Description: Baltimore catcher Matt Wieters (ankle) will be out of the lineup until Monday, according to Roch Kubatko of masnsports.com.
Insight: Wieters is still dealing with swelling in his ankle from the sprain he suffered earlier this week and the team is being cautious. The O's backstop has hit 22 or 23 homers in three straight seasons but hit just .235 with a .704 OPS last season. He struggled mightily against right-handed pitchers, batting .214 with 11 home runs and a .628 OPS in 360 at-bats. He hit .282 with 11 homers and an .872 OPS in 163 at-bats against lefties.
Description: Braves catcher Evan Gattis hadn't caught consecutive games this spring until Thursday because he underwent knee surgery in October, according to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Insight: Gattis revealed Friday that he had arthroscopic surgery to remove a bone chip that had been "floating around" in his right knee since 2006. Gattis will be the Braves everyday catcher this season after producing 21 homers and 65 RBI in 105 games as a backup catcher/part-time outfielder last season.
Description: Pittsburgh catcher Russell Martin is on fire this spring, batting .444 with four homers in 18 at-bats.
Insight: Martin exploded out of the gate last season with six April homers, but it was downhill from there. He's swing a hot bat and that might be worth something for the first few weeks this year as well.
Description: Oakland catcher Derek Norris will be out a few days longer to due a tightness in his back.
Insight: That's not good for a guy who has to squat for the next six months. Norris is expected to do the majority of the A's catching this season. He batted .246 with nine homers and 30 RBI in 264 at-bats last season.
Description: San Diego catcher Yasmani Grandal (knee) is not ready to step behind the plate anytime soon, according to the Union-Tribune.
Insight: Grandal had surgery last summer to repair damage to his right ACL and MCL. His side-to-side blocking and stamina have not progressed enough to catch a Cactus League game in the immediate future. The team may still have him ready for Opening Day.
