Sage Rosenfels is the best available option if your quarterback situation needs help.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
There has been a large turnover in starting quarterbacks this week, just one area where a pickup might be useful. Let's get to work and see if we can come up with some decent players.
Sage Rosenfels, Houston - If your quarterback situation needs "spicing up," Rosenfels is the best available option. He will probably start the next four games and if he plays well...who knows. He almost won the starting job earlier this year before a historic fourth-quarter collapse against Indianapolis. Against Minnesota on Sunday, he threw for 224 yards and two scores. He has a great receiving corps in Andre Johnson, Owen Daniels and Kevin Walters and running back Steve Slaton catches the ball well out of the backfield.
Brady Quinn, Cleveland - Quinn finally gets his chance to play and it couldn't come against a better opponent...ok, it could be Detroit or San Diego. The Broncos are yielding 243.2 ypg, 27th-best out of NFL 32 teams. Quinn certainly knows the offense having sat around for two years. It's time he proved himself and Thursday night is a good place to start.
Rex Grossman, Chicago - The Bears offense was working well under Kyle Orton, but his ankle injury opens the door for the return of Grossman. His first game is against the stingy Tennessee Titans defense which is not a good matchup. Green Bay, St. Louis and Minnesota follow which might be better options.
Dante Culpepper, Detroit - He doesn't know the offense and hasn't played a game in a long time, but Culpepper might be in the starting lineup if Dan Orlovsky's thumb doesn't heal. I can't recommend him this week, but down the road he might still have one or two good games left in his right arm. After Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, dates with Carolina, Tampa Bay and Tennessee seem too tough to start him, but Minnesota in Week 14 and New Orleans in Week 16 might be an opportunity.
Jamaal Charles, Kansas City - With Larry Johnson on suspension and Kolby Smith out for the year, Charles made the most of his opportunity last week. He ran for 106 yards on just 18 carries Sunday against Tampa Bay and his next two opponents are San Diego and New Orleans. Seems like a good chance to score some solid fantasy points.
Ray Rice, Baltimore - The Ravens are in Houston this week and after a stunning 21 carries for 154 yards on Sunday, how could you not snap him up? Well, for starters Le'Ron McClain will still get the goal line carries and Rice's opportunities are tied to Willis McGahee's health. But for Week 10 he's a solid play.
Ryan Torain, Denver - The Arizona State product has a lot of talent, it's just that he doesn't put it on display very often due to injury. However, with Michael Pittman and Andre Hall just being put on IR and Selvin Young still hurting, Torain will get his opportunity this Thursday in Cleveland. The Browns are ranked 28th against the run. Buy.
BenJarvis Green-Ellis, New England - This is a tough pickup because there are still three running backs in front of him when healthy. Both Sammy Morris and LaMont Jordan along with Kevin Faulk would normally get all the opportunities, but until Morris and Jordan are back on the field, Green-Ellis is going to see some action.
Kevin Faulk, New England - If Faulk is still available, I'd be surprised, but he is a reliable source of points each week. Not usually a high upside, but always gets on the board either rushing or receiving.
Wide Receivers/Tight Ends
Shaun McDonald, Detroit - McDonald was a throw-in in a two-for-one trade I made two weeks ago and has surprised me with a five-catch day and a six-catch, 1 TD day last Sunday. I'd like him more if Orlovsky was playing since the youngster seems to look for him.
Brent Celek, Philadelphia - Celek had a record-breaking day in Seattle last week, but don't expect that against the New York Giants on Sunday. Still, Donovan McNabb likes throwing to his tight end, so there might be a chance to get some decent points out of him until L.J. Smith gets healthy.
