New Orleans Saints Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Travaris Cadet, RB10/21/2014 10:31:00 AM
Description: Saints running back Travaris Cadet could see addition work for the next few games with Pierre Thomas sidelined.
Insight: Cadet would likely pick up the receiving work out of the backfield. mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson will continue to man the running game.
Pierre Thomas, RB10/21/2014 10:28:00 AM
Description: Saints running back Pierre Thomas left Sunday's game against Detroit with a shoulder injury, and he's expected to miss 2-3 games.
Insight: With Mark Ingram back and Khiry Robinson playing well the running game is taken care of, but Travaris Cadet will probably pick up the receiving work.
Jimmy Graham, TE10/19/2014 7:21:00 PM
Description: Saints tight end Jimmy Graham did not catch a pass against the Lions in Week 7.
Insight: Graham played just 30 snaps due to his shoulder injury. Drew Brees targeted him twice, and Graham caught neither. The good news is he did not appear to suffer any setbacks.
Marques Colston, WR10/19/2014 7:17:00 PM
Description: Saints wide receiver Marques Colston led the team in catches, receiving yards and targets in Week 7 against the Lions.
Insight: Colston had six catches for 111 yards on 10 targets. He did not score, but fantasy owners will still take the production if Colston was in the lineup.
Mark Ingram, RB10/19/2014 7:13:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Mark Ingram led the team with 10 carries but only gained 16 yards.
Insight: It was Ingram's first game back from his injury, but it was a big disappointment. Many speculated Khiry Robinson would be involved just as much as Ingram was. That wasn't the case as Robinson only had three carries, but Ingram, obviously, did not take advantage.
Drew Brees, QB10/19/2014 7:09:00 PM
Description: Saints quarterback Drew Brees is still not performing up to his standards.
Insight: It is a little bit unfair because the expectations for Brees are sky-high. That being said, owners expect a first-round quarterback to perform at a very high level. Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers have turned it around after slow starts, but Brees has not. Brees was 28-for-45 with 342 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Jimmy Graham, TE10/19/2014 9:57:00 AM
Description: Saints tight end Jimmy Graham plans to play in Week 7 against the Lions according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Insight: Graham plans to test out his shoulder to make sure. He will have a limited role, likely playing in red zone packages. The Saints used Graham the same way for a few games last year, and he still managed to lead the NFL with 16 receiving touchdowns. Graham is still a must-start.
Jimmy Graham, TE10/17/2014 3:42:00 PM
Description: Saints tight end Jimmy Graham isn't sounding optimistic about his chances of playing Sunday.
Insight: Graham was expected to miss a couple of weeks with his shoulder injury, but is hoping it will get better by Sunday pre-game. Our best guess is that Ben Watson will be the Saints starter come kickoff.
Jimmy Graham, TE10/16/2014 3:30:00 PM
Description: Saints coach Sean Payton insists he's optimistic that tight end Jimmy Graham might play in Week 7.
Insight: Sounds a bit like the A.J. Green situation with the coach playing games with the defensive coordinator. Graham was expected to miss a couple of weeks with his shoulder injury.
Mark Ingram, RB10/15/2014 4:29:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Mark Ingram told ESPN that he is ready to go in Week 7.
Insight: Ingram has been fully practicing this week. We expect him to get 12-15 carries this Sunday against Detroit, but the stout Lions defense keeps Ingram a low-end RB2 or FLEX play in his first weekend back.
Kenny Stills, WRCold10/15/2014 8:03:00 AM
Description: Saints receiver Kenny Stills has become a non-factor this season.
Insight: Rookie wide receiver Brandin Cooks is the third receiver with Marques Colston and Jimmy Graham. Stills might see increased usage while Graham is sidelined, but its not likely to be enough to make him fantasy worthy.
Brandin Cooks, WR10/15/2014 7:59:00 AM
Description: Saints rookie wideout Brandin Cooks hasn't turned his targets into much fantasy production.
Insight: After an opening day seven-catch, 77-yard, one touchdown performance, Cooks has failed to return to the end zone. He did have nine catches against Tampa Bay in Week 5, but for just 56 yards. He's seeing a lot of short passes and has yet to break out with a big run after catch.
Mark Ingram, RB10/14/2014 3:15:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Mark Ingram should regain his starting spot in Week 7, but may share more time with Khiry Robinson than in the past.
Insight: Robinson ran well while Ingram was sidelined and has earned playing time. throw in Pierre Thomas and the three-way split likely makes them all candidates for your fantasy bench.
Jimmy Graham, TE10/12/2014 11:22:00 AM
Description: Saints tight end Jimmy Graham could miss 2-3 weeks, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Insight: Graham and the Saints have a bye this weekend, so this won't change lineups in Week 6, but fantasy owners should make plans to be without their start tight end for a couple of weeks.
Mark Ingram, RB10/11/2014 10:10:00 AM
Description: Saints running back Mark Ingram will move slowly back into his starting role.
Insight: Ingram is hoping to return in Week 7 after the Saints bye this weekend, but with the emergence of Khiry Robinson, New Orleans has the luxury of not rushing Ingram back into the feature role. Once Ingram does regain the starting position, Robinson is also expected to be more involved than he was before Ingram's injury.
Tom Crabtree, TE10/9/2014 1:13:00 PM
Description: The Saints signed Tom Crabtree.
Insight: Its purely an insurance policy in case Jimmy Graham isn't ready, though with a bye week that isn't likely. Crabtree has no fantasy value.
Mark Ingram, RB10/6/2014 3:18:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Mark Ingram is still targeting Week 7 for his return.
Insight: Ingram was producing solid fantasy numbers while sharing time with Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson. Robinson has played well in his absence, but should return to a backup role when Ingram is ready to play.
Drew Brees, QB10/5/2014 6:41:00 PM
Description: Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw the ball 57 times for 371 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.
Insight: The three interceptions certainly put a damper on Brees' day, but the quarterback was able to bring the Saints back from a 11-point deficit in what really was a must-win against Tampa Bay. Brees was also able to overcome losing his favorite target Jimmy Graham.
Khiry Robinson, RB10/5/2014 6:31:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Khiry Robinson rushed 21 times for 89 yards and the winning touchdown against the Buccaneers as New Orleans defeated Tampa Bay, 37-31, in overtime on Sunday.
Insight: New Orleans had to erase a 11-point deficit to avoid falling to 1-4. This was by far Robinson's heaviest workload so far this year, and that could continue with Mark Ingram out at least a few more weeks.
Jimmy Graham, TE10/5/2014 2:10:00 PM
Description: Saints tight end Jimmy Graham has gone to the sidelines and is having his shoulder looked over.
Insight: Graham was quiet last week and has two catches for 36 yards so far in this one, but is in the locker room. His return is questionable.
Jairus Byrd, S10/3/2014 4:12:00 PM
Description: New Orleans free safety Jairus Byrd has suffered a season-ending injury (torn lateral meniscus) and was placed on injured reserve.
Insight: He signed a six-year deal with the Saints back in March. This is a big loss for New Orleans who will use Rafael Bush in his place.
Drew Brees, QB9/29/2014 10:59:00 AM
Description: Saints quarterback Drew Brees was missing in action for the first three quarters but filled up the box score in the fourth quarter enough to satisfy fantasy owners.
Insight: He was 32-of-44 for 340 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Jimmy Graham and Marques Colston were his two primary targets.
Jimmy Graham, TE9/29/2014 10:59:00 AM
Description: Saints tight end Jimmy Graham had quiet game, but woke up in the fourth quarter to produce double-digits for fantasy owners.
Insight: By then the game was already over, but Graham did catch eight of 11 targets for 86 yards and a touchdown.
Khiry Robinson, RB9/29/2014 10:57:00 AM
Description: Saints running back Khiry Robinson (87 yards) was held in check for most of the night, but did explode for a 62-yard run.
Insight: He received the bulk of the rushes, as Pierre Thomas was given only two carries.
Jimmy Graham, TE9/21/2014 6:07:00 PM
Description: Saints tight end Jimmy Graham has quiet game.
Insight: He did not find the endzone, and only had 54 receiving yards. Graham did have six catches on eight targets, and he will continue to be the top ranked fantasy tight end, as the season progresses.
Brandin Cooks, WR9/21/2014 6:04:00 PM
Description: Saints rookie wideout Brandin Cooks leads team in receiving during Week 3.
Insight: He was Brees' favorite target this week, with 10 of them. Cooks finished the day with eight cacthes for 74 yards. He outshined fellow wide reciever Marrques Colston, who had only two catches for 25 yards, but did find the endzone. Cooks is a WR3 moving forward.
Khiry Robinson, RB9/21/2014 6:01:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Khiry Robinson finishes with 18 carries in Week 3.
Insight: He received the bulk of the rushes, as Pierre Thomas was given only eight carries. However, Thomas vultured a one-yard touchdown. Robinson did finish with 69 yards, and looks like the back who will receive the majority of carries moving forward.
Drew Brees, QB9/21/2014 5:58:00 PM
Description: Saints quarterback Drew Brees leads team to first win of season.
Insight: He was 27-of-35 for 293 yards and two touchdowns. Brees was in fine form, spreading the ball around and totaling a 120.3 passer rating.
Pierre Thomas, RB9/19/2014 5:35:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Pierre Thomas left Sunday's game against Detroit with a shoulder injury.
Insight: With Mark Ingram back, this isn't a big loss for the Saints, but it is for his fantasy owners. Travis Cadet could be used in a receiving role with Ingram and Khiry Robinson the runners.
Pierre Thomas, RB9/16/2014 4:32:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Pierre Thomas has yet to produce from a fantasy perspective in 2014.
Insight: With Mark Ingram going down, Thomas should now see a ton of touches, especially in the passing game. With the Saints 0-2, and coming home, expect Thomas to be involved in the screen game, as well as finally beginning to put some solid fantasy numbers together.
Brandin Cooks, WR9/16/2014 4:29:00 PM
Description: After breaking loose during Week 1, Saints receiver Brandin Cooks came down to earth against Cleveland on Sunday.
Insight: He had only two catches for 31 yards in Sunday's loss. With the Saints a notoriously better home team, Cooks has great potential to have a big game in Week 3. He will be a WR3 this coming week against the Vikings.
Khiry Robinson, RB9/16/2014 4:25:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Khiry Robinson figures to see more touches with the injury to Mark Ingram.
Insight: After finding the end zone in Week 1, Robinson was held in check Sunday against the Browns. He will most likely lead the team in carries during Ingram's absence, but will not be a major target for receptions. Robinson is a RB3/4 for now.
Drew Brees, QBCold9/16/2014 10:15:00 AM
Description: Saints quarterback Drew Brees couldn't do much against the Cleveland Browns pass defense, throwing for just 237 yards.
Insight: Brees looks completely healthy, but had trouble getting the ball to his wide receivers, instead settling for his running backs and tight ends. Marques Colston was shut out and the other wideouts caught nine balls for just 79 yards.
Marques Colston, WRCold9/15/2014 1:30:00 PM
Description: No, Saints wideout Marques Colston wasn't injured Sunday when he failed to catch a pass for the first time in 87 games.
Insight: Colston was out there for 41-of-70 plays, but was blanketed by the Browns defense and didn't even see even a single target from Drew Brees.
Mark Ingram, RB9/15/2014 1:08:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Mark Ingram, who rushed 11 times for 83 yards and a touchdown against the Browns in Week 2, will miss about a month due to a hand injury, according to Adam Schefter.
Insight: Ingram was producing solid fantasy numbers while sharing time with Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson. Robinson figured to do most of the running with Thomas as the pass receiver for the next month. it will be interesting to see which one gets the most work and has the most fantasy value.
Mark Ingram, RB9/14/2014 6:02:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Mark Ingram rushed 11 times for 83 yards and a touchdown against the Browns in Week 2.
Insight: Similar to Graham, Ingram was not featured early on in the game, but after some struggles on offense, Sean Payton turned to Ingram. The running back rushed eight times for 39 yards and a touchdown in the second half. After two weeks, he looks like the best Saints back to have on your fantasy team.
Jimmy Graham, TE9/14/2014 5:57:00 PM
Description: Saints tight end Jimmy Graham had 10 catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns in Week 2 against the Browns.
Insight: Graham was quiet early in the game, but Drew Brees began finding Graham towards the end of the first half. Graham again led New Orleans with 13 targets, which was more than twice as many as anyone else.
Kenny Stills, WR9/7/2014 12:09:00 PM
Description: Saints receiver Kenny Stills (quad) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Falcons.
Insight: Rookie wide receiver Brandin Cooks should see more extensive action on Sunday. Jimmy Graham and Marques Colston are the other top targets to have in the Saints offense that could explode against the Falcons defense.
Kenny Stills, WR9/6/2014 4:12:00 PM
Description: Saints receiver Kenny Stills (quad) was downgraded to out for the season opener against Atlanta, according to the team's website.
Insight: This was expected, but the early announcement makes Week 2 a question mark as well. Brandin Cooks and Joe Morgan should see more targets.
Kenny Stills, WR9/4/2014 4:29:00 PM
Description: Saints receiver Kenny Stills (quad) was downgraded to "DNP" on Thursday.
Insight: Stills was limited in practice on Wednesday and New Orelans signed receiver Robert Meachem. All signs point to Stills being inactive on Sunday against the Falcons.
Shayne Graham, K8/30/2014 9:13:00 PM
Description: Those hoping to cash in on the Saints high-powered offense by selecting kicker Shayne Graham have been left without a place-kicker for Week 1 as New Orleans cut Graham along with backup Derek Dimke.
Insight: The Saints will hunt the waiver wire for a kicker heading into Week 1 which leaves fantasy owners up in the air. The good news for New Orleans is there are plenty of veterans out there looking for work.
Drew Brees, QB8/23/2014 9:22:00 PM
Description: In his preseason debut, Saints quarterback Drew Brees completed 9-of-15 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns in one quarter against the Colts on Saturday.
Insight: Brees looks completely healthy and ready to wreak havoc on the NFL this season. He found Jimmy Graham for a 38-yard touchdown and then Marques Colston for a 13-yard score. With the elite weapons he has again on offense, Brees could lead fantasy quarterbacks in scoring this season.
Pierre Thomas, RB8/21/2014 10:42:00 AM
Description: Saints running back Pierre Thomas will have a different role this season according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson are both ahead of Thomas on the depth chart, but Thomas expects to be more involved in the passing game.
Insight: Darren Sproles and Lance Moore are both gone, so hypothetically, Thomas could see more passes come his way along with possibly being the third down back. But the soon to be 30-year-old already caught 77 passes and carried the ball 147 times in 2013. Will his touches really go up when he averaged a career-low 6.7 yards per catch and 3.7 yards per carry last year? Doubt it.
Mark Ingram, RB8/19/2014 8:52:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Mark Ingram is hoping to be more involved in the passing game this season, according to ESPN.com. "I hope so. I want to do everything. I want to be involved in the pass game, run game, picking up pass (protection). I want to be the most versatile player I can be," Ingram said. "The majority of the time, if you just watch the film, most of the teams think when I'm in the game it's either gonna be a run or play-action or something like that. ... I know I'm an all-purpose back, a complete back. I can do everything."
Insight: Darren Sproles, who caught 71 passes on 89 targets last season, was traded to the Eagles this offseason. Ingram has caught 24 passes in 37 career NFL games, but he had a receiving touchdown in Friday's preseason game and caught two passes during a two-minute drill simulation Monday. The Saints are expected to mix Ingram, Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson this season, so all three will have limited fantasy value.
Brandin Cooks, WR8/19/2014 11:43:00 AM
Description: Saints receiver Brandin Cooks missed Monday's practice but fantasy owners have no need to worry.
Insight: Cooks is dealing with a stomach virus and fever - no injury. We're looking for solid production from Cooks in his rookie season. He's got a great QB under center and 143 available targets with Lance Moore and Darren Sproles gone.
Drew Brees, QB8/17/2014 6:56:00 PM
Description: Saints quarterback Drew Brees (oblique) is back at practice, according to Larry Holder of The Times-Picayune.
Insight: Brees missed some time due to the injury, but was never in danger of missing the season opener. Friday. TSN's projection have Brees throwing for 5,284 yards, 40 TDs and 13 interceptions. Only Peyton Manning can rival those numbers.
Brandin Cooks, WR8/11/2014 9:50:00 PM
Description: According to Mike Triplett of ESPN.com, Saints receiver Brandin Cooks "makes one or two of the biggest plays on the practice field every day."
Insight: Cooks caught five passes for 55 yards and a touchdown on eight targets in the first preseason game and could be an immediate fantasy asset in New Orleans' offense. The departures of Darren Sproles and Lance Moore have opened up 143 targets from last year. Cooks' ADP has risen from 94 to 74 since the start of August.
Drew Brees, QB8/11/2014 9:49:00 PM
Description: Saints quarterback Drew Brees (oblique) is still dealing with a strained oblique.
Insight: He's unlikely to play in the second preseason game Friday. Brees should be fine for the regular season, but we'd like him to get reps with rookie receiver Brandin Cooks.
Pierre Thomas, RB8/10/2014 9:19:00 PM
Description: Katherine Terrell of NOLA.com says that Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson have moved ahead of Pierre Thomas in the Saints' running back pecking order.
Insight: Thomas missed the first preseason game for unspecified reasons and has been taking snaps with the second team while Ingram and Robinson rotate with the first team. Thomas had 1,062 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns on 224 touches (147 carries, 77 receptions) last season. With Darren Sproles gone Thomas is a good bet to catch 70+ passes again, but he'll see fewer carries.
Brandin Cooks, WR8/3/2014 10:39:00 AM
Description: Saints rookie receiver Brandin Cooks has been getting rave reviews and unofficially caught six balls, including a touchdown pass, in the team's intrasquad game Saturday.
Insight: Cooks ADP has risen to 93.1 in fantasyfootballcalculator.com mock drafts, 37th among receivers, but if quarterback Drew Brees is confident in his abilities then he could be a huge bargain. The Saints have 143 targets available with the loss of Darren Sproles and Lance Moore.
Drew Brees, QB8/2/2014 1:25:00 PM
Description: Saints quarterback Drew Brees sat out Saturday's scrimmage with a strained left oblique, according to a New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Insight: It's not supposed to be serious, but any time spent sitting on the sidelines is less time to work with young receivers like Brandin Cooks and Kenny Stills.
Kenny Stills, WR8/1/2014 10:58:00 AM
Description: New Orleans receiver Kenny Stills has missed a week's worth of practice with a quad injury.
Insight: Stills caught 32 balls for 641 yards and five touchdowns last season and fantasy owners are looking for a jump in production with Lance Moore and Darren Sproles gone. His absence will allow rookie Brandin Cooks more playing time and could end up hurting his totals.
Jimmy Graham, TE7/15/2014 10:52:00 AM
Description: The Saints and tight end Jimmy Graham have come to an agreement on a four-year deal.
Insight: His fantasy owners can relax now as the tight end won't have to hold out. He's the highest paid tight end which is right for the best tight end in football. Even at less than 100 percent he caught 86 balls for 1,215 yards and a league-leading 16 TDs last season. Hard as it may be to believe, those numbers could rise in 2014.
Jimmy Graham, TE7/2/2014 4:05:00 PM
Description: An arbitrator has ruled that the Saints can franchise tag Jimmy Graham as a tight end.
Insight: Graham took 67 percent of his snaps last season from out wide or in the slot and wide receivers who are tagged receive $5.277 million more than tight ends. Fantasy owners should be happy with the ruling, as Graham will now definitely retain his precious tight-end eligibility.
Brandin Cooks, WR6/18/2014 9:22:00 PM
Description: Saints rookie receiver Brandin Cooks has been getting rave reviews and unofficially caught six balls, including a touchdown pass, in the team's intrasquad game Saturday.
Insight: Cooks ADP has risen to 93.1 in fantasyfootballcalculator.com mock drafts, 37th among receivers, but if quarterback Drew Brees is confident in his abilities then he could be a huge bargain. The Saints have 143 targets available with the loss of Darren Sproles and Lance Moore.
Jairus Byrd, S5/29/2014 8:30:00 PM
Description: New Orleans free safety Jairus Byrd underwent back surgery on Thursday. SOURCE: Katherine Terrell, New Orleans Times-Picayune
Insight: It's only a minor procedure and he should be ready for the start of training camp in a couple months. Since making his debut with Buffalo in 2009, Byrd has 356 tackles, 22 interceptions and 11 forced fumbles. He signed a six-year deal with the Saints back in March.
Brandin Cooks, WR5/9/2014 10:27:00 AM
Description: The Saints added another weapon to their offense Thursday by taking Oregon State wide receiver Brandin Cooks with the 20th pick in the draft.
Insight: Cooks won the Biletnikoff Award as college football's top receiver last season. He may be a bit undersized at 5-foot-10, but Cooks' 4.33 40 time was one of the fastest at this year's combine. With Drew Brees throwing to him, Cooks has tremendous fantasy upside.
Jimmy Graham, TE5/7/2014 9:19:00 PM
Description: The NFL Players Association has officially filed a grievance against the Saints on Jimmy Graham's behalf. SOURCE: Tom Pelissero, USA Today
Insight: Graham wasn't happy about being franchise-tagged as a tight end when he felt he deserved to be paid like a wide receiver. Graham actually has a valid argument as 67 percent of his snaps last season came out wide or in the slot. Wide receivers who are tagged receive $5.277 million more than tight ends.
Robert Meachem, WR4/18/2014 9:19:00 PM
Description: The Saints have brought Robert Meachem back on a one-year contract.
Insight: Meachem was basically invisible last season, hauling in just 16 catches for 324 yards over 15 games. He's not on the fantasy radar.
Champ Bailey, CB4/4/2014 8:48:00 PM
Description: Former Redskins and Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey has agreed to a two-year deal with New Orleans. SOURCE: Mike Triplett, ESPN
Insight: The contract carries a maximum value of $7 million. Injuries limited Bailey to five games last season. He's third among active players with 52 career interceptions.
Marques Colston, WR3/26/2014 2:59:00 PM
Description: Saints wideout Marques Colston dealt with foot soreness throughout last season and the team will monitor his practice time during the 2014 season, coach Sean Payton said. SOURCE: Larry Holder, nola.com
Insight: Colston was disappointing for most of the year but was very good in the last four weeks, putting up 28 receptions for 347 yards and three touchdowns to finish with 75 catches, 943 yards and five TDs. The soon-to-be 31-year-old should be drafted as a WR3 at best in 2014.
Erik Lorig, FB3/18/2014 12:30:00 PM
Description: The Saints have signed fullback Erik Lorig, who has played the last four seasons in Tampa Bay.
Insight: Lorig had zero rushing attempts over those four seasons and won't carry the ball in New Orleans. He has 30 career receptions for 193 yards and will have little-to-no fantasy value going forward.
Darren Sproles, RB3/13/2014 9:43:00 AM
Description: Former Saints running back Darren Sproles has been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for a fifth-round selection according to multiple sources.
Insight: Sproles, who will be 31 in June, will be a tough matchup for the opposition, though he probably won't spend as much time in the backfield as he did in New Orleans because of workhorse LeSean McCoy. He had 1,273 all-purpose yards last season. His best fantasy value will be in league which include return yardage.
Pierre Thomas, RB3/12/2014 12:00:00 PM
Description: New Orleans halfback Pierre Thomas has agreed to two-year contract extension. SOURCE: Lamont Smith, All Pro Sports Entertainment
Insight: Thomas netted 1,074 all-purpose yards last season including a career-high 513 receiving yards. He should have an even bigger role in the Saints' offense now that Darren Sproles is on the trading block.
Jairus Byrd, S3/11/2014 9:33:00 PM
Description: Free safety Jairus Byrd has agreed to a six-year, $54 million deal with New Orleans. SOURCE: Larry Holder, New Orleans Times-Picayune
Insight: Byrd has been named an All-Pro each of the last three seasons with 12 interceptions and 222 tackles over that span. The Saints' defense just got a lot harder to score on.
Darren Sproles, RB3/11/2014 7:41:00 PM
Description: The Saints have decided not to release Darren Sproles and will instead try to trade him. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Why give Sproles away for free if everyone wants him? That seems to be the Saints' line of thinking. Even at age 30, Sproles (1,273 all-purpose yards in 2013) still has plenty to offer fantasy owners.
Khiry Robinson, RB3/8/2014 12:02:00 PM
Description: Saints backup running back Khiry Robinson figures to be a big contributor next season after the team sent Darren Sproles packing and is expected to do the same with veteran Pierre Thomas.
Insight: They will be taking a huge gamble on an unproven talent (Robinson) and a frequently injured former first-round selection (Mark Ingram), but money issues in New Orleans seem to be determining these moves.
Darren Sproles, RB3/7/2014 7:13:00 PM
Description: Multiple sources are reporting that running back Darren Sproles will be released by the Saints.
Insight: Sproles said his goodbyes on Twitter just a few minutes ago. It's a cost-cutting move for the Saints as Sproles is slated to earn $3.5 million next season. He's been a jack of all trades, catching 231 passes and rushing 188 times for 1,067 yards in his last three seasons. He's also returned 81 punts and 70 kickoffs over that same span.
Lance Moore, WR3/7/2014 3:47:00 PM
Description: New Orleans has released wide receiver Lance Moore.
Insight: Moore produced nothing in the way of trade interest because of a sizable salary, so the team let him go. He was always a Drew Brees favorite in crunch-time, but the Saints have a number of young talented receivers on their roster. Kenny Stills, in particular, could be primed for a big season.
Darren Sproles, RB3/6/2014 7:04:00 PM
Description: Darren Sproles is one of several players the Saints could be willing to trade this offseason. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Pierre Thomas and Lance Moore could also be moved. Sproles (71 catches, 604 receiving yards last season) is an elite PPR running back but only average in leagues that use standard scoring.
Jimmy Graham, TE3/4/2014 7:26:00 PM
Description: The Saints and Jimmy Graham are at odds over the team's decision to give him the franchise tag. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL Network
Insight: It sounds like we may have a holdout on our hands. As unhappy as Graham is about his current contract situation, he doesn't have much leverage. Graham will likely contend that he should be tagged as a wide receiver, though it's unlikely he'll win that argument.
Jimmy Graham, TE3/1/2014 6:44:00 PM
Description: New Orleans will use its franchise tag on tight end Jimmy Graham. SOURCE: Chris Mortensen, ESPN
Insight: The tag is non-exclusive which means that for the price of two first-round picks, another team could sign him. Of course, the Saints could always just match the offer. Tight ends who are franchised will earn $7.035 million in 2014.
Shayne Graham, K2/15/2014 4:08:00 PM
Description: The Saints re-signed kicker Shayne Graham to a one-year deal on Saturday.
Insight: Graham went 6-for-8 on field goal attempts last season including the playoffs. He'll always be a fantasy candidate as long as he's on the high-scoring Saints.
Jimmy Graham, TE1/25/2014 11:27:00 AM
Description: New Orleans tight end Jimmy Graham does not want the Saints to give him the franchise tag when he becomes a free agent this offseason. SOURCE: ESPN
Insight: Graham sees the writing on the wall and he doesn't like it. The All-Pro tight end is almost guaranteed to get the tag, which will pay him $6 million next season. Though that's way more than he's earning now ($1.323 million), Graham would certainly get more than $6 million as a free agent. Graham and his agent will argue that he's actually a wide receiver because it comes with a $10.5 million tag, but Jared Cook made that same argument last season and didn't get very far.
Pierre Thomas, RB1/11/2014 3:36:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Pierre Thomas (chest) will miss Saturday's divisional playoff game against the Seahawks.
Insight: Thomas sat out New Orleans' first playoff game last Saturday at Philadelphia, but the Saints still ran the ball 36 times for 185 yards. Mark Ingram led the way with 18 carries for 97 rushing yards and a touchdown, Khiry Robinson added 45 rushing yards on eight carries and Darren Sproles produced 60 total yards on eight touches.
Pierre Thomas, RB1/9/2014 8:56:00 PM
Description: Updating a previous item, New Orleans halfback Pierre Thomas was back at practice on Thursday. Thomas missed Saturday's win over Philadelphia because of a chest injury. SOURCE: Larry Holder, New Orleans Times-Picayune
Insight: Thomas practiced in a limited capacity. Mark Ingram is expected to start if Thomas can't go Saturday against the Seahawks.
Keenan Lewis, CB1/9/2014 10:42:00 AM
Description: Saints defensive back Keenan Lewis, who left Saturday's game with a possible concussion, practiced in full Wednesday.
Insight: Lewis argued vehemently to return to the game, but doctors wouldn't let him. Looks like he wasn't injured enough to keep him out of this week's game with Seattle. He's the team's best cover corner.
Pierre Thomas, RB1/9/2014 10:39:00 AM
Description: Saints running back Pierre Thomas (chest) missed Saturday's playoff game at Philadelphia and an ESPN report is calling him a "long shot" for Saturday's NFC Divisional Playoff against Seattle
Insight: The Saints had no problem covering for Thomas as RB is a deep position. Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson run the ball and Darren Sproles catches the ball so they can more than make up for the loss of Thomas who does a little of both (549 rushing, 513 receiving). Move him toward the doubtful side of questionable.
Pierre Thomas, RB1/6/2014 1:46:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Pierre Thomas (chest) missed Saturday's playoff game at Philadelphia and is questionable for Saturday's NFC Divisional Playoff against Seattle
Insight: The Saints had no problem covering for Thomas as RB is a deep position. Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson run the ball and Darren Sproles catches the ball so they can more than make up for the loss of Thomas who does a little of both (549 rushing, 513 receiving).
Parys Haralson, LB1/6/2014 1:44:00 PM
Description: New Orleans linebacker Parys Haralson, who left Saturday's NFC Wild Card Playoff against Philadelphia with a chest injury, is doubtful for Saturday's NFC Divisional Playoff against Seattle.
Insight: Haralson had 30 tackles and 3.5 sacks this season. Will Herring filled in against the Eagles.
Keenan Lewis, CB1/6/2014 1:42:00 PM
Description: Saints defensive back Keenan Lewis, who left Saturday's game with a possible concussion, is questionable for Saturday's NFC Divisional Playoff against Seattle.
Insight: Lewis argued vehemently to return to the game, but doctors wouldn't let him. Hopefully he'll be ready to go next weekend versus Seattle as he's the team's best cover corner.
Parys Haralson, LB1/5/2014 9:22:00 AM
Description: New Orleans linebacker Parys Haralson left Saturday's NFC Wild Card Playoff against Philadelphia with a chest injury and did not return.

Keenan Lewis, CB1/5/2014 9:18:00 AM

Pierre Thomas, RB1/3/2014 5:30:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Pierre Thomas (chest) will miss Saturday's playoff game at Philadelphia.
Insight: The Saints will be without a player that had 1,062 yards from scrimmage (549 rushing, 513 receiving) and five touchdowns on 224 touches (147 carries, 77 receptions). They'll need to lean on Darren Sproles and Mark Ingram in the backfield against the Eagles.
Kenny Vaccaro, S12/23/2013 4:18:00 PM
Description: Saints rookie Kenny Vaccaro broke his ankle in Sunday's loss to Carolina. SOURCE: Mike Triplett, ESPN
Insight: He's done for the year. Vaccaro's rookie campaign will end with 79 tackles, one pick and one forced fumble. Roman Harper will take over at strong safety next week against the Buccaneers.
Jimmy Graham, TE12/22/2013 5:23:00 PM
Description: Saints tight end Jimmy Graham caught five passes for 73 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Panthers.
Insight: Graham had just 11 receiving yards with 12:36 remaining in the fourth quarter but he caught three passes for 62 yards and a touchdown on New Orleans lone touchdown drive of the game. Graham has 15 touchdowns this season, second most by a tight end in NFL history.
Drew Brees, QBCold12/22/2013 5:20:00 PM
Description: Saints quarterback Drew Brees was sacked six times and threw two interceptions Sunday in a loss at Carolina.
Insight: Brees threw for 281 yards on one touchdown on 30-of-44 passing and was out of rhythm all day. He's thrown for two touchdowns with four interceptions the last two games after tossing just eight picks in his first 13.
Drew Brees, QB12/19/2013 8:25:00 PM
Description: Saints quarterback Drew Brees is 500 passing yards away from his third straight 5,000-yard season.
Insight: Brees already has reached 30 touchdowns for the sixth consecutive year, and he's cut his interceptions down from 19 last season to 10 while raising his completion percentage from 63 percent to 68.2 percent.
Shayne Graham, K12/17/2013 8:35:00 PM
Description: Former Bengals and Texans kicker Shayne Graham has signed with New Orleans. SOURCE: Mike Garafolo, Fox Sports 1
Insight: He'll be taking over for Garrett Hartley, who was waived earlier today. Graham went 31-for-38 in 16 games for Houston last season.
Garrett Hartley, KCold12/17/2013 8:30:00 PM
Description: The Saints have parted ways with kicker Garrett Hartley following a pair of misses Sunday against St. Louis.
Insight: Hartley (22-for-30 this season) has already missed twice as many kicks as he did last season. Shayne Graham will kick for New Orleans this week against Carolina.
Garrett Hartley, KCold12/17/2013 11:20:00 AM
Description: Saints kicker Garrett Hartley missed two relatively easy field goals last Sunday and may be on thin ice with coach Sean Payton.
Insight: Hartley is just 22-of-30 this season (73.3 percent) and coaches usually have little patience when their are other veteran kickers available at a moment's notice.
Marques Colston, WR12/15/2013 7:49:00 PM
Description: Saints wideout Marques Colston had 92 yards and a touchdown on eight catches Sunday against the Rams.
Insight: Colston is making a late run at 1,000 yards after disappointing fantasy owners for most of the season. He's turned in 17 receptions, 217 yards and three touchdowns the last two games and will go into the final two weeks with 64 catches, 813 yards and five scores.
Darren Sproles, RB12/11/2013 11:57:00 AM
Description: According to Mike Triplett of espn.com, Saints running back Darren Sproles played a measly 15 snaps Sunday night against the Panthers.
Insight: Sproles' playing time continues to dwindle. He's offered inconsistent production all season, putting up a pair of two-touchdown games, 10 games with zero scores and just two games with 100 yards from scrimmage (zero since Week 4).
Darren Sproles, RB11/28/2013 6:30:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Darren Sproles (ankle, knee) practiced fully Thursday, according to Mike Triplett of espn.com. Sproles missed last Thursday's game against Atlanta.
Insight: Sproles has offered inconsistent production this season, putting up two two-touchdown games and zero scores in his other eight, so fantasy owners should be overly excited about having him back. Pierre Thomas is the Saints running back to own.
Pierre Thomas, RB11/22/2013 9:32:00 AM
Description: Saints running back Pierre Thomas took advantage of an absent Darren Sproles to total 130 yards from scrimmage.
Insight: The short week worked in Thomas' owners favor as Sproles wasn't able to go. Thomas split the rushing carries with Mark Ingram, but also caught five of six targets for 57 additional yards.
Jimmy Graham, TE11/22/2013 9:30:00 AM
Description: Saints tight end Jimmy Graham (foot, elbow) played 38 of 60 played Thursday night.
Insight: Graham doesn't need to play every down to be one of the best tight ends in the NFL. Even with Ben Watson catching a TD pass in the first quarter, Graham was a fantasy stud with five receptions for 100 yards and a score.
Darren Sproles, RB11/21/2013 7:47:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Darren Sproles (ankle, knee) is inactive for Thursday's game at Atlanta.
Insight: Sproles has offered inconsistent production this season, putting up two two-touchdown games and zero scores in his other eight, so he's not a major loss for fantasy owners. Pierre Thomas is a RB2 this week, and Mark Ingram has some flex value in deeper leagues.
Darren Sproles, RB11/21/2013 5:22:00 PM
Description: According to espn.com's Mike Triplett, Saints running back Darren Sproles (ankle, knee) is a "true case of 50-50" for Thursday's game at Atlanta.
Insight: Sproles will be a game-time decision. He's offered inconsistent production this season, putting up two two-touchdown games and zero scores in his other eight. Pierre Thomas will be a RB2 if Sproles is out and a flex option if Sproles is active.
Jimmy Graham, TE11/21/2013 11:38:00 AM
Description: Saints tight end Jimmy Graham (foot, elbow) is listed as probable for Thursday's game against Atlanta, but he's certainly going to play after getting in three practices this week.
Insight: Graham, who played 51 of 69 snaps last week, should get another full workload Thursday night. He's a must start.
Darren Sproles, RB11/20/2013 6:03:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Darren Sproles (ankle, knee) didn't practice Wednesday and is questionable for Thursday's game against the Falcons.
Insight: Sproles is headed toward being a game-time decision. He's offered inconsistent production this season, putting up two two-touchdown games and zero scores in his other eight.
Darren Sproles, RB11/19/2013 9:13:00 AM
Description: Saints running back Darren Sproles (ankle, knee) won't have much time to heal with a Thursday game schedule for Week 12.
Insight: Sproles looked great last week in totaling 88 yards and two scores from scrimmage, but did little against the 49ers after suffering the injury.
Jabari Greer, DB11/18/2013 11:48:00 AM
Description: Saints DB Jabari Greer injured his knee Sunday, which coach Sean Payton called "serious."
Insight: Greer (30 tackles, 1 INT, 12 passes defended) normally starts at the left corner which will likely be manned by Corey White.
Darren Sproles, RB11/17/2013 5:03:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Darren Sproles (leg) limped to the locker room in the first quarter.
Insight: Sproles looked great last week in totaling 88 yards and two scores from scrimmage, but the Saints may be without him for the rest of the game.
Mark Ingram, RB11/11/2013 5:21:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Mark Ingram's 145 rushing yards in Week 10 against Dallas were not only a career high but also the first 100-yard performance in Ingram's 30 career NFL games.
Insight: Ingram has played just four games this season due to a toe injury and hadn't rushed for more than 20 yards in the first three before busting out Sunday night. The Saints rushed for 242 yards and three touchdowns on 38 carries, so Ingram's performance is likely more an indictment of Dallas' defense than a sign he's going to become an impact player. He's not worth a waiver priority but if he clears waivers in your league feel free to make the speculative add.
Jimmy Graham, TE11/11/2013 5:14:00 PM
Description: Saints tight end Jimmy Graham (foot, elbow) only played 33 of the team's 83 snaps Sunday night against the Cowboys, but Graham indicated it was part of a pre-determined plan rather than a setback. SOURCE: Mike Triplett, ESPN.com
Insight: Graham, who played 56 snaps in Week 9 and had two touchdowns in each of the previous two games, caught five passes for 59 yards against Dallas. He's playing through a partially-torn plantar fascia so his snaps are likely to remain limited, but he's still a top-two tight end in all leagues.
Marques Colston, WR11/10/2013 8:00:00 PM
Description: Saints wideout Marques Colston is officially active for Sunday's game against Dallas.
Insight: He sat out last week against the Jets because of a knee issue. Colston's streak of four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons will come to an end this year unless he has a monster second half.
Darren Sproles, RB11/10/2013 7:57:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Darren Sproles (concussion) is active for Sunday night's game against Dallas.
Insight: Sproles passed concussion tests Wednesday and has practiced in full all week. He'll be a low-end flex option outside of PPR leagues.
Darren Sproles, RB11/8/2013 8:11:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Darren Sproles (concussion) is probable for Sunday night's game against Dallas.
Insight: Sproles passed concussion tests Wednesday and has practiced in full this week. He's a low-end flex option outside PPR leagues.
Darren Sproles, RB11/6/2013 4:14:00 PM
Description: New Orleans halfback Darren Sproles passed his concussion tests and was able to practice fully on Wednesday. SOURCE: Mike Triplett, ESPN
Insight: That gives him a decent chance to play Sunday against Dallas. Though technically considered a running back, Sproles has done most of his damage as a receiver this season (37 receptions for 368 yards and a touchdown).
Jimmy Graham, TE11/3/2013 5:26:00 PM
Description: Saints tight end Jimmy Graham's foot injury didn't hamper him at all Sunday against the Jets.
Insight: Graham hauled in nine catches on 12 targets for 116 yards and two scores, including a 51-yard touchdown in the first quarter. He'll have to play through this injury will likely miss some practice time for the rest of the season, but as long as he plays he's a must-start in all fantasy leagues.
Darren Sproles, RB11/3/2013 2:27:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Darren Sproles suffered a concussion Sunday against the Jets.
Insight: Sproles was knocked out on his first touch of the game early in the first quarter. He's done for the day.
Darren Sproles, RB11/3/2013 1:13:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Darren Sproles went to the locker room in the first quarter Sunday against the Jets after taking a big hit from Antonio Allen.
Insight: Sproles may be getting concussion tests. According to Jeff Duncan of nola.com, trainers were also looking at his ankle.
Jimmy Graham, TE11/3/2013 12:33:00 PM
Description: According to Tom Pelissero of USA Today, Saints tight end Jimmy Graham (foot) was "moving fine" in pre-game warmups.
Insight: Graham said during the week that he hopes to play more than the 18 snaps he got in Week 8 against Buffalo. Despite the limited workload, Graham still caught two touchdowns in that game and is locked in as a TE1 against the Jets.
Darren Sproles, RB11/3/2013 12:06:00 PM
Description: Saints running back Darren Sproles could see more targets as a receiver this week with Marques Colston inactive for the game with the Jets.
Insight: Sproles disappeared against the Bills last week, but the Jets don't have anyone who can cover him out of the backfield. With Colston's targets now up for grabs, Sproles might be a viable fantasy option.
Kenny Stills, WR11/3/2013 12:05:00 PM
Description: New Orleans receiver Kenny Stills has gotten through his sore knee and is active for Week 9 versus the Jets.
Insight: He led the team with 129 yards on three catches with two of those grabs going for touchdowns and with Marques Colston sidelined could see more targets.
Marques Colston, WR11/3/2013 11:42:00 AM
Description: Saints receiver Marques Colston (knee) has been made inactive and isn't going to play in Sunday's game.
Insight: The 30-year-old Colston has been a non-factor in fantasy leagues the last three games, catching six passes on 11 targets for 44 yards. At least now you can put someone in the lineup that might produce.
Jonathan Vilma, LB11/2/2013 7:23:00 PM
Description: The Saints have activated inside linebacker Jonathan Vilma from the injured reserve/designated to return list. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL.com
Insight: He missed the first two months of the season while recovering from knee surgery. Vilma recorded 37 tackles and one interception in 11 games during the 2012 campaign.
Marques Colston, WR11/2/2013 10:58:00 AM
Description: Saints receiver Marques Colston (knee) missed practice again Friday and is questionable for Sunday's game.
Insight: The 30-year-old Colston has been a nonfactor in fantasy leagues the last three games, catching six passes on 11 targets for 44 yards. Even if he's healthy enough to play in Week 9 against the Jets, fantasy owners should bench him.
Jimmy Graham, TE11/2/2013 10:45:00 AM
Description: Saints tight end Jimmy Graham (foot) was able to practice all week and hopes to play more than the 18 snaps he played in Week 8 against Buffalo when New Orleans takes on the Jets Sunday. SOURCE: ESPN.com
Insight: "Hopefully I'll be able to play more, but that's all on Sean (Payton) and all of our coaches and our doctors and what they think," Graham said. "I personally never want to come out the game ... but I personally don't know." Graham managed to score two touchdowns on three catches against the Bills and is a top-three tight end as long as he suits up. Graham is trying to manage the pain of playing with a partially torn plantar fascia but says he's going to be "full go" anytime he steps on the field Sunday.
Marques Colston, WR10/30/2013 4:53:00 PM
Description: Saints receiver Marques Colston (knee) did not practice Wednesday.
Insight: Colston has been a nonfactor in fantasy leagues the last three games, catching six passes on 11 targets for 44 yards. Even if he's healthy enough to play in Week 9 against the Jets, fantasy owners should bench him.
Kenny Stills, WR10/27/2013 7:10:00 PM
Description: New Orleans receiver Kenny Stills had his best game yet Sunday versus Buffalo.
Insight: He led the team with 129 yards on three catches with two of those grabs going for touchdowns. The former Oklahoma Sooner is on pace for 816 receiving yards in his rookie campaign.
Jimmy Graham, TE10/27/2013 7:05:00 PM
Description: Two of Jimmy Graham's three catches Sunday went for touchdowns.
Insight: That's two goal post dunks for those of you keeping score at home. Even when Graham isn't 100 percent healthy, which he wasn't for this game, he's still a force in the red zone. He'll be a must-start from here on out.
Drew Brees, QB10/27/2013 6:56:00 PM
Description: Saints QB Drew Brees (26-for-34, 332 yards) rebounded from a Week 6 loss by burning the Bills for five touchdown passes Sunday at the Superdome.
Insight: New Orleans improved to 6-1 with the victory. Sunday was Brees' eighth-career 5 TD-game. That's the most in NFL history.
Jimmy Graham, TE10/27/2013 1:47:00 PM
Description: New Orleans tight end Jimmy Graham isn't likely to play his usual amount of snaps Sunday against Buffalo. SOURCE: Jay Glazer, Fox Sports
Insight: Graham isn't close to 100 percent and we're guessing he'll mostly be used as a decoy in Week 8. Hopefully Graham wasn't your team's only option at tight end.
Jimmy Graham, TE10/27/2013 11:37:00 AM
Description: NFL Network's Rich Eisen is reporting Saints tight end Jimmy Graham will play Sunday against Buffalo.
Insight: Graham (torn plantar fascia) has decoy written all over him. Start the hobbled tight end at your own risk.
Jimmy Graham, TE10/27/2013 11:21:00 AM
Description: Saints tight end Jimmy Graham has been diagnosed with a partially torn plantar fascia. SOURCE: Jay Glazer, Fox Sports
Insight: It's a painful injury and one that probably won't heal right away. For that reason, we'd consider Graham doubtful for this week's matchup against the Bills. Graham's backup Benjamin Watson is still available in over 99 percent of fantasy leagues if you're looking for a lottery ticket.
Lance Moore, WR10/26/2013 6:17:00 PM
Description: New Orleans wide receiver Lance Moore is listed on the team's injury report as probable.
Insight: Moore, who has missed time with an injured wrist, could return to fantasy relevance this week against Buffalo if Drew Brees' favorite receiver Jimmy Graham is unable to play. Still, he makes for a risky play given his overwhelming lack of success this season (just four catches for 44 yards in three games),
Jimmy Graham, TE10/25/2013 4:31:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN.com's Mike Triplett, Saints tight end Jimmy Graham (foot) practiced on a limited basis Friday and is officially questionable for Sunday's game against the Bills, but fantasy owners should expect him to be a game-time decision.
Insight: Graham suffered a foot injury during a Week 6 loss to New England. If he can't play Sunday, look for Marques Colston, Darren Sproles, Pierre Thomas and the returning Lance Moore (wrist) to be Drew Brees' top-four targets.
Lance Moore, WR10/23/2013 5:58:00 PM
Description: Saints receiver Lance Moore (wrist) fully practiced Wednesday for the first time since suffering his injury in Week 3 and is on track to play Sunday against the Bills. SOURCE: Mike Triplett, ESPN.com
Insight: Moore caught just four passes for 44 yards the first three games. Even though Jimmy Graham is questionable with a foot injury, fantasy owners can leave Moore on the bench until we see how the team utilizes him.
Jimmy Graham, TE10/23/2013 3:38:00 PM
Description: New Orleans tight end Jimmy Graham was unavailable for Wednesday's practice due to a foot injury. SOURCE: Buffalo News
Insight: Graham suffered the injury in a Week 6 loss to New England. It's starting to look like Graham has a very real chance of missing Sunday's game against Buffalo. Have a backup ready.
