Description: The Phillies have released right-hander Chad Gaudin, reports Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer. They signed him to a minor-league deal in January.
Insight: Gaudin failed his physical. His chances of starting for the Phillies took a hit anyway on Wednesday when the team signed A.J. Burnett. He'll look for another opportunity after posting a career-low 3.06 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 97 innings last season.

Insight: Gaudin has won both of his starts since joining the rotation. He owns a 2.32 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP this season working primarily in middle relief and should hold onto a rotation spot until Ryan Vogelsong returns next month.
