friday at Boston. He's moved ahead of Jordan Hill on the depth chart for now.
Nick Young, G1/19/2014 3:41:00 PM
Description: Nick Young used a three-point barrage to pace the Lakers Sunday in a win against Toronto.
Insight: Young finished with a season-high 29 points on 7-of-13 shooting including 5-of-7 from three-point range. This was Young's first game back after being suspended for Friday night's game against the Celtics. The suspension stemmed from an incident he had with Phoenix center Alex Len earlier in the week.
Kendall Marshall, PGHot1/17/2014 10:00:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Kendall Marshall dished out double-digit assists for the fourth straight game and the sixth time in the last eight Friday at Boston. He had 14 assists to go with 19 points and four threes.
Insight: Marshall is not going away. We knew the 22-year-old was an expert passer but he has exceeded expectations across the board by averaging 13.4 points, 12.4 assists and 2.3 threes in eight games this month.
Manny Harris, G1/17/2014 11:14:00 AM
Description: Guard Manny Harris was signed by the Los Angeles Lakers and could see plenty of court time in his first game with Nick Young suspended for one game due to fighting.
Insight: Harris never did much with Cleveland over his two years in Ohio, averaging 6.2 ppg for 80 games. He is averaging 30.6 ppg in the D-League, so might have a little fantasy value until the big guns return.
Nick Young, G1/16/2014 5:45:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard/forward Nick Young has been suspended for one game for punching Goran Dragic during Wednesday's game, according to Marc Stein of espn.com.
Insight: Young took a hard foul from Alex Len in the second quarter Wednesday and got up to shove the Suns center. During the ensuing scuffle he took a wild swing in the direction of Dragic and was ejected. Young has averaged 18.2 ppg over his last 25 games.
Nick Young, G1/15/2014 10:17:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard/forward Nick Young was ejected from Wednesday's game against the Suns.
Insight: Young took a hard foul from Alex Len and got up to shove Len. Young was then pushed and ended up throwing what was deemed a punch at Goran Dragic's head. Young came in averaging an even 20 ppg his last 15 games.
Pau Gasol, F1/15/2014 9:07:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles F/C Pau Gasol (toe) is active for Wednesday's game, according to Mike Trudell of Lakers.com.
Insight: Gasol has been playing through a strained big toe but has been able to average 19 points and 12 rebounds over the last six games.
Pau Gasol, F1/15/2014 3:49:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles F/C Pau Gasol is listed as probable ahead of Wednesday's game in Phoenix. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: Gasol has been playing through a strained big toe. He's good for a double-double most nights.
Pau Gasol, F1/15/2014 9:27:00 AM
Description: Lakers big man Pau Gasol notched 20 points Tuesday versus the Cavaliers. He also came down with 12 boards and handed out three assists.
Insight: It was another productive evening for Gasol, who has averaged just over 18 ppg during the Lakers' five-game losing streak. Fantasy owners have to be pleased that Gasol didn't show any ill effects from the toe injury he suffered earlier this week.
Nick Young, G1/15/2014 9:23:00 AM
Description: Swaggy P was at it again Tuesday at Staples Center. Nick Young led the Lakers with 28 points in a losing effort against Cleveland.
Insight: Young knocked down half of his three-pointers (4-for-8) and was perfect from the line (10-for-10). The six assists he handed out were a season-high. We're not sure what will happen to Young when Kobe Bryant returns from a knee injury, but until then, he should be in your fantasy lineup.
Jodie Meeks, GHot1/15/2014 9:17:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles guard Jodie Meeks netted 26 points Tuesday in a loss to Cleveland.
Insight: Meeks shot just 2-of-10 from the field in his previous outing but was much better on Tuesday (9-of-14 including 6-of-10 from downtown). He's been Mamba-like in the month of January with averages of 20.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg and 3.2 apg. Meeks has made just under 44 percent of his field goals during that stretch.
Kendall Marshall, PGHot1/15/2014 9:12:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles guard Kendall Marshall was feeling generous Tuesday in a loss to Cleveland.
Insight: The former UNC star delivered 16 assists in his 38 minutes of court time. The Lakers' new floor general has dropped ten dimes or more four times over his past six games. He's also averaged 13 ppg over that span.
Xavier Henry, G/F1/14/2014 10:58:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Xavier Henry (knee) will miss at least one more week before being reevaluated, according to Mike Trudell of Lakers.com.
Insight: Henry's timetable has been pushed back twice. He'll miss four more games, not including Tuesday's. Fantasy owners don't need to hold onto him, as Kendall Marshall, Jodie Meeks and Nick Young all have been putting up good numbers.
Pau Gasol, F1/14/2014 10:20:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles PF/C Pau Gasol tested out his toe in warmups and said he felt good. It looks like he's good to go for Tuesday's game against Cleveland. SOURCE: Beto Duran, ESPN Radio
Insight: Gasol was diagnosed with a strained big toe on Monday but he's opting to play through the injury. He's averaged 18.8 ppg in the month of January.
Steve Nash, G1/14/2014 12:03:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Steve Nash (back) is eyeing Jan. 28 for his return, according to Coach Mike D'Antoni.
Insight: The 14-23 Lakers need to get all their weapons back if they are going to make a run at the playoffs. Nash, Kobe Bryant, Steve Blake, Xavier Henry and Jordan Farmar are still sidelined.
Pau Gasol, FHot1/14/2014 12:01:00 PM
Description: Lakers PF/C Pau Gasol is questionable for Tuesday's game against Cleveland. He was diagnosed with a strained big toe earlier this week.
Insight: Since missing a game on Dec 29, Gasol has averaged 19.8 ppg, well above his 15.6 ppg season average.
Kendall Marshall, PGHot1/11/2014 10:06:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Kendall Marshall played through a slight ankle injury Friday night to post a solid stat line - 16 points, four rebounds, 10 assists.
Insight: The 22-year-old will be up and down as youngsters tend to be, but will be useful until the Lakers starting guards get healthy. Marshall is averaging 13.6 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 11.2 apg in five starts.
Kobe Bryant, G1/10/2014 7:02:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guards Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash are hoping to return January 28th against the Pacers. SOURCE: Mike Bresnahan, Los Angeles Times
Insight: Kobe is out with a knee fracture while Nash has been sidlined for two months with back problems. Neither player has been practicing so take this proposed return date with a grain of salt.
Nick Young, G1/8/2014 7:15:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles swingman Nick Young is going to play through a back injury Wednesday night against Houston. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: If you can believe it, Young (16.2 ppg) is actually leading the Lakers in scoring this season. He scored 11 against the Rockets when he played them in November.
Jodie Meeks, GHot1/7/2014 10:57:00 PM
Description: Lakers shooting guard Jodie Meeks has averaged 21.7 ppg in his first three games this month.
Insight: Meeks had 24 points, six assists, four rebounds, four steals and four threes Tuesday at Dallas and is averaging 15.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.2 steals and 2.3 threes over his last 11 games. He should be owned in all leagues.
Kendall Marshall, PGHot1/7/2014 10:55:00 PM
Description: Lakers point guard Kendall Marshall continued to impress with 18 points, six assists, three rebounds and three threes Tuesday at Dallas.
Insight: Los Angeles is way past desperation mode when it comes to its point guard position and has turned to Marshall. The 22-year-old has put up 15.7 points, 12.7 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 threes per game in three contests since he became the starter.
Shawne Williams, F1/7/2014 6:22:00 PM
Description: The Lakers waived forward Shawne Williams on Tuesday.
Insight: Williams averaged 5.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.1 threes per game for Los Angeles this season, not enough to make him a fantasy option.
Xavier Henry, G/F1/6/2014 6:35:00 PM
Description: The timetable for Lakers guard Xavier Henry (knee) has been pushed back from Jan. 9 to either the 13th or 14th, according to Mike Trudell of Lakers.com.
Insight: Henry was expected to step in as Los Angeles' starting point guard with the team's first four options out, but he followed Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Jordan Farmar and Kobe Bryant to the sideline due to a bone bruise in his knee and Kendall Marshall has stepped up.
Pau Gasol, FHot1/4/2014 9:20:00 AM
Description: Lakers PF/C Pau Gasol had 23 points, 17 rebounds, eight assists and three blocks Friday against the Jazz.
Insight: Gasol has averaged 24 ppg over his last two games and 17.7 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 3.6 apg and 1.8 bpg in his last 10.
Kendall Marshall, PG1/4/2014 9:17:00 AM
Description: Lakers point guard Kendall Marshall surprisingly had 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting, 15 assists, six rebounds and two threes in 41 minutes Friday against the Jazz.
Insight: Los Angeles is way past desperation mode when it comes to its point guard position. The Lakers' first five options at PG -- Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Jordan Farmar, Kobe Bryant and Xavier Henry -- are all out. Mike D'Antoni's system has proven to be a major boon for point guards in the past so Marshall should be added in most leagues.
Kendall Marshall, PG1/2/2014 4:37:00 PM
Description: Point guard Kendall Marshall will join the Lakers starting lineup on Friday, according to Mike Trudell of Lakers.com.
Insight: Los Angeles is way past desperation mode when it comes to its point guard position. The Lakers' first five options at PG -- Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Jordan Farmar, Kobe Bryant and Xavier Henry -- are all out. Marshall was the No. 13 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft but he only lasted one season in Phoenix. He's worth an add in deep leagues.
Jordan Farmar, G1/1/2014 5:21:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Jordan Farmar has a tear in his left hamstring and will miss at least four weeks, according to nba.com.
Insight: Farmar suffered a tear in the same hamstring on Dec. 1 and missed nearly a month, but this injury is in a different location. The Lakers will have to turn to D-Leaguer Kendall Marshall at point guard with Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Kobe Bryant, Xavier Henry and Farmar all sidelined.
Chris Kaman, C12/31/2013 2:08:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles center Chris Kaman will play Tuesday against Milwaukee despite a sore ankle. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: He's only averaging 17.6 minutes per game, which isn't nearly enough to make a dent in fantasy. With Pau Gasol also returning on Tuesday, Kaman's going to be riding the pine for the majority of the night.
Wesley Johnson, G/FCold12/31/2013 2:03:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles G/F Wesley Johnson is questionable for Tuesday night's game while he deals with gastroenteritis. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: Nick Young is likely to start in Johnson's place. Since going off for 27 points in last month's win against the Pistons, Johnson has averaged a mere 6.6 ppg on pitiful 37.5 percent shooting. Fantasy owners hoping the Kobe Bryant injury would give Johnson's fantasy value a boost have been disappointed.
Pau Gasol, F12/30/2013 8:30:00 PM
Description: Lakers power forward Pau Gasol practiced fully on Monday and is set to play Tuesday versus the Bucks. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: An upper respiratory infection has caused Gasol to be in and out of the lineup over the past week. It looks like he's finally back to full health and ready to resume his usual workload. Gasol (14.7 ppg, 9.4 rpg) is a double-double threat most nights.
Xavier Henry, G/F12/30/2013 8:25:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles swingman Xavier Henry will be out 7-to-10 days while he deals with a knee issue. SOURCE: Lakers on Twitter
Insight: Henry has a bruise but the real issue is a cartilage abnormality that doctors found in his right knee. The last thing the Lakers need right now is another injury. Sixth man Nick "Swaggy P" Young is going to see tons of playing time while Henry is out.
Pau Gasol, F12/29/2013 6:58:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles forward Pau Gasol will miss his second straight game Sunday against the Sixers. SOURCE: Mike Bresnahan, Los Angeles Times
Insight: He's out with an upper respiratory infection. Shawne Williams will handle things at power forward while Gasol remains sidelined. Fellow big man Chris Kaman hurt his ankle and will be a game-time decision.
Pau Gasol, F12/28/2013 5:03:00 PM
Description: Lakers power forward Pau Gasol (illness) is a game-time decision Saturday against Philadelphia.
Insight: Gasol missed two of the last four games due to an upper respiratory illness. Chris Kaman started in his place Friday and had 19 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks, but he's also a game-time decision Saturday due to an ankle injury.
Pau Gasol, F12/26/2013 6:42:00 PM
Description: Lakers power forward Pau Gasol won't make the trip to Utah for Friday's game. He's out with an upper respiratory infection. SOURCE: Lakers on Twitter
Insight: With Gasol sidelined, the Lakers will feature a starting five of Shawne Williams, Jordan Hill, Jordan Farmar, Jodie Meeks and Wesley Johnson. Even against a Jazz team that is openly tanking, Los Angeles doesn't stand much of a chance. Things haven't been this bad for L.A. in a long time.

Description: Los Angeles guard Jordan Farmar's torn hamstring show it is healed and he is in Wednesday's starting lineup.

Xavier Henry, G12/25/2013 10:10:00 AM
Description: Lakers guard Xavier Henry could lose his starting role as early as Wednesday if Jordan Farmar is ready to go.
Insight: Farmar's last hamstring tests revealed he's healthy and he could return to the lineup Christmas Day. Given the multiple injuries to the Lakers' backcourt, Henry will still see plenty of court time, but he is likely to due that from a substitute role.
Jordan Farmar, G12/24/2013 4:31:00 PM
Description: tests on Los Angeles guard Jordan Farmar's torn hamstring show it is healed and he could play as soon as Wednesday.

Xavier Henry, G12/19/2013 9:01:00 PM
Description: According to latimes.com, the Lakers will turn to Xavier Henry at point guard following Kobe Bryant's knee injury.
Insight: Bryant was playing point guard with Steve Nash (back), Steve Blake (elbow) and Jordan Farmar (hamstring) out, but now he is out for six weeks due to a fractured knee. The 6-foot-6 Henry is averaging 9.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.0 steals but just 1.0 assists in 20 minutes per game this season.
Steve Nash, G12/19/2013 3:58:00 PM
Description: The Lakers announced Thursday that point guard Steve Nash (back) will be out for at least another four weeks. SOURCE: Ramona Shelburne, ESPN Los Angeles
Insight: What a brutal afternoon for the Lakers. First they lose Kobe and now this? The Lakers are 11th out of 15 teams in the Western Conference right now and it's only going to get worse. At this point, L.A.'s best bet might be to trade for a point guard.
Kobe Bryant, G12/19/2013 3:53:00 PM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant has been diagnosed with a fractured left knee. He's out indefinitely.
Insight: Ramona Shelburne of ESPN Los Angeles says he'll be out at least six weeks. It's a devastating blow to a team that was already extremely shorthanded. Things are getting so desperate that Jodie Meeks may have to play point guard Friday against Minnesota.

Pau Gasol, F12/14/2013 4:08:00 PM
Description: ESPN's Marc Stein hears the Lakers are trying to trade Pau Gasol.
Insight: The Lakers have been toying with the idea for years and now that Gasol and head coach Mike D'Antoni have traded barbs through the media, the never-ending Pau saga in Los Angeles may finally be coming to an end. It makes sense for the Lakers since Pau is in the final year of his contract and will likely leave in free agency. There's a good chance Los Angeles would have to eat part of his salary to get a deal done.
Kobe Bryant, GCold12/14/2013 9:21:00 AM
Description: Getting the start at point guard, Kobe Bryant was held to four points on 2-of-6 shooting Friday in a loss to OKC.
Insight: Bryant isn't known for his passing but he did have 13 assists in this one. The six shots he put up were his fewest since March 15th against Indiana. Through three games, the 15-time All-Star is shooting just 38.5 percent from the field. His 11.0 ppg average is his lowest since his rookie season.
Steve Blake, PG12/12/2013 9:19:00 PM

Insight: Bryant had nine points on 2-of-9 shooting, eight rebounds, four assists and eight turnovers Sunday in his return from an Achilles tendon tear. Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant played 28 minutes in his season debut, scoring nine points with eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Insight: Bryant was returning from Achilles tendon surgery. It wasn't a great performance, showing plenty of rust, but it is great to see him back on the court where he belongs.
Kobe Bryant, G12/7/2013 4:15:00 PM
Description: Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni said Saturday that he would be surprised if Kobe Bryant's minutes did not end up in the 20s Sunday, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin.
Insight: Bryant will make his return from an Achilles tendon tear Sunday against the Raptors and the Lakers don't want to push him too hard in his first game back. However, it wouldn't surprise us to see Kobe play closer to 30 minutes than 20.
Steve Nash, G12/7/2013 4:13:00 PM
Description: According to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News, Lakers point guard Steve Nash (back) is doubtful for Sunday's game even though he practiced Saturday.

Sacre can be left on the free agent wire for now.

Description: Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant (Achilles) will not play Friday but he hasn't been ruled out for Sunday's game, according to Mike Trudell of Lakers.com.
Insight: Bryant said he will "probably" have a restriction on his minutes when he gets back in the lineup. He's still working on his explosiveness and said that he isn't "jumping out of the gym" but said he doesn't need to do that to be a good player. Bryant and the Lakers won't offer a definitive return date because the guard needs to see how his body responds to his daily workouts.
Pau Gasol, F12/3/2013 6:32:00 PM
Description: Lakers F/C Pau Gasol expects to suit up Friday against Sacramento. Gasol underwent an MRI on his ankle earlier this week. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, Lakers.com
Insight: Some ankle sprains can be serious but this one sounds pretty mild. Gasol scored 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting when he faced the Kings back in November.
Jordan Farmar, G12/2/2013 9:57:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles guard Jordan Farmar will need the next month to recover from a torn hamstring. SOURCE: Mark Medina, L.A. Daily News
Insight: Steve Blake's minutes will increase but other than that, Farmar's injury shouldn't have a major fantasy impact. With Steve Nash contemplating retirement, the Lakers' point guard situation is in flux and could be for the remainder of the season.
Pau Gasol, F12/2/2013 9:30:00 PM
Description: Pau Gasol's MRI on Monday revealed a mild ankle sprain. SOURCE: Lakers on Twitter
Insight: The sprain is on his right ankle. The diagnosis basically confirms what we already knew. Gasol will have a few days to rest up before the Lakers' next game Friday against Sacramento. There's a chance Los Angeles might be getting Kobe Bryant back for that game.

Description: Los Angeles shooting guard Kobe Bryant won't make his season debut Sunday against Toronto. SOURCE: Mike Trudell, ESPN LA 710

Wesley Johnson, G/F11/30/2013 9:38:00 AM
Description: Lakers G/F Wes Johnson totaled 27 points in Friday night's victory over the Pistons.
Insight: The win pushed Los Angeles over .500 for the first time in almost a month. Johnson (6-of-7 from three-point distance on Friday) prefers to play out on the perimeter so when his three-point shot is falling, watch out. When it's not, he isn't much of a scoring threat.
Chris Kaman, C11/29/2013 11:39:00 AM
Description: Lakers center Chris Kaman is questionable for Friday's game against Detroit due to an ongoing sore back.
Insight: The veteran center has played 12 games this season, starting three, and is averaging just 17 minutes, 8.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. That's not enough to keep you in fantasy lineups if he's in uniform.
Jordan Farmar, GHot11/27/2013 10:44:00 PM
Description: Lakers PG Jordan Farmar has hit 11 threes and averaged 15 points, 5.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds over his last four games.

Nick Young, G11/27/2013 10:42:00 PM
Description: Lakers G/F Nick Young led the team with 26 points on 8-of-16 shooting (4-6 3PT, 6-6 FT) Wednesday at Brooklyn.

Kobe Bryant, G11/26/2013 10:40:00 AM
Description: Lakers guard Kobe Bryant (Achilles) was not part of Tuesday's shootaround and isn't expected to play against the Wizards.
