MLB Game Summary - Toronto at Arizona

(Tuesday, September 3rd)

Final Score: Toronto 10, Arizona 4

Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Four Blue Jays home runs more than delivered another blow to Arizona's faint playoff hopes, as Toronto rocked the Diamondbacks, 10-4, at Chase Field.

Rajai Davis and Moises Sierra belted two-run homers, while Edwin Encarnacion and a pinch-hitting Adam Lind added solo shots.

Sierra also doubled twice to match Encarnacion and Jose Reyes with three hits for the Blue Jays, who have won seven of their last nine games. Toronto starter Todd Redmond (3-2) allowed homers to Didi Gregorius and Adam Eaton among four hits over five innings.

Miguel Montero also homered for the Diamondbacks, who are eight games behind Cincinnati for the second wild-card spot.

Arizona starter Wade Miley (9-10) failed to make it through two innings. He was tagged for five runs on eight hits and walked two while recording only five outs.

"Thye just kept hitting the ball and putting it in play," said Miley. "I made a couple mistakes later on, started walking guys. That was on me."

The Diamondbacks fell into an early 5-0 hole, but were able to draw within 6-4 on Montero's leadoff homer in the seventh. However, for the second consecutive inning, the Blue Jays turned a double play to thwart Arizona's advance.

Toronto then pulled away again via the long ball. Encarnacion went deep in the eighth before Lind and Sierra circled the bases in the ninth.

Brett Lawrie hit an RBI single in the first for Toronto and capped a four-run second with another run-scoring base hit. Davis had homered two batters earlier.

Redmond was perfect the first time through the lineup, but he surrendered a leadoff homer to Eaton in the fourth. Gregorius' two-run blast closed the gap to 6-3 an inning later.

Game Notes

The Blue Jays were 5-for-15 with runners in scoring position ... Toronto won its first road series since Aug. 5-7 at Seattle.
