In 47 games this season, Jason Blake has more goals than he did all of last year.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
Interested in one of those hard-to-find leftwingers who can score?
It seems like a fool's errand what with the dearth of leftwingers in the NHL these days. If you need a center, they are available at a moments notice. There also seems to be a fair share of rightwingers. But the left side seems like they are hiding in the bushes and it takes a lot of work to trade for one or find that "diamond in the rough."
Well I'm here to tell you that Jason Blake is your man and he is owned in only about 60% of the leagues out there.
Blake was a 40-goal scorer just two years ago, for the New York Islanders in 2006-07. Then he was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia, a rare, but highly treatable form of cancer and in 2007 struggled to get his offensive game in gear for his new team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
But in just 47 games this season, Blake already has more goals than all of last year and has scored goals in four of his last five games. He started slowly with just three goals and seven assists through the end of November, but over the last two months has seemed to regain his scoring touch. Blake totaled five goals in December and nine January.
If he is currently a free agent in your league, you should make the effort to pick him up.
