Description: The Cardinals reassigned Oscar Taveras to minor league camp on Thursday, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: Taveras, MLB.com's No. 3 overall prospect in baseball, was attempting to make the roster in a reserve role, but his fate was sealed after he came down with hamstring tightness this week. He was limited to just 47 games last season by an ankle injury that required surgery.

Description: Cardinals manager Mike Matheny called the chances of Oscar Taveras making the team, "not possible - without him being healthy."

Description: Cardinals GM John Mozeliak may have declared top outfielder prospect Oscar Tavares "100 percent cleared" for baseball activity a couple of weeks ago, but manager Mike Matheny said he's 80 percent and that's not good enough to play.
Insight: MLB.com ranks Tavares as the No. 3 prospect in baseball and the 21-year-old will compete for a spot on the 25-man roster this spring, but with Matt Holliday, Peter Bourjos and Allen Craig in front of him he'll likely start the year at Triple-A.

Description: Jenifer Langosch of mlb.com reports that Cardinals GM John Mozeliak declared top outfielder prospect Oscar Tavares "100 percent cleared" for baseball activity Thursday.
Insight: He'll still be under some running restrictions, so he's not entirely 100 percent ready after undergoing ankle surgery. MLB.com ranks Tavares as the No. 3 prospect in baseball. The 21-year-old will compete for a spot on the 25-man roster this spring, but Matt Holliday, Peter Bourjos and Allen Craig block his path to a starting job.
