David Ortiz, DH, BOSHot8/22/2014 3:30:00 PM
Description: Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is hitting 11-for-34 (.324) in his career against Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez.
Insight: Ortiz was not in the starting lineup on Thursday, so double check to make sure he is playing, but don't be afraid to start him against the potential AL CY Young Award winner. Ortiz is eight for his last 10 with two home runs. Update: Ortiz is back in the Red Sox lineup.

Description: Red Sox DH David Ortiz is not in Thursday's starting lineup. Just activated Allen Craig will be the DH Thursday versus Matt Shoemaker and the Angels.
Insight: Ortiz seemed to hurt himself on one of his swings Wednesday night, so this isn't a big surprise. He is locked in, however, having gone 14-for-26 (.538) with two doubles, nine RBI and six walks over his last seven games. Hopefully, it's nothing serious.

Insight: Morales had one homer in his first 55 games this season. He's hitting .229 with 15 doubles, four homers, 30 RBI and a .615 OPS, but he's starting to swing the bat better.
Adam Lind, DH, TOR8/20/2014 12:52:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays DH Adam Lind is out of the lineup again Wednesday.

Kendrys Morales, DH, SEA8/19/2014 3:40:00 AM
Description: SeattleDH/1B Kendrys Morales is not in Tuesday's starting lineup.
Insight: Morales played first base on Monday, but the team is better defensively with him at DH and Logan Morrison at first. They are in a NL city, so no DH is available.
David Ortiz, DH, BOS8/18/2014 10:04:00 AM
Description: Red Sox DH David Ortiz has struggled versus Angels left-hander C.J. Wilson going 2-for-16 (.125) with no homers and five strikeouts.
Insight: Ortiz had a solid weekend series against Houston with two homers and seven RBI. His batting average is a bit below expectations, but he's still supplying power (28 HR) and RBIs (91). This matchup, however, isn't a good one for Big Papi.

Victor Martinez, DH, DETHot8/14/2014 10:35:00 AM
Description: Tigers DH Victor Martinez continues to pound the baseball in what should end up being the best season of his career.
Insight: Martinez went 3-for-4 with three RBI Wednesday against the Pirates to raise his average to .323 with 23 HR, 71 RBI and a .937 OPS. Add in he's a career .481 hitter (13-for-27) against Pittsburgh's Thursday starter, Francisco Liriano, and it makes him a must start.
Kennys Vargas, DH, MIN8/13/2014 6:20:00 PM
Description: Twins first baseman Kennys Vargas has hit .300 with two homers, 11 RBI and a .792 OPS since he was called up on July 31.
Insight: Vargas isn't a high-level prospect in Minnesota's organization, but the Twins had him skip Triple-A altogether after he hit .281 with 17 home runs over 97 games with Double-A New Britain. He's unlikely to keep this up.
Chris Carter, DH, HOUHot8/13/2014 12:49:00 PM

Insight: Carter suddenly has 28 homers, fourth most in baseball, and a .230 average because he's batted .328 with 15 homers, 36 RBI and a 1.151 OPS in his last 31 games. Nearly everything has improved for Carter in that span compared to what he did the first 73 games. David Ortiz, DH, BOSHot8/13/2014 12:20:00 PM
Description: Red Sox DH David Ortiz isn't in the lineup Wednesday afternoon at Cincinnati.
Insight: Boston can't use the DH in an NL park, so Ortiz will take a seat while Mike Napoli mans first base.
Victor Martinez, DH, DETHot8/13/2014 12:03:00 PM
Description: Tigers DH Victor Martinez went 3-for-4 with three RBI Wednesday against the Pirates.
Insight: Martinez went 0-for-4 Tuesday, but he hasn't gone more than one game without a hit since he went 0-for-8 in a doubleheader on July 19.
Adam Lind, DH, TOR8/11/2014 11:03:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays DH Adam Lind (foot) will be activated Tuesday, according to Richard Griffin of the Toronto Star.
Insight: Lind has been out since July 8 due to a non-displaced fracture in his right foot. He'll return to a .320 average, four homers, 27 RBI, 30 runs and an .878 OPS.
Adam Lind, DH, TOR8/11/2014 10:58:00 AM
Description: Blue Jays DH Adam Lind (foot) could be activated Monday in time for the game with Seattle.

Chris Carter, DH, HOU8/9/2014 11:20:00 AM
Description: Astros DH Chris Carter has been hitting the long ball, but should be avoided Saturday night.
Insight: Carter is 1-for-14 with eight strikeouts versus Rangers starter Yu Darvish. The slugger is built in the Adam Dunn, Mark Reynolds mold ... a home run hitter (25) with a low average (.225) and big strikeout total (122). Avoid.
Chris Carter, DH, HOUHot8/7/2014 10:12:00 PM
Description: Astros DH Chris Carter blasted two home runs as the Astros built a 5-1 lead.
Insight: Carter is another in the Adam Dunn, Mark Reynolds mold ... a home run hitter with a low average and big strikeout total (119). His three hits Thursday still only brought his average to .225, but he has 24 homers and 57 RBI.
