A small gamble now could pay off next year

Gilbert Arenas could be a gigantic bargain for the 2009-10 season.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Gilbert Arenas is an All-Star guard when he is playing at his peak, which he hasn't since the end of the 2006-07 season. That year, he posted stellar numbers - 28.4 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 6.0 apg, 1.9 spg while leading the Washington Wizards into the playoffs.

In November 2007 he underwent surgery to repair a partial tear in his left meniscus as well as a microfracture surgery. He played just 13 games that season averaging less than 20 points. And he missed all of the 2008-09 season until last Saturday night when he returned to the floor, scoring 15 points and handing out 10 assists.

Arenas is scheduled to play a haphazard schedule the rest of the way, not playing back-to-back games, while he slowly regains his confidence. He and Coach Ed Tapscott will decide which games he plays over the final two weeks.

For those in keeper leagues, it's an interesting option to pickup up "Agent Zero" for cheap and keep him over the summer break. He's still available in 36% of all leagues and although he won't be much help in the final games this season, could be a gigantic bargain for the 2009-10 season.

If you have an open spot on your roster, the big upside if he returns to All-Star form, makes it an inexpensive gamble.

2008-09 thru 3/28WAS115.
