Description: Yankees righthander Andrew Bailey won't be available to pitch until September at the earliest. He's still rehabbing his injured shoulder. SOURCE: Daniel Barbarisi, Wall Street Journal
Insight: Bailey signed a minor league deal with New York on Saturday. Even if Bailey were healthy, he wouldn't be a candidate to pitch the ninth inning. The former Red Sox and A's closer shouldn't be owned in any fantasy leagues.

Description: Reliever Andrew Bailey has agreed to an incentive-laden minor league contract with the Yankees, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.
Insight: Bailey had surgery to repair a torn capsule and damaged labrum in his right shoulder last summer. He threw just 44 innings and went 14-for-22 in save chances over his two seasons with the Red Sox. The New Jersey native will try to join the Yankees' bullpen by the middle of the season.

Description: Boston closer Andrew Bailey has labrum damage according to Red Sox beat writer Evan Drellich.
Insight: He's been placed on the DL and now season-ending surgery is a possibility. We await further word, but in the meantime, the price for Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon just rose a bit.

Description: Red Sox manager John Farrell didn't take long to remove Andrew Bailey as the team's closer. Farrell confirmed after Thursday's blown save that Bailey is being removed, according to Evan Drellich of MassLive.com.
Insight: Bailey allowed a two-run walk-off homer to Jhonny Peralta Thursday and has given up seven earned runs on eight hits, walked five and allowed four home runs over his last five appearances (4 IP, 3 BS). The team will look at internal options, Farrell said, which means that either Junichi Tazawa or Koji Uehara will get a look.

Description: Boston closer Andrew Bailey blew his second straight save chance Thursday against Detroit.
Insight: Bailey allowed a two-run walk-off homer to Jhonny Peralta. He has given up seven earned runs on eight hits, walked five and allowed four home runs over his last five appearances (4 IP, 3 BS). Joel Hanrahan is out, so Bailey doesn't have much competition, but the team might consider turning to Junichi Tazawa.

Description: Red Sox reliever Andrew Bailey (biceps) has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and should take back the closer role.

Insight: Bailey is eligible to be activated from the DL today, but he needs more time. The right-hander did throw a 20-pitch bullpen session this afternoon and felt good, according to Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald. He'll face hitters in a simulated game Thursday. Fill-in Junichi Tazawa hasn't picked up a save yet since taking over the closer role.

Description: Red Sox reliever Andrew Bailey (biceps) said he played catch on Thursday, but has no timetable for a return, according to Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com.
Insight: He definitely won't be back when he is eligible on May 14, that much is clear. Joel Hanrahan was transferred to the 60-day DL Thursday, meaning Junichi Tazawa could have a longer run than expected as Boston's closer.

5/4/2013 11:10:00 AM
Description: Red Sox closer Andrew Bailey is dealing with biceps soreness and has been downgraded to doubtful for Saturday's game against Texas.
Insight: That explains why Bailey, who hasn't pitched since April 28, wasn't called upon for a save chance Thursday night. The injury is ill-timed for fantasy owners, as it gives Joel Hanrahan a chance to prove himself in the closer role after losing it while he was on the disabled list.

4/30/2013 2:10:00 PM
Description: It appears that Red Sox reliever Andrew Bailey will keep the closer's role even when Joel Hanrahan returns from the disabled list.
Insight: Bailey is 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA, .811 WHIP and five saves in six chances. There is no guarantee that he will remain the closer for the rest of the season, but for now Bailey is the guy to have in the Red Sox bullpen.

4/18/2013 10:29:00 PM
