Milanovich earns CFL's top coach award

Regina, SK (Sports Network) - Scott Milanovich of the 2012 Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts has been selected as the CFL's Coach of the Year for this past season, the league announced on Thursday.

Milanovich received 34-of-45 first-place votes in balloting conducted by the Football Reporters of Canada after directing the Argos to their first league title since 2004.

The 40-year-old also became the first Toronto sideline boss to win three games in a single postseason since 1952, with the Argonauts besting Edmonton and rival Montreal before coming through with a 35-22 victory over Calgary in the 100th Grey Cup on Nov. 25.

Milanovich also guided Toronto to a 9-9 regular-season mark, a three-win improvement from the previous campaign, in his head coaching debut.

"For a coach to do what Scott did in his first season as head coach is simply amazing," CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon remarked.
