Final Score: Los Angeles 8, Arizona 6
Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Dee Gordon stole four bases and scored a run in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 8-6 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Adrian Gonzalez hit a three-run homer and scored twice for the Dodgers, who recorded their second sweep of the 2014 season following their season-opening two-game sweep over Arizona in Australia. Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to nine games.
Juan Uribe and Matt Kemp also homered for Los Angeles, which improved to 7-1 on the road this season. Hanley Ramirez and Andre Ethier had an RBI apiece.
"He's walking and he's getting his hits. That's what really changes the dynamic," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said of Gordon.
Dan Haren (2-0) got the start for the Dodgers and allowed three runs on nine hits with five strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings. Haren, who pitched two-plus seasons in Arizona, improved to 3-1 against his former team.
Mark Trumbo hit a three-run homer for the Diamondbacks, who fell to 4-11. Eric Chavez added a solo homer
Arizona starter Trevor Cahill (0-4) gave up seven runs -- six earned -- on five hits while striking out eight and walking five over four-plus innings.
The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead on Kemp's homer in the second inning.
Los Angeles tacked on four more runs in the third. Gordon walked and stole second and third before Yasiel Puig worked a walk. Ramirez followed with a high chopper back to Cahill that allowed Gordon to score. Gonzalez then cleared the wall in right to make it a 5-0 contest.
"It was just the walks that killed me," Cahill said. "I made a mistake and Adrian has been swinging it good this year. I kind of got away from the game plan with him and left a pitch down and in and right in the sweet spot."
The Diamondbacks got three runs back in the bottom half of the frame. Gerardo Parra led off with a double and raced home on Aaron Hill's triple to left- center field. Paul Goldschmidt's RBI groundout and Chavez's solo homer cut the gap to two.
The Dodgers scored a pair of runs in the fifth. With men on second and third with one out, Ethier hit a grounder to first baseman Goldschmidt, who failed to field the ball cleanly. Ramirez and Gonzalez both scored on the play, making it 7-3.
Uribe hit a solo homer in the seventh, but Trumbo responded with a three-run shot in the bottom half.
Kenley Jansen tossed a perfect ninth for his fourth save of the season.
Cahill fell to 6-2 lifetime against Los Angeles ... The 7-1 start by LA away from home is the club's best road start since going 7-1 in 1983 ... Arizona went 2-for-16 with runners in scoring position and stranded nine ... Gonzalez homered for the fourth consecutive game ... Gordon has nine steals this season.
