Rangers reach deal with Zuccarello

New York, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Rangers avoided arbitration with forward Mats Zuccarello by agreeing to terms with the restricted free agent on a reported one-year contract on Tuesday.

TSN of Canada stated that Zuccarello, whose arbitration hearing had been scheduled for Wednesday, will earn $1.15 million for the upcoming season.

Zuccarello had three goals and five assists while recording a plus-10 rating in 15 regular-season games with the Rangers during the lockout-shortened 2013 campaign, then tallied a goal and six helpers over 12 playoff contests.

The 25-year-old Norwegian began last season with Magnitogorsk Metallurg of Russia'a Kontinental Hockey League before re-joining the Rangers in late March.

Zuccarello initially signed with New York in 2010 and registered six goals and 17 assists over 42 games as a rookie with the Blueshirts in 2010-11. In 67 overall games at the NHL level, the diminutive wing has posted 11 goals, 23 assists and a plus-13 rating.
