Center Player Notes
For The Last 15 Days
Andrew Bogut, C, GSW10/22/2014 11:52:00 AM
Description: The biggest question for Warriors center Andrew Bogut, is whether he can stay on the floor or not.
Insight: He has failed to play in all 82 games since his rookie season in 2005-06, and has not played in over 70 games since 2007-08. However, after playing only 32 games in 2012-13, Bogut was able to suit up for 67 games last season, while giving fantasy owners some productive stats. He will never be a dynamic scorer, as he averaged 7.3 points per game last season, but gives value with his 10.0 rebounds per game and 1.8 blocks per game, along with shooting 63 percent from the field. As a result, Bogut should be targeted starting in the 10th or 11th round of fantasy drafts.
Marc Gasol, C, MEM10/22/2014 11:30:00 AM
Description: The good news for Marc Gasol owners is that he's played 80 or more games in every even numbered season and this is 2014.
Insight: Gasol is pretty consistent averaging around 13.5 ppg and 7.9 rebounds and we expect slightly better in 2014-15. He only played 59 games last season and started slowly, but is a solid fantasy option who can dish out close to four dimes a game from the center spot.
Dwight Howard, C, HOU10/22/2014 10:58:00 AM
Description: Rockets center Dwight Howard is a guaranteed 18 points and a dozen rebounds a night, but he doesn't come without warts.
Insight: Fantasy owners who choose Howard are getting a career 57 percent free throw shooter who finished under 50 percent in two of the last three seasons. And his 1.8 bpg last season was his lowest since 2005-06. In his second season with Houston we are projecting a slight uptick to 19 ppg, 13.1 rpg, 1.5 apg and 2.1 blocks per contest.
Nikola Vucevic, C, ORL10/21/2014 7:54:00 PM
Description: Magic center Nikola Vucevic has signed a four-year contract extension.
Insight: It is worth $53 million, which is a nice pay day for Orlando's starting center. Owners should take Vucevic early in drafts, and have fun while he fills stat sheets.
JaVale McGee, C, DEN10/21/2014 5:33:00 PM
Description: Denver center JaVale McGee has yet to play in the preseason.
Insight: Talent has never been an issue with McGee, but putting it all together has been. McGee may be worth a flier towards the end of drafts, but after averaging only 7.0 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game last season, we at TSN are not hopeful of McGee producing at a reasonable rate.
J.J. Hickson, C, DEN10/21/2014 5:30:00 PM
Description: Denver center J.J. Hickson is still recovering from knee surgery, but could be taking the court any day now.
Insight: He is the direct backup at power forward, but if Hickson is able to get healthy, he could also see time at center. He will start the season serving a five-game suspension, and will most likely go undrafted in most fantasy drafts. However, Hickson is a name to keep an eye on, as he has the potential to be average close to a double-double.
Timofey Mozgov, C, DEN10/21/2014 5:11:00 PM
Description: Nuggers center Timofey Mozgov enters the season as Denver's starting big-man.
Insight: He does have JaVale McGee breathing down his neck, but Mozgov has proven to be more reliable since last season. Owners should target him late in drafts, but should not expect much more than the 9.4 points per game, 6.4 rebounds per game, and 1.2 blocks per game, Mozgov averaged in 2013-14.
Tiago Splitter, C, SAN10/21/2014 11:53:00 AM
Description: San Antonio starting center Tiago Splitter is already dealing with nagging injuries after playing just 59 games last season.
Insight: In fact, Splitter has only played more than 60 games once in his four NBA seasons and his production isn't worth waiting for. Figure him for 7.7 ppg and 6.0 rpg.
Tim Duncan, F/C, SAN10/21/2014 11:39:00 AM
Description: Spurs forward Tim Duncan is no longer the "Big Fundamenta,l" but he's still a pretty good player and a solid fantasy option.
Insight: Where once he would score 20-plus points and 10-plus rebounds every night like clockwork, he still averaged 15.1 ppg and 9..7 rpg last season. But with it comes the occasional night off that a 38-year-old with almost 1,500 games played requires.
Joakim Noah, C, CHI10/20/2014 6:23:00 PM
Description: Bulls center Joakim Noah is the top fantasy player in Chicago this season.
Insight: The hype will likely surround the return of Bulls point guard Derrick Rose, but Noah is the best fantasy asset in Chicago. He averaged 12.4 points, 11.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists while shooting nearly 48 percent from the floor last season. It will be extremely hard for Noah to repeat those numbers with Rose back and with the addition of Pau Gasol, but there is still plenty to like about Noah.
Chris Kaman, C, POR10/20/2014 5:28:00 PM
Description: Portland center Chris Kaman should be left on waivers for the upcoming fantasy baskeball season.
Insight: After averaging 10.4 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per game, and 1.0 blocked shots per game, last season with the Lakers, Kaman will most likely be unable to reach that production in 2014-15. Barring injury, stay away from Kaman.
Robin Lopez, C, POR10/20/2014 4:48:00 PM
Description: Blazers center Robin Lopez is a player that owners could forget about on draft day, but shouldn't.
Insight: He is not as sexy of a pick, as his brother Brook is, but Robin is a valauble fantasy player. He averaged 11.1 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game (Brook averaged 6.0 RPG), and 1.7 blocks per game last season. Lopez enters 2014-15 as Portland's starting center, and fantasy owners can begin to think about drafting him, starting in the seventh round.
Kelly Olynyk, C, BOS10/18/2014 7:08:00 PM
Description: Celtics center Kelly Olynyk will start at center to start the season.
Insight: Coach Brad Stevens has liked what he sees thus far from Olynyk, and the center position is his. He will provide numbers across the board and is someone to keep an eye on late in drafts.
Jared Sullinger, C, BOS10/18/2014 7:05:00 PM
Description: Celtics center/forward Jared Sullinger has been on fire this preseason.
Insight: In his latest preseason game, Sullinger lit up the 76ers with 21 points, 8-for-10 shooting, eight rebounds, five assists, two steals and four 3-pointers. He is a lock to start at power forward and should be a top-50 fantasy player this season.
Brook Lopez, C, BRK10/18/2014 6:06:00 PM
Description: Nets general manager Billy King told the team will no longer restrict center Brook Lopez's minutes.
Insight: Lopez will miss the first two weeks due to a foot injury, but the Nets are remaining positive because nothing is broken. When he comes back, Lopez will play regular minutes, but King also said the team will not build its offense around Lopez. He is a mid-round pick in standard leagues.
Kevin Garnett, C, BRK10/18/2014 5:59:00 PM
Description: Nets coach Lionel Hollins told The New York Post he expects Kevin Garnett to play more than 20 minutes per game
Insight: We have our doubts, considering the 20-year-pro averaged just 20.6 minutes per game last season. He also averaged 6.5 points and 6.6 rebounds in 2013-2014. Garnett is, at best, a late-round flier.
Nikola Pekovic, C, MIN10/18/2014 10:58:00 AM
Description: Minnesota center Nikola Pekovic will look to stay healthy in 2014-15.
Insight: He played only 54 games last season, but was still productive (17.4 PPG, 8.7 RPG, 54% FG). With Kevin Love out of town, Pekovic will be one of the go-to guys for the Timberwolves, and will have a great chance to increase his numbers, all around.
Steven Adams, C, OKC10/17/2014 4:46:00 PM
Description: Thunder center Steven Adams could be a player for owners to keep an eye on this season.
Insight: While he should not be drafted, Adams may find himself starting at center at some point this season. He has made his presence felt with Oklahoma City, and probably will give more production on the floor, than Kendrick Perkins is able to give.
Kendrick Perkins, C, OKC10/17/2014 4:27:00 PM
Description: Thunder center Kendrick Perkins should be avoided in fantasy drafts.
Insight: Coming off a season where he averaged 3.4 points per game , 4.9 rebounds per game, and 0.5 blocks per game, along with a .451 field goal percentage, Perkins is irrelevant when it comes to fantasy basketball. There is also a chance Steven Adams will overtake the starting center position, at some point this season.
Brook Lopez, C, BRK10/16/2014 10:40:00 PM
Description: Nets center Brook Lopez suffered a mild right sprain in Wednesday's preseason game.
Insight: He is expected to miss only 10-14 days, but this is bad news, nonetheless. Lopez has had major issues with his right foot throughout his career, including one that ended his 2013-14 season. Owners need to have Mason Plumlee targeted in drafts.
Enes Kanter, C, UTA10/16/2014 4:48:00 PM
Description: Jazz center Enes Kanter will look to build off a solid 2013-14 campaign.
Insight: He averaged a career-high 12.3 points per game last season, along with 7.5 rebounds per game. Playing at the center position, owners would like to see more production in the rebounding department, along with his ability to block shots (0.5 BPG last season). Kanter should be shooting around 50 percent from the field, and will not kill you from the free throw line (73% last season), and as a result owners should target him towards the end of their drafts.
Derrick Favors, F/C, UTA10/16/2014 4:40:00 PM
Description: Utah power forward Derrick Favors is looking to build off his career-best season.
Insight: He averaged a career-high in points (13.3 PPG), rebounds (8.7 RPG), assists (1.2 APG), and steals per game (1.0) last season, and at only 23-years-old is destined to improve on those numbers. He has a career .506 field goal percentage, along with a career-average of 1.3 blocks per game. Favors should be going around the fifth or sixth round of drafts, and owners should not be afraid to pick this potential breakout candidate. He also will have eligibility at the center position as well.
Al Horford, C, ATL10/14/2014 2:03:00 PM
Description: Atlanta star center Al Horford is expected to start in Tuesday's exhibition game.
Insight: Great news. Horford averaged 18.6 ppg and 8.4 rpg for 29 games before a torn pectoral muscle ended his 2013-14 season.
Nerlens Noel, C, PHI10/10/2014 8:47:00 PM
Description: 76ers center Nerlens Noel did not play on Friday due to a right thigh issue.
Insight: The 76ers held Noel out on Friday for precautionary reasons. Noel is listed as day-to-day. He should be one of the first rookies selected in fantasy drafts. With his shot-block ability, Noel has No. 1 center potential.
Dwight Howard, C, HOU10/9/2014 6:44:00 PM
Description: Rockets center Dwight Howard is not playing in Thursday's preseason game against the Grizzlies.
Insight: Howard has a sore knee but the injury does not appear to be serious. He should remain an early-round target in fantasy drafts.
Nerlens Noel, C, PHI10/8/2014 11:01:00 PM
Description: 76ers center Nerlens Noel made 5-of-13 shots, scoring 10 points, and also had nine rebounds, three assists and three blocks in 31 minutes of Wednesday's preseason game against the Hornets.
Insight: Noel likely benefitted from the matchup against Al Jefferson on Wednesday. Jefferson is know for playing very little defense. The numbers from Wednesday are much better than Noel's numbers from the first preseason game. With the lack of scoring elsewhere on the 76ers and lack of depth at the center position, Noel is a possible No. 1 center in fantasy.
