Description: According to Fox Sports Wisconsin, there's only about a 40 percent chance running back Cedric Benson will return to the Packers next season.
Insight: Benson missed most of the season with a Lisfranc injury. There isn't a high demand for running backs in their 30s so Benson could have trouble finding work this offseason.

Insight: Benson suffered a Lisfranc sprain in Week 5 and hasn't played since. He was placed on injured reserve but given the "designated to return" tag so he was attempting to come back for a late season charge. James Starks, Alex Green and John Kuhn will continue to handle running back duties, but none are attractive fantasy options.

Description: Green Bay halfback Cedric Benson is considering foot surgery according to Bob McGinn from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Insight: Benson is eligible to come off the I.R. in Week 14. He's been out with a Lisfranc injury since Week 5 and would undoubtedly miss the rest of the season if surgery were to be required.

Description: Packers running back Cedric Benson (foot) hopes to be back on the field for the team's Dec. 16 game against the Bears. SOURCE: Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel
Insight: Benson hasn't played since suffering a Lisfranc sprain against the Colts in Week 5. He's eligible to return to practice next week under the NFL's new IR rule. He's been running at 65 percent body weight on a special treadmill that doesn't require him to place full body weight on his injured foot. If he can get back for Green Bay's Week 15 game, he could play a nice role for fantasy teams during the fantasy playoffs.

10/8/2012 10:46:00 PM
Description: ESPN reports that Green Bay tailback Cedric Benson will miss at least eight weeks after being diagnosed with a Lisfranc injury.
Insight: Alex Green is likely to be the team's starter at running back while Benson is out.

10/8/2012 4:44:00 PM
Description: Packers coach Mike McCarthy has already ruled out running back Cedric Benson (foot) for Week 6 against the Texans, according to Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
Insight: Benson has been worked heavily by the Packers this season, carrying the ball 71 times for 248 yards and catching 14 passes for 97. He had 41 total yards in Sunday's game before exiting with a foot injury. Alex Green, James Starks and John Kuhn will handle the workload in place of Benson.

10/8/2012 10:50:00 AM
Description: Packers running back Cedric Benson was seen leaving the locker room in a walking boot Sunday after suffering a left foot injury, but told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that "x-rays were negative and he thought it was just a mild sprain."
Insight: Benson might miss Week 6, but it appears that he may have avoided a more serious injury. He was just coming into his own in the Packers' offense and will be missed. He has rushed for 248 yards and one touchdowns and has caught 14 balls for 97 yards this season. Alex Green figures to be the starter if Benson misses any action.

Description: Packers running back Cedric Benson was seen leaving the locker room in a walking boot Sunday after suffering a left foot injury, according to Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
Insight: Benson left Sunday's game against Indianapolis in the first half after appearing to twist his ankle while getting tackled. The extent or severity of Benson's injury is still undetermined.

10/7/2012 1:55:00 PM
Description: Packers running back Cedric Benson left Sunday's game against Indianapolis with a foot injury and was carted to the locker room after being examined on the sidelines.
Insight: It looked like Benson twisted his ankle while getting tackled. The running back had 41 total yards prior to exiting. He's questionable to return.

10/2/2012 1:46:00 PM
Description: "(Cedric Benson is) a workhorse and when he touches the ball, the more he touches it, the better he gets," said Packers offensive coordinator Tom Clements on Monday, according to a Green Bay Press-Gazette report.
Insight: Through the first four games, Benson has 64 of the team's 72 non-quarterback rushing attempts. Even when James Starks returns from his turf toe injury there is no guarantee that the situation will change.

9/15/2012 10:59:00 AM
Description: If teams continue playing two-deep zones to protect against the long pass, Packers running back Cedric Benson should produce solid fantasy statistics.
Insight: Last season the Packers averaged 24.6 rushing attempts per game which ranked 26th among the 32 teams. Benson rushed 20 times for 81 yards and also caught four passes for 35 yards against the Bears. Whether he will get that many carries on a weekly basis is up for question, but not whether he is the team's primary running back.

9/13/2012 11:48:00 PM
Description: Packers running back Cedric Benson was leaned on more heavily in Week 2 against his former team the Chicago Bears and he responded with 116 total yards from scrimmage.
Insight: Benson rushed 20 times for 81 yards and also caught four passes for 35 yards. We'll have to see Benson do this again before we can recommend him as a week-to-week flex play.

8/28/2012 6:14:00 PM
Description: Packers running back Cedric Benson has not officially been named the starter yet, but his competition Alex Green told FoxSportsWisconsin.com that "Cedric is leading off" the backfield rotation when the Packers start the regular season.
Insight: Benson will have the same role he did in Cincinnati -- early down back -- but that doesn't mean he'll receive as many carries. The team employed a committee of James Starks and Ryan Grant last season and gave those two 267 carries combined. Benson is likely to get 200-230 carries, which should put him well short of his fourth straight 1,000-yard season considering he has averaged just 3.8 ypc in his career. He's nothing more than a bye week fill-in.

8/24/2012 11:04:00 AM
Description: Packers running back Cedric Benson made his preseason debut Thursday against his former team the Cincinnati Bengals and shared time with Alex Green running for the first team.
Insight: Benson was the more impressive, rushing for 38 yards on six carries while Green managed just 10 yards on five carries. It's looking more and more like Benson will be the Packers opening day starter.

8/23/2012 10:44:00 AM
Description: According to the Associated Press, Packers running back Cedric Benson will make his preseason debut Thursday against his former team the Cincinnati Bengals.
Insight: Benson rushed for 1,000-plus yards in each of the last three seasons with the Bengals. He's the favorite for the starting job with James Starks dealing with turf toe and Alex Green coming off a major knee injury. Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Benson "seems very motivated" to learn the offense quickly.

8/19/2012 8:57:00 PM
Description: According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Cedric Benson is expected to be the Packers' Week 1 starter at running back.
Insight: Benson is the healthiest halfback Green Bay has right now so it's not surprising that he has the inside track on the starting job. Benson has quietly racked up three consecutive 1,000 yard seasons. He's unlikely to reach that threshold again this season as part of Green Bay's pass-first offense but Benson is still deserving of at least a late round pick in most fantasy drafts.

8/15/2012 10:58:00 AM
Description: The signing of running back Cedric Benson will force fantasy owners to examine who will be the Packers starter by the time they reach opening day.
Insight: Benson believes he will be the starter, while it is probably James Starks' job to lose. Unfortunately, Starks has a toe injury which has kept him off the practice field. Although Green Bay is a pass-first offense, if one of the backs gets a majority of the opportunities, he could be a valuable fantasy asset.

8/14/2012 1:50:00 PM
Description: Packers running back Cedric Benson told Jerry MacDonald of ContraCostatimes.com that he was approached by Oakland and Detroit as well as Green Bay.
Insight: In Oakland it was for the backup role to Darren McFadden, which means you shouldn't be excited by Taiwan Jones or Mike Goodson as McFadden's handcuff, as the team is still looking at other options. In Detroit, it means that Jahvid Best probably won't be playing any time soon.

8/12/2012 4:49:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Packers and running back Cedric Benson have officially come to an agreement on a one-year contract.
Insight: Benson rushed for 1,067 yards and six TDs for the Bengals last season so he still has plenty left in the tank. It will be interesting to see how incumbent starting running back James Starks responds to the Benson signing. Starks rushed for just 578 yards and one score last season and the word around training camp is that he's been struggling. Starks has also been dealing with turf toe recently, so there's a very realistic chance that Benson could be Green Bay's Week 1 starter in 2012.

8/10/2012 8:18:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen former Cincinnati running back Cedric Benson is on the verge of signing with the Green Bay Packers.
Insight: It wouldn't be surprising if Benson (1,067 yards, six TDs for the Bengals last season) overtakes incumbent James Starks (578 yards, one TD in 2011) for the Packers' starting running back job by the time the regular season gets underway.
