Description: Cincinnati right-hander Mike Leake had an eventful evening Tuesday against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Not only did Leake strike out eight en route to his second victory of the season, but he also delivered two hits including his third career home run. He's now a .253 hitter in 237 lifetime at bats.
4/9/2014 6:28:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mike Leake blanked the Cardinals on four hits over eight innings Wednesday afternoon.
Insight: Leake had his best season in 2013, going 14-7 with a 3.37 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. Due to a lack of strikeouts, Leake is an average fantasy option.

Insight: Opening Day isn't for another four weeks so the Reds can afford to ease Leake back into action. Though he isn't a big strikeout guy, it's tough to ignore the impressive ERA Leake posted in 2013 (3.37 in 192 1/3 innings).
9/24/2013 10:17:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mike Leake had an ugly outing Tuesday against the Mets, giving up eight hits and four earned runs in 1 2/3 innings.
Insight: Leake threw 13 2/3 scoreless innings over his previous two starts and won each of his previous three, but he just didn't have it Tuesday. With just four games left this season, Leake won't start again. He's had his best season this year, going 14-7 with a 3.37 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP in 192 1/3 innings.
8/11/2013 6:47:00 PM
Description: Reds righthander Mike Leake followed up his worst start of the year with a solid outing Sunday against the Padres.
Insight: Leake (10-5, 2.86 ERA) gave up two runs (one earned) in seven innings. The game went into extras so Leake had to settle for the no-decision. He's 2-1 with a 3.52 ERA in five post All-Star break starts.
7/10/2013 8:15:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati righthander Mike Leake turned in his longest outing of the season Wednesday against the Brewers.
Insight: Leake lasted 8 1/3 innings, giving up just two runs and four hits over that span. He'll finish the first half with a 2.69 ERA, a career-best and good for eighth-best in the National League.
Hot7/1/2013 10:07:00 AM
Description: Reds starter Mike Leake finished the month with a 1.76 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP over 41 innings.
Insight: It was his second straight month with an ERA below 2.00. Cincinnati stuck with Leake in the rotation instead of rookie sensation Tony Cingrani when Johnny Cueto returned from his first disabled list stint, and it has paid off big time. The 2008 eighth overall pick is finally living up to his potential.
Hot6/22/2013 10:01:00 PM
Description: Reds righthander Mike Leake was this close to his eighth victory of the season. Instead, his closer Aroldis Chapman let him down by blowing the save in the ninth inning Saturday against Arizona.
Insight: A lot of people are going to be second-guessing Baker after this one as Leake's pitch count was only at 92 when he took him out. Regardless of the game's outcome, it was another strong outing from Leake, who is now 5-1 with a 1.31 ERA over his last eight starts.
Hot6/17/2013 10:26:00 PM
Description: Mike Leake kept his hot streak alive with another strong outing Monday against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Leake (7 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's) has been unstoppable lately. Over his last seven starts, he's 5-1 with a 1.15 ERA. Right now, he's eighth in the NL in wins (seven) and tenth in ERA (2.64).
Hot6/12/2013 7:50:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati righthander Mike Leake allowed just three hits over eight strong innings Wednesday in a win over the Cubs.
Insight: After a couple of shaky seasons at the back of the Reds rotation, Leake has emerged as a legitimate fantasy ace in 2013. In his last six starts, he's 4-1 with a 1.13 ERA. The only run he gave up Wednesday came on a solo homer by Nick Schierholtz in the second inning.
Hot6/2/2013 9:19:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati starter Mike Leake has won three straight decisions and has a 0.33 ERA over his last four starts.
Insight: That's not a typo; Leake has allowed just one earned run over his last 27 innings. Leake has a career 4.45 ERA at the Great American Ballpark, compared to 3.59 on the road. This season, however, he has a 2.88/2.62 ERA home/road split and is 5-2 with a 2.75 ERA overall.
Hot5/27/2013 9:24:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati starter Mike Leake turned in another strong outing Monday against Cleveland.
Insight: Leake allowed two runs (one earned) over 7 1/3 innings. The game was tied 2-2 when he left so Leake was given a no-decision. He's undefeated in his last three starts (2-0, 0.43 ERA over that span).
5/21/2013 10:08:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mike Leake ran his record to 4-2 with seven scoreless innings Tuesday against the Mets.
Insight: Leake gave up three hits and walked two in the game. The Reds chose to leave Leake in the rotation and send down rookie Tony Cingrani when Johnny Cueto returned from the DL, and he rewarded that decision Tuesday. Leake allowed 16 hits and nine earned runs in his first two starts, but has a 2.28 in 43 1/3 innings since then.
5/15/2013 10:45:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mike Leake made his case to remain in the rotation with 6 2/3 scoreless innings and six strikeouts against the Marlins Wednesday.
Insight: Leake allowed nine hits in the game, but nobody on Miami could come up with a clutch hit. Leake has a 3.72 this season, but his WHIP is 1.49. Tony Cingrani is a much better fantasy option, but one of the two will have to leave the rotation when Johnny Cueto returns Monday.
4/17/2013 10:10:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mike Leake earned his first victory of the season Wednesday against Philadelphia.
Insight: Leake probably could have pitched deeper into the game (he only threw 81 pitches over seven innings) but the Reds were up 11-0 so they really didn't need him to. Leake will make his next start Monday against the Cubs.
10/10/2012 8:49:00 PM
Description: Filling in for injured starter Johnny Cueto, Reds righthander Mike Leake struggled Wednesday versus the Giants. In 4 1/3 innings of work, Leake surrendered six hits and five runs, walking two and striking out one.
Insight: Wednesday was Leake's first postseason appearance. It was also Leake's first start since September 29th.
8/15/2012 10:31:00 PM
Description: While it may not have been quite as heroic as Felix Hernandez's performance, Reds starter Mike Leake still looked pretty impressive in Cincinnati's 6-1 win over the Mets on Wednesday. Over nine innings, Leake allowed just one run on four hits. He walked none and struck out four.
Insight: Wednesday was the first complete game of Leake's career. He's now 2-1 with a 4.93 ERA since the All-Star break.
7/30/2012 10:14:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mike Leake allowed five runs on five hits with three walks in 1 2/3 innings Monday against the Padres.
Insight: As we noted in a column last week, Leake should never be started when he's pitching at the Great American Ballpark. In 11 home starts, Leake has a 6.03 ERA, more than three runs higher than his road ERA.
Hot7/19/2012 5:55:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mike Leake came into Thursday's start sporting a 2.59 ERA in 73 innings over his last 11 starts, but Arizona sent him packing after 5 1/3 innings (11 H, 6 ER).
Insight: Leake has been an above-average starting pitcher since mid-May, but Thursday was not one of his finer efforts.
Hot7/4/2012 11:01:00 AM
Description: Reds starter Mike Leake has pitched very well over his last three starts, going 1-0 with two no decisions, a 1.50 ERA and 0.917 WHIP.
Insight: Leake's overall 3-5 won/loss record is deceiving, he's pitching well of late and against a slumping Dodgers lineup could add his fourth consecutive game yielding two runs or less. Start him on Wednesday.
