National League Game Summary - Los Angeles at Arizona
(Friday, May 16th)
Final Score: Los Angeles 7, Arizona 0
Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Zack Greinke pitched eight shutout innings and Yasiel Puig went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI, as the Los Angeles Dodgers blanked the Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-0, to start a three-game set at Chase Field.
Scott Van Slyke tacked on two hits, including a solo homer, to give the Dodgers their 15th win in the last 19 games against Arizona.
"We got contributions from all over," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "It was a good game for us."
Greinke (7-1) allowed five hits, walked two and had six strikeouts to give the Dodgers their record seventh straight road win over the Diamondbacks. That includes the two contests in Australia to start this season.
Greinke has given up two or fewer runs in 21 straight starts, the longest such stretch for any MLB pitcher since at least 1914. He's gone 14-2 since the streak began.
Puig, who extended his career-best hitting streak to 15 games, has at least one extra-base hit and one RBI in each of his last seven contests.
Wade Miley (3-4) yielded seven hits and four runs in six innings for Arizona, which fell to 1-8 this season against the Dodgers.
"He was just unable to command the zone unlike the guy from the other side," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said of Miley. "It's inconsistency, he has to keep the ball down."
With one out in the third, Puig belted a 2-2 pitch over the wall in right field.
LA padded its lead in the fourth. Van Slyke doubled with one out. With two down, A.J. Ellis stroked an RBI single to right. Greinke followed by delivering a run-scoring double to right-center.
Greinke set down 10 straight batters until Paul Goldschmidt walked with two outs in the sixth.
Van Slyke homered to center to start the top of the sixth for a 4-0 cushion.
Puig singled to left to start the seventh against Randall Delgado. Hanley Ramirez then doubled to right-center for a five-run margin. After Adrian Gonzalez walked, Ramirez went to third on a wild pitch and scored when Matt Kemp beat out a potential double-play ball.
An RBI double to left from Puig plated Dee Gordon in the eighth.
Since joining the Dodgers, Greinke is 11-1 vs. NL West clubs. Since coming to LA, Greinke is 4-0 with a 1.37 ERA in six starts against Arizona ... LA has won three of its last four overall .. Van Slyke has 13 career homers, four of which have come against Miley.
