Flames snag Hudler with 4-year deal
Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - The Calgary Flames picked up another unrestricted free agent on Monday, signing forward Jiri Hudler to a four-year contract.
The pact is worth $16 million for the duration with an average annual value of $4 million.
"Jiri Hudler is a highly skilled and dynamic offensive player," said Flames general manager Jay Feaster. "He is one of the very best goal scorers in the NHL at even strength and he puts a very high percentage of his shots on net, generating scoring chances for himself and rebound opportunities for his teammates. He fits our need to upgrade and improve our skill and we are very pleased to have him on board."
Hudler posted 25 goals and 25 assists in 81 games for the Detroit Red Wings last season, adding two goals in five playoff contests.
A 28-year-old native of the Czech Republic, Hudler spent his entire eight-year NHL career in the Motor City, recording 87 goals and 214 points in 409 regular-season games. He contributed 12 goals and 33 points over 66 postseason tilts, winning a Stanley Cup with the franchise in 2008.
