Description: After getting a second opinion, Milwaukee first baseman Mat Gamel will have surgery to repair the torn ACL in his right knee (again) and will miss the entire 2013 season.
Insight: Gamel (.246, 1 HR, 6 RBI) was going to open the season as the team's starting first baseman while Corey Hart recovers from offseason knee surgery. Hart is not expected back until mid-May. So far this spring the team has used Alex Gonzalez, Hunter Morris, Taylor Green and Sean Halton at first base.

Description: Brewers first baseman Mat Gamel (.246, 1 HR, 6 RBI) had surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.
Insight: Milwaukee has used a number of players in place of Gamel, including Corey Hart, but with the surgery we should expect they will come up with a more permanent answer.

5/2/2012 8:02:00 PM
Description: Mat Gamel has a torn right ACL that will likely require season-ending surgery.
Insight: Kiss his fantasy value goodbye. Milwaukee must really be missing Prince Fielder right about now.

4/25/2012 5:20:00 PM
Description: Mat Gamel (shoulder) was not in the lineup on Wednesday afternoon against Houston.
Insight: Gamel is clearly still dealing with the effects of a sore shoulder suffered during a home plate collision on Monday. Travis Ishikawa started at first base again and homered for the second straight game.

4/24/2012 4:59:00 PM
Description: Mat Gamel had X-rays on Tuesday to determine if he has a separated shoulder. According to MLB.com's Brewers beat writer Adam McCalvy, Gamel's wife tweeted that the X-rays came back negative.

Description: Mat Gamel's strained oblique isn't healing well. SOURCE: TOM HAURDICOURT
Insight: He needs to get healthy soon if he is going to make the team out of spring training. His biggest issue is still lack of defensive skills and a defined position. He would benefit greatly from a trade to an AL team.

Description: The Brewers will have Mat Gamel playing third base, first base, and both corner outfield spots during spring training. SOURCE: Jerry Crasnick via Twitter
Insight: If Gamel can make the team because of this versatility he could get 300+ AB's in 2011, which would limit his value to NL-only leagues. If he does not have a starting position don't overpay for him on draft day.

9/24/2010 12:02:00 PM
Description: The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Brewers' manager Ken Macha said he believes Gamel will end up as an outfielder.
Insight: Gamel made his first career start in left field on Thursday, but he may have to go elsewhere if he is going to be a major league outfielder due to the glut of outfielders the Brewers currently have. (RapidDraft.com)

9/1/2010 5:46:00 AM
Description: Mat Gamel has been called up by the Brewers.
Insight: There is nothing wrong with his bat and with regular playing time he could hit well in the majors. But his defense is still poor and there isn't a place for him in Milwaukee. An off-season trade to an AL team would be great for him.

6/4/2010 5:56:00 PM
Description: Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Gamel has been activated from the DL and optioned to Triple-A Nashville.
Insight: Casey McGehee is currently doing fine at third base for the Brewers, so Gamel would find it hard to crack the lineup at the big league level if he was there anyway. (SportsBuff.com)

6/2/2010 12:45:00 PM
Description: Gamel is hitting .375 through his first seven games for Double-A Huntsville.
