Final Score: Pittsburgh 3, NY Rangers 0
Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 23 shots to notch his first shutout of the season, as the Pittsburgh Penguins earned their eighth straight victory with a 3-0 whitewashing of the New York Rangers on Saturday at CONSOL Energy Center.
Fleury's shutout was the 23rd of his career, making him Pittsburgh's all-time leader in shutouts.
"I've been looking forward to this for a while now," Fleury said of setting the franchise record. "I'm definitely happy to get it."
Beau Bennett, Tyler Kennedy and Pascal Dupuis each scored once for the Penguins, who have won the last seven meetings with the Rangers, including all three this season.
Henrik Lundqvist allowed all three goals on 27 shots in the setback, New York's third in a row and fourth in its last five games.
"Unfortunately we can't find our offense now," New York defenseman Dan Girardi admitted. "I don't think it's a lack of confidence, we just need to find a way. We have to just keep trying to make plays and get offensive zone pressure."
Pittsburgh opened the scoring just 90 seconds in when Kennedy's chip from the neutral zone off the right boards found the stick of Bennett in the right circle and the Pittsburgh winger rifled a quick wrister that beat Lundqvist stick side for a 1-0 lead at the 1:30 mark.
After a scoreless second stanza, Pittsburgh padded its lead with a pair of tallies just 43 seconds apart in the final frame.
The first came at the 6:34 mark with the Pens on the power play, as Kris Letang slid a pass from the high slot to the bottom of the left circle for Kennedy, who one-timed a blast that rang off the far post and deflected it.
Under a minute later, Dustin Jeffrey and Dupuis charged in on a 2-on-1, with Jeffery firing a pass from the left circle to the low right side for Dupuis, who lifted a backhander over a sprawling Lundqvist for a 3-0 edge.
Fleury secured his record-setting shutout by stopping all nine shots he faced over the final 20 minutes.
New York fell to 4-7-1 on the road, while Pittsburgh improved to 9-4-0 at home ... Fleury broke Tom Barrasso's mark of 22 career shutouts with the Pens ... Jeffrey finished with two assists ... Pittsburgh went 1-for-3 on the power play, while New York failed on both of its attempts with the man advantage.
