(Sports Network) - The New York Rangers try to narrow the gap in the Atlantic Division race tonight when they welcome the Philadelphia Flyers to Madison Square Garden.

Entering Monday's action, the Rangers are three points behind the Flyers in the division race.

New York has won four of its last five games, including Saturday's 7-1 pounding of visiting Pittsburgh. Jaromir Jagr scored a pair of goals and added an assist to power the Rangers to the blowout at MSG.

Martin Rucinsky contributed a goal and two assists for the Rangers, who scored the last six goals of the match. Jason Ward, Michal Rozsival, Petr Prucha and Jason Strudwick also scored in the lopsided victory.

Henrik Lundqvist needed to make just 13 saves in net for New York, which outshot Pittsburgh a whopping 51-14.

The Rangers, who are 16-6-4 on home ice, will host the Penguins on Wednesday.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, has lost two straight games, including Saturday's 6-0 tilt to visiting Tampa Bay. Fredrik Modin recorded a hat trick and Sean Burke stopped each of the 38 shots he faced to lead the Lightning.

Rookie netminder Antero Niittymaki allowed six goals on 30 shots for Philadelphia, which has lost six of its last eight games overall.

Center Peter Forsberg missed his first game since suffering a groin strain against Montreal last Wednesday. Forsberg is expected to miss this evening's game as well.

On Sunday, the Flyers announced that defenseman Derian Hatcher is the club's interim captain until Keith Primeau can return from a concussion. Primeau has been out of the lineup since later October.

Philly, which is 16-5-3 on the road, will visit Buffalo on Thursday.

The Flyers and Ranger have split two meetings this season, with each team winning in the other's rink.
