Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
In the movie "Swingers," Vince Vaughn delivers one of the most underrated pump-up speeches of all-time.
These are his words of advice for the whiny, self-loathing Jon Favreau: "You know what you are? You're like a big bear with claws and fangs ... and you're thinking to yourself, you don't know what to do, man. 'I don't know how to kill the bunny.' With this (he crunches his fingers up like claws) you don't know how to kill the bunny?!"
Mark my words. This will be the year Pierre Garcon finally kills that bunny.
Watch out, Bugs.
Why am I feeling so good about Garcon? Probably because his teammates and coaches can't stop talking about him. And who would know better than them?
"He's going to be the Andre Johnson to this offense," fellow wideout Santana Moss told CBS Sports on Monday. "That's what they brought him here for."
For those of you who need a refresher, Johnson is a six-time Pro Bowler for the Texans. Only 26 players in league history have more receiving yards than he does.
Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan called Garcon "a difference-maker."
Another onlooker, beat reporter Zac Boyer from the Fredericksburg Free Lance- Star, had this to say, "Garcon demonstrated a knack for making some of the more difficult catches last season, but in training camp, he's making all of them."
Injury concerns exist but if you ask Washington Times reporter Rich Campbell, he'll tell you Garcon has never looked better. "[Garcon] has run well through the first week of camp, showing no signs of last year's foot injury or the offseason labrum surgery."
Geez. Garcon may need to rent out a storage unit for all this praise.
It's no secret Garcon is Robert Griffin III's favorite target. Last year, the two hooked up for 44 completions in 10 games. Nine of those games resulted in Redskins victories.
Kind of adds weight to Shanahan's "difference-maker" remark, doesn't it?
Garcon, arguably the most famous football player to ever come out of Mount Union (Cecil Shorts went there, too), really turned on the jets over the season's final six games. During that stretch, Garcon made 33 grabs for 475 yards and three touchdowns. Had he kept it up, that 79.2 ypg average would have been 11th-best in the NFL last season.
Everything about this guy screams break-out. His 40 time is teetering on the edge of heroic (4.42) and at six-feet and 212 pounds, he's strong enough to hold his own against some of the league's pushier defenders. And of course, we can't forget about Garcon's knack for the big play (two touchdowns of 50 yards or longer last season).
Another thing working in Garcon's favor is Moss' age. At 34, it's doubtful Moss will be able to create much separation from defenders. Moss had a respectable season in 2012 (573 yards, eight TD) but if he starts losing the battle with Father Time, it's only going to help No. 88.
And here's the kicker. RG3 won't be looking to run as often this year after undergoing offseason knee surgery. That means Griffin III is going to be throwing the ball more than ever.
Garcon may as well change his address to Target City.
With an average ADP of 70, Garcon might be the best bargain this year's fantasy draft has to offer.
He's so money. And he doesn't even know it!
"We have the potential to be the best offense ever, really," Garcon said about the Redskins' chances this year.
