Description: 49ers running back Marcus Lattimore will be the No. 3 running back during the second half of the season according to CSN Bay Area.
Insight: Lattimore is supposed to return to practice in Week 7. He will not be pushed into the lineup right away, but if he continues to progress, Lattimore has a great shot to overtake rookie Bruce Ellington for the No. 3 back.

Insight: Lattimore had 2,677 rushing yards and 38 rushing touchdowns in three years at South Carolina but suffered the catastrophic knee injury in October 2012. The 49ers took a chance on him with a fourth-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Lattimore is expected to compete for a job as Frank Gore's backup this season.

Description: The 49ers 2013 fourth-round draft pick, running back Marcus Lattimore (ACL, MCL), has already been put on the PUP list, but appears to be well ahead of schedule, according to a Yahoo Sports report.
Insight: The 49ers selected the most talented back in the draft for a couple of years down the road since many doctors didn't think he'd even be walking for a year. He's apparently already running, though he will not be ready to practice at the 49ers camp opening. He's another Dr. James Andrews miracle.

Description: South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore (knee) worked out for reps of all the teams on Wednesday and he impressed most of them, according to USAToday reporter Robert Klemko.
Insight: Lattimore has the talent to be a difference maker, but is coming off a second knee injury and will be a gamble for any teams that selects him. While he probably won't be ready for Week 1, he says he'll play in the first half of the season. If Lattimore gets a chance to play, he could end up being an exciting fantasy player, but the risk factor is off the charts.
