LaDainian Tomlinson reached an agreement to play "second fiddle" for the Jets.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
There has been plenty of movement in the past few days of free agency, but not much will have a major effect on fantasy values.
LaDainian Tomlinson reached an agreement to play "second fiddle" for the New York Jets. He'll backup playoff star Shonn Greene who showed he is ready to take the reins of the Jets running game. "LT" will be a solid insurance policy for the team, but no more than that and will have minimal fantasy value except as a handcuff to Greene.
The Denver Broncos acquired Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn and released backup Chris Simms. Kyle Orton is the starter and will be until he plays himself out of it. The bigger question in Denver is what will the receiving corps look like. Their best receiver, Brandon Marshall, doesn't figure to return to the team leaving Eddie Royal, Jabar Gaffney and Brandon Stokely as the top three wideouts.
The reason Quinn was sent packing out of Cleveland is because they have acquired both Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace. I doubt either quarterback will have much fantasy value this fall as long as the team's receivers are Mohamed Massaquoi, Brian Robiskie, Chansi Stuckey and Josh Cribbs. They did sign Ben Watson at tight end, but that's not enough help.
Larry Johnson signed with the Washington Redskins to play alongside Clinton Portis. Now Washington has two over-the-hill running backs who are in need of the Fountain of Youth.
Antonio Bryant signed with the Cincinnati Bengals to play opposite Chad Ochocinco. Bryant's signing is actually the most important of all the signings in the past week and assuming he can get healthy again, will warrant more attention away from Ochocinco than Laveranues Coles ever did. Bryant is just 29 years-old, so there is hope than he can return to 2008 form (80 receptions - 1,248 yards - 7 touchdowns).
Speaking of fantasy, JaMarcus Russell was a "no-show" at offseason conditioning. At least Charlie Frye and Bruce Gradkowski showed up. The Oakland offense will continue to be a fantasy "black hole" until the team finds a quarterback and a few capable receivers. Hard to believe I long for the days of Rich Gannon, Tim Brown and Tyrone Wheatley.
And who isn't excited about the Ravens' passing offense? Joe Flacco (315- for-499 for 3,613 yards, 21 TDs, 12 INTs) throwing to Derrick Mason (73-1,028-7), newly acquired Anquan Boldin (84-1,024-4) and running back Ray Rice (78-702-1) out of the backfield.
