NHL Game Summary - Philadelphia at Boston

(Saturday, April 5th)

Final Score: Boston 5, Philadelphia 2

Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston Bruins clinched the top seed in the Eastern Conference with a 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.

Johnny Boychuk, Milan Lucic and Chris Kelly scored in the third period for the Bruins, who lead the league with 113 points, two more than St. Louis in the race for the Presidents' Trophy.

Lucic ended with two goals and an assist for Boston, which snapped a two-game skid. David Krejci had a goal and an assist and Loui Eriksson recorded four assists.

Tuukka Rask stopped 24-of-26 shots for the Bruins, who won all three meetings against Philadelphia this season.

Wayne Simmonds and Jay Rosehill lit the lamp for the Flyers, who have dropped four in a row and sit just two points ahead of the idle Columbus Blue Jackets for third place in the Metropolitan Division.

Ray Emery turned aside 37-of-41 shots in defeat.

Boychuk broke a 2-2 tie at 13:54 of the third period with a blast from the right point after Patrice Bergeron beat Vincent Lecavalier clean on a faceoff at the right dot.

Less than a minute later, Lucic lit the lamp after the puck deflected off Emery. Kelly added an empty-net goal with 21 seconds left to account for the final margin.

Earlier, the Bruins took a 1-0 lead on Krejci's goal at the 15:56 mark of the first period. A scramble for the puck in front of Emery ended with Krejci putting the puck in the back of the net.

Simmonds tied the game on a power-play goal at 14:36 of the middle stanza. Mark Streit's shot from the point hit off the end boards and went right to Simmonds, who was positioned at the side of the net.

Just 19 seconds after the Flyers snapped a scoreless streak that lasted 165:01 minutes, Lucic lit the lamp on a one-timer from the high slot.

Rosehill responded with a goal of his own at 16:21 of the second. He made a nice spin move in front before beating Rask.
