National League Preview from The Sports Network

Monday, April 22nd (All times Eastern)

Milwaukee Brewers (9-8) at San Diego Padres (5-13), 10:10 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Milwaukee - Kyle Lohse (0-1, 2.70) San Diego - Jason Marquis (1-1, 2.41)

(Sports Network) - The bats are starting to come alive for the streaking Milwaukee Brewers as they open a three-game series against the San Diego Padres Monday night at Petco Park.

The Brewers have won seven in a row and are coming off a perfect 6-0 homestand, which culminated with a weekend sweep of the Chicago Cubs. In Sunday's 4-2 win in the series finale, Ryan Braun clubbed a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to put Milwaukee ahead for good.

Wily Peralta earned the win by throwing 6 1/2 innings of two-run ball, while three relievers held the Cubs scoreless the rest of the way. Jim Henderson posted his fourth save by striking out two in the ninth.

"His fastball stayed pretty consistent, his command was better, he threw a couple of nice changeups and sliders," Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said of his starter. "His stuff was better."

Milwaukee last won eight in row from Aug. 5-13, 2008 and has homered in seven straight games. It has 13 home runs total in that span after producing just five in the first 10 contests.

The Brewers will also visit the Los Angeles Dodgers on the upcoming swing and hope Kyle Lohse can get the trek started on the right foot at San Diego. Lohse is 0-1 with a 2.70 earned run average in three starts and tossed seven decent innings for a no-decision the last time out in a 4-3 win over San Francisco.

Lohse had a season-high six strikeouts versus the Giants and will face the Padres for the 10th time in his career. The right-hander is 3-4 with a 4.97 ERA over the initial nine starts against the Friars.

San Diego was swept in three games at San Francisco over the weekend and was outscored, 10-2, in the set. The Padres dropped a 5-0 decision on Sunday as starting pitcher Eric Stults was battered for five runs and eight hits in seven innings of work.

"I felt like I was making good pitches," Stults said.

Everth Cabrera and Nick Hundley had two hits apiece for San Diego, which was coming off a three-game sweep of the Dodgers and lost for the eighth time in the last 11 tries.

The Padres, who will host the Giants on this six-game homestand, are scheduled to send Jason Marquis to the mound Monday. Marquis is 1-1 with a 2.41 earned run average in three starts and won for the first time this season last Tuesday in a 9-2 bashing against the Dodgers, yielding one run and three hits in seven frames.

Marquis, a righty, struck out five batters for the second straight start. Marquis is 6-11 with a 5.53 ERA in 23 career appearances, 20 of which have been starts, against Milwaukee.

San Diego lost five of the nine meetings with Milwaukee last season.
